Funny

So to summarise:
HTC One Ice Storm: 11309
S4 Storm: 9552
HTC One Ice Storm: 6190
S4 Storm Extreme: 6127
A small victory, but seems to be a lot of leeway between these results, just ran this on my own One and got 10029 and 6626 results respectively, so alot lower then alot higher.

whatever it is this means the 554MP3 is not running at 533mhz due to power / thermals
please also means its not what is hyped to be and Adreno 320 is not to be taken lightly

Would love to see the test run again once the One is updated to 4.2.2 - these results have nowhere to go but up.

Agreed, I'm sure it will get a nice performance bump from that.

I´m so looking forward to the 4.2.2 update. Not cause of the Android Version, but the drivers. Its fast at the moment, but it should be even faster with them.

I expect the benchmarks to improve with 4.2 by a decent amount, maybe we'll see around 41 fps Egypt offscreen.

As usual, 3DMarks of any kind cannot be a standard test of anything of value.
I've got these scores from my Nexus 4 running stock 4.2.2. (Left is default and right is extreme)

Benchmarks like this are totally pointless for measuring performance. They might be fun, but they are so variable (even on the same device) that they are useless. They also have biases towards certain GPUs that do no reflect real world gaming.
All this test proves is that with current software 3Dmark for android runs better on the Adreno in the One than on the PowerVR in the S4, nothing else whatsoever. Since its not a game, who cares?

3DMark is really wierd. I ran it yestarday several times and the score varied from 9900 to 10800. The highest score I got was just after the restart of the device. 10800 in IceStorm and 6690 in Extreme. Still... it looks like the "The One" is on par with SIV when it comes to performance. Now its up HTC to make the software better. I mean its still far better than Samsung when it comes to bug count and stability but the camera, Zoe, Blinkfeed functionality should be extended. Come on HTC. You can do it...

Were exactly did you get an S4 octa and an HTC one to perform these test. These are the two rarest phones on the planet especially the S4 octa. Won't consider this final since the S4 octa is still in production. <<<<<you can Google that

GLBenchmark: Nexus gets it's ass kicked

Hey guys,
I've been doing these benchmarks alot on WinMo before I got my first Android device. I always felt Winmo was sluggish, but look at this:
GLBenchmark link
I compared the Nexus with a Milestone, HD2 and 3GS. And it shocked me... The HD2 is faster at most benchmarks!
Is that because of the SDK with OpenGL ES 2.0 isn't used yet?
Hoping this could be improved, because I left Winmo because of this.
I don't believe this benchmark.
Okay, you're comparing several different platforms here. The HD2 and the Nexus One have the exact same GPU.
More accurate: this particular benchmark is faster on its Windows Mobile port than on its Android port.

Generally speaking in these types of benchmarks, the benchmark is set by the highest-scoring device. 100% would be the king for that specific test.
You would be correct, Android 2.1 as it is on our phones doesn't have all of the graphics boosters. To bo honest, it isn't that surprising IMHO, since these benchmarks are hugely influenced by the software itself, otherwise ROM cooking wouldn't do anything for increasing these #'s.
Maybe you could re-run this with a Cyan ROM, which has lots of those little things added in, such as the Arm Neon graphics inhancing(or whatever the heck its exact name is).
Also, keep in mind, that there are more important factors than "benchmarks".

I agree, with this, but adding one more thing instead of just testing different phones, test these benchmarks on cyan and emnother. With the nexus our graphics performance is aided by software so hardware isnt going to be the kicker between the hd2 and the nexus.

Good to see you here too babijoee. I'm trying to get someone on the MSM bandwagon to coordinate it, but Snapdragon is just so much more interesting... Anyways, goodtimes.
Anyways, I'm not setting up a group until i'm fairly certain the N1 CAN get better. I want to compare the N1 with the Desire and then again when OGLES 2.0 is fully implemented.
Nothing official but defiantly interesting:

I'm sure if everything mentioned here would defiantly give the n1 a substantial performance increase
Definitely worth waiting for. I'll see if I can track improvements in the graphics area of the N1 once Froyo is out.

I just ran it on my Desire. The upload failed so i dont have exact figures to prove anything, but it looks much the same as the N1 listed on their site. Most things are within 5%. My HD2 running a dutty custom ROM and Chainfires driver hack is a bit faster.
Raging Thunder 2 run extremly fast on N1, faster than moto chaser on ipod touch 2g. Anyway mobile benchmarks are always bulls**t

HTC vs Epic why???

