Hi everyone,
I've just got my new N6P and I found out that whenever I make phone calls the screen turns black and unresponsive until about 10 seconds after the call is ended. I can end the call with the power button and after locking and unlocking the phone the screen goes back to life.
I've read a lots of thread in this forum talking about screen protector causing this problem, but I have no screen protectors installed.
I also tried cleaning my phone very well and some other suggested workarounds: install Google Fit; disable ambient display; disable daydream; disable adaptive brightness. None of them worked.
Finally, I tried installing some apps to verify the behavior of the proximity sensor, but all of them just show that the proximity sensor measure 0cm of distance; of course there's absolutely nothing covering it.
In your opinion, is that a software problem or a hardware problem? Should I RMA my phone ASAP?
Thanks

Try reflash system if you think it's software (you'll have to unlock your bootloader so its recommended to backup your internal storage.)
But to me it sounds like its an hardware issue

Don't you think that reflashing my phone will void my warranty?

Nope, as long your bootloader is relocked again, your warranty company won't know

Ok
So, another question comes to my mind right now: is reflashing worth trying in order to solve my problem?

Yes it is. What you're experiencing is most likely a hardware issue but it's worth a try. For the record, even if you left your bootloader unlocked it wouldn't matter, having an unlocked bootloader has no effect on the warranty with a Nexus device. If you need instructions on flashing the factory images I have a detailed guide here:

Thanks for your answers guys. I'll flash my N6P and let you if my problem will be solved.
I asked the store which sold me the N6P and they told me to return the phone without any software modification, so I'm not attempting to reflash it.
Thanks anyway for your help.
Do u have a screen protector on? Some don't have the correct cutouts for the sensor and that makes it read 0.
I have a fairly thick tempered glass screen protector with no cut outs where the sensor is located and it works perfectly. I use Wakeup Touch Nexus which uses the sensor and it works well. Sounds like a hardware issue to me.

As far as I know all screen protectors that cover the glass affect the sensor. Take it off and I bet u it'll work fine. I went through two screen protectors before I got one with the cutout.

He said it's already working perfectly.
Can you try to reboot to safe mode and then try again? Sometimes its just 3rd party apps that are causing issues likes this.

Hi,
i own my nexus for one week, and today i used a smart cover which caused some troubles.
first all worked like a charm, close the flap, display off, open it, display on. magnets, how do they work? ****ing magic!
well, a couple hours later the touchscreen wasnt responding after shutting down the display. at first, after opening and closing the flap a few times the touchscreen worked again, but by now its totaly ****ed. if the display shuts down, all i can do is pressing the power button for a couple seconds and then start again. (it has nothing todo with the smart cover, i think it was just a coincident)
heres what i have done so far:
- factory reset
- flashed the stock rom (i only unlocked the device)
- re locked the bootloader (mainly because im pretty sure its a hardware issue and i wanna return it...)
is there anything else i can do? i know that there are many issues with the touchscreen, but from what i read, its about ghosting and other glitches, not a complete breakdown that can only be fixed by rebooting and occurs as soon as the display shuts down.
thanks for your help!
What brand of smart cover/case are you using? and do you still have the same problems even without the cover?

yeah, the problems are even without the cover. i thought there was maybe a problem that the hall sensor got magnetized or whatever, but that doesnt fit with the symptoms.
i use this case:

Yeah seems that it's more of a hardware issue that was probably caused from the case if anything. Good thing you already re-locked the bootloader since I'd suggest returning it for a replacement. Just don't mention anything about using a case . If you do get a replacement, maybe try a different case to avoid the same problem.
Is using a case with a magnetic cover against tos?

