Anyone tryed 32 Gb SDHC? - XPERIA X1 General

i want buy 16gb memory but may be 32gb have unofficial support.......

You may be better off getting a 16GB card as the 32GB cards are extremely rare and extremely expensive.

in Belarus 32gb sdhc from 80$ (2 class) upto 110-170$ (4 class)

It's a supported format if it's SDHC so it should work. I'd still go with the 16GB because it's the safer option and you don't need 32GB of space on a phone.

Lol... Well yeah, it's possible to fill any amount of space. Having said that, I'd say anything that isn't used on a fortnightly basis is superfulous and as such, I doubt you've got 16GB of 'vital' data?
On another note... the more data on the storage card the slower the indexing and performance. So, I'd weigh up 'needs' rather than 'wants'. Hell, I'd love a 32Gb SDHC crad for my phone, but I wouldn't need the space and so couldn't justify the expense or the reduced performance or risk incompatability.
Still, good point

very well, but can anyone JUST TRY to check compartibility ?

Well i use my X1a as my music player in my car, so my 16gb is filled up, 32gb would be super nice since i have tons of music i still wanna put on my X1, and a couple of movies i may add!!

Is there such a thing as a 32gb micro sd card? I've never seen it.
Does anyone has a link to where I can get one?

I'm using my 16gb, very satisfied with how much room there is!

A 32GB card ought to work, in my opinion.

I wonder what will be the benchmark for the 32Gb? will it be slower that the 16Gb.. for example for the Class 4... is the 16Gb slower that the 4Gb stock microSD of X1?

the x1 does support cards up to 32gb.
or aleast thats what sony said

32GB Micro SD cards cannot be purchased yet.
The link at the beginning of this thread pointed to SD cards, not micro SD.
As the Micro SD slots are so small, I thought it'd be nice to have two in a phone so you can easily add capacity. Mind you, I've still got an 8gb and it's got a wee bittie of room left on it

Max card support?

Hello all, anyone know what the max card support for the universals sd/mmc reader is
Thanks
Hi there,
If I'm not wrong, the manual says clearly that universal can read/write SD cards up to 2GB (unless someone with a better expertise than me knows something different).
In any case, this is not completely right, many people uses 4GB cards (including me), but it seems that not all the applications can cope with them, photo camera is one of them, if I'm not wrong, it will not save the photos to the SD unless it has 2GB or less free space.
Somewhere else in this forum, someone else said that he even uses a sam..ung 8GB SD card (very expensive).
Hope this helps

Yup i use a 8GB Samsung SD Card to watch DVD's. I dont have the time to encode DVD's to avi xvid format so i just copy them directly to the 8GB card and watch them on the tcpmp player. Quite fun i believe. I am waiting for the 32GB SD Card release by samsung and sandisk.
im using the 4gb 150x sd card from mobymemory (£47) no probs! nice and quick too noticed tomtom load quicker.
also im using the newest qtek rom and the camera stores to card no probs (dont have to have 2gb used as per some other complaints)
Im getting the 4gb Transcend sd card soon.. im currently using 2gb transcend but I soon realized it still isnt enough...the bigger, the better of course
nuclear, I don't understand... how is an 8GB SD card possible??? 4GB should be the absolute max.
Does the Universal support SDHC in one of the newer ROMs or something?

Well the device will always show you 2000MB regardless of the ROM. But you can put more than 2000MB on your 8GB card and it will read all the files and you can use them. Its just that at this part the memory monitor will show your SD card in the negative section or full. All SD Card are compatible in the HTC Universal. Enjoy.

Brain... does... not... compute.
Nuclear, I need more info. What card did you get? What brand? Is it SD or SDHC? How did you format it?
What's different about the Universal that makes it possible?!?

