I own a Tablet, Netbook, Windows & Ubuntu Laptops, and Servers; but I've never owned a SmartPhone. Now that I may finally be upgrading my Verizon Plan, I need guidance.
Asking which is the best SmartPhone out there is very a very subjective and possibly contentious discussion, and if you have a hands-down favorite I want to hear about it, but more importantly I want to know which of the current VZW offerings to avoid. I figure that will be a better way to narrow the field and make my choice.

First off it depends on what you want to do with the phone. there is never one clear cut winner. if you are looking to root, mod, flash and such. you may be interested in a completely different phone then someone looking to maximize random features and such.
my vote. you can never go wrong with a nexus. easy to unlock. root. flash. have long-term support. always a great choice. i have one. love it.
Verizon carries a lot of motorola phones. they tend to have good build quality, and lots of factory features. but be warned some are a headache to work with, and moto can be a real pain about unlocking bootloaders and such. im not down-talking moto in anyway, i have an atrix too and love it. just letting you know.
again there is not "best phone" there is a new great phone out every day. look around. read some reviews. and remember if you really cant decide. nexus is the best of ALL worlds. just remember to do some reading up on what the limitations are before you buy.

That's a tough one because, as you mentioned, it's a very subjective issue with most people. You have a diverse set of other devices so my first question would have to deal with how badly do you need your smartphone to interact with them. What OS is on your tablet and netbook. If they're both Android I would recommend you stay with Verizon's Droid line. If they're Windows I would heavily recommend that you look at Windows Phone, namely the Trophy on Verizon. Don't get caught up in the whole "specs" conversation, go to a Verizon store and actually work the phone. Is it intuitive? Does it lag more than you would care for? How are the buttons, keyboards, etc. If this is your first smartphone I would definitely suggest you consider the "feel" of the phone and the menus, layout & screen. On another note, if you don't feel comfortable with any of their offerings, buy a good used one on ebay or Craigslist and put it on your contract. It'll be much less sour than to have to spend the next two years with a phone you hate to even look at. Hope this helps.
Once you have used the HTC EVO 3D camera you will never look at another phone again! when i take photos of my family and kids in 3d the photos just amaze me every time. when i switch to 2d and take photos the pictures are still very clear but just boring. i actually only take 3d photos now as you can edit the photo later and create a 2d copy from it. it also scored an impressive 2800 points in quadrant on a ics leak stock kernel!! im running myn without sense and it starts up only using 300mb of ram. there's 1gb ram!!!!
Well, these days I'd say the One X or Sammy Galaxy the 3rd ;o)
But the iPhone is not a dumbphone either, no? (I feel I'll get hell for this...)
I totally agree it's a complex question.
As mentioned before.try to summarize what you're going to do with it and which functions and feature are a must for you.

I don't think I need the phone to interact with my tablet or netbook.
My tablet is a rooted ViewSonic G-Tablet with Flashback ROM
My netbook is WinXP with Ubuntu bootable from usb-stick.
If you could please wait until the end of this summer. There are a lot of great devices that are going to be released.

This. There are great offerings coming from Sony, LG, and others before the end of the summer. You're definitely best off waiting to see what comes, and if nothing new catches your eye you'll still get an even better price on older devices once the new crop hits.
There are many good smartphones,
many others will suggest iphone 4s or 5, or SIII, but a good model in stores now is Sony Xperia S.

Well it looks like I'll be putting off my quest for the perfect phone for another time.
When I said I've never had a SmartPhone, that wasn't exactly true. Collecting dust in my draw for years, I've had a Mogul PPC-6800. Problem was I could never get Verizon to connect it without a data plan. They just relented and I now have it activated (with no data). Of course now that I'm using it, I'm too blind to read the damn screen.
back when I first got the Mogul, however many years ago that was, all I wanted was a PIM to replace my Palm Pilot and to be able to make Skype calls from wifi hot-spots.
Just wait for the galaxy g3 or just buy the galaxy nexus. My friend who never had a smartphone but he picked it up (gnexus) easy and now he using use all the features. If ur really really dumb, there is the iphone

a google phone like the galaxy nexus will give you the best android experience since it gets its updates directly from the carriers.
unfortunately verizon hasnt updated their cdma version of the galaxy nexus since it was launched in 2011.

