Water Resistant? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Whats the deal here, had an issue and called tech support, looked like an RMA and one of the steps was to verify the water sticker inside the sim slot didn't get wet and the pattern of small x's was still pink and visible. Mine was but I had been tempted to stick it in the sink for fun but now no way. Doesn't this seem odd?

Not really, the sim/sd slot is the only non sealed from the factory part of the phone so it's going to be the spot where the phone is most likely to fail first. They're just directing where your old phone is headed once they receive it. I'm sure they have a whole dept dedicated to water damage alone.

Nope but you can try to switch it with another phone's little white square.

Good luck with yer fraud there. Those guys know *exactly* what the watermark is supposed to look like. Plus there's often an internal watermark as well (dunno about on the Vibrant). Also, if there are signs of water damage inside the phone other than the mark itself, they can still hold you accountable for water damage. The mark is just there, really, so you have something to check yourself or at the t-mobile store before doing an exchange.
I'd expect to have to pay the out of warranty fee if I were you. It's still less than the cost of a new phone.
How I fixed this.
The little white sticker is the same size as a fired .223 case. find a laminated business card or something that resembles the original sheen of the water indicator. put the .223 case into a drill (open end out) and use a piece of sand paper to sharpen it. (turn the drill on and hold the sand paper around it). Once it is sharpened place the laminated card or whatever you found on a piece of wood, (because drilling out the dot will leave marks on the surface of whatever is beneath it), and drill it out. clean up the edges if necessary, remove the old red sticker and carefully glue the new one in its place. I have done this with multiple replacements, and I have never had anyone look twice.
Someone posted a method awhile back in another section. Try using the search function. It involved bleach but I couldn't give you proper step by steps like that person posted.

just swap the watermark with your replacement handsets one....
Even if you figure out how to make it white again they will know.. I had a Tmo Dash that got wet and stopped working i got charged out of warranty fee even though the white dot was still white.. There are other tells placed inside of a device not to mention the board damage they will find when they inspect the phone..

I've also heard something about bleach but i'm too lazy to search for it lol
I heard using a q-tip with alcohol works.
There was something posted, if I remember....
Start with peroxide on a q tip. This will turn it bright red, then bleach q tip.
This is for informational purposes only. doing this for fraudulent reasons is wrong and could result in bad things happening.
Beware of angry gingerbread man
There is 1 by battery and 1 inside, go get cheapest fone you can find and replace the stickers. My phone fell in a lake, I went to visit my friend at an independent dealership and he's the one that told me to do it. We replaced the stickers and I called in saying my phone "magically" stopped working. They asked me what colour the sticker by battery was, I said white and they send me a replacement phone shortly after. I haven't had a problem...just thought I'd share my experience but you shouldn't lie...

Also if they do find it the out of warranty fee is $90, which in worst case is a lot better than buying a new phone.

Just use bleach I got water on mines the cover an battery were off an water touched it then I put bleach on it now its white

Oleophobic coating wearing off after a month??

I've only had my phone for about a month now, and there is already a rough spot developing in the lower-center of the screen where my thumb goes.
Has anyone else already started experiencing this problem? It's very irritating, my thumb kind of sticks to it now, makes the use of swype keyboard cumbersome at times.
You didn't wipe the screen down with rubbing alcohol or anything did you?

Nope, just regular usage and wiping it off with my (cotton) shirt now and then.

That really sucks man.. I only ask because I made the mistake of wiping one of my other phones with a cotton cloth with rubbing alcohol and you could see where the coating came off in places

Unfortunately, your situation is the reason most people put at least some sort of screen protector on their phone within a week or so of purchase.
Perhaps there will be some way to have a new coating applied? I have never experienced this problem before so I'm not sure how commonplace this is but logic would suggest there is a way to do it.
There's a coating sold at amazon that supposedly works well but is a little expensive for the amount you are given.
I've heard that Windex and dish washing soap are also bad for the oleophobic coating. I don't have evidence or links to support that. Just repeating what I remember reading somewhere.
As for my phone, I've had it two weeks. Screen still looks brand new.
Seriously, I'd take it back as a default.
They may assume you cleaned it or have some type of chemical on you fingers but that shouldn't matter.

Day of purchase!!! Then months later you peel it off and you have a fresh screen.

