Nougat trouble - Verizon HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Anyone else having problems after the Nougat update? I can't send phone calls through the stock dialer. I can get a call out by clicking a number on a website or by using my textra app but not the traditional way. I am completely stock. Any ideas?

Done a factory reset yet to see if that will cure dialing issue?

I have not. I'm hoping to avoid that. But I will if it continues.

Have you tired clearing the app data?

Not sure how to clear that data.

Have you gone to the app settings and made sure the dialer is the set app for making calls?

I looked. Don't know where to find that.

I was having the same issues too. I tracked it down to wifi calling. Had to turn it off to get it to work.

I have Wi-Fi calling turned on and no issues

Same here. After upgrading to Nougat on stock HTC 10 Verizon variant, when selecting the "Phone" icon from the app drawer it would say "Operation denied". Open up the all apps icon on the home screen. Select Phone icon and drag to the home screen and replace the old icon. You can now open the phone dialer. Hope this helps you too.

I'm having the wifi calling issues as well. If wifi calling is turned on and I'm connected, it won't make calls out. If I'm connected to WiFi and turn off wifi calling it works fine. Haven't tried a factory reset yet but we'll see.

FYI factory reset didn't help me at all

Great. We can always try again after an RUU is available

Spoke to a Verizon rep online and they have not received any other reports of the wifi calling issue. Is anyone else experiencing issues with the play store and Google Assistant? Probably not related to the update but just wanted to ask.

While connected it an active wifi network you can;t dial out with wifi calling enabled. Not a phone icon issue on this one. I reported to verizon and they are sending a new phone

Wi-Fi calling has never been a problem , I always have it enabled. Can dial out just fine on or off Wi-Fi network or 4G.
In response to the "OP" who also could not use his "stock dialer" same as me.
By going to the "all installed apps" and selecting the dialer icon you are using the stock dialer version 8.10.878172 thereby replacing the "leftover" Version 7 Marshmallow dialer. Thats why it would say "operation denied" when using the "old" dialer icon.
Again, this solved my problem. Without having to fatory reset. Nothing to do with Wi-Fi calling in this instance.

google services not updating
I have been having intermittent issues on startup with Gmail not being able to retrieve email or updating, and Play Store also not working. Some days there are no problems, and others nothing works. I have the HTC 10 Verizon phone.

So I did more investigation on my wifi calling issue. For the people people that said wifi calling works after the update. Under the roaming preferences do you have it set to prefer wifi or cellular. If i have wifi selected no outgoing calls can be made if you are connected to a wifi network.

S7 Edge & HD Voice, does yours work?

I only had my s7 edge for about a week but my HD voice doesn't work at all oddly.
My s5 it replaced worked fine. The people I talk to can call others and HD shows but me it doesn't nor does mine.
I just not sure if that big update broke it maybe or something else so wanted to see if others are working?
I don't have a sprint store near I can go play with them at :/

Talking Sprint to Sprint. So your S7 Edge running latest update, the HD is working on?
Do you know what model phones you've talked to on the other end?
I'm calling someone with an LG G5. They can call someone else with an LG G5 and it works but talking to me it doesn't.
Not sure if it's some device compatibility issue (which would be new), my phone, my account or what.
My S5 never had issues so trying to figure out what the deal is.
I even traveled to a different part of town to get on another tower to test, still no joy on S7 Edge
Amazes me that all the S7 owners and no one could check this :/
I bet if this was about root people would be all over it lol.
That said, solved the problem.
It is related to WiFi calling. Turning it off alone isn't enough to enable HD (despite on older phones just turning off WiFi calling it worked fine.).
On this phone you have to actually turn it on and go in and "deactivate" it which also unprovisions the account. After that HD started working again.
I personally consider this a SW bug but who knows. I also think it's dumb they can't do HD while on a wifi call. It has tons more BW available yet you can't do an better codec?? Every other provider only gives you HD when you doing VOIP but sprint takes it away lol.
This may be old news too, but Google Voice cannot be activated either for HD voice to work. That said, I haven't had it work for me yet either on the S7 Edge, and I don't have Google Voice anymore.

I still can't get HD Voice calls to initiate unless I am using Wi-Fi calling. Anyone else having this issue?
Now that you mention it, my HD voice hasn't been working either. I did deactivate it, I didn't really use it anyway and did a radio reset. Will have to test again see if it works. I haven't tried a call since deactivation of it yet
In this context (Sprint) what's the difference between HD calling & WiFi calling? I'd naively assumed they were one and the same...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
HD voice is a higher quality call. It sounds much better and filters out background noise. WiFi calling is a way for your phone to use your wifi network to make phone calls. WiFi calling simply replaces the network with wifi and can be used for standard calls or HD voice calls.
My problem is that hd voice calls never seem to work unless I'm on wifi calling.
Me too en4cer, that's why I thought they were the same thing... The "HD" icon only shows up when Wifi calling is turned on. In what other situations *should* it show up? Sprint to Sprint calls over mobile network? Other carriers? Depending on the other party's phone & coverage at the time of the call?

