Note 4 International purchase in Australia question (Already rooted) - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Hi
I recently purchased a Note 4 from a company in Australia it was a refurbished International Verizon model called an open box special was a great price at 499 but when it came I was surprised to find it was rooted and running a DongCHAU.A927 build number but was flagged as official not modified in the settings and Knox has not been tripped, its a SM-N910F but the boot loader is N910V. Its definitely not a fake but obviously not 100% official. There are also a couple of little things but they might be related to Lollipop 5.01 as below
When I click the spen button and point to the screen the air menu feature does not work, it only works when I pull the spen out
There is no link action memo icon so I cant link notes to actions
I am very happy with it but just curious about the above and I am also concerned what will happen if I receive an OTA update for example to Marshmallow will it brick or will there be issues, also if I want to put a custom rom on it will there be issues given the fact that its a 910F phone but the boot loader is 910V. There is no unusual software running when I boot into Samsung recovery or download so I'm not sure how they managed to modify it yet keep it official, also the firmware seems very genuine also the company I brought the phone off are clueless and just told me that's obviously how the international note 4 are LOL

[Q] current best root method 2/5 n9005

I just ordered my note3 sm-n9005 on sunday (should arrive thursday). and I was wondering what the current best method to root it without invalidating warranty / tripping knox. and installing xposed?
if there isn't support for loading a third party boot loader without tripping knox, what's the best way to back up my system image?
how can I go about restoring it if i seriously mess something up?
can i do a full wipe and restore without a third party boot loader?
can i do a factory restore using external means like odin without tripping knox / invalidating my warranty?
also, does anybody happen to know why samsung abandoned the *REALLY* nice design arrangement of the menu keys being a row of capacitive touch buttons across the bottom of the phone as seen on the galaxy s, s2, original note, and original samsung galaxy tab? - i've had several of these devices (i'm currently upgrading from an original note to a note 3), and I loved the row of capacitive touch keys vs the (pretty dumb imho) physical menu key (that can be easily broken or stuck). for a key you press a billion times a day over 2+ years it occurs to me that you should have something that has minimal mechanical movement to preserve it's functionality. </rant> - but seriously, why?
I know these all sound like n00b questions, but knox threw a wrench into my understanding of how to do this right. on my note i717 i can easily flash stock and twrp via odin, use twrp to back up the system (if and whenever i'd like), and install any compatible rom i please without additional implications... I really wish that the note 3 were that flexible. (and that there were more devs working on software for note 3... I'd really like to see ubuntu touch dual booting on a phone this awesome.).
So, before the phone arrives, you have plenty of time to educate yourself. There are thousands of threads regarding this topic.
Google and XDA are your friends.
Sent from my SM-N9005
first of all do not do any ota updates if you do like i did you can not root without tripping knox..if your lucky and your note comes with an early firmware you have a chance of rooting and not tripping knox.

it all depends on what bootloader you have.but as far as i understand it you can not use twrp or cwm without tripping knox

I bought my device used and was informed that it has the latest ota kitkat updates per about 2 weeks ago. is root not a possibility in this case at all?
you can root if it's still 4.3 but you can not do it without tripping knox...which is the same possition i'm in..my advice is hold off doing any updates or trying to root for a few weeks ...maybe somebody will find a new exploit

is there anything that I can't do if i trigger knox (besides sending my phone to samsung's warranty service). does selinux still work properly if knox is triggered? what's the feature actually FOR (besides voiding warranty)?

I might come a little late - but you seem to be on AT&T - are you certain that N9005 is what you wanted? My feeling was that the T-Mobile version was the only other one (than AT&Ts own, which has locked bootloader, while TMo does not) that could do LTE on AT&T, but I might be wrong

yes, i'm on at&t and it's the sm-n9005 that should arrive at my door tomorrow. the n9005 literature i've read says it is lte enabled, and from what i understand is exactly the same hardware that at&t's own variant uses chip for chip. why would there be a problem... and even if it does come down to it, can't i just flash the at&t modem and be done with it?
You cannot Flash t-mobile modem on a att n9005 and vice versa. Samsung now =dictator, your freedom is slowly becoming....

You will be very surprised
First things on the N9005 - disable security updates and reject any OTA updates, then check your existing firmware. Read in this forum and specifically in the AT&T forum if you can make things work, if you want to root read about knox and warranty.

[Q] Factory unlocked Note 3 updated with TMO OFW on Kies?

I purchased a factory unlocked note 3 about 2 days ago and out the box was 4.4.4 i presume. The manufacture date was in late 2014. I've been dying to get my hands on the official lollipop update knowing kies is about the only way. Long story short after the reboot i turned my head and i heard the T-mobile boot sound! I look over and see the tmobile boot playing. After that i suddenly have all TMO's bloatware and annoying little offers but weirdly half of the bloatware doesnt work. It all gets errors and so forth. I'm slightly confused as to why this happened. I purchased the note from an official licensed samsung retailer and the box was sealed. I just want to know why or how this could happen? IT just baffles me.
Its a TMobile branded phone is the most likely answer .
Kies has updated by the firmware details etc on the phone .

