According to AT&T I'm supposed to see a different wifi icon in the status bar with a plus sign, or some sort of indication I'm on wifi calling. I have it activated but I'm not seeing this symbol during calls.
Does anyone know what packages rely on this to work? I'm worried I may have something disabled that it needs.

So we have to be in airplane mode for it to work? Will it not just recognize I'm on wifi and use it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
No you don't have to be on airplane mode. I was messing around trying to force it at home where I actually have full signal on att. I also tried it at my dad's house last night which notoriously has horrible service on any carrier and it kicked on by itself. It's automatic and hands off between Wifi and lte automatically based on signal strength. It supports video calls as well as text and Mms

Darn.. I toggled airplane mode but when I called the phone I got voicemail, WIFI calling is activated but not working... Do you know what packages WIFI calling relies on?
Edit: Found the culprit, "IPsec Service" package must be enabled for WIFI calling to function. Took me an hour to narrow it down but I like as much bloat off my phone as possible!
Ipsec is not bloat and I'd leave it on if I were you. Just my 2 cents.

Hmm, maybe we can use that to get wifi calling working on the U fw. We have volte working now, just need wifi calling. Can you pull that apk and post it here? I would, but I'm on apf2.

Yea, it only works when att signal is weaker than Wifi, like below 50% it's hard for me to tell exactly when but it has to be weak for it to switch by itself. However I haven't run into much problem just forcing it with airplane mode which I did test most of the day like that and calls and texts were received and sent normally for me.
I'm not and have not rooted and am on the latest update, fwiw.

I can use it with airplane mode fine, I have good signal where I live so I imagine it will never switch over automatically. I wish there was a way to prefer WIFI calling while keeping data enabled.
In advanced WIFI settings, has anyone noticed a difference between smart network switch being on and off? I wonder if that would help.

Can it interchange while you're talking on the phone, or will the call drop if it switches?
Also, how can I get these readings about my signal strength?

Yes it can hand off. I use signal check pro to see the readings. You can also use LTE discovery app.
Can somone tell me the package name of com.sec.vowifispg which is for WiFi Calling on AT&T phones.

A question to all specifically those with the t-mobile tab. I am wondering if any if you can use either the internet or maps while on a call? I have noticed that i can not, i loose edge even though i have some bars, see the picture bellow:

Once i end the call i get the Edge symbol back.
Any way to be able to use both? What if i need to look for directions while on a call? The only option i have is to disconnect the call then launch maps, get the directions then call the person back. The same thing if i want to look up something online while on a call.
I had the same issue when i was using my Vibrant, and never got it to work.
Any suggestions, or is this not possible?

As far as I remember, Tmobile has never offered voice + data simultaneously on their 3G network. One of the very very few perks of having the evil AT&T overlords.

No, it's not possible.
EDGE is still 2G, and you can't use 2G data and voice simultaneously.
You need 3G to have voice and data simultaneously, and that currently isn't possible with a T-Mo US Tab.

Dave

thanks, but the previous member stated it can not be done even if running 3g+voice, i have the Vibrant and was never able to do so, if i had full 3g and got a call i would loose the 3g symbol and could not use the internet or google maps only after i ended the call i could.
this is such a bummer but i have dealt with it so far so i guess not that big of a deal.
It shouldn't prevent you from using voice + wifi though, so you could use your Vibrant as a mifi and share it out that way.

its vice versa, whenever i'm on net mode, message or calls is getting a hard time to get through
been guesing that its the same 2g that causing it, but my colleague getting them just fine using blackberry
is it only android?
is RIM using a different band so voice and data can get side by side?
fyi, all of my colleague only getting 2g too (edge/gprs) coz we're on the same remote area

I find it very hard to believe that TMo US don't support simultaneous voice and data whilst on 3G! It would be pretty retarded if true.
Here's a thread concerning this issue where a Nexus One owner confirms they gets simultaneous voice and data on their phone if they are in 3G coverage.