I wanted to get people's opinions about the Note II.
Do you guys like the phone?
What is the state of the roms do they have full functionality of the s-pen?
Do the roms have the ability to hot spot?
How difficult is this to root (i have rooted all my devices from the original evo to the 3d, and nexus 7, and etc) does this fall into the average difficulty or does it get odd (jubunto wire trick...)
Is the moding community active/healthy?
I know these are a lot of questions, but but my evo 3d is dying and I might have to etf my line loose my phone number in order to replace this(unless I want to rebuild my system two times once when I get my evo repaired and once when I can upgrade in April..) if I am going to do that I want to make a smart decision on a phone that can last me the full two year term on my contract.
Anyone that can and does help thanks in advance.

There is only ONE thing which can go wrong with this phone; since Samsung is not releasing the soruce code for Exynos chipset, developers are having hard time for making daily suitable ROMs and if Samsung suddenly decides to cut updates off after -say- 1 year than Note 2 starts to age rapidly because of the lack of the up-to-date ROMs. But if we look at the SGS2's past it seems like that is not the case. So, nothing to worry about I guess. .
You will not regret buying this phone! When you get used to the bigger screen, it is just too awesome!
To answer one of your questions, it is super simple to root. I believe you can find the program in the dev section
Best android phone so far for me. Had a lot of high ends but note2 was and is the best. Rooting is easy, dont need big knowledge just need to learn to use google or xda search and read a bit. Note 2 community isnt so big now but later it will increase, same as was for other phones, just need more time. If you are not smartphones geek, note 2 could last you even more than 2 years, it is fast, good hardware, nice software additions. You wont regret ;D

you won't regret it. It'll take about 1 day to get use to the phone size after that every other phone will feel too small and like a toy.
I wouldn't even say, "wait for CES". This phone is so capable and powerful it'll still be better than 95% of anything coming at CES. And will easly last you 2 years.

thought i might put my opinion for you
I have had HTC's for years
TYTN, TYTNII, Touch HD, Desire then Sensation XE
I was used to Rooting HTC's and was flashing roms pretty often trying to get the best battery and performance and when i saw a mate with a Note II i wanted one but was a bit worried with the rooting etc.
Now after using the Toolkit and making Backups of EFS and Nand etc and then rooting , and now just yesterday flashing the latest XXDLL4 rom its turned out to be pretty easy.
As regards to the phone even though it has a bigger screen the battery life is amazing compared to any HTC i have had (a friend has a HTC One X and he struggles to get a day even with light usage ) but i use the note for everything even playing a fair amount of games and youtube vids etc and so far i have not run low on battery before the end of the day .
the speed is superb it just does not feel laggy at all and it's great to actually have 2gb ram as i no longer have to worry about memory management at all.
At first the big screen was weird but after a day or so i could not go back to anything smaller, you just get used to it and then realise that the biiger screen just gives you so much (although i use nova launcher to take advantage of the space)
the Spen is a good feature but not one that i have used a great deal but when i want to write notes its much easier to use the pen rather than my finger.
if i had one issue it is with the size as its difficult to use onehanded but i'm getting used to that.
In conclusion its by far the best Phone i have owned and with all of the HTC phones i have owned i have always looked at the next phones due for release but with this one i cant say that i would look to replace it for quite a while.

Thanks guys I'm thinking I will be upgrading tomorrow, and yes it will cost me my phone number as frigging sprint ended the buy out option,. But I'm thinking from what you guys said that it would be worth the switch as seeing as how adding a line is activation charge free till the seventh and seeing as how best buy price matches and this phone is going for 199 on both amazon and Frys I need to bite the bullet and jump on this train.
Or would you guys wave me off if the price tag included a new phone number?

Yes, you are going to love this phone.
Feel happy with the note 2, big screen, long battery time, fast cpu, 2gigs of ram(really really smooth), write instead of typing anymore, fully feeling its power using s note, floating things, its just the first smartphone that I feel it is really smart :victory:
I'm really close to buying the note 2. The only things stopping me is that the phone has been out for some months now, since September. And I'm a bit worried everyone is going to jump ship when the Sony Yuga (because of sources) and Galaxy S4 (because of hardware) come out.

Lol. The next big thing is always around the corner. You could be enjoying a note 2 right now and watch from the side lines comfortably for at least a year right now. I don't want to jump right in to A15 chip sets til they've matured a bit and see who utilizes it the best. I am pretty sure by September/October next year all the big phones will be out except perhaps the next nexus.