But i purchased it brand new, factory unlocked, directly from samsung. I had to order it from the official retailer but i had tracking VIA samsung's official support mail.
Did you try to contact the place you got it from?
What details re CSC firmware etc .
Use Phone Info from Play store .
Kies can only read what's on the phone .
Are you sure Kies gave you an update to lollipop .
Could it be that someone flashed a firmware ???

Help on s5 identification and possible downgrade

Dear all,
I lost my S5 recently, and since I was very much happy with this model I went to buy another one.
There was a chain of unfortunate events which I will skip here, but shortly - I fund the phone running android 5.0. Tried to downgrade - it didn't work. Starting from this point I became very curious, because I've downgraded that lost phone after automatic OTE update.
So, if I go to the Settings - About the phone I can see next thing:
Model Name: SM-G900F
Baseband version G900FXXU1BOC7
AP:G900FXXU1BOC7
CP:G900FXXU1BOC7
CSC:G900FITV1BOC1
So first I thought it's an Italian version of S5 somehow came to Malaysia (we live in Malaysia, yes) and they sold it to me.
Well, I went and downloaded appropriate (as I thought) firmware from sam-mobile and tried to downgrade. No success, Odin failed.
Then I was trying different versions of Odin, different firmwares - all without success until , at some point,I noticed that in Odin mode , right at the top of the screen was MODEL VERSION is SM-G900V (V, not F!!!)
Things became really ugly at this point, I realized that it's probably Verizon phone. I went to googleplay and Downloaded Z-CPU to check some more info, and this is what I found:
Model Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F)
Brand Verizon
Bootloader G900VVRU2BOG5
At this point I'm almost gave up. This phone was absolutely new, I opened the box by myself, and all stickers and protecting films were on place.
How is it possible that it was refurbish?
But it's not that important.
what is important - in view of aforementioned things, - can I downgrade it to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4? Lolipop 5.0 drains battery in about 4 hours from 100 to 10%, it's not possible to use the phone in this conditions.
If yes (I really hope) , then would you kindly provide me with step by step instructions?
Thank you
PS I don't need any root access, just bringing back old good kikat
Check which model it says in download mode, that's the info you can trust, anything else can be changed with firmware / edits / stickers
Agreed.....download mode is what counts......
If it is the V variant, it'll have a locked bootloader.......
Verizon and AT&T are the two main culprits for this behaviour, and it's certainly the case for the AT&T variants that the locked bootloader will prevent downgrading.....I can only assume that Verizon's locked bootloader will cause similar problems......

Guys, thanks for reply.
So, no chance, right?
If the bootloader is locked to the same extent as with AT&T, then downgrading won't be possible.....sorry fella...

Strange issue with newly bought used Note 4

I recently bought a used Note 4.
Now when I started using it, I observed something strange on it.
First when i connected it to my laptop for some data transfer i saw a new drive letter popup with Verizon mentioned on it and it automatically installed Verizon's software on my laptop.
Secondly, when I reboot the phone in boot-loader mode to check if the phone is rooted or not, i get the Mobile Model to be SM-N910V whereas when i checked on the back of the phone (under the battery) it is mentioned as SM-N910F; even when i checked Mobile Status under Settings it also shows SM-N910F.
Now i installed Phone Info Samsung from Play Store and it is also saying the Phone Model is SM-N910F whereas in Device Type it is mentioned as trltevzw (i believe this is the model for Verizon based phones). - snapshot attached
Now I am quite confused if I have an international version of Note 4 or Verizon based version.
Also one more thing... Root Checker says my phone is rooted but when i install SUPERSU; i can't update the libraries since it needs TWRP or CWM recovery to update the library (which is not available as my recovery shows stock recovery).
Any help in this regards will be highly helpful.
Thanks!
I'd take your device back to the retailer and get a refund. As there is something fishy about it!

Dear thanks for your reply but sending it back to retailer is not possible.
So any technical help would be much appreciated. .
Thanks!
Ok just an update...
First i tried installing official ROM (5.0.1) for SM-N910F from SAMMOBILE using ODIN but that failed giving some error.
Next I tried installing Official ROM (5.0.1) for SM-N910V using ODIN and it passed successfully.
Now Phone Info and About Status details match - Phone Model is SM-N910V and Device Type is trltevzw
but while doing this I have lost root access (which was already sort of useless because recovery was stock one)
However now Phone model and Device type part matches up.
Now IMEI on the phone and Phone Info are not matching... Anyone has any info on how to work around that?

Definitely it's an refurbished note 4 N910K SK telecom korean model and probably faked by N910C software on it and the sticker behind battery is fake too.
And i highly doubt the screen display is not original that's why it has issues and god knows what else is not original inside of phone so if you got any warranty return it as soon as possible because refurbished phones are made by chinese companies they buy damaged phones then replaced whatever damaged inside "definitely not original of course"
then they put a brand new body housing so its looks like new then same goes to box and other stuff.
When you are in download mode whatever model shows there that is correct motherboard model.
