KIES WON'T ACCEPT IMEI - S4 i9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to update firmware using kies:
on log-in to Kies it asks for Device name... and the S/N (which i assume is the imei # )
i have acquired the IMEI in several ways, (there is no label in the battery area)
a) dialing *#06#
and
b) via settings>more>about>status.
both no's correlate with the same 15 digit number
( i also back searched this number imei online, and it confirmed it's a GT-i9505 )
HOWEVER kies won't allow me to log-in, telling me it's an invalid S/N !
p.s. one further question:
the about ‘about device’ gives a 15 digit number, whereas calling *#06# it adds an additional; ' space/space03 ' which i see in the settings ‘STATUS’ section as the 'IMEI SZ' is this significant? I have tried entering both the 15 digit, and the 15 plus the /03
but all attempts have been rejected
is there some secret way of entering the S/N ?
any assistance is appreciated

The imei from dialling *#06# is just the first 15 numbers which are to the left of the slash.
If you are sure the phone is a 9505, download and flash the firmware from sammobile.com.

thanks for the reply audit',
that's what i was attempting to do, using sammobile, and ODIN, but got a 'partition failure'...
so i tried KIES, but KIES won't accept my imei.... (the 15 digit number)
a simple 15 min job is proving to be a PITA

Are you using the original Samsung cable? Tried different usb cables and USB ports?

i bought the phone without a cable, initially i didnt realise how critical the cable was, so i bought an accessory USB cable online, finding that my phone was un recognised. so i spent ages assuming i had other software issues etc. then i read about trying other cables, so then i bought another 'genuine' samsung cable (or so they said), this was no better, and my phone was still un-detected. i am awaiting a replacement as the seller claims it is genuine.
in the meantime i found an old micro USB cable in my bit's box, i think it's an HTC,. anyway suddenly my phone i visible on odin and kies, but i am getting imei issues on kies and partition failure on odin...
so the short answer is no it's not samsung but it appears to be working better than my other psuedo 'samsung' cables.
yes i have tried all USB ports, only 2 on the acer aspire.

Serial number is NOT the same as IMEI.
Kies is asking for a serial number and you giving the IMEI WILL cause Kies to fail.
Your serial number is on the sticker under the battery and also on the box the phone came in.....
It will start with
S/N......................
Edit.....If you have Kies, then you have USB drivers, but here is a link to the *latest* [as of 25/6/16] usb drivers (pulled directly from Samsung's own website).
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424942512

The partition failure in Odin could be due to the USB cable.
I have the s4 i337m and Odin fails to read the partition information without the original Samsung cable.

cheers 'keith'.... i was following a tutorial which suggested it was the IMEI that should be entered. it was all made harder as there is no label on my phone, however i was referred to the app 'phoneinfo samsung' so have all the info i need now., hopefully
thanks 'audit'... the cable issue is holding me up at this stage as the one i bought as 'original' turned out to be a fake, guess i shouldn't be surprised ! i'll borrow one from a friend and try my luck
thanks for the assistance guys, it's certainly a minefield

