What do dead pixels look like? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

For the last 3 days I have had a thin black line going across the screen of my S7 Edge. The line is horizontal and about half way down my screen.
I have done a factory reset and used several dead pixel fix apps with no change to the line.
Thanks in advance for any help.

such line errors are not repairable, only samsung or repair centers could fix (replace) the screen!

Vertical line of dead pixels

So now i'm truly dissapointed! Just found out my (2 month) Note has a entire vertical line of dead pixels that weren't there yesterday... Strange thing is that it only appears with some colors like red or blue. Isn't visible with white or gray backgrounds colors... I tried with *#0*# and the black line its pretty visible only in blue and red test screens.Tomorrow i'll take the shop where i bought it.

How it ended? I found the same problem!
I had this issue after the same amount of time. I sent it back to O2 they have replaced it with a brand new one.
I had this issue after the same amount of time. How do you solve this problem?
many thanks

How many people have this screen problem?

If you put the phone on lower brightness or auto-brightness, do you see faint vertical and horizontal "streaks" of discoloration or shading? It's especially apparent in the dark, and on grey backgrounds. My phone has this exact problem, and I tried taking it to a Verizon store to exchange it and they refused, because the two S4's on display had similar issues (although less apparent). So either this is a very common problem on the S4 or I'm just incredibly unlucky. Would like to hear from other Galaxy S4 owners to see how widespread this really is.

My issue isn't smearing, it's permanent, faint vertical and horizontal streaks or lines.

Strange, my S4 doesn't has.. But my old GNexus had vertical lines visible only with white or green background.
I think is lucky.. If you can, change it or ask to technical assistance Samsung for display change..
I am also having same issue in my note2

I've only seen this happening within CWM when flashing new ROMs to my phone.
All my screens had it (I had it changed five times for various other issues).
Mine seems to be fine...

Yup I have it too. The store are refusing to give me a replacement

try to test the screen first.
Go to Dial Keypad and enter the code below:
*#0*#
Test your screen by dimming and check if lines would show clearer.

How were you able to convince them to change it that many times? All within the 14 days?

I didn't get a 1-1. Went to the service centre. First time it was an issue with the sound crackling but somehow they changed the screen when they shouldn't (and I still hate them for it).
The replaced screen had a greenish blotch in the middle, so back it went.
Third had two dead pixels so I sent it back.
Fourth they replaced on the spot for it had a big piece of dust inside the screen.
Fifth has a small speck of dust under the screen which they refused to change for me in the end.
Still quite a bummer that five screens later I still ended up with a less-than-perfect screen. But I just gave up and it doesn't affect me too much nowadays.
I have the same problem.

I'm having the same problem as well..
That's unfortunate. I haven't experience that on mine and hopefully never will. Possibly just a faulty device.
Ive vertical lines really bsd!

Yup, I have this issue too on my international S4 (GT-I9500). This only happens with grey. The screen tests for red, green and blue are perfect. And they're only usually visible in the dark. Best way to show them the problem is to search 'solid grey' on Google Images, save one of them and show them the image on full screen in the dark. After seeing that, it'll be pretty much impossible to deny that it is a problem. I took it to service and got a screen replacement under warranty, but it didn't help. Still has those stupid lines. Most apparent in the dark on solid gray. I'm taking it back to the store on Monday, if they replace the handset and that fixes it, I'll get back to you.
Me too
I think this is another variant of the smudges that are apparent in amoled screens sometimes. Search Google for lines in amoled displays or something similar. There's loads of threads talking about the same thing.
At any rate, it seems to just be luck of the draw as to how bad it is, or if you even get it at all.
At least, if you have them, they don't worsen over time, and any phones that are made with amoled screens can get them. I have two lines myself. I've just gotten used to it really. Don't see them now, unless I look hard for them.

Dynamic white lines and static black lines on the screen.

As the title mentions it started with 3 static black lines on the very left of the screen (after a hard fall) and now almost 3 days after that I have almost 5 % of the left side of the screen permanently black and occasionally many white or colorful lines everywhere on the screen which they come and go randomly. I just wanted to ask if replacing the screen would fix this or if it could be that the gpu is malfunctioning. I don't want to spend all that money and effort for a new screen then realise that it was for nothing. Thanks in advance!

Anyone with dead/stuck pixels?

Got my first S7E, realized both the main speaker and headset speaker were very crackly. Did a swap and the new phone was great. On day 14 (luckily at least) a single dead pixel developed in the center of the screen. It appears on green, white, and grey backgrounds and is green in color. Not having great luck with this device.....
Anyone else experiencing dead pixels? I tried an app on the playstore which rotted colors for like 8 hours but still no change. Not sure if just need to swap it out again.
Thanks all
For some cases this could help to get suck pixels back to work:

Thanks. While that isnt the exact app I used it did the same thing more or less. Left it on for 8 hours and no change. THink I should run it longer? Also this may be dumb but is it possible the recent Samsung patches (which I know help with the touch sensitivity) might improve anything? I disabled the update app via Package Disabler for future rooting potential
I don't know if this would work if you use it for a longer period. Duo you have something to loose?
I don't think the April update will fix your problem.

How would one notice a dead pixel at 534 PPI? I'm genuinely asking since I would like to see how noticeable that is. Would it be possible for you to take a photo of the screen and try to catch that dead/stuck pixel?
For me it would be a pain in the... Staring at a bright screen and one pixel stays black...

See attached. Pixel is under the SU in SAMSUNG logo.

That's WAY too big to be a single pixel. The screen has 534 pixels per inch, and that "thing" is very big, so I think you have a cluster of dead or stuck pixels here, and I would get a new one ASAP if you still have the chance.

no chance to repair it by urself.
just take it for replacement
:good:
yep, definitely send it back under warranty from where you bought it.
Thanks all. I called ATT and plan to exchange again. They hadnt received my first RMA back (with the bad speaker) so once they receive it they can ship out the new replacement. Hopefully third time is a charm lol

Bad Amoled screen

What a bummer.. I have NEXUS 6P but it comes with a light vertical line (on gray and sometimes on white background if you look closely).. After research i found out that they are using Note 5 Screens. But really i'm dissapointed of this build quality of a premium phone. I fixed the bad colors (yellow and pink hue) with the kernel manager of Elementalx, but the light vertical line doesnt dissapear and they advice me to send for a repair Huawei VIP service (3 year warranty, just repair NO RMA), what shall i do send it in for a repair or keep it until its getting worser.
Please give me advice for this issue.
A lot of brands use Samsung amoled screens. But what does that have to do with build quality? It's obvious you have a problem with you screen panel. It's also obvious you should send it for repair. duh
