I have been using this phone for almost a month now, and God knows I love it, I love how big it is and how defining it's colors are but being a premium expensive phone it didn't deliver as was expected of it, I see a lot of threads regarding frozen screens, speaker stuttering, lagging, random reboots and many other bugs which are not all software related, shouldn't it be better if they make a phone like Nexus 5. Flagship but relatively mid priced, Comment if you guys are happy with your Nexus 6.

Mine doesn't exhibit any of those problems you have listed. It's better than any other android powered phone I've used.

I, personally, don't have any of the issues you've mentioned. I run my Nexus 100% stock and encrypted. I do agree that there are some reported bugs, but IMHO, most are software related. Hopefully you'll find a device that you are happy with, but I assure you, many of us here are very satisfied with the Nexus 6.
Have non of those... Give yours LSD instead of Lollypop!
I experienced issues upgrading to 5.1. First time I tried I started getting reboots about every 5 minutes... Restored my backup. Updated a week later again... Lost all my sound, restored my backup. Waited another week or two... Updated again and it's doing okay now. Still have a few random freezes and reboots, but its rare.
No prob's here and I love the *#&%$ outta mine :good:
Mine has no problems and runs perfectly. I had more problems with my galaxy nexus than I've had with this phone. It's perfectly equipped to be in the premium category.
no problems with my nexus 6, and i love my nexus 5 as well! worst nexus? have you tried a nexus one, nexus s, galaxy nexus, or nexus 4?
No issues yet imho the front facing speakers and phablet size make it my dream phone. The only issue has been the forced encryption and only when I didn't read enough before flashing.

N4 wasn't bad at all... I jumped to 6 straight from 4 and I loved it! Especially with the hybrid radios and LTE enabled... Great looking Glass on the back...

The encryption is a lot less of an issue than you think. I've had every nexus minus the G1 and nexus 1.... This is hands down the best nexus.... The 5 is it's equal but the speakers, screen, and camera give the 6 a slight edge.
The worst Nexus phone made ? What ?
I have owned every Nexus phone, except the 5 due to the tiny crap battery they put in there.
I have two Nexus 6's, one for Wifey and me, and zero issues on either. We're both running Chroma ROM and this phone is a beast. Great screen, good battery life, nice speakers, super fast and smooth like flowing water.
Out of all of the Nexus phones, I put this up there as one of the best. And after a few weeks of use, the large size becomes comfortably normal.

Idk man. I went from the note 4 to the nexus 6 to the iPhone 6 plus and back to a cloud white 64gb nexus 6. This is the best phone I've had period.

the screen and especially the speakers give it a HUGE edge, even though i use my n5 nearly daily as well(at work, on wifi).

No. The Galaxy Nexus is the worst phone Google never made (Google doesn't make phones).
Only problem I have is the terrible battery life. I'm a heavy user and get 5 hours of battery life on average (with android wear watch connected).
For comparison, my previous handset was an Xperia Z3 and with the exact same usage habits, I got 12+ hours.

