Hi guys. I rooted my Kindle Fire on FW 6.2.1 the other day and I want to unroot it. I figured performing a "reset to factory defaults" would be fine, but I'm still unable to view amazon prime instant videos.
Can someone please help me? I honestly didn't go reading through all the troubleshooting threads because I have already performed the reset. If I can unroot following those guides, let me know.
Thanks.
If you goal is to play Amazon Prime Video.. you don't need to unroot.
You just need to make it so that the Amazon player doesn't see root.
You can do that by:
o Installing OTA Root Keeper
o Telling it to "temp unroot"
o Force closing the Amazon Video Player (Setup -> Applications -> find amazon player -> Force close)
o then restarting the player and watch whatever videos you want..
When you want root again for anything that needs root... just go to OTA root keeper and tell it to Re-Root... and play your heart away...
You don't need to completely unroot to do this... so you can have the best of both worlds.
Yawn

I don't know if you guys are illiterate or something, but I said that I reset the Kindle to Original Factory Defaults. I can't just download something from the Android Marketplace because it's not there...
Do I have to re-root it, then do this temporary unroot?
And to the one who thinks I don't know what Google is: Go back to school and read a book. After you learn that, read my op.

If you would read the link at the top of the results it explains what you want.
You just want someone to hold your hand instead of actually reading.

99.9 % Of problems dealing with rooting and your problem can be found using google and about 5-10 minutes of reading.
I don't want a temporary unroot, I want a permanent, complete unroot and have the system reset to factory settings.
Once again, the device has been "Reset to Factory Defaults" under the Settings on the device.
I lost my Android Marketplace app as well with everything else. It seems like it's been reset but I still can't watch Prime videos.
Anyone?

Please never modify another Android device or if you do go on Craigslist and hire someone to do it for you.
If you understood that Resetting to factory defaults removes the "su" and "superuser.apk" files from the device, you'd realize how much of an ass you've made yourself.
Seriously, take the time to read posts. Being able to comprehend them would help too. This is something Google won't help you with.

Yes, that is all it does but factory reset does not completely remove root that is why you can not watch Amazon video you need to Un root.
This is not rocket science I have been doing this a long time the point I am trying to make to you is "Search" and you can solve these minor problems on your own.
lol.

Come on man type out a complete list of the steps for him to un root his kindle that way he won't have to read the guides that are already out there.
I refuse sir
I like how he tries to call everyone posting idiots and their making asses of themselves, when he didn't even know that a factory reset just deletes all user data and does nothing to root, and then when people gave him links, he just got mad because he ****ed up in the first place. Google is your friend, if your unsure of an option just Google it dammit!
Reason we say you don't know what Google is, is because your asking a question thats been asked many times, but you'd rather make a new thread about it, and have people repeat themselves, it gets annoying. Books are for old people, we all have kindles why the hell would we go get a book!? Go learn to internet n00b.
The funny thing is when you post a new thread it pops up with similar threads and asks you to check them before posting to solve your issue.
But everyone thinks their problem is different.

i have just registered to this forum to thank u for ur politeness and to say to that ignorant kid to respect those who are obviously far superior,
To answer your question, yes, you will need to reroot to give it the temporary root. If you used the kindle fire utility it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
God damn, I thought the G2x forum was full of a bunch of pricks, but clearly this one takes it. The point of this forum is to share insights and offer advice to fellow users with common interests... simply put, no need to be a ****ing prick, the smarter thing to do is search the xda forum not refer him to Google

When you do a Google search for almost anything related to Android modification and rooting XDA results are usually the first results.
Good to see a month later this forum is still full of threads about people bricking and rooting their fires.
Reminded me why I don't bother coming over here.

Hi guy,
want to know if it possible to root my xperia play without unlocking the bootloader and my phone detail is as below.
Android - 2.3.3
Model: R800i
Thanks
It's completely possible if you use the flashtool OTA method. There are multiple threads about it. It doesn't require unlocking the bootloader.
Sent from my R800
Basically you have to use flashtool to revert back to 2.3.2, run gingerbreak or whatever tool to to get root access, and then do OTA to go back to 2.3.3. It only works with ota, if you use our pc companion you will loose root again

is there a risk that i might brick my phone using flashtool to revert back to 2.3.2? also will all my file in the phone or sd card will be wiped out completely after flash back to 2.3.2?
thanks

please use the search button. You're not the first one asking this
yes you can
I really don't understand why people don't just answer questions for people on forums like these. Obviously he should've used the search, but that doesn't make his question invalid. You can save him some time and confusion by answering his question directly, I'm sure it would've taken just as much time as it would to type out "USE THE SEARCH."

