I didn't know if any of the ATT PREORDERED NOTE 3's were out yet or not - but am curioius to find out if ATT is going to lock the bootloader for this phone like they did for the S4?
I think it is inevitable, but I was hoping that maybe they wouldn't be
If this is in the wrong forum for this, let me mknow or have the moderator delete this - I looked and couldn't find any other threads for the NOTE 3.
Anyone?
PS - if the bootler is locked for the ATT Varient - I was thinking of buying an unlocked phone - any difference between the N9000 and N9005?
99% its going to be locked. Makes me want to wait for Nexus 5. To much of a headache for Samsung.

I loved my NOTE 2 - got the S4 for the processor and camera - and want the Note 3 for the same reasons. The LOCKED BOOTLOADER thing is a bunch of crap - and it was a sad day when ATT started doing it. I doubt they will ever change policy, but I sure wish they would. It's one thing to lock a contract phone..I think I can understand their reasons for wanting to do that - but if I OWN the device - what business do they have preventing me from using it fully? arghh....oh well, fingers crossed we are both wrong - but I think your assessment was correct.
It's already been confirmed as locked by designgears. Great developer btw. Do a search. Also, look at the dev section cwm thread. Notice which models are missing? Att and Verizon.

Also I would wait a week and wait for others to confirm the T-Mobile note 3 works on att. All data so far says it will. This has been discussed in a few threads.

T-mobile note 3 working on AT&T as in LTE as well? 3g should work without any issue I would think.
If so it would make perfect sense to purchase a t-mobile n3 outright just for the unlocked bootloader.
Yes, LTE as well. Full compatability. Along with a few extra bands. Just need to confirm this week with a real device.
There is a bigger thread on here discussing this. Check the Q&A forum.

Now for some shipping confirmation!!!!! I'm right with you!!!! Come on Negri!!!
rooted, recovered, and rebooted from the ol' i777.......
So what does the future look like for the N900A? Does the locked bootloader mean the only way to obtain root access will be through an exploit someone may eventually stumble upon? Will it most likely never be flashable, or is anything a possibility at this point? I have one on preorder and it's feeling like more of a downgrade all the time...

It's basically the same situation as the AT&T S4 with the newest knox firmware. Most likely an exploit found on that will also work on the AT&T note 3. I don't think anything is 100% secure but it may be a long time till one is found. I don't know if safestrap can be adapted or not. As far as flashing roms it depends on how much the phone is locked down but in the past if it was using a signed kernel then a custom rom could be flashed as long as it kept the stock kernel. You can be sure though that some very talented people are working on it. It's just a waiting game at this point.

Thanks, that gives me a bit of hope... Most people thought the PS3 would never get owned, and it obviously was As it is I'm basically buying an expensive bike with training wheels rigged to blow the tires if removed and a titanium boot permanently affixed that the most powerful blowtorch available cannot cut through.

It isn't up to Sony, the carrier has told Sony it wants to buy phones with locked bootloaders, blame your carrier instead.
Can't say I'm suprised in the least. It's supposed to be Tmobile exclusive flag ship. That said it's not the first locked bootloader the world has seen. Is just a matter of time before someone figures out a workaround.
We can still flash international stock ROMs right? That good enough for me if I ever feel the need to use a custom rom I have my note 3 for that.

Exactly, Z1s was meant to be for TMO so we can't blame Sony. Actually many people advice us to do not buy the Xperia from Carriers because of that, but like all the times many do not search and read carefully.

On locked bootloader should be no problem, the root come soon. Someone just complain because of permanently locked bootloader and no custom kernels for them.
Is there or will there be any way to root without unlocking the bootloader? I dont really care about flashing the rom but rooting is a whole different story for me :/
Agreed. Rooting is essential at the very least.
Sony and T-Mobile need to realize that people who purchase this device are very discerning consumers and tech users. We didn't just settle for the s4.
We chose this device for superior styling, specs, and build quality. And i hope i speak for others too when i say that i jumped to T-Mobile (despite concerns of service quality) because i was tired of the service i was receiving from my old carrier. I am thus far very pleased.
John Legere claims that all his grand ideas were the result of listening to customers carrier woes. Honestly he is the reason i switched. Not because i think T-Mobile will be the best carrier, but because i think he can/will change the industry and that deserves a little faith. Well i think it's time for John to have a little faith in us.

Honestly we should write a letter to Mr Legere with attached signatures from users of all android devices petitioning for the unlocking of bootloaders on all currently supported and future handsets.
Am i correct in assuming this does not affect sim unlock? Hell they could require that the handset be paid off or that the user be enrolled in the jump program (insured).
We need to show manufacturers and carriers how big the Android modding community is and let them see that this community is the future of android and all mobile device development.

Has there been much dev progress here? As soon as someone dumps a FTF, C6906s can start flashing them and seeing what breaks. I have an AT&T sim card, though, so I can't really help. I ended up with a Telus C6906 anyway, so it's locked BL.

Honestly, I don't think they want to win the "discerning and technical" crowd so much as they just want a big market share. The portion of the marketshare who cares about root/unlock BL/customization is not big enough for them to fight carriers and keep the product financially viable. The carriers are going to push way more sales volume than Sony could on their own, so Sony has to appease them. If it wanted to, maybe Sony could become the Tesla of handsets (distribution without dealerships), but there's no precedent or market case for all that leg work.

It's locked permanently or can be unlocked?
Technically, "carrier bootloader locked." As in, "bootloader unlock allowed: no". The official unlock procedure doesn't work, obviously, but I'm confident that this is possible to reverse.
I've been doing some research on how to bypass this (talking to Sony dev, reviewing how it was done on the Z), but haven't had much time since the holidays to actually hack the hardware yet.
Never huge fan of Sony, I only purchased this cause its water resistance. After seeing how easy it is to brick this device, i wouldn't even try to unlock BL even if it's unlockable. But really wants root though.

Will the limitation on most G4 models (unrootable, locked) forever burden the independent development scene?
I wanna buy the rootable international version but I'm afraid that the limitations on other models would mean less development (less LG4 custom roms/kernel/etc to choose from).
Is this just a minor issue until someone finds a method to unlock all phones? It's literally the only reason I didn't buy it yesterday.
Patience. Root will come. Any dev who wants a $2000+ payday will figure it out soon enough, according to 1 sizeable bounty on XDA...
The phone is great without root anyway...I too desperately miss some features on the unrootable dual SIM G4, but no way near enough to stop me getting it now before root. I'd be posting this in the root thread/s, there's plenty of them...

That was a bit silly... all dev XDA phones (G4) are rooted. They need to develop a safe and efficient alternative for end users without the potential for bricking which is why it's not released yet, so technically "we have root", but it's just not released/widespread yet. Check the other G4 boards - one of the main contributors, Autoprime, confirms my comments above. But... if you can't wait, you can't wait...

He is 100% right. I boycotted the S6/Note 5 because of the Exynos chip. I have already pre ordered my S7 and it should be here in a day or so. (i might return it for the edge but that wont hinder development since they are basically the same device)

Ok so I'm a noob. I've been using Android for about 2 and a 1/2 years and I'm interested in rooting my phone.
I want to root my s7 edge. I understand that you can't really root the snapdragon 820 version (I have at&t if that matters). The reason I want to root is because I hate TouchWiz and I love stock Android. I want all the latest updates and so on. So basically I want to have an s7 edge with Nexus stock Android. Can you delete Android entirely from the phone and reinstall it in Nexus form. I'm sorry please don't judge and I know that's a stupid question. If there is now a way to rooton the s7 edge snapdragon 820 at&t please let me know. Sorry this is so long.