That's completely correct. T-Mobile's 3G network allows for both voice and data at the same time. I've had this since my G1 and all my other 3G phones up to and including the myTouch 4G I'm using now. AT&T allows for this as well, while the CDMA networks (Verizon and Sprint) technically could, but haven't sold devices that allow for it that I'm aware of (likely waiting for full 4G rollouts instead).
The problem you're likely having is that, as long as you're on EDGE the data portion WILL drop, and once the IP drops the little E will go with it. It will bring up the data connection again once voice is cleared. This is why long downloads over EDGE can result in getting voicemails on occasion, as the call might not ring through even though you had max bars.
Thank you, I am glad someone had the sense to post the right info. It is annoying when people post information and they have no idea what they are talking about. If we ever get a modem that works with 3g and Voice then YES they will both work at the same time. Even a non 3G ATT phone will NOT be able to do voice/data at the same time. It is simply a limitation of the GSM architecture.

Technically, even on 2G, the networks can prioritise voice over date, so that if a voice call comes in whilst you're on 2G data, the data will pause to allow the voice call to continues.
However, all the networks that I've ever user don't support this, though I'm sure many do.

Yep, which is why that stands out in my mind as an annoyance. But since I leave the phone alone for the most part while I use my Tab, it isn't much of an issue anymore.
MY\t-mobile.com and does not let me browse the web.
Installed "GScript Lite" and BusyBox --> Extracted modemswitch.zip --> Copy /sdcard/modemswitch/switch.sh to the /sdcard/gscript/ directory--> "Add Script", --> select switch.sh--> saved.
Tried this from GScriptLite: switch
Rotohammer's Modem Switcher
Current modem=yyyyyyy
Flashing files ...
Switching to Phone/2G
The Tab never reboots and it doesn't switches to 3G. It returns back to GScriptLite. Switcher is on Edge --> my browser takes me directly to MY\t-mobile.com and does not let me browse the web. Did I miss something?

yeah, you can select gsm only from that menu, but it doesn't appear to actually change it, my just sits and hangs for a bit and then goes back to gsm/cdma auto (prl). At least it's not forcing wcdma preferred though, that is harder on the battery than the setting it is stuck on.
I also wish I could just "use only 2g networks" when I'm out of 3g coverage but so far have had no luck getting anything working.

You know what..? I was just looking at that a little while ago! It has "gsm only" which is 2g! Default is "gsm auto (RPL)", that obviously toggles between 2 & 3g!
All we need now is a nifty dev to figure out a twidget for it!
thanks for pointing it out mate!

Mine has kept the setting fairly consistently for about half an hour now, also walked out to get the full 3g but it seems to be locked on 2g mode now.
I'll mail the "Quick Settings" dev, he's usually spot on to fix stuff..
Isn't AT&T requiring everyone to have at least 3G phones soon?
does this "gsm only" option work for data too? I want to enable edge so i can at least get some data, gsm only seems to imply only voice
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
My office is in the basement, and I always used to have trouble getting a 3g signal there. If I didn't switch my N1 to 2g, my battery would run down after a few hours.
With the Atrix, I get a much better signal in my office, and even in areas where the signal is weak, the battery seems to last. Looks like they changed the way the phone searches for a signal...
my current provider doesn't have 3g on most parts of the city, so on my blackberry i just disable 3g and this makes the battery last an extra day or two. most android devices i have read about have the "force 2g" option but if it disables edge it won't work for me.
I also missed this option, that was available on all my former android phones. But there is quite a simple way to get this option back. The original menu with this option is still on the phone, but hidden. But you can get it back with Any Cut from the market. Just create a new shortcut with Any Cut on your home screen. Choose from Activity the first GSM/UMTS Options entry. Et voilá!

On any Android phone I've used, selecting "GSM only" simply means 2G so EDGE or GPRS data is still available.
SwitchPro Widget has a widget that will switch between 2g/3g.

No big need for an app, the turning on hot spot while signal refreshes method works.....Look up details in the Turbo2 forum.
I can get the signal refresher method to work, but the hotspot shortcut in the notification panel only turns it off for me. It will not turn it on. Any suggestions? I have to queue the hotspot settings then switch to activate from there.

