[Q] download cause slow internet - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

evertytime i want to download at cybercafe the cybercafe men tell me not to download bcoz it will slow the internet connection, but i want to make rom by downloading cwygin n dsixda kitchen.just for asking u guys , that any some other ways to download file without causing a slow internet connection??

well it depends how much bandwidth you have
if you have fibre optic broadband for example and you download a file at say 800kb/s you are not going to stop someone else from browsing
but if 100 people all download a file at 800kb/s on the same connection then you will notice a slow down
if 1000 people all download a file at 800kb/s on the same connection it would most likely grind to a hault
so its all a matter of bandwidth - you can never stop it a slow down but you can get make it not noticeable by having more bandwidth and the only way that will happen is if you get a faster connection or changing your connection type ie from copper cables to fibre optics

the bandwidth only has 384kpbs , is this maybe getting slow internet browsing??

well if loads of people are on it at the same time then yes - I would expect an internet cafe to have at least at 16mb connection
we can get up to 152mb connections here
(obviously download speeds wont be 152mb/s thats just the connection speed)
actually my phone internet is faster that your cafe!
My phones data connection is coming in at just over 2mb/s and I know it can go faster at night

well if it has an 8Mbps connection there should be no reason why you cant download a file with some degree of speed unless they have impossed a local speed restriction policy on their network

broadband and wireless can be the same thing (in peoples descriptions)
broadband is internet type and it is transmitted either through eithernet cable or wireless
types of internet can be
adsl dialup/isdn connection through copper cables (telephone line) (obsolete)
adsl broadband through copper cables (telephone line)
fibre optic broadband (very fast and the best speeds)
satellite (used in rural places with no access to phone lines)
mobile data like 3g/4g
I was talking about my phones data connection (3g) and I use it to create a wifi hotspot - Since I have no data limits I can download what I like

Free Mobile Broadband [For your Laptop]

Ever wanted to have a fast internet connection that will let you surf the web, play online games (Like World Of Warcraft), without being limited by a Ethernet cable, or wifi range? Well, read on...
What you'll need:
- Sprint With Power Vision Access (15.00 a month)
- A Windows Mobile phone
- A laptop
- A mini-usb to usb connector
First, boot your phone up, and disconnect all usb cables from the phone. Connect to the internet Via IE, so a live webpage is opened. Click Start > Programs > Internet Sharing. Remember that the USB cable is not connected to the phone at this time. Once in internet sharing, make sure to choose "Sprint PCS" from the Network Connection option. Click "Connect". Your status should read "Connected" or "Check USB connection". At this point, you can connect the USB, and windows will automatically load the drivers, and connect. Once your phone reads "Connected", you can open up your favorite browser, or anything else that may require an internet connection, and go at it. You've just skipped out on the $39 monthly tethering charge.
I've actually done this with my Mogul, and got speeds between 1100-1300kb/s down and about 300kb/s up.
Good Luck!
You know they can tell if you tether still... so if you use a lot of data they could catch you

This is a feature built in WM, however, don't get it confused. If you're running the standard Sprint ROM, they can detect you tethering, so don't be surprised one day to get a large bill.
But, agreed this is a easy way to connect, but you may want to look at some custom roms, or research other options if you need to use this.
Oh, btw those speeds must be a typo. I'm using Sprint and currently connected using Internet Sharing and while I might occasionally get 1MB download speeds, I average around 400Kbps - 800 Kbps in Hampton Roads, VA area
Where are you located?
Dude, this is a feature of the phone. Like, it's in the manual. We know.

