Hello everyone,
For a long time ARC users suffered from housing cracks on their gadgets. On the Arc S users side, there was always a big speculation about new metarial usage on Arc S but it was not declared&confirmed by the SE company or any other person. Also there were some rumors and photos of cracked Arc S housing on web but non of them have sufficient proof about was it Arc or Arc S ?
I was beliving the same solace, it was new material until my neighbours Arc S cracked yesterday.
Here are the photos and video(720p) of Cracked housing. (Video is recorded by my Arc S but rendering in youtube was a little bit problematic so don't mind the glitches)

did you do something in your arc?like accidentally put apressure on some points? or have you drop it?
And I have an Arc S, witch cracked in 3 places!!! I am very disappointed! It happens instead of that the phone was not falling, used with care, no single scratch on it! I like to snowboarding...but this phone never was on a mountain -always stayed home! I can't even imagine how could it happen except SE failed with plastic quality! Before that I had Midnight Blue Arc, I sold it to my friend. So couple days ago I was looking on his phone and it had the same cracks. So how about collective message to SE? I would like a free replacement. I could do it myself, but because of glued digitizer it is a bit difficult job... What do you think of that?
I have my arc since late May, luckily it has no crack near the proximity sensor. Putting it in my pocket everytime I go out. I read somewhere that the cracks are prevalent to midnight blue arc. I have the silver one.
Now it holds me back to change it to white as the post above shows cracks of white arc s.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Man, do not look at those cracks...it is so beautifull in white!!!! If you do not know that they are there you can't see em))))) I think it is not the reason to hold yourself...matter a fact it is a bad luck for mee...maybee you will be more lucky))))
Guys,
There hadn't been any accident like falling or hitting to an edge.
Also there is another crack on the housing at the right side of phone, between screen and metal case but i didn't put it's photos here because owner of the phone believes that reason of this side crack is putting his mobile to jean pocket.
But crack on near the sensor is not because of user error.
Thank to my GOD that my white Arc S is perfect without any cracks and hope it won't...
i have the silver LT15i, over 7 months now and no crack at all !!
My Arc has it just above the light sensor.

this is ridiculous.. even arc s has crack.
my conclution :
design -> epic win
material -> epic fail
can we do like a petition or something, so we can all get free replacement ?

Design Failure!
Sony must make a recall to replace cases free of charge!
(I'm A student at mechanic engineering)
this is why I bought Xperia Ray with alloy frame
It will crack soon again. Mine got a crack 2 months after repair.

Sony replaces housing crack under guarantee without any payment but what about after guarantee period?
It's indeterminant...
By the way, owner of the mobile had experienced another crack at left side of the housing and changed his mobile with Samsung Infuse 4g
I would like to replace my housing for free...but I got no warranty because of I brought my phone in a Great Britain, and now it is in Ukraine. But I can live with that...I would replace my phone with SGS2 - white of course but! It looks iPhonish, it is Samsung... Maybee Xperia P will save me, but I do not know!

If I'm not wrong, Sony Ericsson have 1 year global warranty in all products even you bought it at foreign country. So try your chance...
Indeed, SE have it. But this is a country of idiots - if your phone is not in data base as importet ''Legaly'', wich is provided by costoms or radio frequncies control centr they wont service it for warranty, only for money. It is because of certified phone cost at minimum 100 dollars more instead of THE SAME ONE not in base... Stupidest system I have ever see...

Actually, Turkey is not too different than Ukraine.. For ex: Arc S is 300Euro in Germany but here it's 545Euro I've bought my phone in Germany and registered it in Turkey with my passport.
I couldn't check for global warrant in Turkey but for European countries it has 1 year globally.
By the way, i was in Kiev 6 months ago and phone prices are lower then us

Will never work, as the crack doesn't harm functionality.
And btw, Arc and Arc S are so cheap now, that it wouldn't be good for making money either
But the bad product quality and last years hardware (even in new devices of SE) made me want to change brands.
Looking forward to Samsung Galaxy S III's release

