Wireless Modem speed

I have set up my XDA with the XDA-developers SE ROM v1.1, and setup the wireless modem exactly as per the O2 instructions - and it works - I can surf and collect e-mail on my laptop via the xda!
But it's quite slow, and WinXP reports the connection as 9.6kbps. It seems a bit faster than that, and I obviously do have a GPRS connection, but is there anything I can do to speed it up?
Many thanks in advance

Contact O2 as it should be a network issue. You must also bear in mind that many networks set priority for voice over data (for obvious reasons), and therefore you may find ridiculous speeds on GPRS during Peak Hour. Check out the speeds at night, for example, and try finding a bandwidth meter on the net. There's one that I used (I forget which one, exactly) and I've clocked my XDA at 39 kbps on one partcular occassion. However, all these vary from network to network and I find the average speeds available on my network (where GPRS is still in implementation stage) to be round about 18 - 20 kbps.
Cheers

Hi,
The speed reported by XP is the interface speed. I use the Infrared port and it shows 9.6 as well.
This is not the GPRS Speed, but the IR speed.

Silver
I am seeing exactly the same results here in the US with T-Mobile. It is obviously much slower than using GPRS on the device itself. It appears as if either it is not bonding multiple channels, or somehow the IR/virtual com has restricted itself to 9600.

[Q] App to measure net traffic of Hotspot WIFI

Hi,
I am using my N7 most of the time with my Galaxy S2 as a mobile hotspot. On The S2 I have a data limit of 3 GB per months. On the S2 I use 3G Watchdog to measure the traffic. This is great to see when I will get over my limit and it also shows me how much of this traffic was used by WIFI Tethering (which unfortunately this is much, much more than I thought). But of course it doesn't show me which apps on the tethered device used the traffic and to make things even more complicated, I also use my Transformer Prime sometimes on this Hotspot, which makes the situation even more intransparent
So, I am searching for an app to install on my N7 and on my TF201 which measures the net traffic and especially shows which apps cause the most traffic, BUT ONLY when the tablet is using the S2 Hotspot. Has anyone seen such an app ?
Thanks,
Hermann
The system one tracks All the WiFi usage, and since Android can't tell whether you're using a hotspot or mobile hotspot, I doubt if there's an app as such.
Also this is probably more attention grabbing in the Zappa and themes section of the n7 I think

[Q] download cause slow internet

evertytime i want to download at cybercafe the cybercafe men tell me not to download bcoz it will slow the internet connection, but i want to make rom by downloading cwygin n dsixda kitchen.just for asking u guys , that any some other ways to download file without causing a slow internet connection??
well it depends how much bandwidth you have
if you have fibre optic broadband for example and you download a file at say 800kb/s you are not going to stop someone else from browsing
but if 100 people all download a file at 800kb/s on the same connection then you will notice a slow down
if 1000 people all download a file at 800kb/s on the same connection it would most likely grind to a hault
so its all a matter of bandwidth - you can never stop it a slow down but you can get make it not noticeable by having more bandwidth and the only way that will happen is if you get a faster connection or changing your connection type ie from copper cables to fibre optics
the bandwidth only has 384kpbs , is this maybe getting slow internet browsing??

well if loads of people are on it at the same time then yes - I would expect an internet cafe to have at least at 16mb connection
we can get up to 152mb connections here
(obviously download speeds wont be 152mb/s thats just the connection speed)
actually my phone internet is faster that your cafe!
My phones data connection is coming in at just over 2mb/s and I know it can go faster at night

well if it has an 8Mbps connection there should be no reason why you cant download a file with some degree of speed unless they have impossed a local speed restriction policy on their network

broadband and wireless can be the same thing (in peoples descriptions)
broadband is internet type and it is transmitted either through eithernet cable or wireless
types of internet can be
adsl dialup/isdn connection through copper cables (telephone line) (obsolete)
adsl broadband through copper cables (telephone line)
fibre optic broadband (very fast and the best speeds)
satellite (used in rural places with no access to phone lines)
mobile data like 3g/4g
I was talking about my phones data connection (3g) and I use it to create a wifi hotspot - Since I have no data limits I can download what I like

when you turn on wifi apps could start up and transmit data - check what apps are causing battery drain
ok i will check for it , i noticed that there is not many running process but battry stat drain. it's true use smartassV2 n sio can reduce battery drain??