I wish we have Sprint.
There are some unlimited broadband offer but all sucks (even we can't get real 3G / HSDPA speed right here)
i'm waiting for my touch and just joined sprint... how many months have you been tethering?
I've been tethering for about a year and a half now.
I live in the seattle area, and i've gotten 2.4mb/s once.
wait is this thread dated 2006 and for some reason just showing as new???????
HAVE u TrieD
in 2006 when Vodafone was lanuched in S.A they had a free Unlimited Internet However it only worked through proxy and was only limited to the phone when tryin to tether it brought a blank page. So When you change UA 0n IE or FireFox to Like Nokia6680/2.0 It w0rkeD so change maybe changing UA of the browser SPrinT May n0t b able to detect if ur tethering you could also try www.your-freedom.net it worked when vodafone live was ristricted to Phone Browser UA
Not restricted anymore, by the way.
...I hit 3mb/s today.
what a lucky guy. 3mb wow!

You also have in the "Tools" folder in the Start menu something called "Internet Sharing", from which you can use either USB cable or Bluetooth PAN to share the connection. Also if you connect the phone with USB, you will get the option on the screen to share the connection.

You'll only get a couple of megabits this way because of the limitations of how USB actually works (and some bugs in internet connection sharing).
The wifi router way is the best route because it allows for true full duplex commications on the wifi side and you'll also get the maxium transfer speed from the GSM side. So you'll be talking about 7-8 mbps down and about 2mbps up (up load can be restricted by your provider though)
Many thanks folks ill give it a go

I've never noticed it with the USB cable. But yes, bluetooth is a bottleneck. For some reason my laptop refuses to connect to the wifi app provided with my HD2, so haven't tried it.
hi,
for me I prefer plug usb cable and sharing conexion, by this way I can surf and charge my batt by the same way.
I've made test , in 3G+ zone I've got :
ping : 100-150 ms
down : ~3000 kbps
up : 800 kbps
Testing it here but It's taking forever and a day to general.t-mobile.uk,using WI-FI Router

WiFi Problems

[Q] Do you have speed problems with Wifi? (N-band)
I have wifi N router and set to N only. I have two laptop both wifi N capable. When I transfer file usung file sharing betwen two laptop I m getting speed abt 3Mb/s but when i transfer file between laptop and SGS I only get speed of 300 Kb/s. SGS support wifi N standerd then why it so. Well I use ES file explorer to access file in my laptop over Wi- Fi.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It's a mobile device, they have lower throughput and probably only 1 antenna (most 802.11n devices have 3). There are a lot of factors, but basically, all that's important is that it supports the 802.11n protocol. Optimisation may lead to faster speed boosts over time though.
Network traffic might also be set to a low priority to help ensure the phone runs reliably for other tasks, but I have no idea why exactly it's slower exactly.
I get 1.5mbs from my nas and wireless n network
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i get 19.5mb downlaoding speed
and 4.3mb uplaoding speed
on my wi-fi
my connection 500/500mb
I m talking abt internet speed. I m asking abt file transfer speed betn my SGS and laptop
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
87 Mbps according to mine
i'll grab a screen shot when i get back home
87 seems too much I only get 25 while copy file on hard drive it self
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
that's actually low for me, but is better than nothing
my PC down in the cine room gets around 218+ Mbps
I get about 80Mbps laptop <-> network (802.11n 5Ghz), and about 5Mbps SGS <-> network (802.11n 2.4Ghz). Not horrible, but certainly not wonderful. I wish it had a 5Ghz radio too, so I could turn off my 2.4Ghz stuff :-/
[Q] Do you have problems with Wifi? (N-band)
Since my phone is on it's way to the repaircenter I would like to ask you all this Question.
I have problems with my wifi connection. The strange thing is, is that my router is brandnew! b+g+N!!!
The weird part is that it has only problems with the N-band
SO I hooked up another wireless router only with the b+g band and BAM it works.
But that's just messed up to have 2 wireless routers one for laptops and one just for my mobile phone...
So can u try the same thing and give me your comments about this issue?
there was already a topic about this
however one topic we did not touch base on, on the other topic was about the B+G bands
if you read the documentations you'll noticed that for N to work at full speed, it must only listen to N no B no G
when you use Mix mode, N doesn't work well
to use N, you need 2 bands, B + G only needs 1 band
if you enable all 3 B+G+N you only get 1 band for all, so making the N useless
the trick is to update all your old hardware that still runs G or B to N
then you can use pure N, and gain full speed
the SGS phone can run up to 87 Mbps on N
meanwhile computers can go up to 280+ Mbps