This might not be the right fourm but could someone please tell me why HTC phones are twice as fast than the Epic on linpack? I've tried a EVO and a Droid Incredible, both get a score of 32.500! Why?
Because JIT is optimized for Snapdragon processors, you see more performance boosts with those phones. However, mere benchmarks do not translate to real world performance whatsoever. My Epic is faster than any phone that's out there. Never go by benchmarks, lot of them are as useless as the Windows Experience Index crap. Our phones have the better hardware, when official Froyo is out and devs get the source, you'll see how powerful it really is.
Because linpack performance does not equal real life performance.... I also recall reading that linpack has not been optimized for the epic's processor. However, try 30 seconds using an evo and compare it to the epic and you'll have your actual answer
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I think they are a 128 bit system versus 64 bit. But all I hear from evo user is the epic is faster

Just like cars, there's always someone faster...I think it is pure ignorance to state you alone have the fastest phone in the whole world. *shrug* For me my user experience is awesome and i know firsthand that benchmarks don't tell the whole story and can be faked. With tmpfs and a little knowhow anyone can 3000+ on quadrant.
Sent on the go from my mobile device
I didn't mean to come across as arrogant. I didn't mean I alone have the fastest phone in the world at all. I meant with everything that's out in terms of OC'd kernels, Epic owners in general have faster phones than practically any other out there (currently). Benchmarks are not high, but that does not translate to real world performance which is what I was getting at.
Essentially what has been said before: Linpack has been compiled and optimized for the other processor. Someone has to write code for each specific processor in order for it to take advantage of each one's architecture. Back when Intel's Nahalem chips came out, similar results were observed (I used to build HPC clusters).
Try nenamark1. The epic smokes the evo in that test
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Simple, linpack is a test checking for raw CPU power via floating points..Snapdragon has a thing called a VFP which is a Floating Point Accelerator...
Aka instead of checking raw CPU power of the CPU..your checking how fast the the VFP processes floating points lol..
To give an example, its like one person actually taking a test, while the other is copying off an answer sheet..who will be the fastest?
If you go by benchmarks that have not had their code optimized for the Snapdragon, where it is more apples to apples (it will never be completely apples to apples), the Hummingbirds generally come out on top.
Plus, if you look at gaming, the FPS on the Hummingbird is much faster. Of course, CPU and graphics benchmarks are quite different.
It has a keyboard
Thread moved to General.
I'm pretty new to android phones but I did my homework before i decided on my epic. My wife wanted the Evo for the larger MP camera and bigger screen so we ended up with one of each. Form the time i've spent on my wife's evo and the time she has spent with my Epic we both have to agree that the Epic preforms far better in realworld test. The scrolling is smother and it has a better overall experience than the evo. So forget about benchmarks... just try one head to head and you'll see which one is the better device..
I've said this before and will say it again. My rooted evo with cm6 and oced to 1.12 ghz isn't as smooth as my epic was out the box. My evo gets 1500 on quadrent while my epic gets 1100 with no jit. Now you tell me wich phone is faster?

Amazing? No sign of U.S. S3 Variants

Isn't it amazing that almost 6 days before the release of the Galaxy s 3 in the U.S. that there's been no leakage of benchmarks, T mobile software on the S3 or anything pertaining to comparison between the 2gigs and S4 vs the Exynos edition?
It's just different because we usually have something besides specs when there's less than a week to go for a release.
I don't want to waste my time purchasing the phone and having to send it back because it's not as smooth as the UK varient. I truly wanted exynos but currently banking on the 2 gigs for a wash. Samsung and T -mo won't be getting my $650 if not

They haven't tested this particular SoC, but there are plenty of tests and benchmarks with the US version of the HTC One X, and that thing runs great. So you are safe to assume the Galaxy S III will run smooth, especially since it has 2GB of ram instead of 1GB on the One X.
Don't worry, the phone is gonna feel buttery smooth.

cool.. I've noticed the HTC One x web browsing and smoothness throughout sense 4/ICS wasn't all that smooth.. I also had the HTC one s from T mobile and it wasn't as fast a benchmarks indicated with real life use.. Now maybe that's just because of a buggy sense 4.0 or the fact that the S4 is just a number puncher and not a buttery smooth processor like the Exynos definitely is.
Thanks for your reply

first time i saw a 6000 score.. that's probably rooted with processor tweaks
thanks for the link for the S4 chip!
there have been lots of debate regarding the S4 vs Exynos. imo, the S4 is a better CPU whereas the Exynos has the better GPU.
i've said this time and time again, if you upload/download a lot of files (esp big ones), the S4 is the one for you. if you want to play a lot of high end games on your phone, the Exynos is for you, though not many games take advantage of that right now.
on the CPU front, no applications make use of quad-core. a lot of apps have just now started making use of quad-cores.