Hmmm I got one of these

MUCH faster transfers when you put it straight in your PC. I'm thinking of getting the new 2Gb version soon

My Universal screwed up my precious 4GB SanDisk Extreme III card and my 8GB Samsung. Literally it made my 8GB to 2GB and my 4GB to 2GB. I lost 6GB of space on my 8GB card into nothing. I am contacting tech support all day and this is what they posted. THE MAX IS 2GB!!!! >>>>>.<<<<< scary ;(
http://www.sandisk.com/Compatibility/Device(8016)-i-mate-JasJar.aspx
I was going through the SD specifications, and it looks like that SD 1.1 could support up to 64GB (!!!) using 32KB clusters.
Unfortunately, this won't ever happen, since SD 2.0 flags anything above 2GB as a memory error.
8GB should be possible because FAT32 defaults to 4KB clusters, which would match. Larger capacity would need reformating to match the larger SD clusters, but technically it should be possible, IMHO.
So probably some of the Samsung OEMs do work at 8GB using SD 1.1. But I'm seeing the new auctions say SD 2.0 compatible only.
Oh well, I can live with 4GB, but I hope Windows Mobile adds support for SDHC and MMCplus.
Nuclear, the 4GB Sandisk I believe is SDHC, so it will probably screw things up. The 8GB Samsung you could probably reformat on your PC.
If you have an SDHC and an SD USB reader, use the SD one, as the SDHC one might force you down to 2 GB.
Hey, it's just my guess from reading the specs.

My SanDisk 4GB Extreme III is a SDHC? I was sure i bought a SD only. It says SD on it....
As for my 8GB my PC detects it as only 2GB. Reformatted and again only 2GB. I know another way to fix it. Partition MagiC!!! I lost 6GB in partition space. And same with the other 4GB card. Once i partition it every 2GB it will make 3 cards in 1 . Well stay tuned and i will let you know how paritioning the space helped.

High Capacity Memory Cards

Hello,
I'm looking at buying an 8GB SDHC card for my Kaiser, and i was wondering, will the 8GB card have any effect on battery life??
Cheers,
Rob.
I'm no expert, but I don't see why it should. Its not like an 8gb storage card is an application- its simply storage. I haven't any difference since moving up from a 2GB memory card to an 8GB memory card....
But then again, thats just my humble opinion...
Cheers for the reply, i didn't think it would make any difference either.
Just wanted to check!!
where can i get a 32 gb . I know they make one.
There are no 32GB microSDHCs just yet -- you may be thinking of full size SDHC.

I've got a 16GB in mine and it works perfectly. I'll get a 32GB but want the price to drop before I do. They're still quite pricey.
16GB is suiting me fine. I have a seperate 8GB one for putting movies and stuff on. It just means I have to have CorePlayer installed on the device so I can switch cards and still play movies.
Edit:
Ignore the above comment by lude219. 128GB cards won't be available until next year at the earliest. 32GB is currently the largest on the market. There will be 64GB (and possibly 48GB) soon, but not yet.
Thank you johncmolyneux, I think I might wait a bit and get a 32gb just to be sure!
Thanks for your help dude.

Samsung expect their 32GB to be in the market by February according to their recent announcement, I expect Sandisk will want to be released for sale by then also.

is that because of hardware or software? i had an old HTC Excalibur that ran winmo 5.0 back in the day. got a 8 gig card that wouldn't read in it until i flashed it to winmo 6.5. after that, it read the card no problem. funny thing is the 'fine folks' over at T-Mobile assured me that nothing over 4GB would ever work in my phone.
so i wonder, with our devices being able to run winmo, android, different variations of linux, etc... could it be just a software problem?
The HTC HD2 can only hold up to a 32 gig 2.0 Micro SD card. Click the link for proof, notice the "Expansion" in the spec list, oh yeah this is straight from HTC.