Hehe yea I know. It's just that the note 2 has been out for almost 4 months, and it's not like the price has dropped that much, here in denmark. And it seems that the exynos sources aren't coming out, which could add to the lifespan of the phone.
On the other hand, the note has a pen and a huge battery. Decisions, decisions.

Get it. Its that good as is. This coming from a guy that has had 3 nexii. You can freeze mist of the bloat, freeze Samsung's ****ty keyboard and put Google's 4.2 keyboard on and you're good to go.

Best phone ever
Currently I have an iPhone 3GS. It's served me well for the last year and 3/4 but its starting to show its age. Really I just want to know if I show go and buy a nexus 4 now or should I wait for something like the note 2 to come down in price? Any help in answer this question would be good.

I'd get the Nexus 4 now, it just depends how long you are willing to wait.
It depends on your budget. If you waited this long I don't see why you can't wait to see what phones are released later in the summer.

Well I've only really been looking this month. My main concern is the longevity of the nexus 4 as I read that is slowly being outdated without being a year old( but seeing as my phone is 3 it shouldn't really concern me). And as for my budget I'm looking for the best that is around $400-$500
If you're budget conscious and think you would enjoy the stock Android experience, I say go for it. If you take excellent care of your phone you can always sell it for a good amount on eBay or Craigslist and use that money to buy an upcoming phone should it appeal to you more.

I'm kinda new to the android market. I've got a transformer pad tf300. Could you explain what's the difference between that and the stock android experience. Is one better than the other. Or could you link me to somewhere I could find this information.

Idk where you read that but the Nexus 4 is about to receive 4.3 and will more than likely receive 5.0 later this year. The Nexus 4 has a lot of life left in it. Even after Google stops official support I'm sure the dev community will keep it going a while longer.

I've never used Transformer before but I believe it runs a slightly skinned version of Android? In any case you can look up YouTube videos of the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 to see what stock Android is like.
It's debated (of course) but most of the Android devotees enjoy "stock/vanilla" Android, which basically means it's Android as it comes from Google. OEMs like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and others all put their own custom skins on it. They often add features that stock Android doesn't have (some useful, some gimmicky) but the general consensus is that the skins bog down the phone and that loss in performance outweighs the extra bells and whistles you get.
Being that you're an iOS user, think of it in these terms--a Nexus device is the closest thing to an iPhone for Android. I mean this in the sense that when Google releases a new version of Android, you get it quickly after it's release. Just like you do when Apple pushes an iOS update. If you had say a Samsung Galaxy S4 and were anxious for Android 5.0, you'd have to wait at least a few months for Samsung to rework their Touchwiz UI over the new Android 5.0 and send out an update.
Given your budget, I would totally recommend the Nexus 4. You'll even have some extra cash to spend on some great accessories to keep it nice and safe--in case you do decide to sell it for something coming in the next year.

The only reasons to wait would be the release of the x phone or the next nexus. As we don't know if the x phone will be worth it, and the nexus 5 isn't even announced yet (don't forget the time it took to get the phone on stock..2 or 3 month after release), I'd say get the Nexus 4 and be happy.

But I would wait to the moto x announcement. And at least see if the tumours are true.
One of the biggest things about a nexus device is that is unlocked and off contract.
If the moto x is going to be available for 299 of contract and their is a device for your carrier of choice, that would also be a tempting deal. Decent specs and lte and a good price. I don't really believe that rumor but I would at least wait til find out. It's only a week away.

Moto x not worth it. It's a dual core phone and not even 1080p. The only thing better for the Moto x over the n4 is probably the camera. Spec wise, n4 is a lot faster. Plus it's a Nexus phone so therefore, it will have the latest updates. Moto x will still require carrier approval most likely.

Not worth it? You don't even know the price. Nor do you know the network the user is on. I assume if he is from the states he is on att. That alone could easily push somebody to a moto x phone on that network for lte over their crap 3g.
Specs don't mean crap. Benchmarks don't mean crap. In no usage case with the nexus 4 be a lot faster. In fact it the moto x should be faster in day to day use. It won't be slower.
The op didn't mention a thing about getting updates and doesn't even know what the stock experience is and so on.
If he wants to spend up to 500 on a phone he could also consider dropping that for a oppo. And that phone is old and still worth that price.

