I would like to clear everything in clockwork and start over, under advanced settings which sections do I format to do this? If anyone can list the exact steps to start clean it would be greatly appreciated!

Good question! I'm guessing he means it will continuously boot into CWR, but I thought that was a given.....
I am a noob and I want to do the same thing that is restore the nook back to original, so I can start over. I have cleared the system and file, but not yet the cache. Do I have to have an SD card mounted to restore? If so, what files should be on the card (including zipped or unzipped)?
Background. I successfully rooted my nook color. But in trying to download a purchased app from B&N, they pushed an update to a higher version (I think I was using 1.0.1) which bricked the nook. I've been trying to restore ever since. As of now, when I boot, I can get to the ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5 and navigate through the menus, but when trying to reboot, I can only get to the main ClockworkMod Recovery menu. So far I have tried to reformat the SD card and redownload files to restart, but no luck so far.
Thanks for any help.
If I format those sections will the SD card be wiped? I want to download the latest version from rom manager and start fresh, so I'm wondering will I need to connect to a computer after wiping.

ROM Manager only works when CM7 is installed on the eMMC. If you are running CM7 off an SD card you cannot use it to update ROMS.
being a noob, I'm not sure of the proper etiquitte for the forum. I don't want to appear to hijack the thread. I do need help. What is the right way to request getting back to working?

Hi all,
A few months ago I rooted my magic and intalled a hero theme one of the JAChero ones, i believe.
Anyway, while in the phone I selected 'Restore factory settings' from within the options menu. The phone reset and now when it boots it just loops the HERO start up screen over and over.
I have still have the update.zip file I used and all the Nandroid backup stuff - but I don't know what to do with them.
Can anyone help?
normally formatting your sd card back to fat/ext/ls is a quick fix for this issue

update.zip: is just for when you install the rom, once you installed it now it is stored on your device so you no longer need a copy of it on your sd card,
I would personially save that to your computer though incase something like this happens and you dont have a backup but want the same rom then you dont need to search for it, you can simply put it back on your card, wipe, install
nandroid: is the copy of your phone the last time you hit the "backup" button in your recovery screen, you want to leave that on the root of your sd card (where it is now) so that if your phone ever gets messed up you can boot into recovery and do a "restore" (this is why you should always and only do a backup of a rom that is working and that you are happy with )
Hi,
Okay, firstly i've formatted the SD card to FAT/EXT and it's still happening.
I haven't done this in a long time... If I want to restore the phone to the backup do I need to use ADB?
If I boot into recovery mode I get the following options:
reboot system
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
Then at the bottom it says E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Thanks in advance.

your using a hero rom correct? so I'm hoping you just mistyped that because to start your sd card needs to be partitioned to [ FAT32 / EXT2 / Linux Swap ]

No as long as you did a backup and still have the nandroid folder on the root of your sd card, you should be able too boot into recovery, then choose "Nandroid Restore" it should be right under "Nandroid Backup" the one you chose to make the backup in the first place

What recovery img are you using? their normally is a build number somewhere on there [ i.e. Build: RA-magic-v1.2.3H ]
also heres a link to amon's recovery, their s a screen shot at the bottom of the first post of what that recovery looks like and those are the options you should have
RA V1.2.3
Right, I'm going INSANE!
It is a 32A device, so does the card need to be partitioned? Is there a way to partition the card in that way? REMEMBERING i can't do it via an app on the phone as the bloody thing won't get past the Hero boot screen.
I don't have the option to do a 'Nandroid Restore' - I think i used a Daldroid recovery image.
When I plug in the phone via USB, windows recognises it as 'Android 1.0' and won't let me install any USB drivers!!
Right, I can boot the Amon RA recovery image from fastboot.
I've tried fixing the partition of the SD card, but it's still looping.
Can I just flash another ROM now, or would that mess things up?

na you can ive had it happen to me a few times the first time re-formatting the partitions worked and second time it didnt so i just flashed again and it works fine...
if you like the rom your using you could try flash the same one maybe something messed up during the install or you could just flash a whole different one
either way the direction i would go would be
first: format the card to fat32/ext2/ls
second: do a wipe
third: flash
hope that works out for ya

you wouldnt be able to use an app to partition anyway so that doesnt really make a difference but if your going to flash another hero i would use these directions to partition your card and also make sure your card is a class 6 (you can tell by the # inside the circle on the card (not the size i.e. 8gb but there will be a circle with a (2),(4),(6) like that))

Won't boot in what way? Can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Since you're asking about CWM, I'm assuming you can get into it.
If you did a Nandroid backup (the main point of CWM for me), you could try just restoring it. If you didn't, I'd try a wipe all settings and then reboot. You should be able to get back to a virgin state on the main OS that way.
I can get into it, the problem is i erase all data on my phone. Thanks in advance!

