Hello everyone,
For a long time ARC users suffered from housing cracks on their gadgets. On the Arc S users side, there was always a big speculation about new metarial usage on Arc S but it was not declared&confirmed by the SE company or any other person. Also there were some rumors and photos of cracked Arc S housing on web but non of them have sufficient proof about was it Arc or Arc S ?
I was beliving the same solace, it was new material until my neighbours Arc S cracked yesterday.
Here are the photos and video(720p) of Cracked housing. (Video is recorded by my Arc S but rendering in youtube was a little bit problematic so don't mind the glitches)

did you do something in your arc?like accidentally put apressure on some points? or have you drop it?
And I have an Arc S, witch cracked in 3 places!!! I am very disappointed! It happens instead of that the phone was not falling, used with care, no single scratch on it! I like to snowboarding...but this phone never was on a mountain -always stayed home! I can't even imagine how could it happen except SE failed with plastic quality! Before that I had Midnight Blue Arc, I sold it to my friend. So couple days ago I was looking on his phone and it had the same cracks. So how about collective message to SE? I would like a free replacement. I could do it myself, but because of glued digitizer it is a bit difficult job... What do you think of that?
I have my arc since late May, luckily it has no crack near the proximity sensor. Putting it in my pocket everytime I go out. I read somewhere that the cracks are prevalent to midnight blue arc. I have the silver one.
Now it holds me back to change it to white as the post above shows cracks of white arc s.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Man, do not look at those cracks...it is so beautifull in white!!!! If you do not know that they are there you can't see em))))) I think it is not the reason to hold yourself...matter a fact it is a bad luck for mee...maybee you will be more lucky))))
Guys,
There hadn't been any accident like falling or hitting to an edge.
Also there is another crack on the housing at the right side of phone, between screen and metal case but i didn't put it's photos here because owner of the phone believes that reason of this side crack is putting his mobile to jean pocket.
But crack on near the sensor is not because of user error.
Thank to my GOD that my white Arc S is perfect without any cracks and hope it won't...
i have the silver LT15i, over 7 months now and no crack at all !!
My Arc has it just above the light sensor.

this is ridiculous.. even arc s has crack.

design -> epic win
material -> epic fail
can we do like a petition or something, so we can all get free replacement ?

Design Failure!
Sony must make a recall to replace cases free of charge!
(I'm A student at mechanic engineering)
this is why I bought Xperia Ray with alloy frame
It will crack soon again. Mine got a crack 2 months after repair.

Sony replaces housing crack under guarantee without any payment but what about after guarantee period?
It's indeterminant...
By the way, owner of the mobile had experienced another crack at left side of the housing and changed his mobile with Samsung Infuse 4g
I would like to replace my housing for free...but I got no warranty because of I brought my phone in a Great Britain, and now it is in Ukraine. But I can live with that...I would replace my phone with SGS2 - white of course but! It looks iPhonish, it is Samsung... Maybee Xperia P will save me, but I do not know!

If I'm not wrong, Sony Ericsson have 1 year global warranty in all products even you bought it at foreign country. So try your chance...
Indeed, SE have it. But this is a country of idiots - if your phone is not in data base as importet ''Legaly'', wich is provided by costoms or radio frequncies control centr they wont service it for warranty, only for money. It is because of certified phone cost at minimum 100 dollars more instead of THE SAME ONE not in base... Stupidest system I have ever see...

Actually, Turkey is not too different than Ukraine.. For ex: Arc S is 300Euro in Germany but here it's 545Euro I've bought my phone in Germany and registered it in Turkey with my passport.
I couldn't check for global warrant in Turkey but for European countries it has 1 year globally.
By the way, i was in Kiev 6 months ago and phone prices are lower then us

Will never work, as the crack doesn't harm functionality.
And btw, Arc and Arc S are so cheap now, that it wouldn't be good for making money either
But the bad product quality and last years hardware (even in new devices of SE) made me want to change brands.
Looking forward to Samsung Galaxy S III's release

I dropped my arc S twice now, and still, no cracks or marks
It is sad about the cracks but I trie to just dont think about it
Sony SAT (STELLA, Madrid) refused to aply warranty in my cracked arc. They say the crack is because I have hit the phone (red circle mark) when this is not true. I search other xperia arc photos on internet and I can see the same mark and the same crack. Why that bad treatment sony?
My phone is the misty silver. You can see the same mark as mine in a blue one I found on internet:
I forget to say they made me pay the shippment costs. The phone is under warranty and this is not what the law say about a product in warranty period. Very bad!

Ask them to maka a little research on the internet. Most if these guys are scumbags.
You got 2 years warranty (if you read the warranry manuals). Dont be gentle against them.
I got that crack over the light sensor too. After a year, now its cracked.
Do you use a case on your arc?

