So this has happened to me several times. After clean flashing, the phone still seems to know my account email (not password). This happens whether I am flashing stock or custom ROMs. Is this something I should be concerned about? If I ever sell the phone, I don't want the recipient to know my google account email. Is google saving previous account information somewhere? If there is a thread/article about this, please let me know.
EDIT: To clarify, this is on the setup screen for any new ROM. Also, this has only happened on my Nexus 6P. Neither of my previous phones (Nexus 5, HTC One M8) did this.

This is due to a new feature called Factory Reset Protection (FRP) introduced in Androidb5.1. Here is one posting sbout the festure. It is a feature on all Nexus devices starting with the Nexus 6.

Okay, thanks. That makes sense. Is there any way to fully erase all previous account data? (for ebay, etc.)

Factory reset from within the os settings on the phone. NOT through recovery.
@harry3ddy Please use the "Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section, for asking questions.

The funny thing is he already has a post in the main thread to the tune of 'i love you guys' or something like that, where 2 pages prior to his statement the exact same thing he asked is being discussed.

No offense, but why do you want so much private info, such as my full name, my birthday, etc? Make that stuff 100% optional.

Hey I completely understand
Birthday is for my host to confirm you are old enough to use the site
Full Name- Doesn't really matter if you use your full name you could use a username.
It's not asking for so much private info such as your address or social security number

Just one small point - while registering, we are required to answer the question "Which company does Android belong to".. I entered "it's open source software", and I was told it's the wrong software. I was able to proceed when I entered "google".
I think you should allow the answers "open source" or at least "open handset alliance" rather than just "google". Just a nitpick, though

But... Google is the company that literally owns Android. They started the concept, and now are at Android 2.2 Froyo. The answer 'Google' is perfect. Open handset is just a group that companies have joined in creating the best user experience for smartphones, and that do that with the Android platform.

Agreed that Google is a major and the most visible player in the Android arena. However, technically, since Android is an open source project, other companies can (and do?) submit code. Also, if someone refers to Wikipedia entry for Android, the company is listed as OHA. I'd suggest that the answer OHA be allowed, in addition to Google. Anyway, don't mean to hijack the thread -- it's a small issue!
kobecamp2009, if all you're trying to do is avoid automated signups, why not ask questions like other sites do -- "what is 2+2" and so on

Hi guys. I rooted my Kindle Fire on FW 6.2.1 the other day and I want to unroot it. I figured performing a "reset to factory defaults" would be fine, but I'm still unable to view amazon prime instant videos.
Can someone please help me? I honestly didn't go reading through all the troubleshooting threads because I have already performed the reset. If I can unroot following those guides, let me know.
Thanks.
If you goal is to play Amazon Prime Video.. you don't need to unroot.
You just need to make it so that the Amazon player doesn't see root.
You can do that by:
o Installing OTA Root Keeper
o Telling it to "temp unroot"
o Force closing the Amazon Video Player (Setup -> Applications -> find amazon player -> Force close)
o then restarting the player and watch whatever videos you want..
When you want root again for anything that needs root... just go to OTA root keeper and tell it to Re-Root... and play your heart away...
You don't need to completely unroot to do this... so you can have the best of both worlds.
Yawn

Also. http://www.giyf.com/
I don't know if you guys are illiterate or something, but I said that I reset the Kindle to Original Factory Defaults. I can't just download something from the Android Marketplace because it's not there...
Do I have to re-root it, then do this temporary unroot?
And to the one who thinks I don't know what Google is: Go back to school and read a book. After you learn that, read my op.

If you would read the link at the top of the results it explains what you want.
You just want someone to hold your hand instead of actually reading.

99.9 % Of problems dealing with rooting and your problem can be found using google and about 5-10 minutes of reading.
I don't want a temporary unroot, I want a permanent, complete unroot and have the system reset to factory settings.
Once again, the device has been "Reset to Factory Defaults" under the Settings on the device.
I lost my Android Marketplace app as well with everything else. It seems like it's been reset but I still can't watch Prime videos.
Anyone?

Please never modify another Android device or if you do go on Craigslist and hire someone to do it for you.
If you understood that Resetting to factory defaults removes the "su" and "superuser.apk" files from the device, you'd realize how much of an ass you've made yourself.
Seriously, take the time to read posts. Being able to comprehend them would help too. This is something Google won't help you with.

Yes, that is all it does but factory reset does not completely remove root that is why you can not watch Amazon video you need to Un root.
This is not rocket science I have been doing this a long time the point I am trying to make to you is "Search" and you can solve these minor problems on your own.
lol.

Come on man type out a complete list of the steps for him to un root his kindle that way he won't have to read the guides that are already out there.
I refuse sir
I like how he tries to call everyone posting idiots and their making asses of themselves, when he didn't even know that a factory reset just deletes all user data and does nothing to root, and then when people gave him links, he just got mad because he ****ed up in the first place. Google is your friend, if your unsure of an option just Google it dammit!
Reason we say you don't know what Google is, is because your asking a question thats been asked many times, but you'd rather make a new thread about it, and have people repeat themselves, it gets annoying. Books are for old people, we all have kindles why the hell would we go get a book!? Go learn to internet n00b.
The funny thing is when you post a new thread it pops up with similar threads and asks you to check them before posting to solve your issue.
But everyone thinks their problem is different.

i have just registered to this forum to thank u for ur politeness and to say to that ignorant kid to respect those who are obviously far superior,
To answer your question, yes, you will need to reroot to give it the temporary root. If you used the kindle fire utility it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
God damn, I thought the G2x forum was full of a bunch of pricks, but clearly this one takes it. The point of this forum is to share insights and offer advice to fellow users with common interests... simply put, no need to be a ****ing prick, the smarter thing to do is search the xda forum not refer him to Google

When you do a Google search for almost anything related to Android modification and rooting XDA results are usually the first results.
Good to see a month later this forum is still full of threads about people bricking and rooting their fires.

There was a ROM here that was posted about 1-2 weeks back. It sounded great but I don't remember what it was called. A user here posted his story about asking the dev if he could port it over to the s4 and did so. I however, cannot for the life of me find that thread again. Although I still cannot put a custom recovery on my device, I would like to at least keep up with the news on this particular rom. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or can direct me to the ROM itself, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks =)

Boot to TWRP.
Under mounts make sure that the internal storage is mounted
Got to file manager in recovery.
Now, go to root folder /data/system
If the unlock was pattern lock delete gesture.key
If it was password or pin delete password.key
This is what worked for me on note 3 Lolli and marshmallow. If the lock your trying to bypass was a pattern, lock once booted, if pattern request still appears enter any pattern the from settings set a new one or just change to swipe.

Serious queston, no malice intended - what sort of job do you have that involves hacking Android security?
I'm genuinely curious.
If your job involves high level hacking, I can't see any reason you'd be asking for help on a public forum. You should have a skillset way above any advice you could get from here.
If it's merely an interest, I can't see how you're ethically or legally legit.

While asking how to bypass lockscreen security is a legitimate question, and threads like this are generally allowed. I feel OP may have malicious intent. Do not use XDA for illegal activities.
