can't see the nexus 6P inside files - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
i have nexus 6P and when i connect the device to the pc (win 10) it shows the nexus and i can see the files but if i'm going into one of them it shows me that it empat and i know that there is files over there, it on the "moving files" when it connected to the pc .
the phone without root and with 6.0.1
thank you

When you plug it in, go to your phone and pull down the notification tray. It will say something along the lines of Connected for charging only. Click that. A pop up menu will appear, select Connect for MTP. Your internal storage will be available. If not, you may need to install the necessary drivers.

it's on mtp and i can't see the inside files

Do you mean that when you go into some folders (when browsing on your Win 10 machine), files you know are there are not shown?

Having same issue. I have to select MTP again manually from Developer Options every time then only I am able to see files. It is really frustrating but I am not able to find any other workaround yet. If someone have any other solution, pls share it.

Soulfulgrey- no, the files are there but when i enter them they seems empty and when i see them at file manager at the device they are full (for example, the camera)

someone?

Same here,
I never had this issue.
I recently updated to MTC19T
Rooted and Xposed as always.
Can connect as MTP "USB for file transfer"
Can see the folders, Download and what not, and even folders under Download, but can't see the files, which I know they are there.
including files under DCIM
Would love to know if there is a fix for it.

Maybe helps:

Thanks,
That is about Nexus not being able to connect to the PC,
The reported problem is different, connection is fine, but can't see all files.

On,
Like I said, I can see some files but not all,
I'm suspecting that windows might be caching views and not refreshing.
Will need to test on another pc.

subscribed. i have tons of music filed into categories, then artists. less than half of them show, but i know it's on the internal storage, because I listen to it every day. I can also see said files/folders with ES file explorer

Found the fix. Install the latest Google USB drivers

Cannot transfer files with MTP / Device not viewable in Windows Explorer

When I connect my Nexus 7 to my Windows XP (SP3) PC via USB, it's obvious the computer recognizes it and it tries to install ADB drivers. Whether I choose to install those drivers or not, I still can't locate my device in the Windows Explorer Tree. I checked Disk Management for the hell of it and nothing but my PC's harddrives were there. There's an attempt to install drivers for "MTP" but that fails and I'm pretty sure that's the cause; however, I'm unable to replicate it, even as I uninstall/reinstall applicable drivers from the device manager the MTP failure never happens anymore. I did some googling and found a thread with someone who had a similiar experience. In turn, I downloaded https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd to try a different set of drivers. Same problem. Driver install is fine for ADB, but still unable to see my device in Windows Explorer. I'm able to successfully connect the device to the PC with PTP for the camera. I can access DCIM and cache which can serve as a work around, but I'm hoping you can provide any ideas you might have. Thank you!
edit - ***resolution***: Ok, I figured it out...I had to disable USB debugging. I don't know if this helped either, but I installed these drivers as an alternative to the drivers that were originally installed: https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd
While connected to PC, I switched to PTP mode because I was about to give up and just use that
I then disabled usb debugging and switched back to MTP at which point the drivers successfully installed and I could now view my device in Windows Explorer. I also believe downloading the drivers in the link above helped since the first crack I took at this was unsuccessful with existing drivers.
install pdanet on pc and it will install drivers for u so it will be recognized

Been battling with this on my XP machine since yesterday. I couldn't even get debugging to work until I installed NakedDriver. And even still, there seems to be no way to get MTP to work without turning debugging off. On my Win7 machine everything worked perfectly, both ADB and MTP, right out of the box. I have the Galaxy Nexus drivers installed on both machines (which I've read are compatible with the N7). I also have the latest version of Windows Media Player (I've read that some older versions have issues with MTP). Is anyone else able to run ADB and MTP on XP?
*edit*
A: Does PDAnet let you use MTP and ADB simultaneously? Because I really don't want to install it if I don't have to. I got rid of it ages ago (too many things starting up at boot time).
B: I have a Galaxy Nexus also, and I have no issues on the XP box.
I wouldn't bother with MTP, it's not always showing the contents of the internal storage properly when viewed in Windows Explorer.
Earlier today when I was trying to set up a backup profile for it, it didn't copy all the files off. On closer inspection I found folders like TitaniumBackup to be completely empty, which is not true according to ES File Explorer on the tablet.
I tried connecting MTP again, with USB Debugging on and off but this made no difference. Also I'm only seeing the Notifications folder instead of 36 folders on the internal storage now, really random how it's working.

