Just noticed something strange, if VOLTE is turned on while connected to a WIFI AP then the S7 Edge presents the cellular IP to the WLAN instead of the IP allocated from the WIFI DHCP. This can be shown from the app Network Scanner, it shows the IP as (rment_data1) instead of (WLAN0) when VOLTE is turned off.
Normally I wouldn't notice this or be affected by it except I run Serviio DLNA server on my home network and if VOLTE is turned on then my Serviio server will not allow access to my S7 Edge since the IP presented is different to the one that I enabled access to.
Anyone have any ideas if this is a bug or if there is a workaround?

Hi,
I tried to connect my XDA to my works wireless network. I needed to get my MAC address added to the DHCP server so my IP address is assigned automatically in my department.
So, when I turn on my Wi-fi it finds the network and I select 'connects to Internet'. The connection now appears as 'available'. Next I tell it to connect and it displays 'connecting.....' then simply returns back to displaying 'available' again. No connection, no error message.
Does anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong? Surely if using DHCP I dont have to configure DNS etc?
Any advice would be great.
I had the same problem with my home wifi.
My wifi router was transmitting on wifi G only.
And when i changed it to B+G wifi transmission, and then it worked.
I then realised that the Exec has in fact a wifi B only...(i thought it had a G since windows mobile 5 is supporting G... but no...)
So, before I hard reset my device recently, I could simply fire up wifi while my constant-on "push email" was on and connected. Browsing on pIE was utilizing the wifi connection.
Now, I don't know what is different, but when I enable a wifi connection while the constant-on EDGE is established, the wi-fi connection is extremely flaky, i.e. long "Locating...", downloading half a page and then pausing, etc.
Is there anything that you could think of that I haven't possibly to correct this? In order to fully and stably use my wifi connection for browsing, it seems I first must disconnect from my provider's connection, whereas before, this was not necessary.... :?
OK, so think I've hit upon a bug either in WM5 or specific to the ROM.
There was a thread over at Modaco about changing your DNS servers to more responsive ones, cutting down on the "Locating..." times of your GPRS or EDGE account.
It appears that when I change my DNS servers of GPRS/EDGE-related account, it affects a subsequent wi-fi connection. When I remove the DNS servers, I am able to simply make a wi-fi connection and pIE browsing will defaut to using wi-fi.
However, if I have DNS servers entered under the EDGE account, I have to first disconnect the EDGE connection before I can successfully use pIE over a wi-fi connection....
This is strange, as the 2 accounts should be totally unrelated. Does anyone else see this behavior?
im also having the same problem, when i browse wifi, it stays on locating for a long time until the edge connection drops. its really annoying. can anyone help out on this? because obviously nobody helped when i brought out this same problem.
Well, as I mentioned you can simply disconnect your EDGE connection, but you shouldn't have to.
Did you make sure you have no "manual" DNS entries or specify an IP address in your GPRS/EDGE account? If so, remove them and change to "assign by server".
When you do that, you can use the wifi connection while your EDGE connection is maintained.
But, my question above relates to why this is even necessary if the 2 connections are entirely unrelated. It's as if manual IP entries are somehow carried over to the wi-fi connection.
ok heres the deal... i have a MDA flashed with the software from att for the 8125 everything works great except when i turn wifi on, i can connect to the network but cant ever get a page to work. does anyone have any suggestions????? please help
Is this happening on any network or your home network?
Check this... go to Settings - Connections - Network Cards. Make sure the WLAN Adapter is set to connect to the internet. Then tap the WLAN Adapter and make sure IP Address is set to Server Assigned then in Name Servers you don't have anything. If any of these is different, change it to the above.
Yeah. I have the same problem. I have wifi pci asus, the signal is good. I have Lan tru router and now bridged connection. I set the ip, mask and gateway which are in the status of the brudge. And the internet explorer and opera wont load pages.?!??! dns isnt set.
The network adapter is sdio wlan.., and the connection is my work network in connection > connections > advanced >select networks.
i use wm6, nbd 8.0
What could be the problem???
it is home network and all other wifi locations
i know there is a problem with secured networks, especially with wpa encryption. try to remove the encryption and see how it goes....
I have removed all encription. I tried preety much everithing and it doesnt work. All other free wifi networks work just fine, i can surf on internet.
what router do you have? i know that i could not connect to a 3com router with the wizard with any rom i tried.
try using a defined ip address and dns, meaning no dhcp. use a real dns addresses and not the default gateway...
Ok on our home wifi for added security I have disabled SSID broadcasting but have coded the connection parameters for our wifi in all our devices that use wifi. Every device we have can connect at will with SSID broadcasting disabled except for this new HTC Magic Rogers sent me a few days ago
When I go to the Magic's wireless settings page it says the following about our wifi...
"Not in range, remembered"
If I log in to my wireless AP and enable SSID broadcasting the Magic connects right away as you would expect but like I said I disable SSID broadcasting for security reasons and prefer to keep it that way.
Any ideas on a fix other than enabling SSID broadcasting?
.
Hiding your SSID does not provide any additional security, any hacker can find out your SSID in a matter of seconds. Just use WPA2 with a strong key and you will be fine. Two good articles about hiding SSID