Thanks... However, i feel that the Enynos in the Galaxy s 2 was so smooth that Android should make it mandatory for all android handsets lol... GPU must have to do with the browser performance as well because of the graphics in pinch to zoom.. I have yet to see a browser, even with the s4 (HTC series phones) zoom in and out of flash heavy websites with buttery smooth performance like the exynos ALWAYS DOES. That's what I'm looking for. Hopefully this verision will be as buttery as the Exynos.. people wonder why it's so popular.. it's just that gooood!

Hey Zarboz you planning on getting one of these?
btw I usually would put more emphasis on touch responsiveness and UI smoothness/consistent framerate as compared to benchmark scores However benchmark scores of this phone do show that it is in a whole other class compared to any other phone out right now... but I guess it is the first of the next generation, just like the One X was
We'll have to see what the rest are like, especially the GS4
For sure sg4 will be plastic as usually, with a bunch of stuff like multi windows, s vocie and so on that i turn off, just to save battery. Really, samy does it cheaper... Also twz is ugly and boring.

One phone gets say 14,000, One gets 8,000... what does that actually translate to though? =/

Use phone x, y and z and observe the performance.
My experiences in Quadrant... Transform SDXed out: 500+, Evo Shift OCd 1500ish, EVO3d OCd 3900
Each phone was that much faster for games and real world use, mostly.
The outlier was the Transform, butter smooth on the UI. Better than the EVO3d on the homescreen stock. But totally crap for most anything games.
Yeah... I'm about to jump ship and come back to HTC.
Sorry Sammy

Put it like this. Car A can travel at a maximum speed of 100km/h while car B can travel 150km/h
the numbers are the benchmarks. Car B is faster so car A wins.
The reason why they say benchmarks are useless because let's put Car B to real life use.
Car B has 150km/h speed but would you use it in driving the streets? If yes then good luck on the speed limit cameras.

Well... yes... but there can sometimes be an indirect effect on things like battery life. If a chipset is capable of doing more processing for the same amount of power, that likely means it can do the same amount of processing with less power, which means the battery will last longer.
Also, once apps start to become more demanding in the future - more complex 3D games that come out in a year or so - the phones that are faster in the benchmarks now will be able to play newer games for longer before hitting frame-rates that are too low to be enjoyable.
Think of it as car B having a more powerful engine, which lets it go up steeper hills while carrying the same load.

S4 Specs leak?

An antuntu benchmark for the S4 has leaked it's specs.
Network: GSM/WCDMA/LTE
CPU: Exynos 5410 1.8Ghz
CPU Cores: 4 + 4!!
GPU Model: PowerVR SGX 544 MP
System: OS 4.2
Display:
Screen size: 4.99
Resolution: 1920X1080
Camera:
Front cam: 2.1 mp
Rear: 13 mp
RAM: 2 gb.
Antutu populates that information by hand for the major devices, it cannot be retrieved from the system information.
Without confirmation it means nothing.
Speculation, in the case of them manually putting it on their servers, if it's automatic it's a fake benchmark.

.... sometimes you really post some nonsense.
Those numbers are just dividers, the actual score is 24.5k...

Facepalm, upon facepalm, upon facepalm. I'll go ahead and cite what the great Codeworkx has in his signature. A very inspiring line of text, actually.

Some people also don't seem to really grasp that it's possible, with a few smaller edits, to make a device display as another device. Is it really that hard to just wait until the darn presentation of the device (March 14th, I think it was) before getting hyped about possibly faked specifications?

Yeah but apparently there's supposed to be a problem with the exynos octa overheating
So we'll just have to wait and see
stupidly will be met by sarcasm

This was speculation by a major analyst. It isn't fact, it's just an educated guess at this point.
It could be official.
AFAIK, I don't believe benchmark scores in antuntu.
If you put trust into those scores, you could say that dancing around in your garden naked for 5 minutes increases your device's performance.
Well but the specs do look somewhat similiar to what we heard.
Wasn't the rumour of 13 mp, 2gb ram and 8 cores going around?
And here's proof:
I saw an article up on DroidViews as well about this. He was decent enough to upload a photo.
Whats this obsession with posting S4 things in a s3 forum?

Except antutu doesn't recognise the GT-I9500 as the S4 yet.

No idea.
I've seen people posting s4 things here,
When s3 was releasing the s2 forums were filled with s3 leaks etc.
When s2 was releasing the s forums were filled with s2 leaks.
Looks like a chain cycle.