I'm still confused what your problem is.
You say the phone won't boot, but then you talk about erased data.
What exactly did you do to the phone? What was the last few things you did before you "broke" it?
What happens when you try to boot the phone (ie., it's powered off and you press the power button)? How far in the boot process does it go?
If your problem is that the phone boots but all your data is gone, there's no way to get back unless it auto-syncs down from Google, or you used a backup program like Titanium, or you made a nandroid backup in CWM.
If you made a nandroid, you should just be able to boot into CWM, select backup and restore and then restore your backup.
This is what happened....
I tried to replace my fonts in system that are supposed to work on a different phone. Then when i tried to boot up the phone was stuck on the silver google logo. Now, after that i went into clock work recovery and formated everything in the mounts and storage menu. After reinstalling the phones boot img, my phone freezes at the google logo. I can still get into the clockworkmod recovery. I never backed it up, but tried to use a nandroid someone posted online but i get a md5 mismatch.
Again, thank you for all your help!

Known issue. There is a thread in the Development section(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884499). The OTA "broke root."
Ouch. Now I understand.
In the future, always make a nandroid backup before messing around with things, easiest way to recover.
I see you're looking for help in this thread. Maybe they can help you.
You could also try flashing Doc's or Paul's roms also in that section.

Did you wipe/factory reset before attempting to install? I realize that you're pretty much wiped at the moment, but always best to start with that.

You've tried another NAND backup, besides the one that MD5 mismatched, yar? Be careful not to rename it, as that can cause the mismatch.

The custom rom? No, you just go into recovery, wipe/factory reset, install from SD card, then navigate to where you put the .zip on the SD card.
I see you did try the 2.3.1 NAND backup in the development section. Try downloading it again on your PC, unzip it, then place the new folder on the clockworkmod's backup folder on your SD card. Again, do not rename it.

Be warned that if you do get the NAND to restore, you may lose clockwork recovery. I know I did when I first tried to use it.
Don't panic though, because you can fastboot flash clockwork back on from the bootloader.

Make sure you unzip the rom from the right place on your SD card.also try and wipe the cache and reinstall the cm7 rom.

you won't be able to access files unless you select disc drive, and you can't do that. are you trying to install through hboot?
if you take the battery out of the phone and go to the bootloader screen and boot into the recovery screen and select the nandroid screen you will be able to mount the usb storage from there at least i can from my wildfire, hope this helps you

Here is a story about me and my phone:
I'm using this rom for about 2-3 months and it's great!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817793
But when I was updating some apps with the Play Store I got error 492.
Googled it and I found a thread on XDA and it said that I had to clear some caches.
So I did that and a Dalvik Cache wipe and I fixed permissions.
But it ended in an endless boot. So wiped everything and I did as an extra a Task 29. I flashed my rom installed INT2EXT+. The first boot after I flashed INT2EXT+ something weird happened: The WiFi just didn't turn on. I just turned it on but the slider bounced back after 5 seconds. Reflashed still that problem. So here comes the question how can I fix it?
Wi-Fi issues are sometimes connected to too small system partition. Perhaps caused by bad blocks. Make sure your system partition is bigger than needed. I usually add 10/15 mb above what the rom requires

Did what you said but when I let it start up I just see just a FC of Settings that's it. :crying::crying:
I rebooted it several times en every time it boots up I see ''Android is Upgrading''.
did you do a 'wipe data' because although the partitioning will clear out all teh nand, there may be stuff on the sd-ext/fat that are left over. a wipe data / factory reset clears those out too.

That's because int2ex need its own script for wiping dalvik, using the one provided with CWM will cause bootloops: both of you can find the right one on the first post of croniccorey's thread. Just search for "Dalvik-Cache Wipe Tool" then make it run from install zip from sdcard entry.

If you have int2ex installed then download and run that zip because if you use normal CWM wipe-cache-dalvik, you'll get a bootloop. this may help you?

I had been running Wanam's ROM, and using Perseus kernel.
But now when I try to install another ROM, kernel or change the CWM zip I'm using it will always come back with a status 7 error. Flashing some ROM's just reboot, and go back into CWM.
I'm now stuck in CWM and can't boot up any ROM or can't restore a backup as its also saying status 7...
Have done a day of researching but any solution didnt work. Changing the updater-script to allow the i9500 didnt work as it already allowed any device to flash it.
Any ideas guys?
cheers.

Is there anyway to move folder from external SD card to internal SD card within CWM?
It seems to be a problem with my external SD card.

I'm assuming that this is a exFAT problem as prior to this issue i was FAT32