Because of battery life or some signal issues? Or was it something else? I still use mine on 5.1.1 with my n6 and s4 everyday and other than battery and signal its a great phone. Now in town signal is fine and with the extended battery it's fine so I'm happy with it. Everyone of my android devices run 5.1.1, NP,n6,gnex,s4,touchpad, & nexus 7 and don't have a issue with any really but this n6 is the tits.
OP obviously has never heard of the GNex lol
I've had my Galaxy S6 since April 24th and it's one of the slowest phones I've had since 2012 while navigating. The phone also infuriates me when it closes an application that was recently launched causing the application to refresh I open up pandora than after going to the home screen receiving a notification sometimes causes pandora to close due to the aggressive memory management. The phone stutters so often when navigating and touchwiz also refreshes often when going home. As soon as I install a different launcher of course the navigation stutter disappears but the aggressive memory management is annoying. Most of the time I feel like I'm using a cheap android phone. I find the phone with only 300-700MBs of ram free while my Nexus 5/HTC One m8/m9 both have 1.2GBs free most of the time. I don't think it's fair to us consumers to suffer because they aren't able to make the correct changes to make a light UI. Watching a ton of reviews and comparisons non of the reviewers speak about the stutter/memory management.
I love the screen, opening multiple applications at the same time, finger print scanner, the build quality, camera, and the loud single speaker
I do not want to root the phone because I purchased it mainly because of MST when using Samsung Pay which Samsung still didn't release. I already upgraded to 5.1.1 to get rid of the LED always on issue.
I promised myself after selling my Note 2 in 2013 I will purchase another Samsung device once they release it with another Exynos chipset because it was one of the smoothest phones I've owned.
I own a HTC One M9 due to working at retail I was able to get a discount when attending their event. I had a ton of issues when I first purchased it at launch. It felt very slow, the battery would take 8 hours to charge until the phone cooled down. It wouldn't charge unless the phone wasn't being used. HTC addressed those issues instantly. I believe it's the fastest phone currently out on the market but I don't like the display, lacks MST, the IR blaster is weak but it can record. The camera requires too many manual settings to adjust to bright lights.
No phone is perfect...
I agree with the memory management; even 3 gb is not enough for this device with Samsung bloatware. Cyanogenmod is around 250 mb in size and Samsung Rom is nearly 2 gb; I understand the necessity for fingerprint reader etc but anyhow it just tells me Samsung is not doing it's best to optimize this device.

Is the only issue you have now the memory management? Hopefully Samsung will address this once the S6 Edge Plus (or whatever it's gonna be called) is released, they will issue a fix for the S6 as well (though this should have been done already months ago).
Tbh this feels like the slowest phone I've used too. There's times where I'll just use my m8
I've had mine since April 22, and have had no slowdowns or lags even with the stock launcher. It's been even faster and fluider since the 2 updates I've gotten on the AT&T.

As someone who comes from OnePlusOne, I love the S6. It's rooted with custom room, and this thing flies. Don't have any problems with ram management since I use greenify on most apps.
The only slight "problem" is my the battery usage and somewhat unresponsive display.
Sent fra min SM-G920F via Tapatalk
Many people don't notice the aggressive memory management until it is pointed out. If it wasn't for Samsung Pay I would definitely try this because it seems like they did get it to keep 14 applications open. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6/general/s6-ram-management-discussion-t3128229
This is the first phone I won't be rooting due to the features I would be losing if I did. There are a ton of roms out I noticed with a ton of free ram and I'm sure the phone flies but using the stock t-mobile firmware with almost 90% of the bloatware disabled it stills is sluggish when using TouchWiz launcher.

I've read and seen videos saying that they've noticed lag. What lag? I haven't had any lag whatsoever. Screen is super responsive and so are the buttons. Transitions are seamless, no stutter whatsoever playing Asphalt 8. I don't get it. I've had the phone since release day haven't put it down and haven't noticed the slightest stutter either.
Am I not understanding the meaning of lag? Am I one lucky bastard with a perfect device? Can anyone give me examples of lag?

Lol. You kill me bruh But for real, isn't the SD 920 "better"? That's not my opinion but what I've heard.
There is no lag on the Snapdragon version either except in a few games. Moving around the UI is just as fast as the 6S+ I came from and Asphalt 8 runs as smooth as butter.
Where there is lag is in certain games like Hearthstone. The game just doesn't feel optimized for the phone. Some have said it's an issue with Marshmallow on Samsung devices with certain games. It just doesn't make sense since the Snapdragon version has the most powerful mobile GPU on the market.

If we're talking about specific games not being optimized it's not lag per say. My iPhone 6s would just freeze for a second while scrolling through pages. That's what I call lag. Not sure what those people are talking about. Thanks for the reference. I did see the hearthstone being mentioned.
I haven't noticed any lag and I'm a power user on an 820. I think people may have stutters here and there. But I haven't experienced that. I did on my s6 once in a blue, but haven't at all yet on the s7 edge.

The only issues I had on my s6 edge and note 5 was redraw and it only happened with the samsung clock/weather widget. Besides I find that any potential launcher lag can be easily fixed by switching to Nova. Otherwise I haven't had any redraws since my note 5.
It seems that most people repoprting issues such as lag and hot phones have the Snapdragon variant. Not all of them though as some have reported having no issues. It's strange.

