[NST] Unable to mount boot partition - Nook Touch General

Hi there,
I got a bricked Nook Simple Touch and I'm trying to revive it. After booting into recovery with Clockworkmod I've found it's unable to mount the /boot partition. I guess it was formatted. When I connect it to my PC, it doesn't recognize the device.
Any ways to make it work? I don't know how to create a new partition. Can I flash any custom ROM for NST via CWM to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Noelia

I'd suggest you try using Nook Manager's "Restore to factory settings" feature (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351) and see if you can reset your Nook.

After reading that, I managed to back it up via Noogie + Roadkil's free DiskImager and also could take a look at the partitions using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
The boot partition has been formatted but the other ones are OK. I also have a back up from another NST but I can't figure out how to replace the boot partition using Partition Wizard. Could anyone enlighten me, please? :fingers-crossed:
Thank you all for your help!

[Please Help] Looping boot screen

Hi all,
A few months ago I rooted my magic and intalled a hero theme one of the JAChero ones, i believe.
Anyway, while in the phone I selected 'Restore factory settings' from within the options menu. The phone reset and now when it boots it just loops the HERO start up screen over and over.
I have still have the update.zip file I used and all the Nandroid backup stuff - but I don't know what to do with them.
Can anyone help?
normally formatting your sd card back to fat/ext/ls is a quick fix for this issue

update.zip: is just for when you install the rom, once you installed it now it is stored on your device so you no longer need a copy of it on your sd card,
I would personially save that to your computer though incase something like this happens and you dont have a backup but want the same rom then you dont need to search for it, you can simply put it back on your card, wipe, install
nandroid: is the copy of your phone the last time you hit the "backup" button in your recovery screen, you want to leave that on the root of your sd card (where it is now) so that if your phone ever gets messed up you can boot into recovery and do a "restore" (this is why you should always and only do a backup of a rom that is working and that you are happy with )
Hi,
Okay, firstly i've formatted the SD card to FAT/EXT and it's still happening.
I haven't done this in a long time... If I want to restore the phone to the backup do I need to use ADB?
If I boot into recovery mode I get the following options:
reboot system
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
Then at the bottom it says E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Thanks in advance.

your using a hero rom correct? so I'm hoping you just mistyped that because to start your sd card needs to be partitioned to [ FAT32 / EXT2 / Linux Swap ]

No as long as you did a backup and still have the nandroid folder on the root of your sd card, you should be able too boot into recovery, then choose "Nandroid Restore" it should be right under "Nandroid Backup" the one you chose to make the backup in the first place

What recovery img are you using? their normally is a build number somewhere on there [ i.e. Build: RA-magic-v1.2.3H ]
also heres a link to amon's recovery, their s a screen shot at the bottom of the first post of what that recovery looks like and those are the options you should have
RA V1.2.3
Right, I'm going INSANE!
It is a 32A device, so does the card need to be partitioned? Is there a way to partition the card in that way? REMEMBERING i can't do it via an app on the phone as the bloody thing won't get past the Hero boot screen.
I don't have the option to do a 'Nandroid Restore' - I think i used a Daldroid recovery image.
When I plug in the phone via USB, windows recognises it as 'Android 1.0' and won't let me install any USB drivers!!
Right, I can boot the Amon RA recovery image from fastboot.
I've tried fixing the partition of the SD card, but it's still looping.
Can I just flash another ROM now, or would that mess things up?

na you can ive had it happen to me a few times the first time re-formatting the partitions worked and second time it didnt so i just flashed again and it works fine...
if you like the rom your using you could try flash the same one maybe something messed up during the install or you could just flash a whole different one
either way the direction i would go would be
first: format the card to fat32/ext2/ls
second: do a wipe
third: flash
hope that works out for ya

you def do need to partition it for the hero rom or youll always get that loading screen that will drive you even more nuts then your going now lol

you wouldnt be able to use an app to partition anyway so that doesnt really make a difference but if your going to flash another hero i would use these directions to partition your card and also make sure your card is a class 6 (you can tell by the # inside the circle on the card (not the size i.e. 8gb but there will be a circle with a (2),(4),(6) like that))

Have you made a nanroid back up?
Make sure you unzip the rom from the right place on your SD card.also try and wipe the cache and reinstall the cm7 rom.
If that doesn't work! I can try and send you one of my old backed up roms.

you won't be able to access files unless you select disc drive, and you can't do that. are you trying to install through hboot?
if you take the battery out of the phone and go to the bootloader screen and boot into the recovery screen and select the nandroid screen you will be able to mount the usb storage from there at least i can from my wildfire, hope this helps you