Sony UK replaced the cracked housing on my arc S after 11 months with no questions asked - I just needed to provide proof of purchase. The phone was only gone for a week.

From what I know, the warranty covers only the crack above proximity sensor, which might have happened during the production.
Yours is not above the proximity sensor, most likely caused by yourself.

I bought my phone in April 2012, and until now only change will touch once (for a fall I departed the glass) and 5 months and fix it, and is running fine. (and when I repaired, I was told that the flex was not in perfect condition) but till this day I have not had any problems (but just in case I bought a spare original flex) but it's true .. there are some who have bad luck with their Xplay.y in this case I touch you ..
Thanks for the awesome replies XPlay friends, well, except for a few useless one/s...
I found this link with awesome item bearing the Sony logo, but I'm quite skeptical of the seller (company), and of course the compatibility of the item displayed. It's probably for a Neo L. But any idea guys? Is this company reputable? And any guess if this item will work on the Play?
Here's the link: http://www.etradesupply.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-z1i-digitizer-touch-screen.html

You have always been a great help to other users, friend, like EVERSINCE. Salute! And many many thanks!
I'm from the Philippines BTW. Just too bad the one with the Sony logo is no longer in stock.
EDIT: I'd really like to take matters into my own hands this time. Repair costs at Sony center are around $120 (converted from our currency), while buying replacement parts and installing them (which is quite easy) only costs a measly $30 to $40.

Okay, here are some results. I chose these particular listings as if you notice each item looks like its not a stock or generic photo, but a photo of what you should be getting. Still for safety sake I would contact each seller and confirm two things:
1. First that they ship to the Phillipines
2. That the item you will be getting does have the "Sony Ericcson" logo
Here they are:
This is from most expensive to least:

Like always @ozzmanj1, you're like the most helpful guy on this forum.
I already checked all your recommendations, and the price is pretty okay. As for the first one, they don't ship to the PH. The rest ship to Philippines FOR FREE!
A question, though: they don't look OEM, they aren't, right? And also, I read before that the glue binding the glass digitizer and front casing is pretty tough, and I've heard others breaking the glass part trying to push it off the front bezel. Since all the links you posted direct to a digitizer-only part, I think it'd be rather hard for me as I don't have a heat gun.
Also, have you found any legit site that sells the digitizer with the SONY branding? It certainly looks cooler. And will it work on our PLAY? I tried looking already but I can't seem to find one, even the one for Neo L.
Thanks again for the awesome replies!
You're making one man less problematic here.
LOL. For the links I provided I would recommend to type copy and paste an email to each seller asking if it's OEM or aftermarket. I will keep an eye out for the whole shebang
I'd I find anything ill he sure to post here.

So guys here's an update on this matter.
Last August 16 I bought a 'replacement only' (and not OEM) touch digitizer without the frame from a well-known cellphone repair mall (Greenhills, for Filipinos here who know it). It cost me around $31 converted. I took it home and didn't install in the next 2 days because I was busy at work.
I was very happy with the result as I got my phone's touchscreen working again. Also, the replacement part looked very identical to the OEM so I found it good. The replacement part, BTW, was probably bought from HK or China, so it would have been basically the same if I bought it from eBay, minus the waiting time.
This September-somewhat-5-days-ago-or-so I noticed that when using Merriam-Webster dictionary, I had a hard time pressing the search bar. I really noticed the fault when I started using Titanium Backup and when I press the upper buttons some work and some buttons get pressed even when pressing the button beside them.
Well guess what, yeah right! IT'S FU**IN' BROKEN AGAIN! The item has a 30-day warranty but it's now 34 days and I can't take it to where I bought it because I'm on vacation and have to take care of my kid and won't be back to work (and to the place where I bought it) until Sunday!
AAARRRGGHHH! THIS PHONE IS KILLING ME!!!!
Buy a new xperia play for $100 or a refurbished one for $70

This is awkward
I have one as well as my father both for over a year and a half and neither of them broke. (My flex disconnected once but I got it fixed via manufacturer warranty) The flex though probably did that via direct impact because I don't use a case and it may have fell with open gamepad.

It literally looks like someone pushed it inside the phone, on the left side it (top) it looks fine but from the bottom there is a visible gap between it and the chasis as if it had been pressured to the inside.
Now my question is simple, does this affect the water resistance?

I had the same issue, my port came out while it was on dock, i just used the tiniest amount of strong super glue and placed it back with the correct pin config and its working fine since then. Its a risk but its entirely up to you.
I targeted the glue at the area where the glue was already applied during the assembly. I personally think that the glue used during the manufacturing isnt the strongest one or wasnt applied correctly.

The phone isn't out in US yet, even thou you had purchased it from a US seller who imported it from a different country. If you check your contents, it would say which Sony Country it originated from. Once you find this out, it would need to be sent there for warranty.