Not so strange when you consider the amount of devices built at different assembly locations. With the sheer number of devices being pumped out you're bound to have a lemon or two. What I don't get is people starting threads saying they're going back to Apple because the s7 edge is laggy af when they just had a faulty device. My note 4 had this weird lag and I brought it to the Samsung service center and they fixed it. My iPhone 6s had this weird stutter but I won't go around trashing the iPhone 6s cause it lags that's simply not true.

The only thing my S7 Edge has lagged doing was playing Hearthstone. Everything else runs good. If i return it, it won't be because of lag. It will be due to the horrible standby battery drain.

Lucky you. I lose about 15% overnight with all my power getting sucked up by Android system, Android OS and Phone Idle.
I'm hoping this latest update from T-Mobile fixed the battery drain in standby mode. If not, I'll likely go back to the store and exchange it for another. They told me another shipment was coming in this weekend and they still have quite a few S7 Edges left in store.

Yea. Looks like some are experiencing even more although this latest update seemed to improve things. I'll have to do some further testing to know for sure.
Yesterday though, it did look like something was leaking. I turned WiFi on and didn't do anything at all. I even set WiFi to sleep when the device was turned off yet somehow GSAM reported 9mb downloaded over WiFi and like I said, I didn't do anything at all with WiFi.
Looking for people who have had it for a month+. Is it already lagging or getting any worse for you? What do you like or dislike about it? Currently using a 6p and I held an s7 edge and liked it a lot but I'm unsure if I want to purchase it.
Also if you switched from a 6p your opinion would be a huge deal breaker. I am rooted running pn and some xposed modules that I might potentially miss being on the s7 edge.

I switched from a Note 3 last month (VZW S7E Gold, pre-order, received March 9). I thought I would miss the larger screen, the stylus, IR blaster, but I'm liking it more than I thought I would. It just feels so much better in the hand and in my pocket. Even the screen is nicer to look at. The pictures, no comparison, so much better.
One thing I've noticed is the LACK of lag. I haven't restarted the phone in almost 2 full weeks and there's absolutely no lag whatsoever. My Note 3 would need a reboot every couple of days for a refresh due to lagginess. Now I'm trying to see how long I can go without a reboot. Battery life has been great. I use it to tether at work a lot (get around the work filter) so I can't speak for the screen-on time as the tethering uses a lot of the battery, but I did get over 4 hours SOT at one time. I did have the SD notification issue, but it went away on its own, hoping it doesn't come back. The kids and I have also been using the Gear VR and we all love it, no overheating issues, no bugs, it just works.
Other than the VR stuff, I have no games, mainly use it for internet, tethering, navigation/Android Auto, Samsung Pay (love that!), XDA, etc.
So other than the worry about the SD notification I have no down-side. I do travel a bit, for work and with the family, so that will be another test as I'm out and about around the country to see how it holds up, but I'm confident it's a keeper. At first I just got it to hold me over until the Note 6, but now I don't feel the need for the bigger screen anymore.
Edited to add: Forgot to mention, I was rooted and yes, xposed was nice and there are some modules I could use back, but nothing that makes me want to go back. The pros outweigh the cons for me.
I've had it since March 9th (couple days before launch) and I absolutely love it. I do sometimes feel like there are a couple small cons, but by and large I love this phone. I came from a S6 previously and it's just different enough to have me obsessed with it.
The thing I'm really surprised about is how much I enjoy the gear s2. It works really well with the phone. I had full intentions of selling it. Now it's part of my arsenal. Answering a call in the car while using it is definitely clutch.

There quite a number of posts about it. It's a persistent notification of the SD card being ready for photos and videos. It's apparently a regular mounting/dismounting issue, but no word/proof if it's hardware or software related. Very sporadic and hard to pinpoint the cause or solution. Mine just went away. Seems to be more prevalent on first batch models. Not much lately on it.

