Well, as a fun fact when I was playing Godfire on the M9 with my gamepad some friends asked me if I had a PS3 emulator or something. While I found that exaggerated, I'd say adreno 430 has indeed a great graphical capability, sadly there are very few games to explode its full potential

the M9 and its GPU is a gaming beast and its true that we dont have many games optimized for it, infact some old games like Riptide GP2 doesnt use it properly (you need to manually boost CPU governor)
but Modern combat 5 and Godfire are the best showcase so far

Was looking at that but i'm seriously dubious about downloading any "free to play" games, so long as you can complete the game in the intended time and you don't have advantages taken away from you, that fine, but when you are forced to buy i think they should just offer a paid version.
Or low and behold, a choice?!?!? wouldn't that be a turn up.

GLBenchmark: Nexus gets it's ass kicked

Hey guys,
I've been doing these benchmarks alot on WinMo before I got my first Android device. I always felt Winmo was sluggish, but look at this:
GLBenchmark link
I compared the Nexus with a Milestone, HD2 and 3GS. And it shocked me... The HD2 is faster at most benchmarks!
Is that because of the SDK with OpenGL ES 2.0 isn't used yet?
Hoping this could be improved, because I left Winmo because of this.
I don't believe this benchmark.
Okay, you're comparing several different platforms here. The HD2 and the Nexus One have the exact same GPU.
More accurate: this particular benchmark is faster on its Windows Mobile port than on its Android port.

Generally speaking in these types of benchmarks, the benchmark is set by the highest-scoring device. 100% would be the king for that specific test.
You would be correct, Android 2.1 as it is on our phones doesn't have all of the graphics boosters. To bo honest, it isn't that surprising IMHO, since these benchmarks are hugely influenced by the software itself, otherwise ROM cooking wouldn't do anything for increasing these #'s.
Maybe you could re-run this with a Cyan ROM, which has lots of those little things added in, such as the Arm Neon graphics inhancing(or whatever the heck its exact name is).
Also, keep in mind, that there are more important factors than "benchmarks".

I agree, with this, but adding one more thing instead of just testing different phones, test these benchmarks on cyan and emnother. With the nexus our graphics performance is aided by software so hardware isnt going to be the kicker between the hd2 and the nexus.

Good to see you here too babijoee. I'm trying to get someone on the MSM bandwagon to coordinate it, but Snapdragon is just so much more interesting... Anyways, goodtimes.
Anyways, I'm not setting up a group until i'm fairly certain the N1 CAN get better. I want to compare the N1 with the Desire and then again when OGLES 2.0 is fully implemented.
Nothing official but defiantly interesting:

I'm sure if everything mentioned here would defiantly give the n1 a substantial performance increase
Definitely worth waiting for. I'll see if I can track improvements in the graphics area of the N1 once Froyo is out.

I just ran it on my Desire. The upload failed so i dont have exact figures to prove anything, but it looks much the same as the N1 listed on their site. Most things are within 5%. My HD2 running a dutty custom ROM and Chainfires driver hack is a bit faster.
Raging Thunder 2 run extremly fast on N1, faster than moto chaser on ipod touch 2g. Anyway mobile benchmarks are always bulls**t

Funny
So to summarise:
HTC One Ice Storm: 11309
S4 Storm: 9552
HTC One Ice Storm: 6190
S4 Storm Extreme: 6127
A small victory, but seems to be a lot of leeway between these results, just ran this on my own One and got 10029 and 6626 results respectively, so alot lower then alot higher.
whatever it is this means the 554MP3 is not running at 533mhz due to power / thermals
please also means its not what is hyped to be and Adreno 320 is not to be taken lightly
Would love to see the test run again once the One is updated to 4.2.2 - these results have nowhere to go but up.

I expect the benchmarks to improve with 4.2 by a decent amount, maybe we'll see around 41 fps Egypt offscreen.
As usual, 3DMarks of any kind cannot be a standard test of anything of value.
I've got these scores from my Nexus 4 running stock 4.2.2. (Left is default and right is extreme)
Benchmarks like this are totally pointless for measuring performance. They might be fun, but they are so variable (even on the same device) that they are useless. They also have biases towards certain GPUs that do no reflect real world gaming.
All this test proves is that with current software 3Dmark for android runs better on the Adreno in the One than on the PowerVR in the S4, nothing else whatsoever. Since its not a game, who cares?
3DMark is really wierd. I ran it yestarday several times and the score varied from 9900 to 10800. The highest score I got was just after the restart of the device. 10800 in IceStorm and 6690 in Extreme. Still... it looks like the "The One" is on par with SIV when it comes to performance. Now its up HTC to make the software better. I mean its still far better than Samsung when it comes to bug count and stability but the camera, Zoe, Blinkfeed functionality should be extended. Come on HTC. You can do it...

Unleash the True Gaming Power of the Nexus 9 !