I dropped my arc S twice now, and still, no cracks or marks
It is sad about the cracks but I trie to just dont think about it

Hey guys,
I'm a little curious but, if you're still using your FIRST X1 (Not exchanged, repaired, etc) and it has no build issues (cracks) at all, could you please sign in here?
Despite the prices dropping on Amazon.com (From 799 to 615 USD in less than two weeks), I'm still very curious as to how prevalent this issue really is. So please, show me the light!
Cheers.
i got a crack-free x1 bought in denmark, importet from UK.

i have used it in about a month now, and bought it used, so a little over a month.
bought it onthe first sunday of feb. dun rememebr date, unlocked, no problems. production date 08w49
Bought mine in November in the UK .. not long after it was released .. nothing wrong with it ..
Mine is crack free...but the battery cover got lots of scratches.
bought x1a from sonystyle.com in November. Still good.
I'm currently still using my first X1 But not for long anymore. Mine will go into repair tomorrow (just finished reverting it back to stock ROM & SPL). I have a crack at the stylus (I could somewhat live with it as it wans't that bad), and since the end of this week a crack at the batterycomponent (which is no longer acceptable).
I noted all the information I could retrieve from the phone (Serial numbers, IMEI, etc) and marked the Micro SD slot with a pen, as that will allow me to easily recognize if I get a new one or that they will simply put a new back cover on my current one
Still using my first Xperia, got it November of last year ..thinking about getting it replaced though 'cause the keyboard's bugging out one me...
Guys,
Thank you for all the information thus far, please, keep em coming!
Cheers.
I bought black X1i used, it's from December I think. When I got it, the keypad already peeled of sporadically and some very very very minor scratches on the battery cover and the edge near the mic hole... But no crack... And judging from the previous owner, he probably a very careful and tidy person... Just taking a wild guess because the X1 have 2 screen protectors.
The keypad peeling off issue is very very minor to me, in fact, I'm in the process of completely peeling off the keypad outer covering myself. I already completely peeled off the leftward keypad and it really is much better without the coating.
If (knock on wood) the crack issue doesn't rear its ugly head on my X1i, I'll probably replace the casing sometimes in the future, when true wear and tear came up... But for now, quite satisfied, considering how cheap I bought it
im still using my first X1. some scratches on the side due to my recklessness.
thinking of sending to repair cos some keys are getting harder to press. slowing down my typing speed...
Got mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free, no problems at all. I'm just lovin it. Production - 08w46.....
Had mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free. I take the batter cover off all the time messing with roms and still no problems. I do use a PD air case. Production - 08w45
pretty sure its a UK version.
had mine since 1 mth ago, accidently threw my keys and phone into the same pocket... now a bit of the plastic from the dpad is scratched off... its like mona lisa with a massive pimple ><'' and some minor scratches on the battery cover... apart from that, no cracks, 08wk49 one
I'm also still using my first Xperia, and have had no problems whatsoever.
Go for it
I've had more than one silver Xperias to date
No problems so far
But reading other's stories now I undersand why SONY broke up with HTC...
("quality issues" they stated, and 1/3 of the forum seems to proove it)

gtrab,
Aye. From the looks of it, purchasing an Xperia will land me a 30%+ chance of obtaining a crack within a month. Considering the fact that the Xperia I intend to purchase is unlocked and without a contract, the costs of repairs will likely not be covered. One way or the other, I foresee SE giving me the big turnaround when it happens.
The risks are so high and the chances so slim to even find a problem-free Xperia. I'll give it a couple more days and see how the votes go. Maybe it'll change.
Cheers.
i bough an x1 from UK first week in november,so 3months old and some days, and i only have a crack where battery is.on the side.it is not anoying.otherwise it is ok,no marks and cracks.i have black xperia, week 48.
I also had very bad experience with sony india from last 2 years
Bought Xperia S last year due to worst after sales support sold it and bought another phone from local importer with out any sony india warranty for very less price Very happy with that fone. I will never buy a sony product from sony india from now on wards..
Jus thought of trying once again and giving a chance. bought XPeria Z1 in india. Used for 10 days, found lots of internal issues software. and display issues. given the fone to sony authorised service centre on 1st Oct, still now no word of dispatching the device.
called Xperia Support on 180030002800
If you are planning to buy a sony phone in india think 100 times if you are concerned about after sales support.