Came from a 6p running PN and xposed as well and I have had the SGS7e for about a month. Being perfectly honest I haven't picked up my Nexus since then. I originally switched from the SGS6e to the 6p strictly because of the lack of development and rooting, swore I would never go back to Sammy, I still kind of hate them for allowing the carriers to bully them into locking down these phones but it is what is. Now after being able to do what I want for a while on my Nexus 6p, and loving it, I ran into the situation where I had to switch from AT&T to Verizon due to signal issues (I work in the hospital). I was able to get 2 SGS7e's on a BOGO deal so figured I'd give it a shot, and again haven't really looked back. Yes the TouchWiz interface still socks a bit, the lag is definitely a lot less now, hardly ever honestly, but still not like the 6p on PN... you just can't make that combo lag, always crisp and smooth! There are more adjustments/settings you can make to TouchWiz now so I don't totally miss exposed, but again everyone uses different modules so my experience may be different then yours, I mainly used exposed for visual tweaks etc... This phone will probably never see root so that is something I have to live with, but I will probably sell my 6p on Swappa and save the money towards the next nexus in case I get sick of no root. But for now the SGS7E works for me, I don't have a ton of time to root and tweak and figure out issues right now, the size is just right (the 6p is a tad bigger than I prefer), the interface is improved on the edge, more little niches to tinker with, the Camera is definitely better, and overall I just like using it better now. But again the 6p is no slouch, crisper/quicker/cleaner running for the most part and all the roms and tweaks you can ask for lol. Decisions, decisions lol its a great dilemma to be stuck in!!

Came from a rooted S6, but I really only rooted it (and stopped updates) to manage the battery life and keep tethering. After having the S7 Edge for slightly less than a month, I can say I almost don't miss root. No, actually, I can't see a reason I *need* root on this phone. I'd do it if I could, but it's just not needed. I don't even run any of the disabling apps. I've manually turned off a few Verizon bloat apps though.
Lag is non-existent, battery life has settled nicely. I can get an entire day and then some, with about 4 hours screen time. I have the always on screen off, as I don't need a clock and that's pretty much all it's good for right now. I have Google Now voice off as well. Other than that I'm running all the usual battery hogs. I do have aggressive doze set in Greenify. I forgot to put the phone on the charger last night after a full day of use, including some photos, Facebook, some light gaming and a few phone calls. This morning I woke up and it still had 41%. I'm pretty happy.
This is also the lightest, most useful Touchwiz Samsung has ever done. I feel like it kind of improves stock Android, tbh.

Yeah definitely I really hard decision. I may try to find one on swappa if the price is right.

Can you still tether? I have unlimited and that's the main reason I like to root.

I just downloaded the free FoxFi, went through the install and tethered my laptop to respond. So yes, it works!

Your last sentence is something that strikes a tone with me. I think some android fans find it popular to spew touch wiz hate. I get it, look at my signature, I've been with Android since Nexus and stock were one in the same.
Vanilla Android is fast and clean and beautiful. Buy by no means is it perfect or the best user experience.
TouchWiz is not perfect, it's not better or worse. It just has some enhancements that I think people always neglect. Samsung was supporting USB OTG and had split screen multitasking before anyone. Now it will finally be in Android. That's just one example. My point is this phone gets to that final level that a skinned phone can match or really surpass a Nexus in functionality, despite the popular concensus. It's a stellar phone, not just hype.

I gave up unlimited when I realized that we just weren't using more than 2-3GB a month, like, ever. I was paying a lot for something I just never used. I took the money and upgraded my home internet instead, where I use more data than freaking Google

Totally agree. It's the very first time since the OG Droid that I am 99.975% okay without root. I'd love to be able to write to the hosts file and not use one of the VPN-style ad blockers. That is the one thing I miss now. And I'm not even that bothered by the ads.
Really love this phone.
I have this edge and g5. G5 way smoother s7edge lags

Yes it's called an AOL (assumption of liability) someone pays you whatever amount you want to sell the plan for and you both call in and they assume the contract and or line. They must pass the credit check of course and Verizon has their own AOL department

Anyone else phone just not smooth at all? I'm on latest 7.0 and my phone is so slow for a phone with these internals. I don't get it. Is there something I'm doing wrong. This phone all around has severally disappointed me. My edge is so slow that it makes the iPhone seem fast. What do I do? Seems like memory management is still poor and this processor was weak, I would have been happier with an 8 core exynos vs 4 core snap 821