Sure I can, but after doing it for so many peoples that creates new threads with the same question, you lose your patience.
Hahah I have been biting my lips in saying the same
There's a reason I said "there are multiple threads about this"
This question keeps getting asked over and over by people who don't bother looking at other threads or using google.
One or two of them actually contain instructions written by me personally.
It gets annoying when people expect you to write a whole guide for them, when they were too damn lazy to look beforehand.

I agree but you don't have to read them or respond to them if they get on your nerves? If you must then simply post a link to the forum rules or search results.
Searching forums can be time consuming and a pain as the information required is usually lost in a mass of irrelevant threads or posts like these.
Instead of flaming the noobs the posts should be removed or helpful answers provided so when these threads also show in the search results it does not waste peoples time.
Remember just because you don't want to take the time repeating yourself or replying to these posts don't mean other members with knowledge and time on their hands feel the same.

you shouldnt root until you learn about it first. otherwise youll eventually end up starting a how do i unbrick my tablet thread. seriously, spend a few minutes searching and reading first. find out how to perform basic maintenance first, and some of the basic processes. then go through the process of rooting your tablet.
Search is your friend, if you familiar with android you can try this toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475 but if you don't know what are you doing, you take the risk.

Stuck at google logo, recovery mode doesn't work?
Less than 2 hours old. Personally I see around 3-5 such threads every day that I am on these forums. Rooting is not the path to eternal happiness. You can do almost everything on a stock device, as well as it having great battery and performance out of the box. Don't rush in if you are not sure or confident that you at least have a basic escape plan should it all go wrong.
Why do you need your device to be rooted?
I think I would take enough time to understand what this device can do for me and what are the shortage before going to root.
And XDA here is a good place to seek for almost all kind of information we may need to modify our device, just read more related posts by using the search function.

Plus one this post. You can disable (freeze) system apps in settings and the firefox browser app allows the adblock+ extension to hide ads in an unrooted Nexus. Check your Battery usage and try freezing some system apps running that you don't need. Speed and battery life will improve.
As the other posters have said, why do you want to root your device? But to answer your query, the easiest and the one that worked for me is Wugfresh's toolkit. Just install the drivers properly, and it will guide you through the entire rooting process.

EDIT: Problem Resolved
Hello, after reading for hours, I now realize that I was wrong. Not totally new to rooting, etc. but this one caught me off guard. I updated to the latest MF3 OTA from ATT.
My problem is I tried to install TWRP from the goo manager, and now the recovery doesn't work on the phone at all. For the longest time it just kept rebooting the phone endlessly, and I could make it get into download mode.
I managed to get the phone to boot up by flashing the stock rom with odin in the bootloader section (did this by accident trying to recover the phone), and then went into download mode, and clicked cancel. It booted up fine.
If I try to enter recovery at all, it goes back into the endless boot cycle till I do some playing around with odin.
How to do I get the normal recovery working again? I would like to factory reset this and sell it for a GPE phone.
Thank you for your time.
Is there a downloadable mf3 ROM out there I can use to flash it with Odin?

Not to be a stickler but it's the same person.
And not to be disrespectful, but the galaxyroot website says installing a custom recovery is fine but it must be rooted first - if not rooted go here - you go here and it shows the mf3 root method. Never said much else about it. I rarely use XDA to ask for information. The post always turns into a flame war with people who are extremely disrespectful. To me this forum is extremely mixed up with post, and other times the information isn't clear. I agree totally that I made the mistake, but I admit to my failure and now I'm trying to learn from it. I'll never understand why the people on this forum and I mean especially this forum love to bash others.

The reason people are annoyed is because people are constantly coming here with little knowledge, ignoring all the useful guides stickied at the top of the forums to try and help these exact same people, then rushing into an advanced procedure without a proper idea of what they're doing. Then they make a brand new thread to ask a question/beg for help, when it's already been answered 100 times, rather than searching for the answer first.
It's not something to get upset about because it's going to keep happening no matter what...but it is laughably annoying.
Anyways, I don't know what website galaxyroot is, but you need to get your info/guides/procedures/research right here at XDA...not at some random website with crappy information. That was your first mistake.