No, otherwise why would they have put the sensor in the device to react to it?
Love this phone (I generally only get nexus devices), but I'm getting this strange problem and wondering if anyone else is getting this.
Anytime I make a phone call or receive a phone call, my screen goes completely black. I can finish the phone call no problem, but when I'm done with the phone call the screen stays completely black and nothing works except holding the power button down for 10 seconds to reboot it. This just started the other day and is a real pain in the ass as I get a few phone calls a day.
I also just bought a 2016 Ford F-150 and the Bluetooth worked perfect for the first week of using the phone with the Bluetooth in the truck. Now it refuses to connect to my truck. Now I'm using a 3.5 mm headphone cable to play music through my truck. My wife's LG G4 and my Nexus 9 connect just fine to my truck, so I know its my phone.
I'm completely stock.. Not root, no ROM, no nothing. I'll try a factory reset on my day off, but just wondering if anyone else is having these issues. These are not deal breakers for me, but rather a PIA that I'm working around.
Thanks,
Dave

Yes I do. I just installed it the other day. A tempered glass protector. I would have never of thought if that. What would cause the screen protector to do that? I'm pissed lol.

unfortunately some manuf. rushed to get their protectors to market quickly, and did not have proper cut outs for the proximity sensor, which causes your issue.

I'll be dammed. Thanks for the info. First time I've had this issue. And my Bluetooth magically started working again. Not sure what that was about. Good info and someone should make a sticky about this in accessories.

Hello guys,
Need a help.
I am facing a weird issue that sometimes when I get a call, the phone switches off within the first 1-2 secs abruptly and doesn't power on again, this has occurred many a times and I have no idea why the problem exists so I went ahead to reset the phone to factory settings but with no luck as after 1 day it gave me the same issue.
Would be of great help if someone provides me a solution to this.
Regards,
Suvojit
No idea..have never faced this kind of issues

That's maybe because proximity sensor might be sensing the wrong distance.....are you using anything to cover your screen or have something between the speaker and the front camera?
I am also facing the same problem from evening.

No bro I dot think that it would be an issue with the proximity sensor as it is not only when my phone is in my pocket but otherwise also its getting switched off like that.

It is very, very, very likely that the screen protector is the issue.

Hello
I replaced my Galaxy note 3 screen, everything is working good. But it seems I lost the brightness. It is on a high brightness and does not go down, even when I put auto. I need to lower the brightness, because of saving batteri and for a better reading to my eyes.
Do you have any solution? Is it a hardware or software issue?

Was the replacement an original Samsung? If not, many third party replacements don't support auto brightness.

I think it wasn't an original Samsung. But are there any way to make it support or fix the problem?
You could look for apps in the play store that might help.
Did you try a factory reset of the phone?

But if I use an app it will also use my battery, I am right?
No actually I didn't try a factory reset, should I do that?
I don't know how much battery power the app will use. When ever I had to replace a screen, I just looked for a phone with broken internal components and a working screen.
Try a factory reset but make sure you have a backup of your data.

Have you tried contacting the seller and asking for assistance?
I can't think of anything else to suggest.
Are you sure you not covered the light sensor. Maybee forgotten to remove the protection foil. The light sensor is beside the front camera. Is the front canera working?

Both the light sensor and front camera are working
Have the same issue with samsung s3, Everything works fine except the brightness won't budge, the light sensor is working fine. I checked with sensors multitool and it responds so there is no question of sensor being blocked or damaged.
I agree that with 3rd Party replacement Screen, Samsung just doesn't want to work, I would have gone for another device for the price I paid for the replacement display but I didn't thought of it at that time. anyways, Samsung sells crap, I have seen so many users having issues with their displays, even the newer ones. I have stopped investing in Samsung anymore, lost trust, feels like been betrayed with the one that I fell in love.
Auto brightness often doesn't work with any 3rd party screens on any phone.
Hey guys,
My Oneplus 5 is working fine without issues but when I make a phone call and have the phone up to my face on almost every call the speaker phone ends up going on by itself. I think this is because the screen is turning on even though the phone is up to my face which would probably be the proximity sensor. It might be worth noting that i use the phone on my left ear as I am a lefty. Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone know a solution to this problem?
Thanks!

No I'm not using anything but a cheap gel back protector.
I have the same problem. But I thought the screen was turning on because of double tap to wake .
Same issue here, I even started a thread about it weeks ago. Seems like there must be a dodgy batch of sensors.
I'm going to send mine back under warranty once I can get my 6o back from my daughter so I have a backup phone.

I have the same issue. I used *#808# to check whether the Proximity sensor is working as it should. And it does. For me it more looks like a software issue
