Guys...can't anyone make an app to navigate the power menu with volume buttons so that we can do a soft reboot in case of a screen freeze in Zenfone 5.

This is not a thing that can be bypassed, it's very ramdom, and crashs all Android system, so there's no way a app can intercept this.
I'm talking about an app that can at least make the power menu accessible through volume rocker keys so that a soft reboot can easily ve performed in case of a screen freeze...

As I said, the whole Android system freezes, not the screen only (one example of this is if you are listening music or watching a video, the audio freezes too). So there's no way to access power menu, the only thing we can do is a forced shutdown.
Well the incoming calls still show and downloads still continues...even installation...so...maybe the whole system does not freeze I think...

In my phone, all system, apps and tasks freeze. If I wait 2 minutes, the device reboots automatically.

I tried this, but the freeze frequency increased. But maybe work in OP phone.
That's a really risky process as I don't know if my AICP rom will support anwarmov's kernel.
I think actually the issue comes from some problem in partitions...my screen freeze started when during flashing some error occured...u know...the error shows during flashing any file...
The flash becomes successful though...
Also pc fails to recognize the device after the error started occuring...
This one is the error.

But now I've restored my backup and the phone is stuck at the LG logo on boot. Oy.

Download AutoRec.apk app for your device’s model Make sure you choose the right model.
Install AutoRec (you can find it here) http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=13763 app like any other APK file You might need to mark the check box of “Unknown sources“.
Open AutoRec app and grant root permission to continue.
It will display a warning message “Modifying partitions is dangerous and we won’t take any responsibility for possible damages you or the app may do to your system. Please use at your own risk.”
Tap on “Yes” to continue
Tap on “Flash recovery” to install TWRP custom recovery Don’t touch your phone while flashing.
After finishing installation, it will display “Recovery installed succesfully. You may now reboot to recovery“ (now you can find many apps in app store which easily reboot into recovery in a touch without using conventional volume+down key)

CSE would probably be the way to go. Try doing a normal bootup and connect your phone to your Pc. See if the pc will recognize it and then try to backup your data.
If that fails and the data is important, I would try the Normal method and hope that it will be successful. If not then CSE.

NP. And after normal flash, even if it fails to boot, again try to see if the computer will recognize it to retrieve your data before you must use the CSE method

Hello XDA
In the last month or so, every time i get a call, my screen will not turn on. To answer the call i must press the power button, pull down the call notification and press answer. The phone is ringing and vibrating until i press the power button.
I am using the newest nougat (7.1.1) on my Nexus 6p. (i use sec. 9 of this guide to update my phone.)
After searching on every forum using google and usually get old posts for old and not updated devices I've decided to post here.
Since i'm not new to android and consider myself not a noob, I came across this in the notification settings:
The phone app is shown under "Shown silently" and tagged as Silenced:
TinyPic
And I cant change this "silenced" mode.. as you can see here:
TinyPic
**Sorry for the images, i cant upload because i have less than 10 posts
What should i do? Factory reset is my least favorite option. Is there anther way to change these settings?
Thank you so much!
I am having the same issue over the past month or so. Am running the stock nougat beta version with locked bootloader. Other call services like Skype, WhatsApp, etc. wake up the phone screen in incoming calls.

You might want to consider using a custom dialer instead of the stock phone app. You could also try clearing the cache for that particular app and if that doesn't work try wiping the system cache. You can also download the apk for that app and reinstall over the factory version, which might reset the settings.

Rereading how you updated your phone I think you made a mistake in not doing a clean install. You might be using an old version of the phone app that isn't compatible with Nougat. I don't see the same selections as you under my phone app. I would definitely download the latest apk for the phone app and install it over the version you are using,

I like ExDialer because there are a lot of themes but the Pro Key is 3.99. I haven't used any other third party dialers so I can't recommend another one.
Hello again!
For everyone arriving for this post, i just want to say the only solution i found to be working is the factory reset.
I had no choice because i missed a lot of calls. and every alternative to the phone app wasn't in my taste.
Tnx jhs39 for the help!

OK, so I have a 6p with 3.3.1 fbe 4core and I'm personally still seeing the device fail to decrypt and boot to OS. Even without a password.
When this happens and it happens very often I need to format data.
I eventually would like to have this as a backup phone though with this happening it doesn't seem like its going to happen.
P.S. the disable encryption/verity does not help any. For me at least .
So, I'm asking you all, hopefully for any suggestions or answers.
What can I do to get this device into working order?

Hey, again!
When flashing magisk and still using the proper fbe twrp 3.3.1.img, any idea why my phone won't boot?
P.S. download mode is still enabled.
same issue after battery died
I believe I'm having a similar issue now ...
The device won't boot to OS, goes directly to recovery. Download mode was off so i enabled it using the "fastboot oem ramdump enable" command. However, I'm still stuck?!!
The recovery won't accept my password and I have no way to access (my data) anything. This happened after the phone shutdown when the battery drained.
edit: I cannot even turn off the phone ... it just keeps going back to recovery
Update: I managed to decrypt the data - seems i was entering the wrong pass the whole time - so i'm taking a backup now
update 2: Finally resolved ... it seems that my volume down button (both volume buttons are flaky since the rocker fell a month ago) may have been stuck, causing phone to immediately enter the recovery mode. I managed to boot but fiddling around with the volume buttons. CASE CLOSED
Please help.
