Hi guys,
Have been following the development sub for the S7 Edge, and while I may have been following it, I could've missed some stuffs.
I'll be getting a S7 Edge International model, which to my knowledge, has a working recovery currently, and is able to be rooted with Xposed. What I missed was does this procedure trip the Knox counter? I'd like to remain 0x0 for Knox as much as possible to retain Samsung Pay and for warranty purposes.
Similarly, does anyone know if taking the phone out for a quick swim in the sea, with the phone not going more than 1.5m into the water harm the phone? I've read of certain issues with the ports due to corrosion?

Root / TWRPS trips Knox. So far, no way around (I'm in the same boat, only gonna root if Knox is not effected).
I would not advice to go swimming with the phone. While it is indeed certified, I see it more like a fail safe. Always expect that there will be issues (as some already reported: issues with the charging port, damaged phones etc.)

Would love to see a knox trip free root soon!
On that note, seems like a waste to get this phone then, mostly getting it due to the water resistant feature without those rubber caps, and requiring additional accessories.
i would suggest to you not to root you GS7 edge, mine has been malfunction and its acting weird when i try the apps to root the phone. My Bad

Salt water and electronics, even those that are water resistant, do not mix. The salt is extra corrosive. This is especially concerning with the open ports. If they were sealed, perhaps no water would enter, but they aren't, and it will.

It is water resistant (I actually watched some netflix in the shower ), however, the salts from the sea can have a bad effect on the phone.
A sea contains heavy concentration of salts, which is a very good conductor that has a lot of dissociated ions... so there can be a lot of of electrolysis reactions that can accelerate corrosion in salt water.
So with regards to salt water, would that mean that if I were to fall into the sea with my phone with me, rinsing the phone in clean, still water would help?

Don't get your hopes up - you won't see a knox trip free root until the Snapdragon series gets it. (if ever)
This is because knox trip free roots generally work by modifying the system partition and live policy editing to avoid touching the boot image.
Previously, modifying the boot or recovery image was the only way to trip knox, however...
With dm-verity, Samsung is able to check for a modified system partition at boot time, and trip the knox warranty bit if it's modified in any way.

I have an at&t galaxy s4 that's still under warranty for another couple of months. Recently, I made the mistake of placing my phone on a kitchen counter with a few drops of oil (room temperature) on it. I noticed it as soon as I picked the phone back up, and the oil definitely crept into the phone's loud speaker at the back. Luckily, this is the only part of the phone that it got to.
The loudspeaker sounds much worse now - not so 'loud' any more, and sounds very muffled. It is definitely damaged. I've set the phone in a cup of rice, although I'm not really sure how effective this method will be for oil. Is there anything else I can do to fix the problem myself?
If not, what I'm wondering is if at&t/samsung will have a way of finding out that it was damaged by oil (liquid); because if they do, I will get charged full price for whatever replacement they send me.
Any tips on how to proceed?
Rubber isn't going to do any good. I would try push and hold a paper towel against the speaker and hope out wicks the oil away.
In regards the Samsung/at&t, of course the should charge you. You did the damage why should they have to pay

Regarding the warranty, let me elaborate the reason why I'm considering whether to send it in or not:
If at&t/samsung decide that my phone is not covered under the warranty, their course of action is to return my phone to me, un-repaired, and charge me full price (read: $579) for a certified replacement S4 (read: not brand new, without battery or cables or chargers) that they will have sent me before hand. I hardly think that this fair. I'm not saying it's not my fault that the speaker is damaged, but I'd at least like to find out what the chances are of getting this minor issue fixed under warranty without having to shell out full price for a re-certified replacement of a year-old phone.

I'm guessing he meant rice, not rubber. There's not really another option, besides attempting repair yourself or through a third party.

So apparently at&t has Device Support Centers where I can take my phone in, and they'll diagnose it on the spot and let me know if my warranty will cover it or not. I'll keep you guys posted on how that goes ...
I thought my phone was water proof and it would be a good idea to watch GOT underwater.