[BRICKED/URGENT] Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900

My mother has this model which long ago I rooted for her and installed a custom ROM for better battery, recently the phone turned off and never turned on again, at first I thought of the battery which was indeed completely uncharged but after that the phone wouldn't even turn on or charge (had to charge with a battery charger) it doesn't enter recovery mode or ever show the samsung logo when turning it on, but it can enter Download Mode, I have tried repartitioning since I have the .pit file with the newest Lollipop ROM but it gets stuck in initialized in ODIN, I don't know it there's any way in which I could solve this problem since she cannot go to Samsung and needs urgently her phone and I want to be able to fix it, I have all the drivers installed, the newest version of ODIN downloaded and everything and I know it is not dead from the motherboard since it can enter into Download Mode, has someone been able to fix this?
You are using a stock rom in Odin? Tried using the original Samsung USB cable? Try different cables and USB ports. Also try a different computer and operating system.
The fact that the phone goes to Odin mode is a good sign.
Odin mode is a good sign. Change the cable, the USB port and check the drivers. Also try a different computer, if you can.
Still nothing
Yeah I have practically changed form all the USBs in my laptop, from 3.0 to 2.0, also from my PC. I have tried the microSD card fix that I read from the N900T forum using a N900 unbrick.img file and everything but it still gets stuck on the initialization phase of ODIN, I have tried with ODIN 1.85, 3.07, 3.09, 3.10.7, with three 3.0 USB cables and 2 2.0 cables. I'm using the last stock N900 5.0 firmware that showed up, don't know what else to do, and there's no Samsung repair center here so thats not an option :C. Does somebody knows what else I can do? Because the computer recognizes the device as a normal Download Mode Samsung phone and ODIN shows it properly and everything, it just doesn't make like the right serial connection with the computer.
Edit: I have also discovered that when I disconnect the phone after minutes of staying in initialization it shows in ODIN that it failed but 3 lines of code appear:
Get PIT for mapping..
There is no PIT partition.
All threads removed
Don't know if it means something.
Seems like the NAND shat itself if it can't repartition.

And what can I do?, Is there a way to fix it?
Find a pit file for your phone. Make sure the pit file matches the amount of memory in your phone.

Already did, it doesn't get past the initialization part in ODIN with either the pit or any file
What about attempting a reflash with kies or smartswitch?
With Odin, you're using the original Samsung cable? Try other cables and USB ports?

Yep, have count exactly 14 USB ports to now, and Kies gets stuck at 0% :C
Progress?
Ok, after fiddling around with ODIN for almost 5 hours I decided to give Heimdall and its cousin JOdin3 a try. I deleted all the Samsung drivers even the logs with USBdeview and replaced the generic serial driver with the WinUSB one in order to use heimdall without the usblib error -12.
Everything fine with it and I have advanced in the way that it now kinda interacts with the phone via serial and not just initializes, but its receiveing an error which I cannot find a way to solve: https://goo.gl/FJJWJT
Anyone knows something about it?, I won't stop till I fix this hahaha
Use z3x box it will help 100%...

Really? What does it do?, I see it is an activation and unlock box
Question:
If I bought the motherboard of a SM-N900W8 that also has an Exynos chip would it work?, it's really hard to find a motherboard for the SM-N900. And the software doesn't seem to go anywhere :C

You did not mention the samsung kies, smart switch in your post. Usually I use those software to check whether my pc has samsung usb driver properly installed.
Hey, thanks for reply .
But I did mention kies, it does not see it.
Installed , uninstalled , and reinstalled the driver several times , still nothing.

It is hard to tell. It could also be assume that your usb port in the phone has a problem. Then again, you mentioned that when you plugged the phone in, it is charging.
I am sure you'd already ticked the usb debugging option in the developer mode.
Have you tried smart switch. When I upgrade my phone to lollipop kies does not detect my phone and asked me to use the smartswitch instead.

Sounds like the USB port of flex cable may be damaged.

No worries, we're here to help and learn from each other. Did you have an opportunity to try any other possible solutions? Do you have access to another flex cable?

PC won't recognize Note 4

Have a note 4 on a custom rom- android kitkat. Was working fine, until i wiped data/cache a few times in TWRP recovery to do a clean install of the rom. Phone restarted without an OS, and then i couldn't get pass the boot logo screen. Couldn't flash any rom in recovery. So i did a restore thru TWRP from a backup. So now the phone boots, but it pc won't recognize it. Everytime i plug it, I get "One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". Under device manager, I get "Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)".
Things I have tried:
-Uninstalled usb drivers and let windows reinstall,
-at least 5 different usb cables
-at least 3 different Samsung oem usb cables
-other usb ports on the PC
-3 different pc (all with same- so im guessing its a problem with the phone)
-physically tried to push up the usb port on the phone- bad connection (someone recommended on google search)
- even when as far to reinstall windows OS
-*#0808# and set it to AP, MTP + ADB
-yes usb debugging is enabled
-download mode (odin does not see the phone, so cannot flash stock/custom rom
-diferent versions of odin
-different version of Samsung usb drivers
-have other samsung phones (note 5, and s6) and windows recognize those.
-phone does charge thru usb
need to get phone working again
-
Download stock rom from sammobile and flash it via odin.
Or else, flash the cf auto root file via odin, this reset all partitions.

