Here is a story about me and my phone:
I'm using this rom for about 2-3 months and it's great!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817793
But when I was updating some apps with the Play Store I got error 492.
Googled it and I found a thread on XDA and it said that I had to clear some caches.
So I did that and a Dalvik Cache wipe and I fixed permissions.
But it ended in an endless boot. So wiped everything and I did as an extra a Task 29. I flashed my rom installed INT2EXT+. The first boot after I flashed INT2EXT+ something weird happened: The WiFi just didn't turn on. I just turned it on but the slider bounced back after 5 seconds. Reflashed still that problem. So here comes the question how can I fix it?
Wi-Fi issues are sometimes connected to too small system partition. Perhaps caused by bad blocks. Make sure your system partition is bigger than needed. I usually add 10/15 mb above what the rom requires

Did what you said but when I let it start up I just see just a FC of Settings that's it. :crying::crying:
I rebooted it several times en every time it boots up I see ''Android is Upgrading''.
did you do a 'wipe data' because although the partitioning will clear out all teh nand, there may be stuff on the sd-ext/fat that are left over. a wipe data / factory reset clears those out too.

is it possible to get an app that the files which will be downloaded from the store will donwload it directly to the sd card?

Yes, it's called A2SD you will have to flash something trough CWM and partition sd card. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124

That's because int2ex need its own script for wiping dalvik, using the one provided with CWM will cause bootloops: both of you can find the right one on the first post of croniccorey's thread. Just search for "Dalvik-Cache Wipe Tool" then make it run from install zip from sdcard entry.

If you have int2ex installed then download and run that zip because if you use normal CWM wipe-cache-dalvik, you'll get a bootloop. this may help you?

I have been moving my Hero from Sense -> Vanilla.
But, after wiping, flashing, rebooting, there are some apps, like ASTRO, MyBackup, aNetShare, and Springpad, for example, that are already there after first boot.
And before anybody says that Android is backing them up, I'm not connected to any account!
How can this be?
It may already be installed in the ROM you flashed
I've found the same thing whilst benchmarking. I'll wipe everything flash a new rom to benchmark and the benchmark apps will install themselves on first boot. Something I'm as yet unable to explain. Having said that i've experienced no issues with this the two times it has happened (out of at least 10 different rom wipes) and all the apps have worked as they should.

Is CMH 1.4.1 ROM. I do not think CMH has Springpad, and much less MyBackup Pro, does it?

By EXT you mean Linux partition? Cause if that, i have no linux partitions on the card ... or not that i remember ... would have to check back if that is the case.

Should say "Wipe SD:Ext" in recovery. That's where all apps are installed if you use Apps2sd...
Full wipe usually means Data, Dalvik, Sd:Ext.

I did a factory reset, dalvilk reset, but i did not do a SD:Ext, as i do not remember having a partition.
But now that you mention it, it could very well be the case.
I would check as soon as i get the phone home.
Thanks.

If you have a good CWR backup restoring everything should bring you back know to working condition.
If not I would consider doing a brand new, clean install of the rom and link2sd. You could restore apps and data with Titanium Backup.

Task 29 shouldn't be necessary. When you say it disappeared do you mean the i on was no longer there? Did it show up on the all programs list? Did you look for it with a file explorer in /system/apps? Or maybe with ROM Toolbox?

So lemme give more details then, i did a factory reset, it was there wen the phone booted again. But after another reboot it all disappeared, nothing there in the app list or anywhere else, after another factory reset teh same happened, then i flashed the rom again. It was there n after a reboot it again disappeared, i rly dont get why this was happening, anyhow, i made an icon to the store after another reset n it stayed there n now it works but some basic apps r missin. Also it keeps having random reboots.

I don't know link2sd - never used it. My limited understanding is that it allows apps to be moved to an ext3 or ext4 partition on the card, yes?
If you do a factory reset all connections to the sd-ext partition are lost. Technically, the apps and data are still there but nothing in your device knows it. There may be a way to place link2sd back in a new ROM to reconnect with the previously installed apps but I am not certain of this.
Does your ROM have a DataOnEXT install option? It may be a simpler and cleaner way to move the data partition to the sd-ext partition instead of link2sd.
The Play Store should be part of the ROM you installed. I have no idea how it can disappear if not removed.
Like I said, if the ROM has a DataOnEXT option I would look into that choice but in any event you will most likely end up doing a clean install if you cannot successfully relink your sd-ext partition.

