Hi,
I am on holiday in the Costa del Sol and the hotel has free wi-fi.
My Windows 7 laptop and my daughter's Windows 10 laptop, and my HTC One M8 phone can all see the hotel wi-fi network listed after a network scan, and can all connect after entering the password. The signal is strong, 6 bars.
However, my daughter's new Samsung Galaxy S6 cannot see the hotel wif-fi network after a scan at all, but does see various other distant wi-fi networks.
We have tried rebooting the S6, but no joy.
If it helps, using my laptop, it tells me the following about the connection:
Security Type: WPA2-Personal
Encryption Type: AES
Anyone any idea why the S6 does not see this network, while all our other devices can see it no problem?

Just noticed something strange, if VOLTE is turned on while connected to a WIFI AP then the S7 Edge presents the cellular IP to the WLAN instead of the IP allocated from the WIFI DHCP. This can be shown from the app Network Scanner, it shows the IP as (rment_data1) instead of (WLAN0) when VOLTE is turned off.
Normally I wouldn't notice this or be affected by it except I run Serviio DLNA server on my home network and if VOLTE is turned on then my Serviio server will not allow access to my S7 Edge since the IP presented is different to the one that I enabled access to.
Anyone have any ideas if this is a bug or if there is a workaround?
Galaxy S4 on CM13...if it matters
So here's my predicament. I've been using my S4 connected to Xfinity wifi as ethernet to my laptop then have my laptop set as a wifi hotspot for my other devices. I no longer have an Xfinity account but my old LG Leon is still active in their system for some reason, so I've changed the MAC on my S4 to meet the leons (Leon has broken screen) until they finally decide to drop it. Then I use MHotspot to allow my other devices to use the net. Convoluted way of doing things, but it works...sorta.
Problem is the data stream from MHotspot is super slow at 0.5-1.5mbps on Speedtest to my other devices (with only one connected to the hotspot) while the PC gets around 15mbps. However if I use the free hour directly from the PC WiFi and enable MHotspot to leech that connection, my other devices get full speed.
What gives? Any insight?

Wifi hotspot connection is not the same as a wired ethernet. In a wifi network, all devices will be sharing the available bandwidth. If your bandwidth for instance is 54mbps, it means all devices connected to your wifi network will be sharing this bandwidth. The more devices, the less bandwidth. And even if it is a mixed network of a/b/g/n, the network will perform at the pace of the slowest device. But in an ethernet network and if you're using a switch but not a hub, all devices will have the same bandwidth of the ethernet network, either 10mbps, 100mbps, 1000mbps depending on your switch capability and cabling used.
Hi there,
I have a 2 routers set up at home.
192.168.0.1 - Main AP, DHCP enabled, WiFi Channel 10
192.168.0.100 - Repeater, DHCP disabled, WiFi Channel 4
Both are connected by an Ethernet cable and have the same SSID Name, Password and Security.
Other devices (FireSticks, Chromecasts, Google Home, Moto X Play) can connect to either router wirelessly to the internet.
But my Samsung Galaxy S8 (and my wife's S7) sometimes has a problem when it initially connects to the repeater first. When it happens it connects but I get the exclamation mark (!) next to the WiFi symbol and not connection.
A workaround I've found is to turn off phone WiFi and get closest to the Main AP and turn back on so it connects to that one first.
I've tried setting Static IPs for the phones, but that still hasn't helped.
Once connected to the Main AP successfully the phone roams between it and the repeater as expected.
Any ideas anyone? I never had any issues with my old Moto X Play phone.