Yes, it *should work when making Sprint to Sprint calls and both callers are in LTE coverage. It's not a WiFi feature, it's a Sprint network feature that also works on WiFi calling. I have not been able to get a single call to go to HD VOICE while on the LTE network. Frustrating!
This is so dumb
Sprint has issues provisioning the S7, so much like the iPhone, if you enable Wifi Calling, You can not currently use HD Calling. This also means you can not use Push To Talk.
My HD Voice has been working fine between to other Sprint callers that support it. I disabled wi-fi calling service, I don't really use it anyway. Also LTE coverage doesn't matter, none of Sprint's calls are routed over LTE yet, even HD voice uses CDMA network.

Hangouts Video Call Not Working

We just switched from Sprint to Verizon with 3 HTC 10 phones and tried video calls over Hangouts and have been having problems. When we do video calls over WiFi it works fine. Over the Verizon network we get a "check network connectivity" error. I've tried it between phones with full 4G signal in various locations in town, same error each time. Is there some issue with hangouts after switching carriers? Some setting I'm forgetting on the phone? I've allowed the permissions on all phones.
Can anyone who is on Verizon try a Hangouts video call over mobile network and see if they have the same problem? Make sure you're on mobile network, not Wi-Fi. I'm trying to see if this is a bug with the HTC 10 or with Verizon

Thought I would post an update: I tried to make a video call using Facebook Messenger app as well and it also failed over mobile network and worked fine on WiFi. I can't figure what is causing video calls to fail over the mobile network and why it's causing the data connection to drop. If anyone else is having this problem please post and let me know if you fixed it. We have 3 HTC 10's all with the same issue.

I've moved up the ladder with HTC engineers who are trying to determine if it's a software problem with the HTC 10 or with Verizon's apps or possibly an issue with Hangouts and Facebook Messenger. I find it hard to believe both apps are somehow not working right on all 3 of our HTC 10 phones. It's kind of strange that both these apps kick all of us off our 4g network as soon as initiating a video call. I hope more HTC 10 owners can try a video call using Hangouts over the Mobile network (not WiFi) and see if they have the same problem as I do with the Mobile Data connection being dropped as soon as you try a video call.
Unlocked version here and hangouts video call worked on 4G LTE

I just had an update for my Hangouts app and I tried a video call afterwards and it worked fine using the 4G network. Hopefully this issue is now solved.

Solved- Not receiving in-bound calls

Tl;dr Settings--> mobile networks --> mobile data --> untick Enhanced LTE Services (This only pertains to AT&T video calls and does NOT disable LTE for data)
After switching firmware from SM-G930A (AT&T) to G930U (unlocked) I initially noticed fast charging wasn't working properly. A few days after cycling the battery a few times I noticed my battery was dwindling hardcore without touching the phone so I decided I'd revert back to stock. After doing so and getting all of my apps and settings to my liking I noticed that no calls were coming through. Text was working, data was working and I could make phone calls out with no problem, no calls would come through so after fiddling around with the settings, factory resetting my phone twice, using odin to flash the files again, un-seating and re-seating my SIM card, I finally caved and called AT&T. They offered the resolution above and thought I'd pass the knowledge around and save others from the head ache I endured. Apparently they are having trouble with video call settings in some devices and mine happened to be one of them. Cheers

Wifi calling hidden on US unlocked model

Someone on AC has the us unlocked version that you can buy from Amazon and BH and is using tmobile on it. They said wifi calling is hidden on it but if you go searching using an app like quick shortcut app you can find wifi calling and enable it that way.
If anyone has the unlocked model have you tried this? If this is the case I might just order the unlocked one.
So has anyone tried this? thinking about ordering it this weekend so would like to know.
It IS there. in Quick Shortcut maker.

Wifi Calling on PH-1

I have enabled Wifi Calling on my PH-1 and I know for a fact that my carrier supports it. It works fine too, but it's set to "Mobile Preferred". I chose this setting because my Wifi isn't too reliable. However, whenever I call, it uses Wifi even though I am getting LTE+? Is there any way to fix this?
Does anyone have any idea? I have looked all over the internet but have not found any solution? Could it possibly be my carrier?

Not that I know of. I don't think they would look at your WiFi calling settings if sent out for repairs. Once you install Oreo open market firmware just relock the bootloader, setup your phone including TMobile WiFi calling settings. Once you update to Pie they shouldn't be able to tell anything because all different variants use the same firmware and your bootloader will be locked encase you send your phone out for repairs.

No, your carrier number will change. The port to GV takes approximately 24 hours. So you have to deal with a GV assigned number for a day. After that though you have your regular old number. I barely even know my new Verizon number as I don't give it to anybody. I figure this way, I'll never have to worry about WiFi calling or who my carrier is again.

I have the same issue. It was working fine on Oreo. I tried flash.all fastboot using the stock firmware without success. Let me know if you have a solution. Ty
Edit: I got it fixed by flashing flashall back to stock Oreo 8.1 open market from Essential website then let it updated OTA to Pie and my WiFi calling still working fine.

My WiFi stopped working again after I turned it off but I can't turn it back on just like before. Any time I tried to turn it on the phone app forced close.
Considering thanks to T-Mobile's wonderful coverage (says I have good signal strength, but it's not) I have Wi-Fi calling enabled all the time and it works well on the 5Ghz ac side of the router...not so well on the 2.4Ghz b/g which is fine. Again something carrier specific. I went to Pie and kept the WiFi calling running.