I currently am working with the FCC and the EFF to address this
Below you can read my complaint. I have removed identifying information for the time being but have at this point escalated beyond the FCC. Last night I was contacted by the FCC and we discussed plans for next steps. They have forwarded my complaint to Verizon and I was contacted by Verizon Enterprise Resolutions Team. I spoke with VZW today and had a 45 minute conversation discussing their restriction on the fact that Verizon is treading very close to the 2012 ruling. At this point I am waiting to hear back from Crystal from Verizon's internal team on next steps.
VERIZON WIRELESS - 700MHZ C BLOCK RESTRICTING USERS ABILITY TO UTILIZE OPEN FREQUENCY
On Friday August 19th I purchased a new phone from Verizon Wireless. I was surprised to find out that the applications that I normally use to tether my wireless broadband no longer worked due to a combination of efforts set by Google to patch security holes and Verizon Wireless' modification of the stock rom that was shipped from Motorolla Mobility.
Verizon has modified the stock internal mobile broadband hook in settings and forced it to call a 'Subscription Check' service that requires end users to enroll in a 30$ a month mobile broadband service in addition to their current bill.
While the second part is not new, the first; disabling tethering applications, is.
In 2011 the Free Press filed a complaint with the FCC located here
freepress.net/sites/default/files/fp-legacy/FreePress_CBlock_Complaint.pdf
In this complaint it holds that Verizon Wireless choice and collusion with Google to disable or limit third party tethering apps steering users to their paid server is not only poor business practice but against the fair use of the C block LTE frequency and in the FCC's 2012 ruling found below, they agree.
transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2012/db0731/DOC-315501A1.pdf
The settlement of 1.25 million against Verizon not only solidifies fault, but reinforces the necessity to keeping the use of this frequency open to competition for applications and use.
I feel that the current situation that I am facing also affect other end users and is simply a rehash of the 2011 issue.
I have contacted Verizon and have the recorded messages located here:
Call 1 -REMOVED-
Received email response listed here:
-REMOVED-
Call 2 -REMOVED-
Verizon Wireless HQ
Dispute Resolution manager
one Verizon way, VC52S417 Baskin Ridge NJ, 07920-1097
I am looking for advise primarily if I should pursue this issue, if I am off base or if this is something that the FCC has interest in pursuing.
Thanks very much

Method
This is put together from the droid turbo 2 thread. Works for me on unlimited data.
1. Download "Network Signal Refresher Lite By 8JAPPS"
2. Run the app, Hit the refresh button.
3. Pull down notification drawer, pull down again to get to the quick settings tiles
4. Wait until the Sim card icon changes to the completely empty signal bars icon
5. Hit the hotspot button only once, wait a few seconds it will turn on.
It works for me all the time. Posting from a tethered computer as we speak.

Trying to cinfirm thart signal refresh native hotapot procedure still works afyer the software update.
Tether Update
Just got my Moto Z Force today WoW!!! this is one motorola mother ship, anyway while we wait for the sunshine miracle, Tether is great with the PDANet app using Bluetooth, Super fast, not like the unfortunate HTC devices that try the same thing (BT is real slow) on the Z, BT is blazing fast, not much different than the Native Hotspot I used on HTC M9. Hey its free so WTF right?

Do you know if the signal refresher hack still works with the MCOS24.104-35-1-9 latest update?
Yes works after update! I just got a surface rt for work and was trying to find a root for t2 but with no luck but this worked!!! Very awesome! I came across the pull sim card out and out back in with little luck everytime I out card back in hotspot would disable. But this did the trick thank you!
Does this work with the nougat update?
Don't want to upgrade if it means losing hotspot.

I can't get it to work with the Network Refresh method. Shoot.
Just out of curiosity what is everyone using the mobile hotspot for? I never feel the need to use it, maybe I can offer some alternative insight.
I use it for when other people need wifi, doing homework at the park, my 3DS, very useful if you're traveling. Used it for like two years when I lived alone as my home wifi. Used to sell phones in a store that didn't have wifi and used it to backup and restore stuff for customers. Lots of little uses that add up quickly.
Anyone else having problems after the Nougat update? I can't send phone calls through the stock dialer. I can get a call out by clicking a number on a website or by using my textra app but not the traditional way. I am completely stock. Any ideas?