You need a fresh install, repartition your recovery, factory reset, then install the rom.
Coming to your earlier problem, i used to use link2sd but it gave me problems, the NexusHD2 ICS rom already has an a2sd script. I think the problem is that link2sd interferes with the a2sd script in place. My suggestion, DONT INSTALL LINK2SD! It gave me loads of problems, not the one you stated but still, apps wont go the ext partition and all that....
So install the rom again, ( remeber to clear cache too ) and use it without link2sd
ok, thanks, ima repartizion it, clear the cache n do a fresh install then. Thanks for the help guys
Hi everyone, sorry to post but I'm at wits end.
I've searched and googled all over for the past week and have found problems similar to mine but none of the fixes have worked.
If this has already been asked I apologise and will remove but here goes:
I rooted my phone and using the latest cwm flashed the rc1 of cm10, this didnt flash properly so I tried again, no joy.
I read around and decided to try with a different recovery, twrp.
So I tried flashing with that, again no joy. so i used twrp to do factory reset and cache wipes. As I was unfamiliar with the layout of twrp I'm under the impression I've deleted or wiped the cache/system and data partitions.
I've since flashed a PIT file to restore the original partitions, gone back to stock tried reflashing new roms. Its been a nightmare.
The issue itself is no recovery can mount the ext-sd which is actually the internal memory and cannot access the cache/log etc.
The phone itself shuts down randomly and then will not boot up.
Adb can't write or push anything to the device either, the strange thing is when the phones working for brief periods of time I can read and write to device memory?so at this point I'm flat out of ideas.
Any help/ideas or advice would be gratefully received, once again thanks guys

Ext sd is your sdcard.Internal memory is the system and data.
The pit file was not needed after you formatted the system. Its only for repartition.
My suggestion is to format system flash stock rom do a factory reset then reboot.

Sorry thats my mistake, I can't mount ext-sd in recovery to format it and nothing can be acessed in cache or cache/logs, hence I thought it was an issue with the partitions. I've tried your suggestion but will try again.

Is your phone booting fine ? I didn't understand your actual problem.I just checked the recovery.Sd-ext is the second partion for the sdcard./external sd is the sdcard.
If cache can't be mounted just format it.

Hi again. Cache can be mounted and formatted but recovery can't access cache/logs. My biggest issue is that the phone will randomly close when under stress and hit a bootloop that can only be cured by attaching the charger. The phone does boot I'm currently running pacman ROM. Tbh I'm fairly certain I wiped something important but flashing stock and even a pit file hasn't corrected it

Weired.Did you try other recoveries ? Unfortunately I don't have any idea of what else you can do.
I've tried cwm, twrp and am currently running philztouch recovery as this seems to be the most stable on my phone, I can mount every directory but sd-ext and it also cant format that directory.
I installed AParted app to it this afternoon during a shortlived moment of clarity, phone not me, and tried fixing partitions/blocks. the only viewable were /dev/block/mmcblk0 and /dev/block/mmcblk1
the former, blk1 had 4 pieces of varying sizes but no registered file system whilst the latter was fat32. Could it be that the unacessable sd-ext is in the wrong file format? I've read for cwm and philz it needs to be ext4 but I may be mistaken.
also the crashing seems to occur when an app or process attempts to write to our unaccesable area and leaves me in a bootloop stating the battery is dead. So weird...
beginning to lose hope of solving this and fixing my buggy phone
Anyone with any ideas/experience please help, I'm willing to try almost anything at this point
thanks again guys
ext-sd?
Have no idea about this, but who cares
Many TWRP and CWM first releases break /data and /cache when you format them in recovery
Only known fix for is to flash a full STOCK rom (sammobile tar.md5) using odin + PIT (the right one, memory wise)
All my last recovery releases fully support all format options on S4
By the way, internal storage = sdcard = /data
Thanks for your quick reply Phil. I've flashed back to stock multiple times using a pit file and the sammobile firmware for my device. No joy unfortunately. And your recovery brings back an error when trying to mount or format sd-ext. I don't know what the issue could be but its crashing my phone near constantly

Hi,
try to fix it tru kies recovery.
Have you tried formating your Ext SD card in a PC? maybe its corrupt?
Also the boot loop you mentioned, only being fixed by attaching a charger sounds like a faulty battery. Is it swollen in the middle?
I would try new SD card and/or battery and see if that helps.
I've tried lies and no joy. The sd-ext is a partition in the internal memory not the external SD card, confusing I know. Battery appears fine. During my reading someone mentioned it may be inaccessible due to it being in the wrong format also that it could've corrupted blocks of memory and the crash occurs when the phone tries to access said block. Any thoughts?