I have hidden SSID with WPA2-PSK on #13 channel and have no problem connecting phone to my home net.
Hello, been a long time reader from my G1 to my G2 and now my nexus 4.
I am unfortunately not able to use my device on certain wifi networks which is a real bummer.
Being that i have a background in diagnosing computer problems in my real world life, i thought i would post my findings as i found some interesting things!
First i will say that the network i will use as the demonstration is secured with WPA2 PSK AES security and encryption.
I can connect to it and often find i have problems on the first connect to the network. By this i mean if i have made my wifi settings 'forget the network' and then try to connect again.
On the first time it seems to indefinitely hang, showing the message 'authenticating' on screen next to the network and if i long press on the network name and press modify, the dialog shows that i have a link speed of 1mbps.
I can usually get past this by turning wifi off and on and then reconnecting, at which point it will connect straight away and have a normal link speed. (in this example 72mbps).
After i am connected, i find that the following does not load:
-browsing webpages through chrome does not load
-the wifi icon turns grey
-play store cannot load anything
I find that i get assigned an ip address by dhcp correctly too with the right gateway and dns.
I decided to download a network tool to have a better look. I use fing personally.
I found it very interesting what i found, which no other threads about wifi issues mention.
Network discovery found every device on the local wifi network.
I was able to scan the services of my computer which is also on the network and it found everything, including a http server which i run which i could browse to.
In fact i could do everything through wifi with this device and most others.
Again it got interesting when I then took a look at my gateway, the router.
I had discovered its mac address which i can verify through my computer is correct which to my understanding, being that i can communicate through the wifi, means that i have the information available to send information to that physical device?
When trying to scan services, i find nothing, which is not true, at the very least it exposes a http server on port 80 which my computer can access.
When trying to ping i have 100% packet loss.
So at this point it is only the gateway i cannot access.
So i figure i could setup another computer which is connected to the network with a wire to share its connection through wifi onto that network and then i have a standin gateway?
I connected this computer through wifi to the network and pinged it succesfully with my phone. I then turn ICS on my wired adaptor to share to my wifi adaptor. I ensure that the wifi maintains an ip address in the right range and subnet.
I then try to ping that ip with the phone and it then gets 100% packet loss.
Could this be that when a device is configured to act as a gateway something changes about how it handles any packets sent to it that the nexus 4 is currently in compatible with?

I have found a bit of a workaround that i can use!
When i said i turned on the wifi and ICS i did the following:
-Turned on wifi.
-Connected to wifi network.
-Turned on ICS on my wired network to share to my wifi
-Observed that my ip changed from 192.168.10.x to 192.168.137.1 with no gateway or dns.
-I decided to change my ip on the wireless to 192.168.10.x and gateway to my router 192.168.10.10
-I then tested.
I ran through this again but slightly different:
-Turned on wifi.
-Connected to wifi network.
-Turned on ICS on my wired network to share to my wifi
-Observed that my ip changed from 192.168.10.x to 192.168.137.1 with no gateway or dns.
-I decided to change my ip on the phone to 192.168.137.5 with gateway and dns as 192.168.137.1
-I then tested. And it works!
I know this doesnt fix the wifi issue itself, but for me, this makes a big difference as i can now use wifi at work where we also have poor mobile network coverage.
Edit:
Additionally i previously tried to setup this same computer to host a wifi network to share the connection using 'netsh' and creating a 'hostednetwork' but i found i was in the same situation where i still couldnt get the internet.