interesting info
so i started surfing around, looking for more info on this topic. i found a thread from another forum citing some interesting conversation regarding the same issue. to quote from page 5 of that forum...
"What the SD 4.0 specification will add is another pin to SDXC cards which will enable the higher read/write speeds. The rest of the pins will still be present and will still act exactly like they used to. So SDXC cards will always be compatible with SDHC readers, you just won't be able to read/write from them at 300mbit/s. And that's where a firmware update can't change things; no firmware update will allow the camera to use an SDXC card at its full, currently-non-existent future speed because that extra pin interface won't be present.
'But a firmware update CAN add support for exFAT, so all the other benefits of SDXC can in fact be added to our cameras through a firmware update. These benefits include higher capacities, larger maximum file size, and faster file deleting (because that's an exFAT feature, not an SDXC feature).
'It should be noted that the higher capacities have nothing to do with exFAT. FAT32 can have volumes up to 2 TB in size. The 32GB limit on SDHC cards was artificially imposed by the SD 2.0 specification, and has now been lifted with SD 3.0. However, the larger maximum file size IS a benefit of exFAT, because files used to be limited to 4 GB on FAT32."
so i gotta think this will also apply to any other device that can physically run an SDHC card.
let the debate begin

Hmmmm interesting conversation there, I read all six pages by the way. The one guy seemed to be pretty sure of himself. But from what he said if you use a SDXC card that uses extFAT in a decice that does not support extFAT. It will reformat it with Fat 32 making it a regular SDHC card without the extra advantage of the higher speeds that a SDXC reader that does support extFAT can use.
right, that's what i got out of it too. but the big bonus there is that even with the reformat, the space on that card is still accessible, be it 'just' sdhc speeds. that's ok though, cuz that's what we're used to. i'd really like some of the xda developers to take a look at this and see what they can do.
on a somewhat related note, there's a program i use on my laptop called 'macdrive' which allows me to view previously unrecognized files and partitions which windows doesn't see naturally. this allows me to tri-boot (linux, mac, and windows) and modify each of those partitions from any one of the systems.
point here, is that even if there is initially a problem reading the data on a sdxc card, it seems that problem is only with the software not hardware and therefore can be modified.
if i could program i'd start experimenting myself.

This is very true, and I am in the same boot as you. I wish I had the dev knowledge and skills to start working on something for this, or a real dev could get there hands on this and see what is possible. I guess the only true way to put this to the test is for someone to get there hands on one of these beast of a SD card (64 to 128 gig what ) and stick it in the HD2 to see what it does.

HD2 Maximum storage card capacity?

I am still deliberating wether to get the HD2. One thing that worries me is the quite limited storage capacity with the microSD card. As far as I understand the microSD (SDHC) standard only supports up to 32GB capacities. I know 32GB is quite large, but I anticipate my needs will grow.
My question is - will HD2 be able to use the 64Gb, 128GB .... cards that come out probably one year from now.
Thanks for your help
Seeing 32GB cards aren't available yet, and we've been waiting for them for like 2 years, I'm pretty sure you'll have changed your HD2 before 64GB cards are here
But to the question, no idea. That would depend on whether drivers that support the new format extension are made available.
I believe 64GB is here in couple of months. Blackberry rumours are that new devices will come with support for 64GB microsd cards.
http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/32-64gb-micro-sd-cards-275113/
My friend ordered 2 usb sticks 64GB - 22USD each but I haven't seen them yet (I hope he gets them). That tells me that prices are still in freefall.
Sandisk is actually developing 128GB micorsd card: http://www.physorg.com/news143893844.html
I guess the problem is not with the sheer size of the microsd (ok that is important if you have a huge music library or movies or something else that needs to be on your phone all the time), but how fast it is while copying. If you put it in your phone and connect usb, how fast is it in disk mode? 20 MB/s?
HD2 has a microSDHD slot, which supports a maximum capacity of 32GB - or will it be able to use microSDXC cards? Is's probably more than a "firmware" upgrade from SDHC to SDXC.
I agree read and write speed are very important to - has anyone done any tests on the speed of the microSD slot?
20MB/s seems optimistic...
It's microSDHC... which means a maximum of 32GB.
microSDXC cards with more than 32GB will NOT work.

Well, SD to SDHC was a firmware upgrade away for many common controllers. But I've just done a little search and it seems that it might not be the case for SDHC to SDXC indeed.