Hhhhmmm have you tried running a e2fsck on the sd-ext block?
Sd-ext is the second partition of the SD card while /external-sd is the primary. If you don't have a second partition that's normal if it can't get mounted.

sd-ext is in external_sd
If that's only error you get, it is not an error, it is normal
Google for sd-ext

Well that clears that issue but still leaves me with the crashes and bootloop.
When I try to flash a ROM via recovery it isn't 100percent successful and it then says it can't access cache and cache/recovery/log even though when the phone is running they are visible so I know they're there. This is driving me to despair now. Thanks for the input guys

Yeah I tried that. Still nothing
So i had the stock rom 4.4.2 not rooted
I flashed the cwm 6.0.4.7 with heimdall
And i tried from the external storage to install cyanogenmod
First at the installation i get an error about loki fying
After rebooting at the galaxy s4 logo up to the left i get small letters kernel is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit : kernel.
And although i wiped cache data dalvik and so on. I still have all the old data on my internal storage....
What am i doing wrong?
I am not sure where you are seeing a problem.
Is cyanogen not loading?
The kernel not seandrpid enforcing thing is normal. It means nothing to you in terms of daily use.

You mean like your pictures and stuff? That is because they are on the internal sd card. You don't need to wipe that stuff on a rom install.
please anyone help
every time i flashing a rom it going to be too laggy even after a full wipe !
even after changing the recovery the proplem not resolved !!
No solutions. All of us have this lag problem. Maybe it has something to do with our device from production.
Try wiping the whole device 3-4 times without -rf option enabled. It works. If it isn't working the use dreamstar's recovery and wipe the device
me too have the lag issue now

Tried this many times but getting huge lags
Any suggestions????
You have to format data buddy. Instead of going to advanced wipe choose "wipe data"
Then flash Stock and then you can flash any rom afterwards. No lags guaranteed

And format data for 2-3 times and format system for 20+ times???.. keep a stopwatch and measure the time it takes to finish one wipe of system. once all the **** is removed it should be like 10mins some said that it goes like 14mins.. easiest way is wipe for more than 20 times and reflash ROM download A1 SD bench app. Do a benchmark of internal storage. If Write speed is 20MB/s or more then your problem is fixed if not go back to wiping ???

One of the easiest solution
Hello Everyone,
As all of us (G360H users) know, no matter what we do, lagness comes back after few days of smoothness. I am going to share what I do as a fix.
After flashing any ROM cleanly, lagness bothers after few days. So what to do?
>After you feel your phone is lagging, restart your phone to Recovery (TWRP 3.0.0 and above)
>Backup your system only (to internal storage or SD card doesn't matter, it's normally 600 to 700 MB)
>After Backup is completed, go to wipe section and then advanced wipe then wipe only system (at least 4 times without -rf option enabled, wiping takes some time)
>After wiping system few times, restore the system Backup from 2nd step, once completed restart your phone to system.
>Smoothness can be felt again but it's gonna come back again after few days (normally in around 15 days) REPEAT above steps again.
There's nothing new but this saves time in backing up and wiping up everything or the hassle of setting up a newly installed ROM. All your installed apps and data will stay safe and as they were.
Regards,
S

And format data for 2-3 times and format system for 20+ times.. keep a stopwatch and measure the time it takes to finish one wipe of system. once all the **** is removed it should be like 10mins some said that it goes like 14mins.. easiest way is wipe for more than 20 times and reflash ROM download A1 SD bench app. Do a benchmark of internal storage. If Write speed is 20MB/s or more then your problem is fixed if not go back to wiping

Bro done all the steps and used dreamstar's 3.0.1 twrp recovery
Formatted data for 3 times, formatted system for 20+ times
But still getting lags, but they are least now as compared before
any more solutions???

Well you just have to do that for a little longer . When we use a storage we write and delete data continuously.. So our eMMC acts like a SSD when we write data they store in blocks and when we delete them usually the indexes are deleted ad data remains. so when we write something again those data in blocks are replaced by new data. So when lot of I/O precesses are going on it eventually remains filled blocks and they acts like fragments in HHDs, o remove them we need the process called trimming. Due to our eMMC's bug that wouldn't finish completely. So we have to wipe the storage manually until all blocks are completely wiped out and clean. Unless R/W speed will get low like 8mbps and that causes lags. Be patient and wipe until it's all gone