Absolutely!
And I might add...
Asking questions (regardless of how many times they have already been asked) is NOT learning. Learning IS searching and reading available information, no matter how much time it takes, until a person has complete knowledge about their device and what it is they are going to be doing to it. It is called "being responsible for your own actions":. People that keep asking the same questions over and over again are NOT trying to learn anything. They are just trying to get someone else that usually did take the time necessary to learn about their phone to get them out of a situation that they got themselves into while putting a minimum of their own effort into it. Just so they can go back and screw something up again.
People who ask valid questions AFTER they have searched, read, and learned are generally handled in a very friendly manner because they have displayed a willingness to actually learn about what they are doing. I've already said this in several other posts but it comes down to people that do things correctly versus people that are lazy, have a sense of entitlement, or feel as if their time is more valuable than others...it's just that simple.

I'm not quite understanding you. Instead of "checking another forum out to see if we have any solutions as of yet", why didn't you take the time to read what has been posted about it in this forum (as suggested)? People (here) even gave you a screenshot and instructions on how to find the EXACT links that would have helped. Was that not enough? I think you are being difficult just to be difficult...or do you really think that you shouldn't have to take the time to research and learn about something even when the links are handed to you? Maybe you should take a little of YOUR time to read and learn a little bit instead of expecting people to take THEIR time to answer your questions that have already been answered multiple times elsewhere, especially when people are nice enough to show you the way. What is your definition of "help"?
You don't have to answer any of this if you don't want to, I actually rather you didn't.

Nevertheless my recovery is working again now. Something that XDA doesn't have posted on it (at least for the mf3). I'm not even going to fight with you. I'd suggest sticking on topic. Anyways I did thank those that helped so don't complain at me for not reading something you know about.
Nevertheless my recovery is working again now. Something that XDA doesn't have posted on it (at least for the mf3). Maybe I could be more of a nerd and explain things in more detail like I should have. I have been pretty sick these last few weeks. I'm a disabled veteran and have quite a lot of problems. You don't freaking know me. Don't tell me what I'm trying to be. Just because I'm not as familiar with this forum like you doesn't mean I didn't freaking try.
I am TRUELY sorry for the inconvenience I have put you through. I won't ask anymore questions here again. I'll go where I should have in the first place.
P.S. - read ALL my post before you decide to play God and tell me what I am. A post I referee to earlier was deleted so it kinda makes me look like a you know what.
Please don't try to bash me here anymore as I really never meant to offend anyone here. Its just really depressing to me that just because you found something and I didn't I'm the idiot.

Wow - 1 question and 2 pages of beating this poor guy senseless.
No disrespect but you guys/gals with 1000+ posts, try to remember when you where single digit posts.
Some people dont "haunt" this forum day and night and know "common" issues/symptoms and their fixes.
I see lots of threads with what appear to be valid questions and just about all say "this has been covered - do some research".
I hope I never go to a Doctor and say "I dont feel well, my nose is running and feel itchy" and they respond "this has been covered - do some research".
Again no disrespect but WOW!!!!

If you find a doctor who provides around the clock support for free, let me know!
If that doctor posts the answers to most of your ailments right on the door when you walk in with a big READ THIS FIRST sign...and you walk right past it and ask him a question that's on the door, do you think that might get annoying?
Ok, I'm tired of this analogy!
Yesterday I updated to 4.4.4 (root still works, SuperSU survival enabled)
The problem is that Xposed Mod doesn't work anymore. It looks like write protection reenabled after update (checked it via PC and adb shell command)
Is there a way to fix that?

The write protection? Not at this time, unless you have an unlocked bootloader. Perhaps someone will come up with an exploit that will turn write protection off on 4.4.4, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I have an unlocked Developer Edition on 4.4.4 with root and WP off, but on my day-to-day Maxx, I'm still at 4.4 with root and WP off and I've frozen MotorolaOTA and Updater to prevent any OTA's from sneaking in.

I'm in the same situation. If you install/update xposed, then cancel the reboot and choose soft reboot, xposed will work. It took several attempts the first time for it to take, but eventually did. The down side is every time your phone shuts off or reboots, you have to reinstall and soft boot. Also, and this may be only me, but about one a day every app crashes at once and forces me to reboot and reinstall xposed. I'm assuming it's because of the framework not being properly written to the system. It's a pain in the butt, but xposed is worth it to me, so I've been dealing with it. Good luck
Wow we really needed a new thread about this. It had been discussed at length already. Did you not read any other posts in this forum.

I keep getting an error when doing the official update.. Anyone had the same issue?

Or just ignore it? It's not like this is a highly active device forum that these are getting in the way of something important.
Not you but the general attitude in this device's forums lately are sad. Yes people ask the same questions a lot, yes it's annoying for those of us that read everything, however you can't assume that everyone reads every post in every thread. It's very easy to just chuckle at the repeat offenders and move along. Beating people down because they asked a question that was already answered on page 45 of 79 in another thread is just as lazy as them not looking for the answer to begin with.