Hmm think Sony need to look at their customer service skills in India, im from the UK and i've not had a negative experience yet, but ive noticed over the past few days a lot threads being opened with issues and 90% of the users had purchased the Z1 from India, sounds like there very well could be a bad batch of Z1's there.
India got so much free swag too.
Like sofir said, it seems like a India issue.

I am also from India.. I have used 3 sony mobiles so far including the z1, I never had any issues with these devices. I visited the service center only once that too because I damaged the display by dropping my old Walkman series phone..I also find the z1 really good with no display issue or any other hardware issues.. just some bugs in the software here and there which is common for any newly launched devices.. I would say for you its just a bad luck.
maybe there is problem with Sony in India or maybe people from India complain about imaginary things or a mixture of both, if you go to any of the xperia Sony mobile support forums there are a considerable amount of nonsense complaints and a lot of them come from India posters - I believe there's a recent one claiming that they dropped their Z1 from a height of 12 inches onto carpet and the screen broke, other complaining about battery life and when they produce pictures of screen they are very obviously edited to support nonsense claims - another one is "my phone gets so hot I can't touch it and it burns me" a complete pile of sh$$$
Oh and my phone got water in it - I wash it everyday with the dishes - wtf ?
My phone just broke sitting on a table - my phone broke while in my pocket - my phone screen broke dropping from 12" onto a carpet floor - If someone came into a Sony service center to me with a story like that I'd hang myself
Although there may be genuine complaints in India (just like everywhere else) an awful lot of them are trivial self inflicted or just plain stupid - sorry but that is how I see it
So "No" I will definitely not be reading about issues reported in India as a basis for deciding anything
Enjoy your Z1 and man up

and they were exactly right - we are all aware here that the Z1 shipped with early camera software and will be updated soon, in saying that - the camera right now is outstanding, hard to believe that it's going to get better - there are plenty of pictures on this site and around the net taken with the Z1 and they are generally outstanding - in certain conditions there is some noise but that is currently normal until we see and update
so read my post above again and tell me why Sony service center should have taken it up the ass for your none issue - you just made my case
now enjoy your Z1 and stop with the BS
Not going to reply here again as it's a waste of time - I've made my point

Just get rid of any case you've applied on your phone (ignore this if you haven't), clean the camera lens & area around it with a moist clean microfiber cloth & make sure there isn't any screen protector film covering the lens or flash. Try again, most specifically in the manual mode. If you still have problems, maybe then I'd say your phone does have a problem. In that case try another service center.
BTW, I've had a relatively good experience with sony service here at my place (India) till date. Had my XZ replaced several times without any issues.
I have no issues with sonys after sales service i had the z and its flap over the sd card slot came off and they repaired it and gave me back in exact 7 working days as they said..it was exactly on time.and i was surprized

whether you like to admit it or not, Indians are extremely sh**y customers.
bought my Z1 from a sony show room and im in love with the phone.
agreed that it has a lot of issues that needs to be ironed out (particularly with the battery life and the camera)
This should/will be addressed by sony in the near future.
Fellows,
Unfortunately, I bought the most defected Xperia Z2 unit ever, 14W17, below is my complain to Sony Middle East Facebook page, after sending them lots of emails with no response at all.