1. Please disconnect Nexus7
2. Remove drivers on PC.
3. Toggle ON : Settings->Wireless&Networkings->More->NFC.

Same observation here (a few months later) on stock Android 4.1.1 rooted.
It seems that new files in the internal memory remain invisible for a long time, but so far they have become visible eventually, sometimes a day or two later. I have no clue what could possibly cause this, and I have not found any trick or workaround that makes them visible, not even rebooting. Any hint is welcome.

Workaround
I now use the following workaround.
Install SDrescan from Google Play.
Run it.
If you already had your phone connected to a computer as a media device (MTP) and are watching the contents of your SD card or internal memory in Windows Explorer, press F5 to refresh your view. If not, connect it now.
I'd be curious whether this works for you as well. If it does, press the THANKS button below.
Same issue with an old ibm x40 udated to windows xp pro SP3.
I've installed mtp driver, without success
I've "tried" to install asus driver, without success
I've tried to do as above with the help of the nexus toolkit, without success.
Everytime, the laptop recognize the device as android ADB interface.

install es file manager and simple copy paste the whole dcim/pictures folder to pc over the wifi network... (just make sure that pc folder is visible on the network - make it shareable)
- i use this all the time for copying files from pc to my phone when i'm too lazy to sit by the computer
or you can use quickpic's integrated wifi transfer option which can transfer pictures to any other device that also has quickpic installed...
I have the same problem and i want to root the device but I can't do it without the usb. I tried to use various apk root apps but all fails. Any suggestions?

I had same issue after updating to lollipop through the lg software. I have uninstalled all the drivers related to LG and plugged in the phone and it started working.
I have deleted them by going to Device Manager, then from the top menu click on View then select Show hidden devices then expand Portable devices from the list and uninstall your LG phone from there. Try to do that while your phone is connected. Then once you have uninstalled it, reconnect your phone.
Also, have you tried connecting your phone to different PC?
Yes, i tried with various pc and various os such as linux. Nothing. There are not working also the usb otg memory.

USB storage not showing up in windows

Anyone else with problems seeing the storage after plugging into PC? adb command works and device drivers installed. Found another forum where turning the usb from MTP to charging and back under developer options does the trick. I have a non stock ROM and seeing if fresh out of the box experiences the same thing.
I have the same issue and can't seem to figure out how to get it to work. My work around has been to use ES File Explorer and open Remote Manager.
Edit: I just plugged it in again to see what I can find. I turned off USB Debugging and Developer Options. Plugged in and pulled the notification bar down, there is an option to change USB Settings to Charging, Power Supply, File Transfers (this works), Photo Transfer and MIDI. Give it a go!

I'm able to get to the pulldown and change the setting from charging to MTP. Every time I do that, I get a window showing that I'm installing the drivers for Nexus 6P. Then it completes. I can do this over and over again. In the device manager, there's a little exclamation mark by the Nexus 6P and says these drivers weren't installed Code 28. I have exhausted Google to no avail!
Anyone find a solution to this?

So when you change the option in the phone from charging to file transfer, did you check the device manager to see if there any unknown device showing somewhere?

Changing it from charging to MTP shows a MTP device in Manager with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. When looking into the details, it says that no drivers are installed. When I try "Updating Drivers", it says "Windows failed to install drivers. Code 28" or something along those lines. Code 28 MEANS that Windows failed to install drivers.
Thanks for nothing Microsoft.
Nexus 6p Connection to PC Issue - This Helped!
I had similar problems with PC not recognising my Device. I found http://www.technobuzz.net/install-google-nexus-6p-usb-drivers/ which helped me solve my issues.
1. Downloaded and installed the Huawei Nexus 6p drivers. This installed a Huawei Task Manager which connection to pair was still not recognisable.
2. Deleted old drivers (acer, samsung, htc) from' Device Manager'. This actually helped PC recognise my device which showed up in the Device Manager>Other Devices>Nexus 6p, also in PC interface but once moved off charging to MTP, computer didnt recognise device.
3. Downloaded and installed the adb/fastboot installer. Followed instructions till step 10. My screen didn't show anything like Andoid ADB interface, it displayed MTP file install, which I installed. Just remember to refresh in My PC interface when changing over from charging to MTP, sometimes Nexus 6p will be hidden.
4. Uninstalled the Huawie Task Manager.
This has solved my problem with PC and Device connection. The instructions given are from what I can recall of the process I went through.
Credit to Sidharth Rathore from Technobuzz for this solution.
Hope this helps.
Later.
p.s. I have a windows 10 laptop if this helps.