The problem with some android users is that they measure everything according to hardware, i call this the samsung mentality, "pump in the latest and greatest hardware, it will look good on paper, who cares about user experience" . No wonder the S4 has a lot of problems and as they call it over there (on their xda forums) "unoptimized software yet". Doesn't sound nice for a >650$ device.
I'm not a fan of Apple or any of it's products, but comparing the hardware/performance of the iphone5 vs galaxy S4 , as sad as it sounds, the my-little-pony-phone destroys that S4 in all fields even with inferior hardware.
So don't put the Moto X on ignore list just yet, i'm sure those 2 cores are going to be more than enough for one of the best android user experiences, and the lack of 1080p display is there for a reason. And finally don't forget that rumors say it's going to be an affordable phone targeting a wider crowd than, let's say, the nexus line.
An average non tech savvy individual doesn't care about which hardware the device rocks, they only care about the overall user experience, and the Moto X might provide just that.
I don't think the N4 will be outdated anytime soon for me at least, but I guess it depends on your needs. The biggest downside to N4 (for me) is the lack of external SD and LTE. If you feel these features are important to you in the near future, I would wait. If not, I would buy.
I bought one last wed. The Dev community is huge for the device and will be for along time. Pricing and hardware is awesome, not to mention I think its still one of the best looking phones. I say go for it.

I bought the N4 recently and I'd say wait for the moto x. It's just a week more and I think it's better looking than the nexus. Hardware specs are not that important. If you don't like it you can still get the nexus later.

As some of you guys know, OnePlus is having their pre-order event in les than a week. Granted, it's only going to last AN HOUR (LOL!) and it's pre-orders on a phone that's been out for several months. Anyways, as odd as this sounds, I feel like the OnePlus One is the Nexus 6's biggest competitor. Why? There are a few reasons that I have in mind:
- OPO has tried to compete with the Nexus 5 for the "cheap but amazing specs" department.
- OPO still offers great specs, that aren't too outdated, for a mind boggling price.
Some of the cons?
- OnePlus is still doing invites and their "pre-orders" only last for an hour on a specific day. Yeah..
- OnePlus still has horrible customer service and their phone (hardware and software) is riddled with problems and bugs.
- Did I mention you still can't buy the phone directly from OnePlus?
No need to go over the pros of the Nexus 6. Everyone here knows them at this point.
Which one are you guys leaning more towards? Why?

I bought a OPO immediately after hearing of the N6 price. I don't mind 6" screen and the band support is fantastic -- all in all it's a better phone, but is it worth $700 for 64GiB, twice the price of an OPO 64GiB?
For me, that's a no. I also really enjoy the look and feel of the OPO, and peeking at CM's code for it, they develop very, very actively - the phone so far has gotten more updates than the GN, N4, or N5 have, including new features like Partial Screen Update.
That said the OPO will definitely have more bugs than the N6, but I'm confident they will be resolved and I can deal with those that crop up.
If not, I'll sell it, hopefully at profit (an RMA device perhaps), and save for an N6.

It's possible to say that the OPO is the spiritual successor to the N5. High-end, but not the highest-end specs, at a very mainstream price, unlocked. With the new change of the direction of the Nexus program, I'm sure the OPO will gain more popularity than it would otherwise, especially for those were expecting an N6 in the vein of an N5. When the OPO was announced, I was greatly optimistic, being a serial phone jumper, and affordable unlocked devices were always welcomed.
Having said that, the OPO has been out for a while so their foibles are widely evident. Their marketing approach is often questionable, and it does appear that the OPO does suffer from a higher rate of faults than flagships do. Whether this is to be expected from the low price is another discussion altogether. Source: I had an OPO, which I used extensively for a month then returned for a refund for the infamous yellow tinge. During that time, apart from the yellowing, I found the device to be quite good, exceeding my expectations in just about every way. If it didn't have a OnePlus badge on the back, but a major OEM, I wouldn't have been surprised.
Would I still recommend it? Absolutely, especially for those who like to tweak, namely the same people who traditionally bought Nexuses. The battery life was incredible and a breath of fresh air from my N5. There were an abundance of ROMs and kernels available, and no issues with hardware compatibility. The 3rd-party community is bustling. You can see where my 'spiritual successor to the N5' comment comes from.
I'd go as far to say as saying that for most people, the OPO will do perfectly fine. They even share the same camera sensor. For many, the performance difference will be negligible, as will the pixel density. But the OPO is not readily accessible. The heavy carrier subsidies, the brand name, the larger scale production, the heavy marketing push are all reasons why the N6 will steamroll the OPO.
Which is a bit sad, because the OPO, even though it's a pricing anomaly in the market, an experiment on Oppo's part, may cease to exist at that price with the OnePlus Two. It does alot of things exceptionally well and for many, permanently changed expectations.
As for the N6, we'll have to wait and see what the reviews and early adopters say. I'm tentative because on paper it seems exceptional, but closer reading into the finer details, the company structure/takeover/manufacturing, the very early usage reports, point towards some glaring shortcomings being revealed.
No reason to get an opo unless you can't afford a Nexus 6. It's objectively inferior to the Nexus 6 in terms of specs and the rest is subjective your opinion vs mine.
I was never interested in the one+one. After years of crappy OEM Android phones, it Nexus or nothing for me from the N5 on.
You can't compare them. One is not out in the wild yet, both have a very awesome set of specs on paper, and when you see those specs, and the one plus's price, it would seem to be a no brainer.... Until you get the one plus and start using it. Its not daily driver ready.
Can't say whether the nexus 6 will be yet either, but I certainly have some high hopes for it