No it is not and if you don't like the attitude of the devs in this forum then feel free to step up and make your own exploits.
Rule number 1 of the forum rules sticky is "search before posting". It is very appropriate to call someone out when they blatantly disregard those rules.
Don't get butthurt on someone for knowing the rules and trying to cut clutter.

Could not have proven my point better, thank you.
If anyone is "butthurt" it appears to be you. What exploits have you made by the way? Everyone has their place in the forums whether they be noob end-users or developers who create great things from virtually nothing. Remember the Golden Rule and things will be much better off.

Anger? No I'm not angry, i'm simply defending someone that you attacked for pointing out the rules. Just like @NWKENT @Caseyk621 @bigv5150 @Jaocagomez would
Furthermore i don't care what you have done for the galaxy community or the roms you made for their devices. We are talking here.
Anyway your argument is invalid and without basis. Attempting to show this to you is likened to speaking with a brick wall.

Hey if you would rather have "devs" bashing people for asking questions than people simply answering questions or ignoring duplicate questions, so be it.
Hi all!
Is there any way to disable update notification message on Verizon GS5? Update is already downloaded.
I'm rooted and with some apps frozen. If I run update it fails.
So, actually more than one question...
I assume I can unfreeze everything and attempt to update. Is it going to break root? Is this going to be rootable after that update?
It is probably answered multiple times, but I cannot find definite, direct answer. So help will be appreciated!
You neglected to tell us how or what you searched for. It's almost impossible to miss all of the existing threads on the subject, don't know how you missed them but we don't know how, what or if you tried searching.

Chances are you won't be able to run it anyway, as you're rooted, just either remove it in titanium, or freeze it, or rename the update apk by putting a .bak on the end of the file name and the odex file too.

They would indeed be able to run it but since the update fails because VZW is able to determine if your rooted the update will fail every single time. I wouldn't worry too much about the update as VZW is finding ways to patch the exploits ie towelroot and the S3 with the upcoming patch will be unable to be rooted.
Sadly there are a lot of members who remind members to constantly search, a good majority of them don't even bother so that might be why he refers to it every single time

Everytime I reply to a thread, you follow with an opinion that is clearly in factual error. Your dedication to increasing your post count is impressive even though it contributes nothing constructive. You were accurate when you characterized yourself as annoying but that is a blight easily solved with a kill filter.
Of course he can run it, as the poster after you correctly observed. Root is sufficient to block the two main processes, the update app and the notification app. One just needs to note Verizon's habit of appending vzw to otherwise standard nomenclature.
Verizon can independently search for evidence of root leading to further notifications. And there is no assured way to block that eventuality.

So when i rooted my phone, my phone failed to even check for updates! All i'm saying about you is the fact that you tell every single person to search, although I get it, you are wasting your time, lastly you really can't call anybody annoying m8, I didn't characterize myself as annoying, what you do every single day is ridicule people for not using the search button you aren't even addressing me and i'm even tired of it.
This is Q+A, it's made for people to ask questions.
And about my post count, I think your math is off, I've been on XDA since 2010 (2007 actually different account) i'm on 3,658 posts, You've been on here for 1 year you have a third of my posts, so theoretically speaking and at the rate you sprout your posts, you will have surpassed my post count in less time than I did, for someone who attempts to sound smart you've had quite an oversight there.

Thanks, I wasn't able to update, I was speaking from my own experiences, and as I said to ffffffft there are over 5 million members on XDA, is he planning on warning everyone? There is a thread in every single section on XDA, telling people to search. I've been there and attempted to tell people to search, doesn't help, there will always be threads of the same question, telling noobs isn't going to change that.

Hopefully not, rooting and having a tinker is what makes android great, I dread to think how I would feel if I was forced into the world of Apple, think I might end up with windows mobile yea I don't want to think like that, long live rooting I say.
I've heard bad things about Verizon doing things to their phones, do you not have a third party retailer in the states? I know that in the UK most people, especially people who want to modify their handsets, will buy from Carphone warehouse or even phones 4 u. You basically end up with the international unlocked version of the handset, as it was intended. I made the mistake of getting my Z1 from EE, turned out that the bootloader couldn't be unlocked no matter what I did, so I bricked it and sent it off for repair through Carphone, got a fully unlocked brand new handset back in five days.

True And I have no idea And you're welcome, I wasn't 100% on the Verizon thing, I only knew what I'd tried myself, I was rooted and updates didn't work for me, maybe a mistake to assume it'd be the same for you, perhaps if it's going to be a huge difference there should be different sections ?
I dunno?