NookColor stuck at RECOVERY in every boot! (T_T)

will post more info, sorry im trying all kinds of workarounds right now. only thing i remember doing is installing a pandora apk that has transparent widgets. thats it! will get back to this thread...
UPDATE 1:
Even though I hated doing it, I formatted /data, /system/ and /cache and re-flashed nightly build 150. After rebooting it still goes to recovery. T_T
Did everything again, but this time re-flashed nightly build 157. Boots to recovery. I just don't know what to do now. (T_T) Please help me, anyone?
UPDATE 2:
I just remembered--I did 'Fix Permissions' in CWM before it happened. After that it just keeps booting to the recovery, no matter what I do!
UPDATE 3:
Hey I have a question. Do you think doing 'wipe data/factory reset' will fix it? And if I do that, will it delete files in my eMMC? (I keep my Titanium Backup Folder there)
flash nc-restore-1.0.1.zip and root and flash CM&7 there. Backup emmc first.

UPDATE 3:
Tried 'wipe data/factory reset' and it did not do the trick.
I definitely need to backup emmc, since I store my TitaniumBackup folder in there (OMG!) but I just can't. If I try to mount emmc or even sd in CWM by going to Mounts and Storage while my NC is connected to my PC via NC's usb cable, my PC doesn't even detect the NC! T_T

Windows 7.
Alrighty then, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910008
Get the combo pack if you don't have the Android SDK yet. Then open cmd.exe, and type this in with the Nook plugged in:
adb pull /emmc/ emmc/
That's the command for mac anyways. I don't know for Windows.

This might sound stupid but does the Nook needs to be turned on (in my case it'll be in the CWM since it doesnt boot properly) while doing this?

I tried,

it returned:

I tried,
adb reboot
error: device not found
T_T will I ever be able to back up my emmc at this point??? T_T

IDK what exactly do you mean, but I ran first cmd.exe (after installing combo-pack) then wrote: adb device
UPDATE:
I've just realized... my PC was never able to detect my NC in the first place, if I mount it inside CWM. It does get detected if the nook is on, but not in the recovery. T_T
And did it say anything? Like:
error: device not found

Alright. It seems as though you might need be able to backup EMMC. There might be a way, but I am not a Windows guy and can't find out. Sorry, but you will have to erase all data.

Good question! I'm guessing he means it will continuously boot into CWR, but I thought that was a given.....
I am a noob and I want to do the same thing that is restore the nook back to original, so I can start over. I have cleared the system and file, but not yet the cache. Do I have to have an SD card mounted to restore? If so, what files should be on the card (including zipped or unzipped)?
Background. I successfully rooted my nook color. But in trying to download a purchased app from B&N, they pushed an update to a higher version (I think I was using 1.0.1) which bricked the nook. I've been trying to restore ever since. As of now, when I boot, I can get to the ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5 and navigate through the menus, but when trying to reboot, I can only get to the main ClockworkMod Recovery menu. So far I have tried to reformat the SD card and redownload files to restart, but no luck so far.
Thanks for any help.
If I format those sections will the SD card be wiped? I want to download the latest version from rom manager and start fresh, so I'm wondering will I need to connect to a computer after wiping.

ROM Manager only works when CM7 is installed on the eMMC. If you are running CM7 off an SD card you cannot use it to update ROMS.
being a noob, I'm not sure of the proper etiquitte for the forum. I don't want to appear to hijack the thread. I do need help. What is the right way to request getting back to working?

Go back to Stock ROM from 1337 ROM

Hi,
A couple of months back I had installed 1337 ROM on my Nook ST. However, I would now like to go back to stock ROM. Is using Nook Manger and selecting Restore factory.zip option the correct way? If not what steps should I follow?
Thanks
Using Nook Manager is the way to go. I know that there is a factory reset option available, though I can't remember that it is called. (I don' have either of my NSTs with me at the moment, so I can't check.)

Thanks for the prompt reply, however one thing that is bothering me is that I don't have a factory.zip file. Is it required or is it already present in an internal partition?

I believe it is in the internal partition, but I am not sure if the 1337 ROM changes that or not.

Assuming that both the stock recovery and factory ROM image in the backup partition are intact, one should be able to trigger a reset to factory-fresh condition by using the "8 failed boots" method -- power on the Nook and as soon as the screen flash on press power button to turn it off, do this 8 times.

Have you had any success so far? I just tried 1337 but it didn't work well on my device and restored to the original firmware. However I made a full backup image of my Nook (including boot partition and stock recovery) before installing Clockworkmod.
If you have not made this backup and installed Clockworkmod to your internal memory, it may be a bit more difficult for you to restore to the original firmware.