This! Never will I use my screen bear again. Screen protector is the best investment since a 401k lol
Yep:

My top left area of the screen is showing marks and scuffs in the oleophobic coating, I wonder if there is a warranty exchange that can be done.
I went to the AT&T store today to see if they would replace it. They wouldn't, because I missed my 14-day mark by two days; I got this phone on the 7th of May.. So I haven't even had it a month like I thought.
They said I would have to do a warranty exchange; however, I'm not sure if I really want to do that, since the rep said that they will send me a refurb and not a new phone.
I feel for you. This is not meant to be a troll comment but that is big reason I like buying Apple so if you have an issue you can exchange at the store. Samsung seems to make good stuff but I don't like refurbished stuff either.

ATT Warranty Inspection, After Glass Replacement....

So, I've got an s4 (still under manufacturers warranty) that I dropped and cracked the screen. Replaced the front glass perfectly, works fine now. However I'd rather not have a phone I tore apart so I was curious on how stringent ATT is on the phones coming back to them under warranty.
How thoroughly do they check the phone when they get it in their hands at the warehouse?
I've sent a completely different color phone ( that I personally painted a color they didn't ever offer) along with two new moisture stickers and they never said a word...hahaha

I was thinking of replacing my screen as well.. was it an easy process? Do you recommend any videos/tools to use?

That makes me feel a little bit better. But I'm not sure if you're talking about a phone under the additional warranty against physical damage or one under the manufacturers warranty against phone defects. I'm trying to get mine replaced under the phone defect warranty by saying the screen no longer functions properly.

It was tedious to say the least. And you'll never get the phone to work as well as when it's new from the factory, even if you try and use the LOCA UV bonded glue. It's just not going to be the same as the original bonding.
I've done the screen before, it just plan sucks. The plastic is very brittle around the lcd.and it will break most of the time. If you need a screen and your on mdl, buy one that is original and assembled. If your on mf3 or above just pay the $200 deductible and be done, because a original screen is $200 anyways. If you want to try the loca glue route I will advise you not to. The heat gun, temp gun,uv light, will almost cost as much as a good screen, or replacement phone from assurion.

Instead of committing insurance fraud (not allowed on XDA) you could sell the device you admit works properly and use the money to buy a new one, or you can suck it up and use your flipping phone that works perfectly fine.

XDA doesnt tolerate threads promoting, or discussing ways to commit fraud.

I killed my moto E

Well poo. I thought water resistant meant I could wash my phone off in my sink. So I did exactly what I had done on previous occasion and quickly rinsed it off and wiped it off with a paper towel (micro fiber cloth? I have gorilla glass, aint no body got time for that!) . I turned my phone on and noticed then water had gotten into my screen and touch was not working so I tried to just it off and it bootlooped. The screen is blank now so either it's stopped bootlooping or the LCD or LCD connector is fried, probably the latter. What's worse, if the manufacturer warrenty covers this (probably not) it doesn't on my phone because I unlocked my bootloader and was kinda proud of the warning so I never removed it. So the moral of the story: remove any evidence possible as soon as possible that you are rooted and/or have an unlocked bootloader, and try not to get a water resistant phone wet. Well, 4 weeks until I get enough money from mowing to get it from boost again.
Lol the Moto E is not water resistant, it's splash resistant (that's why the mic and the jack are at the back). Or at least that's what I've read.
Just plain foolishness...
Why didn't you just use a cloth instead? You would only need to lightly dab the cleaning cloth in water, not the entire phone.

no particular reason; as crazynapkinman said "Just plain foolishness...". Surnia! why did you have to have me as your owner, you deserved better!
I'm quite astounded by the stupidity. Were you born that stupid or did you practice at it?

It sounds to me like a mistake made in youthful naivety, and a hard lesson learned. We can all rest easy knowing that Surnia Mk II will not suffer the same fate!

When i read the title i though you bricked your divice or something but then after reading the content.... i would say that you deserved that :/
Wait, my moto hasn't given up on me! I pulled it out of the rice (without much optimism) and turned it on. The display worked but touch didn't. I tried rebooting and touch works! There is some cosmetic damage underneath the the screen but it might just be moister that is still trapped underneath the screen that will dry out with rice and time.
Which leads me to my question, do you suggest I open it up so is can dry? I would have done or already if there were screws but I have to lift the screen. Also of the answer is yes what can I use?

SIM Card Tray

Hey ladies
Got my second S7 EDGE yesterday and the SIM card tray is not flush with the device and I'm not happy about this as this is a expensive phone.
Should I get them to replace it?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yep, I've seen a few people post this issue. I would definitely get it replaced. it's supposed to be flush.
Mine was bent from factory where the hole is so it's above the rest of the body. However new ones can be bought cheap so I would not bother with a replacement if the phone is fine otherwise.

This nonsense would never EVER pass QA at an iPhone production facility. What a joke.
Get it replaced because the flushness of the tray is what also helps with the IP68 water resistance rating.