It's a Samsung with Samsung bloatware.. It's going to always have lag unfortunately. I've had almost every major Android phone since the HTC Hero that includes iPhone as well and Samsung is constantly the laggiest although my S7 edge has been pretty good still no where near an iPhone or pixel

Thanks for reply and suggestions! I've disabled a ton of stuff and it doesn't matter lol. I may trade this one in for an s8 or iPhone 7 plus. I really hate iPhones as I've had several of them and a ton of Android phones. The fact that we can't really mod this phone and run different ROMs made it dead on arrival. I guess I could try a different launcher again and maybe turn off all animations.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. I was trying to hold off to see what new phones sprint gets in a month or 2 but it's driving me nuts with this phone. Google really killed my dreams by not getting the pixel and XL to all carriers.

If the S8 is anything like the Note 7, I'll gladly move to it. I'll pay the fee to get rid of the S7E and move to the S8Plus.

Supposedly Samsung is going to sell 4.3 million refurbished Note 7s in the USA that has slight smaller battery capacity at a discounted price. if sprint gets their hands on some to lease out that would be dope. I'd either get that or just move to the s8. I hate the 4 core snapdragon 821 it's so ass...

Hadn't heard about that, looked it up, sadly it appears we're not going to get it in the US.

Only thing about the S8+ I won't like is the lack of a stylus. Tomorrows the revealing IIRC so I'll be anxious to see if that changes. I really wish it would and the bigger phone gets a stylus.

So no Note 7 refurb in the US? Wow that's weak. That article I saw was a bit misleading I guess. It made it seem like world wide they would sell. I'm sure the refurbs will probably land on eBay but that's a full price phone is rather lease. Well, here's to hoping the s8 and s8+ live up to the hype since other Android OEMs aren't technically iPhone killers. Samsung is but they definitely suck in everything but hardware...

S7 Edge has the 820, not the 821, even though the only difference between the 2 is like a 10% increase in performance due to slightly higher clock speeds in the cores & gpu. What you are experiencing man is typical Samsung lag due to all of the damn bloat on the device. I've been using a HTC 10 the past couple weeks that I bought from someone on Let Go for only $200 due to the misses breaking her Moto X Pure. I gave her my S7 Edge to use until she upgrades to the S8+ next month & was going to resume using my Edge then but nope not now! The 820 is very smooth & efficient on here with virtually no lag at all & also I'm fully rooted. Only thing I miss is using Samsung Pay & earning reward points but that's only a small sacrifice, besides I can still use Android Pay & while rooted too thanks to Magisk & if I need to return to stock for any reason I don't have to worry about no stupid KNOX crippling core features on the phone & driving down its resale value. My S7 Edge will be going up for sale!

Nah, I'm not rooting this phone unless I can run stock Android over Samsung's laggy POS rom. No point. I won't be suffering for long, I'll probably just give sprint this one back when s8 launches. This phone sucks.

If you put forth the effort to eliminate the constant issues you're having, because its possible, then you wouldn't be so stressed and irritated. If you're holding on to it for a while, why not tweak it instead of doing absolutely nothing. :cyclops:

Have you gone through and checked which apps could be causing the lag? (Facebook comes to mind)! I haven't rooted either and my phone has no lag. It's almost always some app that's draining resources.
The lag culprit has been found!!!
Just as I expected, the lag is do to thermal throttling. I get extremely low benchmark scores, like a little over half what I should be getting. Ran the benchmark programs with my phone in a cup of icewater.. My scores doubled.
I am on a S7 Edge 7.0 rooted android. How can I change my thermal throttling settings? Is there a script or a program to address this?
3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme Android benchmark test results:
No ice: 1549 (I got around this number every time without ice)
With ice: 2627

Developer option to fix laggggg.
I found an option in developer options that seems to help a lot. It is called do not keep activities. These seems to help keep the ui from clogging up with old worthless data which seems to slow android or at least samsung phones down to the point you have to reset them. I am typing right now like it's an iPhone. I have a galaxy s6 currently but I doubt it has changed. The developer options has to be enabled and if memory serves you tap 7 times on the software info so.ew here in the settings. I am sure it's easily found on the net. Hope this helps.