Sorry, my bad.
So, the author can try to repair partitions via twrp.
Go to wipe/advanced wipe and then select "Repair or change file system".
Select the partitions and repair them.

Honestly man search my username ziggsta2 I had the same issue I had to buy another note 4 and even this used phone I got off eBay has the same problem when I wiggled the micro USB cord up and down I got it to connect, I don't suggest you doing this, but what might work is taking a very small piece of plastic and cleaning out your USB port on your phone, I believe these ports go bad after awhile as I have encountered this twice on two separate devices maybe you have a different issue but theres my two cents

i have tried. at this point i think it's hardware failure with the usb port. Stupid buying those cheap usb cables probably damaged the port because it seems to require a little more force than samsung cable. Planning ordering one and replacing. hopefully i don't do more damage. Had this phone for a long time and miss flashing roms on it.
i have still not fixed this problem....lol. had a new phone and been in drawer. did replace the usb port but it wasn't the problem. would like some solutions if anyone can help.

Please Help: Galaxy Note 4 Verizon Hard Bricked

I have a N910V that seems to be bricked. First the phone got stuck in the boot screen, so I removed the battery
to reboot but now it will not turn on again. I tried all button press variations to boot the phone but nothing.
When connected via USB to my PC it detects a Qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 I do not have a 2nd working
Galaxy phone to create a SD card and I do no longer have the box with the serial number. Is there anything I
can do to revive this phone?
Isn't the serial number in the battery compartment?
Have you tried connecting it to Odin to see if it's recognised and if so download the stock ROM and reload?
Edit: just realised it needs to be in Download mode for Odin to recognise it.
I cannot get the phone into download mode and only the IMEI is printed on the sticker in the battery compartment
Yeah, I realised you wouldn't be able to get into download mode after I'd posted.
I have 4 x Note 4s (N910Fs and N910C) and all have the S/N immediately under the IMEI number on the same sticker?
Also, do you have a spare battery you can try?
I have the 910V and there is no serial # just IMEI and the battery is fully charged with 3.85V

ATT Galaxy S5 will not connect to computer

Hi Group... Newbie here and I am sure you will figure that out by my questions and terminology ... I am a Hardware tech specializing in Microsoldering...and Iphones at that. I just bought out another store with loads of devices I am attempting to fix and sell. I have been successful on most all of them, and now have an Att Galaxy S5 that I am getting trolled by.
It powers on (Has an unlocked padlock) while booting. but all APK's ive tried says its not rooted...
I wrote Att unlock and got approved with unlock code (Not attached to an account, not lost or stolen, clean IMEI).
I restored it using power/Home/Volume up (Padlock still unlocked)
I plugged it to computer to use ODIN to restore back to original Stock but phone will not connect to computer.
Developer mode is on and debugging checked... no drop down and not recognized by computer at all. Thinking it could be a charging / Data port (Even though it charges with computer), I swapped the logic board into another "Known Good" housing that does connect. It made 0 difference.
all other Galaxies connect just fine so Cable / USB Port / Drivers all appear okay.
Since I cannot use computer and ODIN, I wanted to try SD Card to restore original Rom... but nothing I am trying works Any ideasany

install this first
https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
when you put phone in download mode that time Odin should see the phone, if its not then also change USB cable, PC
under developer option check if its listed for charging only or mtp
also on dial pad try this
type *#0808# and enable MTP.
Gave up on this one...Can close post
Thank you for your suggestion but have tried all of that. I have 7 others that connect fine...same model with same cord and same computer. Have the Drivers, tried everything under *#0808#... However, I have tried testing D+ and D- as well and all is good. Changed u7000 as well and no change. I'm pretty certain that it has to be a hardware issue so I just gave up and put it in my parts bin as I don't know Android hardware the way I know Iphones and have too many hours in it to make it worth while