3 days later out of the rice bag my phone loads the Samsung Logo, vibrates once then reboots.
I tried putting it in recovery mode, this causes the phone to reboot as well.
I tried putting the phone in download mode, this works.
I found the PIT and official firmware from this site.
I tried using Odin with the firmware first. It complete installed, the progress bar atleast then rebooted.
Once rebooted it showed the recovery booting... for long than usual, then went went into a recovery booting loop.
So I went back to download mode and tried to repartition with Odin with SM-G900T.pit
It immediately said FAILED.
Now I'm stuck.. I tried taking the phone back but they knew it was water related because of some red water mark.
Do I have any other options?

Hell, flashing pit won't help if you water damaged your phone. And quite frankly, you kinda deserved it, it isn't water proof, it's water resistant.

Any way, I posted this thread because I assumed that since the phone was dry that the damage could possibly only be software related. The screen,battery and download prompt all work fine. I'm wondering if anyone has ever encountered a similar situation before (water related or not) If mature people could response with information that can help other unfortunate people in my situation.

Sorry, but I kinda agree with dandroid13 because you intentionally caused your phone harm. You should have researched first the difference between water-resistant and water-proof. You should have used a water-proof case if you plan on bringing it under water for a long time. But just out of curiosity, how long did you submerged your S5 in water?
The least you could do is to remove the battery and let them all dry for at least 48 hours, focusing a fan on them would be better. Do not attempt to use the phone again. After 2 days, try everything else and see if you would still salvage your phone.
I'm stuck at this point.

I didn't intentionally try to damage my phone.
I was showing off what I thought was a cool feature to my family the first day I got the phone.

I think people are being very rude here, while I am sure that in this particular case the problem hardware related and cannot be repaired by flashing anything, these things are not suppose to happen to a phone that is IP67 certified!
If the phone has been properly handled (battery cover properly closed, back cover properly fitted) then this should not have happened and saying warranty is voided should not hold any grounds! They are advertising this phone as IP67 so they have to live up to that promise and shouldn't be able to just always say it is due to a user error.
I understand that it can be difficult to prove that the user has closed the ports properly, but Samsung should either have built in a system check if everything was closed correctly, they shouldn't have marketed this phone as IP67 or should have known this could happen and simply repair the phones if the exact error couldn't have been found.
I have bought this phone because of a lot of features and IP67 was a big part of that! If this is how Samsung deals with these kinds of situations they will have a hard time dealing with angry customers here in the Netherlands.

I'm just going to ignore the people being jerks on here.
Note: I didn't watch the whole episode, not even 3 minutes
Anyway here's an update on my progress.
I left my phone plugged into the charger, I was getting a battery overheated Icon, (the battery isn't defective, its just that the phone wasn't charging the battery so there is damage in the USB plugin port) So what I did was completely unplug my phone and took out the battery. Held the power button for 10 seconds, put the battery back in and charger and repeated this process 5 times and now I'm able to charge my battery again.
Now if I can re-partition and reinstall the firmware I may have fully fixed my phone.....
I have a few options at this point, wait for the phone to dry more
Send to Samsung and pay them to replace parts (May be expensive)
Find a local place that fixes these issues (Radioshack)
I've decided to goto Radioshack first since it's just up the street to see what they'll say. If they fix it great.. if not I'll try to put it back in rice for a couple of days and work on re-partitioning somehow. If I can't do that then I'll just send it to Samsung.

Samsung wouldn't care. This phone is water resistant not water proof. If the phone has had some physical damage due to that then you need to take it to samsung cause nobody can help you here
unless it is software related. It Is that simple. Google IP67 for reference too.

I would suggest you search that yourself: Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m
This means it can be submerged according to IP67. I hope you drop your phone in water and it dies while you have done nothing wrong, you will be talking differently then.
To get back to your fixing the problem:
I hope flashing your phone will solve it, but I am afraid it will not, I cannot imagine how software gets screwed up by water damage. Though if it does solve it, great work!

I have. And I'm smarter than the both of you as my phone is well protected do keep on wishing. Just because it's IP67 I won't go under water just to watch a TV show. But you can do whatever you want with your phone, just don't come here and talk nonsense.