Our device is super new, that some games couldn't recognize our powerful Tegra K1 and only gives us low quality option for graphics.
Here is the solution(Requires root)!! This method will trick the game that we're using another CPU & GPU, so it will give us more options!! Most important is, this will only fool the game with fake hardware info, but it won't effect the performance, so the TRUE TEGRA K1 IS UNLEASHED
I'll take Asphalt 8 for an example.
1. Install GLTools
(Paid app, please support the dev!!)Play Store Link
(Free XDA version, has all the functions)XDA Version
2. Open the app, choose TEX(DE)coder, check the boxes and press install.

3. After installing the plugin, the device will reboot automatically.
4. Re-open the app, choose the game you wanted to modify, I'll take Asphalt 8 as an example.
5. Check "Enable custom settings for this app" in General section.
6. Switch to GPU name/emulation section, check both "Use fake GPU info", "Use fake CPU info".
7. Choose "Use a template", here I'll choose Tegra 4, since the chip is also manufactured by Nvidia. Test yourself which one best fits the game!!
8. Profit !!

What's the point to having this awesome CPU and GPU when there are no games or apps out there to take advantage and probably never will. Should of bought a iPad , tablet apps are just way better on iPad bit I hate iOS lol

The capacity problems are expected, but surprisingly most of the devs are doing their best to support Lollipop
Like ES file browser and MX player,ES had lag reading files and MX wasn't capatable last week, but now are now working perfectly
Speaking of games...those emulators and game streaming featue kill any mobile games easily, why do people care about them?
Also for people like me,I can't stand with the system unable to organize files by user

Actually I think a lot of apps and games will get optimised for 4:3 (if they aren't already) because the N9 started a trend. For example the new Nokia N1 has a 4:3 ratio as well. Many of the cheap chinese tabs have this ratio also.

Come on bro...how long has iPad been there?
The first official 64bit processor.64bit system.4:3 screen just out for a bit longer than a month
Don't get me wrong, the official I'm talking about is Nexus
And you are saying we will never get proper optimized apps support...God...

Yea I'm afraid we won't get quality games/apps on Android for a tablet because android has so many sizes and screen resolutions and CPU/GPU combo. Yes I know iPad has been out for a lot longer but that's actually like making games for iOS because they can be followed in and don't have to optimize for 20 to 30 different devices . I love Android but I hope apps will be better optimized for tablets.
1.This had nothing to do with the N9 as your comparing app availability.
2. No reason to develop an intensive game for only two devices that can handle it.
Give it time.
Yeah your looking for Mrs right now vs what could be Mrs right.
This is just part of being an early adopter in terms of this screen ratio, CPU/GPU and OS. the good news is as stuff comes out, it feel like getting a new device all over again.
We may be able to play Tegra games when the Shield gets updated to Lollipop.

opengl 3.2???

Hi guys, i noticed that some s7 edge and note 7 exynos devices have opengl v3.2 graphics driver but here mine s7 edge (g935w8) have opengl v3.1?? I dont know why? Can you guys please confirm that is only me having the older version or all the other models have v3.1?
Thank You
I have opengl es v3.1 on antutu and my device is g935fd
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
The v3.2 came with the latest firmware update for the device (starting with B).
Just wait for the OTA or update to the latest firmware using ODIN.

The firmware update isn't just security update.
It did update the security to 01.08, but added few more features, including samsung cloud, new gallery app from note 7, and new mali GPU drivers, r12p1 (which support opengl v3.2).
If you have the exynos model, check this thread for more info:

Well thanks for the information you gave but according to that thread ,there is nothing about gpu driver update in the changelog? Are you using that update on your device? If yes, can you please share the screenshot...sorry for demanding more

Because what written on the changelog is what samsung officially wrote.
Just read the last 3-4 pages of this thread, you'll get the information.
By the way, Why is it so important to you?
I mean, why do you care about the support for V3.2?
The driver work better and get better benchmark scores, but I don't see any app that demand V3.2 for it to work.

Yes i saw that.....well i know that there's no app or any game requires opengl v3.2 but you will see the difference in the gpu benchmark definitely coz the note 7 exyonos (mali t880) having opengl v3.2 scores around 46000 in case of 3d benchmark but my s7 edge having open gl v 3.1 scores around 41000...so i think both the devices have same processor but different results in 3d benchmark.....Hence it concludes that gpu version may affect the overall benchmark score. Btw i dont get august update coz of ****in delay by bell in canada..so i will wait and test it in future whether there is an improvement in 3d benchmark score or not.

You have the Snapdragon version, right?
BTW, samsung DVFS make the actual gaming performance of this phone crap. Don't trust benchmark.
Without custom kernel (ImageBreaker), DVFS limits the cpu clock after few minutes of gameplay. Games that are more intensive, work really bad.
For exynos users like me, the only solution is ImageBreaker kernel, or set the governor to performance.

Well i am also an exynos user and my s7 edge is not rooted yet..you know thats the main reason for not rooting my device till now coz the gaming lag increases badly incase of custom roms/kernel..

Who told you that nonsense?
It's the other way around...
Stock kernel is really bad gaming performance wise.
Just try to play NFS No Limits, Or tekken 6 using PPSSPP. The lag is horrible, from the first second.
That was the main reason for rooting my phone, and now I've discovered so many great features only available after rooting/replacing rom and kernel.
Believe me, you won't regret it. It's your call.
