Phone freezes when I get a phone call or make one - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Love this phone (I generally only get nexus devices), but I'm getting this strange problem and wondering if anyone else is getting this.
Anytime I make a phone call or receive a phone call, my screen goes completely black. I can finish the phone call no problem, but when I'm done with the phone call the screen stays completely black and nothing works except holding the power button down for 10 seconds to reboot it. This just started the other day and is a real pain in the ass as I get a few phone calls a day.
I also just bought a 2016 Ford F-150 and the Bluetooth worked perfect for the first week of using the phone with the Bluetooth in the truck. Now it refuses to connect to my truck. Now I'm using a 3.5 mm headphone cable to play music through my truck. My wife's LG G4 and my Nexus 9 connect just fine to my truck, so I know its my phone.
I'm completely stock.. Not root, no ROM, no nothing. I'll try a factory reset on my day off, but just wondering if anyone else is having these issues. These are not deal breakers for me, but rather a PIA that I'm working around.
Thanks,
Dave

do you have a screen protector on it?
if so remove it and try the calls again...

Yes I do. I just installed it the other day. A tempered glass protector. I would have never of thought if that. What would cause the screen protector to do that? I'm pissed lol.

unfortunately some manuf. rushed to get their protectors to market quickly, and did not have proper cut outs for the proximity sensor, which causes your issue.

I'll be dammed. Thanks for the info. First time I've had this issue. And my Bluetooth magically started working again. Not sure what that was about. Good info and someone should make a sticky about this in accessories.

Help.. URGENT help.. I cracked my screen.

So my Nexus had the screen lift.. I was just curious, and wanted to see the back of it.
Took the back cover off, no problem. I didn't really do anything except look around. When I wanted to pop the back cover back in, I had trouble with one corner.. it just wouldn't pop in. So i pushed that corner a bit (I swear I didn't really use that much strength) but I turned the device around and saw the corner of the glass was cracked. It didn't reach the pixeled part of the screen, it was only at the black border.
So I thought- ah.. oh well it was my fault. I was pissed.. but who was I to blame right? I'll just live with it.
Here comes the problem.. I pushed the Power button, the lock screen came on as usual. However, it seems to have absolutely no response to my touches at all. I tried touching every single corner... NOTHING.
There is absolutely nothing I can do with this device right now.. Except 1. power it on, 2. take a screen shot.
Can anyone tell me what to do now? I've taken the device out of the states. The country I am in do have Asus office. I know the warranty probably does not cover this. I would be willing to pay for a new screen- but does anything know how much it will cost?
Sigh.. any help/comment would be nice. I'm totally devastated right now. I know it's my fault for not being careful. But I am able to go traveling next week, and was looking forward to reading books on it etc.
If it were me, I'd send it back and get a replacement since it had screen lift and that was the only reason you opened it...

Well I'm not in the U.S, and won't be anytime soon. My friend bought it over for me. Tomorrow I will call the local Asus office and ask them about it.
In the meanwhile I might just buy the micro-USB to USB cable, and use a mouse to control it. Although That will look ridiculous as I'll have to find a flat surface to use the mouse everytime. Is there some other USB controller I can use to control the screen?
Also I don't really know much about digitizers.. once you crack one corner, does it mean the entire thing is not usable anymore?
I had very small screen lift issue. Barely noticeable. But with this official nexus 7 cover seems to keep it down

The touch panel is fused to the glass so if it breaks you're out of luck sorry

does that mean if I want to get a replacement I'll have to pay for LCD+digitizer? :crying:
It'll probably cost more than $100 right...

Screen responsiveness

I've noticed that the screen responsiveness varies. Sometimes it takes a few touches before it responds other times it responds as expected.
Assume it's user error so are there any tricks/hints when using the N7? Not using a screen protector
+1 on this question.
Not sure if the varying screen response it me (user error) or the N7 itself.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or, as the OP asked, do you have any tricks/hints to share?
It looks like this happens to a bunch of people. It happens to me frequently and I usually just lock the device, pick it up and then unlock it being careful I don't have any fingers on the screen before I hit the button.
I'm not sure if it's a defect or not. Some say it is. I would tend to think so too.
There's another thread on this topic, there I asked this same question.
Do you have a screen protector installed?
If not perhaps you're in a region/area with high electrostatic or humidity, moisture..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No offense, but I doubt the electrostatic or humid environment idea since it seems to be solved instantly by turning the screen off and back on.
I have this problem with a screen protector installed. I may remove it and try without it, but I've never had issues with XO Skins before and don't really want to trash a $20 screen protector.
I have this problem without a screen protector on

I've notices laggy screen response on my 1 day old N7. I'm contemplating doing a factory restore/wipe.
I don't have a screen protector but it definitely lacks touch responsiveness.

I have had to on occasion press twice on buttons when the first press doesn't register as well. I've seen that other thread about playing games heating up the tegra chipset affecting screen responsiveness severely, but in my case this is from light usage.
Mine has been pretty responsive so far without any issue. Just got it yesterday.
I've started to notice this issue today for sure. I thought it was my imagination before as I had only gotten it in games but today I got it in tapatalk as well. Thinking about trying for a replacement. I had gotten mine at Walmart so I guess I could go through them for exchange...