To do so I have to travel to another country, which is impossible to me, also the seller is not professional enough to ship the device directly to him, its almost like a device with no warranty, thats why i'm trying with Sony.
appreciate your comments there to apply more pressure.
Thanks
Then your problem might be with your seller, not with Sony

Sorry to say this, but have to agree here. The problem is the seller, since your device isn't under warranty.
I kinda feel Sony Middle East just like to screw us over. I brought the Z2 and I didnt get anything extra with the device. I didnt get the NC headphones or the dock or the cover, literally nothing. I literally feel that sony middle east is screwing us over.
I believe u should just go to the dealer who u brought the device from. If u have the warranty card u can just scan it and send it to Sony. Probably calling them would yield better results

Please, you are buying a phone not because it comes with stupid obligatory 'gifts' that you cannot refuse.
So many companies are doing this now because psychologically it works and you proved it. I always say how much gifts are worth. they say x, so i say give me without gifts and deduct x. But you know what they only reduce by 20%x or they refuse. So value of 'gifts' is a lie.
This was with Z1, with Z2 they put the gifts inside the box (!)
You are lucky.
I have W17 batch one also, and thinking about it, the only things I can actually say is that I experience the call quality thing (which I think can be fixed by a software) and also the gaps issue which has not really been big of a deal till now (Never dipped my phone in water however).
Camera is fine, back cover good, Flaps are great here... Sorry u go t unlucky mate... I'm actually in the same situation as u. Imported phone from regular "unprofessional retailer", no warranty. Till now, Z2 didn't launch in my country. So, yh!

i will let you know if the call quality issue is software related or not .. as mine is going back to the retailer for a "repair " i would imagine they will probably just pop a new mic in it , as im running .402 which at this moment in the UK is the latest software. i have also had a display issue with the screen jumping to different screens on its own,but its only done this the once.

So i didnt wanted to start a new thread. So ill post here . I also bought My new Xperia Z2 from Saudi Arabia. It was w20 model had screen gaps issue both on front and back . Bought it from Sony store and they said that it will not effect waterproofness of the device. Even then i was careful but after a month it was full of finger prints and i decided to wash it and unfortunately water went inside . All flaps were closed and i double checked it . When i took it to service center they said no warranty if water went inside and they will send it to Dubai please check back after 2 weeks.
I posted on Facebook as they may help me but this was their reply was we are sorry and nothing else
On twitter they are not even replying. and they just say contact service center and all i hear from them is excuses. there is not a single scrtach on my device. Unfortunately there is no refund or replacement system here. Really disappointed with Sony services. I saved money for 6 months for this device

Hey guys,
I just got back from my holidays, so I wanted to tell you the story about my two Xperia Z2's.
Before I went on holidays I had one of the devices in my pocket. I walked around through town with some friends. After about 30 minutes of walking around, I took the phone out of my pocket. I was shocked, because the screen was broken/cracked! My friends were shocked too, they couldn't believe their eyes.
My friend did a quick google-search and read about other Xperia Z's with similar problems and Sony replacing these screens.
So I called the support the next day, and they gave me the adress to send it in.
Now I went on holidays, when my brother sent me a message, that I got a letter. He opened it and told me what was inside: warranty refused!
They want about 350€ to have it repaired! I was shocked again!
I had the 2nd Xperia Z2 with me, too (girlfriend's device). It was laying in our holiday house (fully charged!), when we went out to the beach. When we came back she wanted to check for new messages, tried to switch it on, but: nada! Hardreset didn't work, pushing the "power-off"-button didn't work either! It won't get recognized via the PC companion neither...
Now I got back and called the Sony support again. First because of the broken display. They say it was my failure, they won't repair it!
They will never repair any broken displays. The say, that the display is so very well produced, that all cracks will be from external physical forces.
But don't you all have your phones in your pocket? I mean, that's the normal usage of a mobile phone, isn't it?
I'm very very disappointed about Sony and their support! This was my first and last Sony phone ever! I will also sell my other Sony devices and get different things instead.
Google for example repaired my Nexus 4 without a doubt - and the phone had some scratches here and there, so a *possible* damage of myself. But they didn't ask, they repaired it!
Yea I've realised how bad Sony service is, not just in phones but other products also, I won't be purchasing another Sony device, the ps4 being the only possible exception but then again I'm a proper gamer so I play the majority of games on pc
I had a similar situation - my previous Xperia Z was a tank (in a good way), put it in my pocket, sat on it (lightly), dropped it, everything, barely a scratch let alone a cracked screen after 18 months. After a couple of months with the Z2, I thought I was being way more delicate with it, and one day I took it out my pocket to find part of the screen wasn't touch sensitive anymore, and found a hairline crack running from around the bottom of the SIM/MicroUSB port cover, across to the bottom of the MicroSD cover.
Given it coincidentally ran from one weak spot on the frame structure across to another, I suspect it's a lot weaker here and allows more flex, so allowing the glass to fracture. Didn't even bother with the warranty, I knew what Sony would say - I took the hit with the £75 excess against my phone insurance
Well, when I had iPhone 4S, Apple replaced my iPhone 2 times even if was hardly scratched and dented. They don't repair iPhones, they replace them, which is a great thing. SONY and other companies should learn from Apple.
Same case f##k Sony
My z2 was water damaged and now they are f##cking with me asking me to pay 400$ for new z2 f##k them
I don't think any company including apple covers physical damages under warranty. Friend of mine also broke her S4 screen from keep it in her jeans pockets which she had to pay for repair. I also dropped my Z2 and broke the screen but luckily I was able to claim it on insurance and they sent me a refurbished device as a replacement. Water damages also fall into physical damages and won't cover under warranty.