Why wouldn't the Nexus 6 be daily driver ready? I have never purchased a phone, especially a Nexus, that has stock software that wasn't daily driver ready. Honestly, I find it sad that you can say that about the One+.
I own one and luckily it's been perfect without the yellow banding screen or the touchscreen bug. It stayed on for 21 straight days once without a single issue but I got antzy and rebooted it out of habit.
But in the looks departments, it definitely does not scream premium like the M8, or Z series. And I wish they would have sold the 64gb in white!

I had the OPO and sold it after 3 days. The specs are nice and the battery life was phenomenal but that's about all it had going for it. The build quality was questionable at best, call quality was among the worst I've experienced in a long time, the screen is a crapshoot (good luck getting one without the yellow band), the software is incredibly buggy, it gets almost too hot to touch when gaming, their customer service is the absolute worst in the industry, and it just doesn't feel like the "flagship killer" they tout it to be. That last one is hard to explain because of how subjective it is, but when you hold it in your hand it doesn't feel like a flagship device, it feels like a cheap-o smartphone that is pretending to be high end. There's a lot more that goes into a smartphone than the SOC and RAM, and I imagine they cut as many corners as they could to get that price point. And I keep saying it and I'll say it again- the OPO is not worth a penny more than what they are charging for it. The N6 is going to be AMAZING, I mean nexus + motorola so there is no chance of it not being great, and it'll be worth every penny, regardless of all the babies whining about it being overpriced. There is no question in my mind- if you can afford it, the N6 is the clear winner here.

I wouldn't touch a OnePlus One for many reasons.
I have a OnePlus One and am extremely happy with it. The invite system was stupid but the phone is solid. I also have a Moto X 2013; great phone! I'll be getting a Nexus 6 as well. I think for the price the OPO is still the best phone to have IF you don't have to deal with any customer support and you want a off-contract phone.

And for all the people who can afford a Nexus 6 but feel it's not $350 better than a same-storage OPO?
There are just a lot of other things I'd rather spend $350 on, even if just more fun gadgets.
Considering I've had at least one hardware issue on each of my past nexus phones, I'd go with Nexus for the better customer support. Easy exchange. Too many horror stories on the oneplus one forums about claiming warranty issues.

Hello, i just wanted bring all of you together to read this thread. Ok so i know since you've been a Moto owner, you've heard or seen at least once insulting comment about your device or the Motorola company. For example, "Anything that Motorola makes sucks" "People only get them because they're cheap" "That phone is crappy". I know that those people are ignorant to other people's liking. I'm tired of hearing the same thing. A lot of people that own super expensive high end- flashy smartphones say things like that about devices like the Moto series. Well that really offends me, just because they might not be the most high-end smartphones or the most expensive smartphones doesn't mean they are worthless. We Moto owners take great pride in our device, we appreciate what we have and we value our smartphones.
If someone offered me a brand new Galaxy S6 and a brand new Moto X and said i could only pick one. I would pick the Moto X hands down without a doubt in my mind. Because I know, We know what matters in a smartphone. What is that? User experience and performance for the price. That's what a review comes down to at the end of the day. A company could make a super spec'd out smartphone but get the same review score as a phone a fraction of its cost. I know if i were to buy a $1000 smartphone it better be great in every aspect and i know if i bought a smartphone for half that price, i'm not expecting it to be perfect but i want to have a good performance. That's exactly what motorola does, it gives you a great performing phone for the price.
For example, the Moto G. It has a low price point but does everything you need it to do. If I want a super powerful gaming machine of a smartphone, I'm not going to buy the Moto G. Then give a bad review for not being able to do what i wanted it to. I'm gonna buy a smartphone with a powerful chipset. At the end of the day we Moto owners stand out. Other people don't seem to understand our taste in smartphones value. Im not saying if you own a super expensive phone you're a bad person or anything. I'm just saying you get what you pay for. All of you Moto owners, good job in picking a smartphone. It doesn't matter if you have a Moto E, a Moto G or a Moto X. We all are equal and unified. #Teammoto