Mine isn't loose, it's just not installed correctly, it's pushed inside from one side, i just need to know if this compromises the waterproofing or not, sony couldn't answer that question!

I respectfully disagree. What do you expect Sony to say? If you had made your purchase in the normal way you could have sent it back. As it is you cut corners and are now paying the price.
Learn from this. I don't spend this sort of cash by cutting corners. I would rather pay more but have that warranty.
Your Sony has a manufacturing fault and needs to be returned via the warranty system. Because you purchased outside that system you are now responsible for your own repairs and that's a real bad situation for you to be in. There must be a Sony importer for your country, have you tried to make contact with them to request a repair estimate?
I would think, I don't KNOW, that the water resistance must be compromised? Not a nice place for you to be in right now.
I hope you can resolve this with the least cost possible.
Regards, Ryland.
I totally agree with you but warranty is useless here, first the service center people are clueless and if they get a water tight device for repairs they will return it not water tight and if water gets in it's your fault, I've been dealing with them ever since my k800i so i know they are not even an option.

Repairs here are done through a third party company called Delta and they don't give an F about anything, hundreds have reported them and Sony isn't doing much about it, that's actually why only few buy Xperia phones here.

It is common practice in an awful lot of countries for a well known brands to use a third party for repairs. This does not affect your warranty though. Give Delta a chance and if they do not repair the mobile correctly send it to the Sony importer of your country directly. It depends on how much you are prepared to fight and if legislation is on your side.
I understood, but am not a lawyer, that Sony goods have an international warranty and as such IF the goods are purchased without cutting corners that warranty stands good?
I would strongly suggest you do not expose your mobile to moisture until the repair is carried out. Sounds like you are going to be busy in the next few weeks. If its any consolation where I live in Southern Europe is hell to resolve any sort of problem even with the law on ones side!
Let us know how things go for you.
Ryland.

Sorry to say this, but have to agree here. The problem is the seller, since your device isn't under warranty.
I kinda feel Sony Middle East just like to screw us over. I brought the Z2 and I didnt get anything extra with the device. I didnt get the NC headphones or the dock or the cover, literally nothing. I literally feel that sony middle east is screwing us over.
I believe u should just go to the dealer who u brought the device from. If u have the warranty card u can just scan it and send it to Sony. Probably calling them would yield better results

You're lucky, in Poland its the same.
In India they dump us with smartband which nobody really uses, case which i don't want and say its free when its not.
Am waiting to get a box just like you got. I can always buy these extras in the future if necessary.

Hahahaha If i were you I would just gladly take those accessories and sell them later on. At least there is some extra value. That's one of the main reason's I went for the Z2. Those extras do matter imo

Please, you are buying a phone not because it comes with stupid obligatory 'gifts' that you cannot refuse.
So many companies are doing this now because psychologically it works and you proved it. I always say how much gifts are worth. they say x, so i say give me without gifts and deduct x. But you know what they only reduce by 20%x or they refuse. So value of 'gifts' is a lie.
This was with Z1, with Z2 they put the gifts inside the box (!)
You are lucky.
I have W17 batch one also, and thinking about it, the only things I can actually say is that I experience the call quality thing (which I think can be fixed by a software) and also the gaps issue which has not really been big of a deal till now (Never dipped my phone in water however).
Camera is fine, back cover good, Flaps are great here... Sorry u go t unlucky mate... I'm actually in the same situation as u. Imported phone from regular "unprofessional retailer", no warranty. Till now, Z2 didn't launch in my country. So, yh!

i will let you know if the call quality issue is software related or not .. as mine is going back to the retailer for a "repair " i would imagine they will probably just pop a new mic in it , as im running .402 which at this moment in the UK is the latest software. i have also had a display issue with the screen jumping to different screens on its own,but its only done this the once.

So i didnt wanted to start a new thread. So ill post here . I also bought My new Xperia Z2 from Saudi Arabia. It was w20 model had screen gaps issue both on front and back . Bought it from Sony store and they said that it will not effect waterproofness of the device. Even then i was careful but after a month it was full of finger prints and i decided to wash it and unfortunately water went inside . All flaps were closed and i double checked it . When i took it to service center they said no warranty if water went inside and they will send it to Dubai please check back after 2 weeks.
I posted on Facebook as they may help me but this was their reply was we are sorry and nothing else
On twitter they are not even replying. and they just say contact service center and all i hear from them is excuses. there is not a single scrtach on my device. Unfortunately there is no refund or replacement system here. Really disappointed with Sony services. I saved money for 6 months for this device
does any one bought the z2 from sony in dubai ?!
my uncle bought me and I will get it by next week .
so I want to know the problems with this version of the device ( sony dubai ) .
sony stuff told my uncle to close the camera before putting the device in the water !! weird :/
it should be water resistant and we can take photos under water !!