I got my 1st one at Wal-Mart too, so I went back there yesterday to get a 2nd one to compare.
It seems to me that I'm not experiencing the lag as often on the 2nd one (I don't play any potentially resource-draining games, so I notice the lag more when I'm reading something and trying to scroll up or down).
I have started to wonder though if, in my case, maybe it's happening because I haven't installed a screen protector yet. I have one on my KFire and don't have the lag/sensitivity problem. So I figure I'll get one installed on my N7 soon and hopefully that'll cure this for me...
I noticed this the last 2-3 days. However, it seems to be only in Chrome browser. I never close my browser, and towards the end of the day, I'll unlock the tab, go into chrome, and I'll have to hit everything twice...keyboard included. I just completely close it out and start it back up, and it's fine again for another day. So it's not a problem for me.
Just had it again and while it was happening I went ahead and enabled the Dev option to show presses and it definitely requires a harder press to respond over time. I believe the digitizer is at fault on this.

Question About RMA'ing To Asus After Blown Speakers.

Okay, yesterday, tablet froze, and I hard rebooted, what's weird is it wouldn't boot up for like 2 minutes, I thought it had literally died, well after two minutes of trying it finally rebooted, but all the sudden my speakers were low, and crackly no matter how low/high the volume was, I think somehow the tablet freezing literally blew my speakers -.-, so I called in and set up an RMA and shipped it out today, my question is, with ASUS, and the blown speakers, do they just fix it and return it, or send you a completely new unit, or a refurbished one? I'm sad I have to go 2-3 weeks without my lovely tablet </3.
For me they have repaired the original unit within 6 days, Asus Czech repair center. I am pleased with them.

when my N7 was damaged and i sent it to ASUS for repairs, they just fixed what was needed and sent back the same one. and that was for a cracked screen, so a small issue like damaged speakers im pretty sure they'll just fix it and send back your original.

Are crackly speakers at max volume normal or is that an RMA worthy defect?

I have the same issue on my Nexus 7 3G, and it happens when certain frequencies are played loudly (like bass).

This wasn't at just max volume, this was any volume I had it on, from 1% all the way to 100% it was always crackly after the thing froze and I had to hard reboot it.
Has anyone sent in the N7 with bootloader unlocked? Or should we always always relock to be safe?
Send it in its factory condition to be sure!

OMG... Same thing happened to my first Nexus 7,
I was watching Simpsons on my Nexus 7, then it froze for 2 minutes, with a high pitch coming out from speaker....
I assume the high pitch was the reason the speaker blew...
But the best part, i bought it from a really good store were they have this policy of if your device broke, send it back within Warranty and get replacement...
So i quickly Relocked OEM and Unrooted,
But i think my Titanium Backup folder and Clockwork Folders are still inside
Good luck to Asus

[Q] LCD Appears Damaged

Hey everybody,
I bought this phone last week and installed a skinomi screen protector. I removed it after about 12 hours to try and remove some dust from underneath the screen. I set it aside to do it later and I powered the phone on without the screen protector, I was really surprised when I got a screen that said that the lcd appeared damaged.
Knock-on does not work at all, if I apply pressure to the right side of the screen it simulates a weird half touch to the right. Any ideas? I'll probably just add the phone insurance and get a new one unless someone has a fix.
Thanks

Why not just take it back. You are still in the 14 day window.

Are the Skinomi wet application? Maybe you used too much water or something and it damaged your screen.

maybe, but I've done alot of them and I've never had a problem before...
That screen pops up if you hold a certain button combination too. I can't remember how I found it but I was looking in the system files via nova, and noticed it. May not even,be damaged.

[Q] Paint peeling off comes under warranty?

Hey guys. I got my Nexus6P exactly on the 1st of this month through a local retailer here called Poorvika mobiles. Pretty awesome and I've had no problems until today when I found the paint on the right corner edge of my phone seems to have peeled off. I'm pretty sure it's not a scratch as I've had a Spigen rugged armor case since day 10 and I check my phone occasionally for issues. I want to know if this would come under warranty as this is pretty soon for a phone of this cost to have paint come off. Picture attached to post.
Couldn't attach picture to first post for some reason. Posting here.
And will they accept if I return it?
Maybe, call them and report your results.
They might, but you'll need to contact them...
It's rudimentary...

UPDATE: So I remove my case today for the first time after taking that picture and holy f**k. It's chipped on the top. It's been in the case the whole time. Right now, I'm at home most of the time and the phone is either with me or on a table. It hasn't fallen even once to date. I have no clue as to what is happening
You could try to change the phone but maybe you might get a replacement with eg. faulty pixels. If you use a case, I would not bother about this problem. Just for the fun of it, when was your phone manufactured ? Mine was built in 11/13.
What about when you're sleeping can you fully account for the devices whereabouts

Mine was manufactured on 11/11. And I think I'll head over to the store now and show it to them. The problem right now is I have no real proof of anything. Anyway, I guess it'll be worth the ask. One of the reasons, I purchased this phone apart from it's awesome performance is the looks. It sucks to see this happening to a great phone like this so early.

Yeah. I live with my parents who hate android so they never touch my phone. Apart from that, I sleep the last at night so there's no way anyone could've taken it. Also it's in its case all the time.