Most people I talk to in my cell phone repair shop are ignorant to Motorola smartphones. They see my phone and ask what it is. Then they say that it looks nice.
Let those say whatever they want to because they are not aware of the fact that Motorola is the one who created mobile industry, rest are just parts of this industry. Real innovator is Motorola, rest just follow up whatever is left out by Motorola. Even today no other phone can beat a MotoX in terms of 'smartness', rest just feel dumb phones in front of a Moto X.
Motorola users don't need to frequently change their devices because they are more durable, can keep going for few generations of OS versions, come at cheaper price point. A 2-3 years Moto can easily keep going till the next Moto replaces it. You hardly see other brand's phones over 2 years old in anyone's hands. Others just fight needless specs war whereas specs is not everything. so called small battery and poor camera of my MotoX never miss the chance of surprising me by their performance, thats engineering, not just putting useless counts of cores or big spec battery or a high pixel density display which unnecessarily eats up the additional CPU power or battery.
Offcourse there are flaws in the Moto devices also but others are much more flawed. I am currently fighting a consumer court case against poor after sales service provided by Motorola when they took forever to repair a defective MotoE under warranty but that bad incident isn't enough to reduce my love and respect towards the Motorola brand.
Their strong comeback in the market after going completely dead is one more reason to buy their devices because it motivates to wake up and fight in the life, doesn't matter whatever trouble life throws on us. :good:

the sad thing is that we are on a new level of "low" on the Dev part of our community.. only a few roms and most of them 5.0.x, only one custom kernel and only for CM based roms.. id love to have a custom kernel on my stock but rooted to be able to play with synapse to tamper with settings to "beast-out" ok gaming and more out of battery for everyday use..
about the talk.. heh I've been experiencing these kind of things at work when they see me use the my phone.. waving my hand over it to check my notifications.. they are so jealous [emoji13]
Motorola is still a great manufacturer, designer, innovater of awesome phones! The X series are the living proofs of this! Many users hate the company now because motorola promised them faster updates and has been really slow and non transparent in terms of updates!
I think motorola has done a great job in terms of updates and phones in general! Leaving the S6 which had 5.0 out of the box, no other manufacturer has provided 5.1 update to any of their phones yet other than the nexus line! People would never understand that 5.0 to 5.0.2 were buggy! They just want an update so they could think less of it and start complaining about the next version of android not being given to them in time! I say such people should buy nexus phones to get timely updates and stop the ranting!
For other people who have a higher price higher spec phones dont know much about android. They just buy a high spec phone thinking its future proof and later understand that there are many more newer innovations at a lesser price. Such people always keep wasting money in those high specs! Motorola doesn't provide high specs. But it provides the perfect balance of specs and working and useful features in their phones which are more useful in daily use and thus it makes the phones a daily driver.
The only problem with their phone is the fragile screen. Its glass and glass tends to break when it takes a hit. But the cost to replace it is too much! In India we need to pay 75% of the purchase cost to get the screen replaced! That's what is keeping people from buying motorola!

I got my s3 when it was a flagship device and had a Samsung phone earlier. The primary reason I got the moto X was the price due to the cyber Monday sale. I saved up anticipating that the nexus 6 would be around the same price as the 5 but it turned out to be very expensive for me.
I had a few apprehensions before getting this device as I had never owned a moto device, but the X has exceeded my expectations! For the price, I don't think any other phone offers similar build quality and specs. Sure a bigger battery or a SD card slot would have been sweet but I feel that this is the perfect blend of stock plus nifty Moto features. I'm so used to active display now that I don't think I can actually use a device without it!
As far as updates are concerned, I'd rather have a fully functional 5.1 build rather than a messed up quickly released and buggy one. The delay has been a little annoying with multiple soak tests but if it results in a near bug free build then I'd rather wait!
All in all very satisfied with the phone.