Done a factory reset yet to see if that will cure dialing issue?
I have not. I'm hoping to avoid that. But I will if it continues.

Not sure how to clear that data.

I was having the same issues too. I tracked it down to wifi calling. Had to turn it off to get it to work.

Same here. After upgrading to Nougat on stock HTC 10 Verizon variant, when selecting the "Phone" icon from the app drawer it would say "Operation denied". Open up the all apps icon on the home screen. Select Phone icon and drag to the home screen and replace the old icon. You can now open the phone dialer. Hope this helps you too.
I'm having the wifi calling issues as well. If wifi calling is turned on and I'm connected, it won't make calls out. If I'm connected to WiFi and turn off wifi calling it works fine. Haven't tried a factory reset yet but we'll see.

Great. We can always try again after an RUU is available
Spoke to a Verizon rep online and they have not received any other reports of the wifi calling issue. Is anyone else experiencing issues with the play store and Google Assistant? Probably not related to the update but just wanted to ask.

While connected it an active wifi network you can;t dial out with wifi calling enabled. Not a phone icon issue on this one. I reported to verizon and they are sending a new phone

Wi-Fi calling has never been a problem , I always have it enabled. Can dial out just fine on or off Wi-Fi network or 4G.
In response to the "OP" who also could not use his "stock dialer" same as me.
By going to the "all installed apps" and selecting the dialer icon you are using the stock dialer version 8.10.878172 thereby replacing the "leftover" Version 7 Marshmallow dialer. Thats why it would say "operation denied" when using the "old" dialer icon.
Again, this solved my problem. Without having to fatory reset. Nothing to do with Wi-Fi calling in this instance.
google services not updating
I have been having intermittent issues on startup with Gmail not being able to retrieve email or updating, and Play Store also not working. Some days there are no problems, and others nothing works. I have the HTC 10 Verizon phone.
So I did more investigation on my wifi calling issue. For the people people that said wifi calling works after the update. Under the roaming preferences do you have it set to prefer wifi or cellular. If i have wifi selected no outgoing calls can be made if you are connected to a wifi network.
Hey guys (and girls),
I just picked up a Exynos S10+ and so far everythuing is working great on Verizon (US). My only issue is I can't enable wifi calling. I've tried disabling the radio and making a call with wifi enabled. The phone will prompt me to enable wifi calling but won't take me to the setting. So I've tried some back door ways of getting to wifi calling and found the setting but there's literally nothing there to turn on.
The phone showed up as a Korean model when I first bought it and I tried flashing it to a UK software but I'm still not finding an option for wifi calling.
When I go back to work on Monday, I'll be in a 100% dead zone for Verizon. The only way I can call or text is with wifi calling so if I can't get it working, I can't use this phone long term.
Anybody know of a work-around/hack to enable it? Or if any of these firmwares would enable it? Any suggestions, other than to sell the phone and buy a SD version...my last resort. Thanks!

Working fine here on an exynos model on EE network in the UK, setting came up in notifications pull down but is also available if you open the phone app and go into settings...

Hey, difference is service provider, I'm on BTU and your on something else (TPA?), clearly your CSC doesn't support WiFi calling, I'm not 100% sure but at a guess I would say you should be able to use Odin and flash a genuine BTU CSC to your phone and that should work although you will most likely have to full wipe, check out the other threads about Odin and flashing stock firmware

I'm quite familiar with Odin. I flashed this phone from Korea to UK. There's not a file for my specific provider as the Exynos isn't even available in the US. That's why I'm trying to figure out which Odin file to use for a carrier that supports WiFi calling.
Let's try this a different way. If you needed to restore your phone with Odin, which file would you have to use to maintain full compatibility with your carrier?

