I've been using SD-based storage for a long time (I think my old HP iPAQ pocket PC had one) and have had good, but not perfect, luck with them being reliable.
Given my personal experience with very occasional corrupted storage (unreadable jpgs, that kind of thing - never had a catastrophic whole card failure), I would be very reluctant to incorporate SD card storage as a potential point of failure for my device's basic operation.
Glad you didn't have a bigger problem.

Never had that brand before, was it genuine or a cheap one?
The only time I've ever had issues is when I tried to go cheap instead of forking out retail prices.
Yea....I lost many pictures of my Ex-Girlfriends because of corrupt SD-Cards.
One of girlfriends pictures were so good, I have contemplated sending my SD Card to a data recovery firm and forking out the $250 so I can get these images. Yea, they were that good. She was just too crazy to stay with though. =)
Only really had problems with SD cards I when you buy them on ebay thinking they are the real deal. Hopefully you backed your stuff up regularly

The two SD Cards I had go bad were a Samsung and a San-Disk purchased from Best Buy. Maybe Best Buy is selling counterfeits?

Will they get my data off of them for free?
Highly doubt it, I'm sure they would just erase everything but you could always call them up and ask. Nevery done it, I only call to confirm my cards I received were in fact real Sandisk
I had 2 Sandisk become Read-only in my Galaxy phones (replaced under lifetime warranty). I've had a Samsung 64GB running for over two years with no problem.
I have a Lexar Pro 1000x 128Gb do the same thing, came up corrupted about 4th day of use (Mar 14). I had enabled encryption on it, after reformatting I disabled encryption and reloaded from my backup. It's been fine since. Any chance you HAD been using encryption on the SD card?
My phone is the SM-G935A (US AT&T) variant.
My 128 card corrupted after i encrypted it. I disabled the encryption, restarted the phone and it fixed the problem. I can access the files now, seems there is a problem with andriod encryption.
Fyi, no issue with my SD card to this point, keeping it un encrypted.
I had a 64gb sandisk go read-only on me one day. Sent it to sandisk and they sent me a new one quick and easy.
Currently have a 128gb sandisk. *knocks on wood*
Same here, it's a 128GB Sandisk class 10 brand new. Have to reformat the card. Luckily I gave a backup.

Not a UHS-II interface in the phone. The cards (such as the Lexar 1000x and 1800x) will work, just not at rates beyond the UHS-I interface.
It's better to spend less money on more capacity from a 'lower spec' Sandisk type card, IMO.

Thanks for the info.
Now the dilemma is whether pay more and buy for the future or less and get higher capacity as you suggested

Recently bought one off of eBay for $40 (+ $9 3-day USPS shipping) and it works as good as gold in my HTC Touch Pro. It was listed as "bulk" and did not come in the official Sandisk blister pack; therefore, this could possibly be gray-market hardware, but it works as listed none the less.
Perfect amount of space for my GPS software and my music/talk-radio.
I have had it for about 5 days now and have had zero compatibility or usage issues.
Cheers!

Haha, he said possibly... I'm pretty sure that MicroSD card you just bought was not manufactured by Sandisk. Good to hear that it's working okay though.
Ya, well I bought a 16GB MicroSD card and it has been working FLAWLESSLY...until tonight. I was re-installing a ROM and re-installing TT7...when the install hung...told me it couldn't install...then the card just died. Hopefully SanDisk will RMA it...

Well, most suggest that you remove the SD card prior to installation of a new ROM. I am using my card with Elite RC2 Rom, but have not tried leaving it in while installing a new ROM.
At this point, I have purchased 3 Sandisk Micro SD cards (2 4 gig HC's, and 1 8 gig HC) over the past 1.5-2 years off of eBay and haven't had a single one of them fail... none of them came in Sandisk blister packs.
Time will tell...

Im sure you could find one cheaper, but I am willing to bet is bootleg. Anyway the 55.00 ballpark is not that bad. Or you can wait till the 32gb releases. That will drop the price of the 16 big time.

So is the SanDisk 16GB Class 2 card good? Mainly the class 2 part. Will it be much slower than my current class 4 8GB card?
I just got my Sandisk 16gb card. It was Sandisk branded in a Sandisk blister pack. It works, but so far I'm having intermittent problems with my MP3 files pausing and starting again. Sometimes worse than others. It happens with Kinoma, Coreplayer, Windows Media Player and the Sprint Music player. Are there any ways of minimizing this?

It will not be much slower (could even be faster). Check this thread, where someone posted his c4 8GB card benchmark, which was lower than my numbers posted at the end.

Try reformatting, and apply this patch as well. I got a bulk package from ebay, and I haven't had a single problem so far (more than 2 weeks).

You may be better off getting a 16GB card as the 32GB cards are extremely rare and extremely expensive.

It's a supported format if it's SDHC so it should work. I'd still go with the 16GB because it's the safer option and you don't need 32GB of space on a phone.