[Q] manual wifi fix app?
Hey, like many Android users I'm often having problems with Wifi not connecting to APs. While that can be fixed by restarting Android that takes a lot of time and is more than annoying. There are some apps to solve this issue, they "fix" wifi whenever the screen is turned on (e.g. http://www.appbrain.com/app/wifi-fixer/org.wahtod.wififixer http://www.appbrain.com/app/blade-wifi-fix/com.bladewififix).
That however I don't like either as due to the fixing taking place always wifi connection becoming established takes quite a lot of time. So my question: Is there an app that fixes the wifi connection but does so only manually, e.g. by clicking a widget button?
[Q] Can't connect to Wifi?
I select my Wifi network, I enter in the password, it says connecting, authenticating, connected, remembered, then it says disconnecting, searching, authenticating, and it repeats. The H at the top never disappears, no Wifi icon ever appears, what is the issue exactly?
And yes, I am connecting to a Wireless-G signal.
Don't worry I can't connect to your home network either so it's not a problem with your phone
I suggest you delete the password from the router and try and connect .
If you connect setup again with the password .

I had the same problem and i manage to fixit with "WIFI STATIC". It's free on Market. Access your router config and add your Galaxy Mac adress, then fill the parameters in WiFi Static. It Works! Never had problems again! Oh, i think you have to put your's computer(s) mac adress too in the router.
is there really no such app? :-(

Is there a way to use my home internet in my phone so that i can use when im away

Is there a way to use my home internet to my phone when im away from home. I know its kinda impossible but just curious to know if anyone found a way to do that.
If you have wifi then you can use it withn some meters like 100m but that too depends on your wifi range. But if you are thinking something like using home's wifi from any place dat is too far then it is impossible
Thought so... maybe someone could come up with that soon in near future

You mean so that you're not using mobile data at all?
This will always be impossible; unless of course you could extend WiFi range to miles and beyond. This is also not likely to happen, consumer devices such as routers and access points have strict limits on broadcast power. Any more than that, and you need to have a license. Also, considering the fact that the WiFi band is already congested at low power levels (we're talking about milliwatts), I don't think your neighbours would appreciate having a several kilowatt radio transmitter blocking their wireless signal.
Needless to say, your phone would also need a huge transmitter in order for two-way communication with the base station to work. This is not going to happen on battery power.
Now, if you're trying to access your home internet connection, you can use a Virtual Private Network or SSH tunnelling. But there's no way you're going to avoid having to use mobile data.

Google Chrome for Android has a feature called "Reduce Data Usage" which uses Google's servers to compress data and thus reduce loading times and data usage.
You can find this feature by going to Chrome settings -> Bandwidth Management -> "Reduce Data Usage"
For me, it reduced data usage by 32%. As the amount of data transferred is proportional to wait times, less data = faster.

No. You can't multiplex/bridge a WiFi connection and mobile data connection easily. And even if you could, it's unlikely that you would notice an increase in speed. I'm afraid the only solution for that is to get a better device or better network.

Yes, this might speed up downloads slightly but it doesn't help you browse the web any faster. Even if you could pull a couple extra megabits/sec, the latency wouldn't be divisible in two.

Is there any app which could throttle the WiFi speed?

I am facing this sort of annoying thing lately, you see that I connect my phone to my home's WiFi router, which is basically a wired broadband connection of mere 4 mbps. Now the thing is when I am downloading something on my phone (connected to WiFi) all the data is consumed by the phone and the connection to my PC (which is connected with the same broadband obviously) gets no connection at all. Sometimes I stay in my room and do stuffs on phone and parents come and keep asking me why there's no connection! So I was thinking, that is there any app or something by which I can set a speed limit for WiFi connection on my Note?
Thanks in advance.