Happy to help, send me a link with what files are available (I never plan on flashing mine so haven't looked) and I'll let you know which one/ones you need but defo you need a BTU file (BTU is generic for exynos and will work with any provider and supports WiFi calling)

This is the one you want:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-G975F/BTU/download/G975FXXU1ASBA/259919/
Alternatively you can use SamFirm putting in Model "SM-G975F2 and Region "BTU" click "Auto" then "Check Update" then "Download" if you don't want to use sammobile
This is for SM-G975F exynos model only (just putting this here in case someone else reads this thread and tries to flash to wrong phone)

Welp, that didn't work. I spent about an hour on the phone with Verizon to make sure my account was still provisioned, and it is. I'm running out of ideas. Guess I'll carry my backup phone Monday to work. If I can't get it to work, I'll be selling this phone soon. [emoji17]

Not good, what does your software info screen say now? The same?
Try flashing with no SIM card installed and get into settings and check see what software says first before inserting sim
Why would you buy an Exynos model for use in the US on a US carrier?
There's no US firmware for the Exynos. You won't get VoLTE, WIFi Calling etc working on Verizon. Doesn't matter what firmware you flash.
Also, per the posts above, BTU is unbranded UK CSC, it certainly won't work. THough it's part of the multi-CSC anyway.
Hey there. Quick question since you said everything else was working. I got the G975F from work, tinkering to use it with my personal account on Verizon. I don't care about wife calling or VoLTE. But, the one thing I cant get is for the default messaging app to work for sending MMS on Verizon. I can use the Verizon messaging+ or Google Messaging app but not Samsung. Would prefer to use the Samsung app since its needed for full compatibility with the Galaxy Watch.
Did you find a way for it to work? Or did you resort to a different app?

I'm surprised that it works on Verizon at all, I was under the impression that the Exynos version was GSM only.
I have the SM-G975F as well in the United States, but I have mine on AT&T. Judging by the CSC you reported (TPA - which is Panama, not Korea) there is a chance we obtained ours from the same eBay seller - "never-msrp".
the_scotsman is right afaik, you won't ever get VoLTE or WiFi calling on a generic CSC like BTU, XEU, TPA. I have been struggling myself to enable VoLTE with no luck, I am currently on the EE (EVR) rom from sammobile.

I was accessing settings through the hidden phone menu and I had VOLTE on. I can't confirm if it worked or not, but it was enabled. WiFi calling wouldn't work at all so the phone is of no use to me. I'm hopefully meeting someone tonight to sell it.

What hidden phone (dialer code) menu are you referring to? I would like to check mine.
My Unlocked UK doesn't even have Wifi Calling as an option, better than having delayed updates and carrier bloat I guess...
Could anyone with the BTU firmware tell me if you still have the options under Wifi Calling for "Wifi Preferred" or "Network Preferred"? My firmware only has the Wifi Calling on/off toggle which in my case is useless as the S10+ just keeps switching between Wifi calling and VoLTE mid call resulting in bad dropouts.

I used to be able to access it through the dialer on older devices (dial *#*#4636#*#*). It doesn't work on this phone. So the way I access it now is:
Use Nova Launcher
Long press the screen
Widgets
Activities
Scroll down to settings (one with the gear icon)
Phone info (.radioinfo)
Screenshot below is from my S9+. I just sold the S10+. On the S10+ WiFi calling was grayed out.

Thanks for the information, I was able to find it under "device info", not "phone info". This menu does confirm that the phone is not provisioned for VoLTE or Wifi Calling. Not sure if it's a carrier issue or CSC issue at this point.

Yea I meant to comment back and note that it might not be called phone info on all devices. On the wife's Note 9 (soon to be mine when her new P3XL comes in) it was listed as device info. Either way, it should be listed as .RadioInfo. Not sure why they removed the quick dialer option to get in.
For the provisioning, you can try calling your carrier. It might not be turned on at their level. If they're anything like Verizon, they'll only troubleshoot for a minute or two then suggest you buy their branded phone as they can't support anything else.
Good luck! View attachment 4723805