Lol... Well yeah, it's possible to fill any amount of space. Having said that, I'd say anything that isn't used on a fortnightly basis is superfulous and as such, I doubt you've got 16GB of 'vital' data?
On another note... the more data on the storage card the slower the indexing and performance. So, I'd weigh up 'needs' rather than 'wants'. Hell, I'd love a 32Gb SDHC crad for my phone, but I wouldn't need the space and so couldn't justify the expense or the reduced performance or risk incompatability.
Still, good point
crabby
very well, but can anyone JUST TRY to check compartibility ?
Well i use my X1a as my music player in my car, so my 16gb is filled up, 32gb would be super nice since i have tons of music i still wanna put on my X1, and a couple of movies i may add!!
Is there such a thing as a 32gb micro sd card? I've never seen it.
Does anyone has a link to where I can get one?
I'm using my 16gb, very satisfied with how much room there is!
A 32GB card ought to work, in my opinion.
I wonder what will be the benchmark for the 32Gb? will it be slower that the 16Gb.. for example for the Class 4... is the 16Gb slower that the 4Gb stock microSD of X1?
the x1 does support cards up to 32gb.
or aleast thats what sony said
32GB Micro SD cards cannot be purchased yet.
The link at the beginning of this thread pointed to SD cards, not micro SD.
As the Micro SD slots are so small, I thought it'd be nice to have two in a phone so you can easily add capacity. Mind you, I've still got an 8gb and it's got a wee bittie of room left on it
Hi Everyone,
I have read the extensive thread on compatible SD cards, but just wanted to open another thread asking if there are any known 32GB cards working with this phone or if you guys have heard of any officially certified 32GB cards coming soon. I am DESPERATE to have more storage on my phone, but will not buy a card unless I know it is working for sure and want to go for the 32 as soon as possible. Thanks!
Well I can only speak on my personal experience but I've been using a Kingston Class4 32GB card since November 8th and have never had any issues. And I'm sitting at around 12GB of usage (music, videos, etc).
I'm not saying this is gauranteed to work - just relaying what my personal experience has been.
Use at your own risk...
My Kingston 32GB C4 card lagged really bad once I got over 10GB. There are so many conflicting reports like this. Using any card is a bit of a gamble at this stage.

Kingston Class 4 - Working Great Here
I also have had a 32GB Kingston Class 4 card in my Focus and have been using it since November 8th. I have had no problems at all.
Total Storage 37.07 GB
Available Storage 22.20 GB
So I am using 15GB of my storage for music and such and have had no problems whatsoever.

I'd be curious to see what happens when you get over 16GB. It seems like 8GB cards are okay; maybe there's something that freaks out when you use more external storage than internal.
I also would be interested in what happens once you fill it past 16GB. Would one of you be willing to give it a shot for us? Thanks for the replies everyone!

I recieved that card from Amazon early this week but so far all I've done is benchmark it. The card is pretty impressive with sequential and random read-rates but its write speeds are about the same as the Sandisk Class 2 I currently have in my Focus. Right now I'm waffling on wether to go through the process of swapping the cards and reinstalling everything or waiting until the NoDo update comes out. If I do make the swap I'll probably post on the working sd cards thread

Questions like these will just invoke peoples opinions and everybody has one. Nobody will be able to tell you what is "best". They all work good and the same. Samsung make cards just fine. So does PNY, Lexar, Kingston,Transcend, etc. Me personally, I stay with the major brands. You should be fine if you do so.Sounds like you just might have a bad card.Take it back and exchange it for something else.

I am a fan of Sandisk cards. Used a 64GB micro in this phone and then moved onto a PNY card which is what currently is in my Note now. There is another thread somewhere in here, maybe Accessories, that has a great deal on MicroSD cards from Best Buy and Amazon. I would start to look this week at getting a card cause you probably can get one for a steal being that this is Black Thursday/Friday.

Basically, I'm trying to decide between a Samsung 64gb Pro sdxc class 10 or a Sandisk Extreme sdxc class 10, which is like $25 more. Am I wasting my money going the more expensive route? Will my phone even show the difference?
I was having problems with my 16 and 32G samsung cards in my note 2, when i got my note 3 i went with a 64G sandisk (had an amazon gift card to use up) and have nothing but good things to say. I tried my 32G samsung in the note 3 as well and it was hit or miss kinda like your describing
It's hit or miss. My 32 gb sandisk class 10 just stopped working last night, lost everything on the card. Im probably going with a samsung card next. There are many reports of samsung devices ruining memory cards, especially sandisk brand.

I have a Sandisk 64gb card. It did crap out on me but they replaced it and so far so good. I've never had a problem with Micro Center cards but as of right now the biggest they have is 32gb. That's my backup in case my 64gb Sandisk craps out again.

1. Self-censoring is not sufficient to avoid an infraction from moderators. I highly suggest editing your post and removing all the curse words within it.
2. Buying a no-name MicroSD card is the source of all your problems. I bet that card was really inexpensive, right? That's because the card manufacturer lied to you and told you the card was Class 10 when it really is Class 2 or Class 4. These cards are far slower than a true Class 10 card, but are far less expensive as well.
3. It's good to see you've learned the lesson here, which is to only buy brand name MicroSD cards. Sandisk is a good choice.
