Can the IR emitting light that's built for the iris function be used by apps like the Note 4 IR blaster could? (Specifically I'd like to know if we can use the Note 7 with Galaxy Universal Remote "
Isn't it the same type of light, and isn't it the same technology?
Is there an IR hardware quasi-expert that can weigh in on this?
No expert here. But sounds like a slim chance. "No IR blaster, sorry": http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note7-review-1478p2.php under "Unboxing... "
But by all means let us know if anyone learns otherwise. IR blaster is the only reason I'm not upgrading... I use it too much on my N3
it has an IR light emitter for the iris scanner camera. But i tried the app (galaxy universal remote) today and it said this device has no IR blaster.

It's likely not going to happen. Just get the harmony hub and use wifi to send it a signal, which has an app for your phone, if it's for your home or business. Otherwise, RIP ir blaster; I know this is not the news you want to hear but sadly it's the one people will get :|

This is the biggest motivation on my side to buy Vibrant to be frank. I am a casual developer and would like to write some acc+gyro related application on my own phone.
As far as I know, Vibrant has 6 axis motion sensor, which should be 3 axis acc + 3 axis Gyro if I didn't misunderstand it. However, I can not get any information from internet about what's the model the sensor is, and I'm not sure if this sensor is of exact function as acc+gyro. So if anybody happened to know such kind of information, please share it, my purchase decision would be definitely based on this.
Thanks!
If I remember correctly it is actually a 6-axis accelerometer. It gives you angular acceleration instead of angular velocity, which has it's goods and it's bads.
Thanks Lutin
I'm not sure if it's Gyro or not. There are two posts can be referred

http://fonefrenzy.com/2010/06/28/samsungs-galaxy-has-a-gyroscope-like-the-iphone-4/
Based on what I saw, I guess most people are still confused about its type. This is why I was wondering if anybody knows the actual model by chance
There's no gyroscope in Vibrant, Captivate, Fascinate, Epic,...
just triaxial accelerometer from Bosch and triaxial geomagnetic sensor from Yamaha
Exactly the same sensor set with Galaxy S UK and Asian version.
Are you sure? This is totally different from what them claimed. They said they have something other than just digital compass

100%, sir.
I own both Galaxy S UK and Vibrant
I used some different software and *#*#0*#*#* code to check on both devices. I'm not surprised to realize that there's no gyroscope.
But the Yamaha geomagnetic is superior to almost every smart phones on the market right now (bi-axis). It's a tri-axis sensor.
I suppose that the combination of tri-axis geomagnetic sensor and tri-axis acceleration sensor will be equal to gyros + accele in iphone 4
Sorry for my English.

thanks man, you saved me a lot of time!
I played with one Vibrant today and yeah, it's magnetic sensor. But it performs basically the same as Gyro, just will be affected by the metal thing.
I have no idea how good it would be in real use and I am still thinking if I should give it a shot.
I found some tutorials on the web of how to create an infrared remote control by using a headphone 3.5 mm jack and 2 IR leds... You basically have to connect the leds to the 3.5 mm plug... And connect them with reverse polarity. I cant get this to work on my Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab 10.1, my friend's Galaxy S2 and another friend's iPhone 4.....if anyone manage to get something similar to work, please tell me what you did.

There is a good DIY tutorial here:

Hi, as the title says, does anyone know if this has an IR sensor for universal remote use?
If so, does it have the learning feature?
Thanks.
No its doesn't
Thanks waterninja21,
Is that a no to the IR altogether or just the learning feature?
Motorola's online chat person was sure it could be used with IR apps.
No ir at all.

IR sensor yes. IR blaster no so this device can NOT be used as a Universal remote unfortunately. Personally the moto website spec list is a bit misleading. When I first read it said IR but was referring to the sensor and I took that as being a blaster too.

Since the Note 9 has an Infrared iris scanner, I am wondering if there is an app that can use the scanner with visual, like a camera or night vision. Off course small distances, just for fun.
Something like this on the Poco F1

Bump
I've been lookig for something like this since the s8, and I havn't found anything
Bump
That was custom done by a dev or app maker who has the Pocofone...
You could always ask them to hep but as they don't own the Note they probably won't do it all...
I was wondering if anyone tried the Note 10+ 3D Scanner app on their A9 (2018) since they seem to have the same depth sensor (only thing missing is IR blaster but I’m guessing that just increases range) and if so did it work or do you know of any other app that can access the A9’s depth sensor data and visualize it as 3D please?
TIA

So, no one, how about A80's, depth camera with projector, does it do 3D scanning?