I was having the same issue until I uninstalled some other debugging drivers I had installed. So I would recommend crawling through your installed apps for any other android usb drivers and uninstalling them if you still have this issue.
Working on mine right now. Found that USB 3.0 ports will not recognize device. Once plugged into a 2.0, it is recognized. Might help your issue

Nokia 6 USB Driver

Hi. I am a Windows Phone transplant. I got my Nokia 6 from Amazon and I am connecting it up via USB to put my music collection on the SD card. When I connect, it mounts as a CD and there is a setup for what looks to be the drivers there. When I run setup, nothing happens. The computer is Win 10. When I took the phone out of the box (from Amazon US), I noticed that the Amazon preloaded app took me to the Chinese Amazon site. so I think that this version is based heavily on the Chinese ROM. Does anyone have a direct link to the USB drivers for the PC? The ones I have seen on searching all look very dubious.
It was pretty cool turning this phone into an Android powered/Microsoft Services phone.
thanks
The Amazon app is just configured for Chinese. You can select another language, just go to the link next to the flag, drop down box, find the USA flag.
For the USB connection, after you connect the phone to the PC, on the phone, swipe down from the top and you should see a notification "USB *****". The "****" could be PTP, charging, MTP, etc. You want to use MTP to transfer files to the phone.
I am using MTP to connect, but has I mentioned, The phone is opening as a CD-ROM on the computer where there is a setup program with Drivers on it and it is write protected. If I try to run the setup program that it presents, Nothing happens. It starts, and gives me the Admin make changes screen, but after that nothing. This is the drivers that I think need to be on my computer to mount the phone properly to transfer files.
Mine did the same but as the previous poster said change it to mpt on the phone then in file explorer Nokia 6 appeared and when I clicked on it both the internal and sd cards showed up and I copied my music folder directly to sd card

I have the same issue. I tried choosing the MTP, even PTP as well, from the USB options, but still no luck in seeing the internal storage of my phone. Maybe this is a Windows 10 issue? I tried connecting my phone on my windows 8.1 PC and it worked fine. Anybody has a workaround on this?
my phone always have a pop-up ask me if I want to enable file transfer when I connect to a pc, maybe check if yours have the same pop-up.

Phone does not show as drive
When I connect my Nokia 6 via USB, I get a popup asking what i want to do (charge, charge and transfer and two I can't remember at the moment). It does not show up as a (USB) drive (i.e. it is not assigned a drive letter), but among the Libraries (like Downloads, Pictures, etc.). I see the CD-ROM drive with the USB driver setup as well, but I guess you only need that when the phone does not show up right away. (Maybe on older versions of Windows?)
I can write to the phone and the SD card. I have a 64 GB Samsung class 10 card, it writes at only 12 MB/s; is that normal?
When I clicked 'Properties' on the SD Card, I saw that it was formatted as FAT32, so that explains why I can't write large (>4 GB) video files to it. Shame. Does anyone have an idea if this is ever gonna change?. I tried formatting the card to ExFat, but then the phone just says 'incompatible file system' or something like that.
Can't get access to my phone data mother internal nor external

I have the same problem on Windows 8.1 x64
Nevermind, I found the solution for my device, I can't guarantee it's the same for you.
Open your settings on your phone
Go to About Phone
Repeatedly tap on Build number untill a message pops
up saying that you're a developer now.
Go back into settings and open Developer options now
Scroll down and find USB Debugging and turn it on.
That's it, you should be able to manage your files now
Finally Nokia is making Andorid based phones now. Because Android is the kind of OS people need today. With tons of application choice.
You can download the ADB driver for your Nokia in this link:
https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
change your cable. That's what the problem is

File transfer not working properly

Hello guys, i've got some problem with file transfer both in pc to op5 and op5 to pc with USB, i don't know why but apparently the problem affect only medium to big files. I can transfer little files like jpg, while i have some problem with mp3, sometime work sometime not, if i insist generally work. If i try with huge files like the OTA now that i'm trying to upgrade the oxygen is not working at all. I suppose the drivers are properly installed since i can open the folders inside pc. Obviously the debug usb is active, i tryed to enable mtp in developer option (is normal that there isn't any mtp selection in the four transfer available? even if enabled mtp i still see "recharge" "file transfer" "photo transfer ptp" "midi"). I usually select file transfer, i don't even know what MIDI is and ptp is only about photos. The phone is rooted with the last official twrp and last magisk, the os is OOS 4.5.8. and is still encrypted. PC is with windows 10
edit: i can't even copy/paste those big files from a folder inside the phone to another one always in the phone.
