Can you get into download mode? To do this, power off the device and then hold the volume up button and connect the charger while continuing to hold the volume up Button until you see the download mode

CSE would probably be the way to go. Try doing a normal bootup and connect your phone to your Pc. See if the pc will recognize it and then try to backup your data.
If that fails and the data is important, I would try the Normal method and hope that it will be successful. If not then CSE.

NP. And after normal flash, even if it fails to boot, again try to see if the computer will recognize it to retrieve your data before you must use the CSE method

I rooted a friends phone and installed TWRP recovery for him. He decided that he wanted to take the OTA so I removed TWRP and installed the stock recovery image. After doing this the phone hasn't been able to find the OTA update. I was just wondering if I might not have gotten the stock recovery to install correctly.

Could be a bad ROM download. Try wiping data, cache and dalvik cache in CWM and booting up. If that doesnt work try sideloading another ROM .zip in (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559200
Also, please don't create multiple thread on the same topic, it won't give you a reply any faster and will just clog up the Q&A forum. XDA is not a quick helpline, it is a forum.

This is not a thing that can be bypassed, it's very ramdom, and crashs all Android system, so there's no way a app can intercept this.
I'm talking about an app that can at least make the power menu accessible through volume rocker keys so that a soft reboot can easily ve performed in case of a screen freeze...

As I said, the whole Android system freezes, not the screen only (one example of this is if you are listening music or watching a video, the audio freezes too). So there's no way to access power menu, the only thing we can do is a forced shutdown.
Well the incoming calls still show and downloads still continues...even installation...so...maybe the whole system does not freeze I think...

I tried this, but the freeze frequency increased. But maybe work in OP phone.
That's a really risky process as I don't know if my AICP rom will support anwarmov's kernel.
I think actually the issue comes from some problem in partitions...my screen freeze started when during flashing some error occured...u know...the error shows during flashing any file...
The flash becomes successful though...
Also pc fails to recognize the device after the error started occuring...
This one is the error.

Did you ask in the carbon thread?
Chances are it was a wipe issue.
Did you wipe in stock or aosp recovery?
You can always get back to stock by flashing the stock firmware.
I did this via booting twrp then flashing to both slots.
So unlock storage in twrp, then go flash the ROM, reboot recovery and it'll change slot.
Then flash it again.
Then reboot
Should boot
If not boot to recovery again (not twrp) and wipe system and data.
Should work then..
I didn't have that issue when carbon myself
If push comes to shove there's a tool to get back to stock @meffles has suggested it a few times but I've not used it myself, although he has and he swears by it.
Probably a good way to go and won't be hard.

Meffles is your man or check in the thread..
Don't you connect in EDL mode?
Think it's like a lower level recovery mode that you get to without having the cable connected. The screen will be blank..
Then connect and if should show..
Least that's my loose understanding of it.
What does the thread say??
Ps: looks like the application has stopped responding..
Make sure you have ran it as an administrator and that all pre requisites are installed that the application requires..

Turn your phone off, and make sure you don't have any cables connected. Hold volume up + volume down for 20 seconds, then plug in the usbc cable whilst still holding the volume buttons. You should see it spring into life. If not, then you need to check your drivers, which is covered in the link I provided you with.
I've taken it to a shop for repair