It obviously depends a lot on the card used, some will take 3MB/s while some will take 20MB/s...
It does seem that it's a bit slower than a usual card reader, around 5MB/s with my class 6 8GB Sandisk card vs ~12 in a good card reader.
does HD2 support micro SDHC 64GB card?

Just check in Google and don´t let Yourself be misled by wishful thinking: 32 GB mSD cards were announced by Sandisk in Feb 2009 and still we have to wait for shipping them by expansys or easydevices.co.uk until end of May 2010, maybe June..........
Do You really think an ebay-offer of 64GB is serious ? It is only that You BELIEVE in this offer since You badly want it ! It is like believing in a religion because You HOPE that someone else might tackle with Your problems and hopes. But there is NO such other, because it does not EXIST, as well as 64 GB mSD do not exist and will not exist for the next years.
Nobody will develop them, ´cause there will be no market for them ! When 64 GB + mSD cards can be built at a reasonable prize nobody would buy them ´cause everyone of the possible customers (esp. the people HERE = early adopters = tech freaks) will already have changed their devices 2-3 times to devices with mSDXC-standards (such as HTC HD3, HD4, HD5 .......... )
Don´t BELIEVE and HOPE, just KNOW and be REALISTIC: there will be no 64GB mSD-card .............

I just wanted to look for a bigger card than the stock 16GB, even a 32GB would do, nothing particular about 64GB, nor is looking for higher capacity card any pressing need.
I am least bothered to think so much about manufacturing trouble before looking for a higher capacity card, I dont give a damn about manufacturing trouble if any.
I just searched higher capacity card than 16GB and checked at one which happened to be 64GB.
There is no need to involve big things like hope or belief in something so unimportant or cheap as a SD card.

[Q] 32GB Cards...possible or possible soon?

Hi Everyone,
I have read the extensive thread on compatible SD cards, but just wanted to open another thread asking if there are any known 32GB cards working with this phone or if you guys have heard of any officially certified 32GB cards coming soon. I am DESPERATE to have more storage on my phone, but will not buy a card unless I know it is working for sure and want to go for the 32 as soon as possible. Thanks!
Well I can only speak on my personal experience but I've been using a Kingston Class4 32GB card since November 8th and have never had any issues. And I'm sitting at around 12GB of usage (music, videos, etc).
I'm not saying this is gauranteed to work - just relaying what my personal experience has been.
Use at your own risk...
My Kingston 32GB C4 card lagged really bad once I got over 10GB. There are so many conflicting reports like this. Using any card is a bit of a gamble at this stage.

I also have had a 32GB Kingston Class 4 card in my Focus and have been using it since November 8th. I have had no problems at all.
Total Storage 37.07 GB
Available Storage 22.20 GB
So I am using 15GB of my storage for music and such and have had no problems whatsoever.

I'd be curious to see what happens when you get over 16GB. It seems like 8GB cards are okay; maybe there's something that freaks out when you use more external storage than internal.
I also would be interested in what happens once you fill it past 16GB. Would one of you be willing to give it a shot for us? Thanks for the replies everyone!
I have a 16GB Scandisc card of clas 2, I put that in and reastarted the phone. Nothing happened.....is that how you know if it is working or not???
Thanks
i would like to try this one but the price is a little too steep right now and it wouldn't be good if it didn't work.... paid less for the focus itself. http://lexar.com/products/lexar-high-speed-microsdhc-card-performance-kit?category=90

Go to Settings -> About and it will tell you how much storage you have. If it still says 8GB, then you still need to format the phone.

I recieved that card from Amazon early this week but so far all I've done is benchmark it. The card is pretty impressive with sequential and random read-rates but its write speeds are about the same as the Sandisk Class 2 I currently have in my Focus. Right now I'm waffling on wether to go through the process of swapping the cards and reinstalling everything or waiting until the NoDo update comes out. If I do make the swap I'll probably post on the working sd cards thread
samsung is dropping their 32gb card this month...