Here in Africa, Samsung covers both Water Damage (Replacing Motherboard) and Screen replacement, any of the 2 or both of the same. TWICE!! Over a period of 2 years. This including Regular warranty you get, for 2 years also.
I don't think anyone really covers physical damage. Too many people have the story of, "I had it in my pocket and suddenly it cracked." though they're too ashamed to admit they simply dropped it.
Also, are you talking normal warranty, or Sony Care purchased warranty? I bought the Sony Care warranty and the guy told me I could smash my phone right in front of him, and he'd simply hand me a new one. I phone that's waterproof, I have my doubts. That was mainly the reason I purchased the Sony Care.

I am talking about the normal Sony warranty (which is called "Sony Care" over here - no joke).
I'm really disappointed, even though in a way I can understand them (a lot of people will claim the phone got broken by itself), but on the other than: I had two of the devices not working after just a few weeks of usage, so I'd expect a little bit more instinctive feel from Sony to say "OK, send us both your phones and we'll repair them".
Google replaced the cracked screen on my Nexus 4 without a hassle! I even had the new one here before I sent the broken on back!
They didn't even ask what has happened to the device, even though it HAD some signs of wear allready - not like the Sony which looked brand new!
Another funny story is, that on the UK the BBC reported about the problems on the Z-series and Sony offered all UK-customers to replace their broken screens - but only in the UK, because it was on TV there...
This happened to me too! I sent Sony a mail about repairing or replacing the phone and one Month later they said no because a 3rd party company had repaired the phone while i havent repaired the phone yet?! I repaired the phone and now it isnt waterproof anymore.
I sent my Z2 for repairs, as the camera lens was getting ugly only a few months after purchase.
It was sent Saturday and already came back the next Saturday (yesterday)
I got a new back case and even a new screen (I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the old screen)
That is great after sales, my compliments!
Got the same experience with Sony but then with my Playstation Portable in the times I used to own one. I got a new one in less than 3 days.
Had a really bad experience with the Sony after sales care. Sent a Z1 compact (I know it isn't the Z2 but go with me) what had gaps starting to appear between the side and back. Got the phone back, the repair notice had said the device had the case (which I phoned Sony up about, apparently that's the middle housing) replaced. I knew 100% that it hadn't been as there was a tiny scuff what was there when I sent it in. I have now got to send the device in again to get the middle housing replaced as the gaps are still there too.
I had a great and bad xperiance
My Xperia S was suffering random reboots and they sent it back to me after saying its not in warrenty AFTER I SAID REPAIR and not warrenty cause
(i missed some details here)
Good was that they sent me a new Z2 after my insurance did a terrible job repairing mine because my insurance wasnt planning on fixing their poor job nor replacing my phone.