What kind of a child are you and what meds are you on? You assume too much, I haven't done anything like that, but if it were ever to happen and the phone breaks, I can comfortably know that Samsung will be the one to pay for repairs since consumer rights are pretty clear here in the Netherlands. No idea what makes you think you are smarter than I am since you do not even know what you are responding to here.

Yeah, I realize that more than likely it's a hardware issue. But since the only operational path I have is Download mode, I just want to exhaust all options and at the least find clues on what is actually failing
Well I'm on my way to RadioShack. Let's see what they say.

This shows you are making assumptions without reading what is in front of you, again, you search IP67 since you are the one that doesn't know what it means, from previous experiences with you, you assume to know something you do not.

So I've had a rather unlucky turn with my S5. It's only a few weeks old, and a few days ago I dropped it off the sofa- maybe 2 foot off the ground.
When I picked it up, the screen was black, except for the status/notification bar. The phone was almost completely unresponsive (other than the screen turning on to display just this bar)
I ended up pulling the battery. Resinerting the battery found me in a bootloop. Pulling and reinserting again led me to an ODIN screen saying it can't find PBL1. It also states that Knox is now 0x1.
So it appears It's possible to drop your phone and trigger Knox. I assume I've just managed to damage the flash memory in an unfortunate way?
The problem I'm going to have is that Knox 0x1 means my insurance won't take it. Urg!
Is this anything you've seen before? I'm wondering whether I'll be able to win this one over or if I've just been unlucky and... Game Over so to speak.
Note: Device was previously unmodified!
I think first thing I'd do would be inform Samsung about what happened and that you did not flash any custom firmwares to trigger KNOX, see what they say
If you get no luck that side, I'd be more inclined to think you've dislodged a cable by dropping it rather than damaging flash memory, so if you have the confidence, Id open it up and push all cables back into their sockets securely even if they don't appear loose
My tablet (TF101) is well known for pulling it's display cable out when dropped as it's wrapped around the heavy screen, which shifts when it hits the floor and pulls the lead out - open > reinsert > close > fixed

basically they may try and say the knox flag is there cause of a modification and thats why part of ur phone is broken but thats crap, quoet that to them and they have no choice.

Moving to the states? Have to admit, it does sound slightly less grey and miserable than the NE-UK, I've considered moving abroad, but even with all it's faults, would miss home, best of luck with your move

Hm, What happened in here?
Little update: After a clean firmware reset through Kies, and using the phone for a couple of days, it froze again, this time the screen is showing "System: Custom." and would not boot past the Samsung Logo. A little note: it couldn't find SBL1, not PBL as I said previously.
I'm heading into the shop and see how they handle this. I doubt they'll believe it. (My wife doesn't, I normally tinker but decided to leave this phone alone for a while.)
*Shrug* Let's stamp them with scary laws (that may or may not be true, but the manager probably isn't going to know.)
So I have a note 3 n9005 that is two years old. When I bought it I purchased 2 years of extra waranty (so I had 4 years in total) which also gave me premium service. Means that whenever my phone gets defective and I go for a warranty repair, if they do not fix my phone in 5 business days I get all my money back (the initial price I paid back in 2014). I updated to a s7 edge and gave the note to my girlfriend, but I didn't take good care of the phone: the chrome bezel is all washed out, the screen has a few micro scratches etc. So I'm thinking of intentionally shortening the life of the phone somehow. Apart from the battery, the phone still works like new and it still performs very decently compared to today's standards (kudos to samsung for this durable phone lol).
So is there anything I can do to "brake" my phone, but it would still be covered by warranty?
I'm thinking of running a very intensive app non stop while keeping it charging. Maybe excesive heat will do the job in a week or so...
If it's an accidental warranty, you can always drop the phone and tell them that you accidentally dropped it . OR you can try Hard Bricking the phone after rooting and flashing some wrong bootloader through odin so that the phone doesnt even boot up. After that, just tell the warranty guys that phone suddenly stopped working.

It's not accidental warranty, it's like a normal warranty just extended for two more years. Won't a brick of any kind leave any signs that it was rooted, or the software was changed? If they find out its my fault they'll likely reject the waranty.

I accidentally emmc bricked my Note 1 [N7000] before warranty expired, and the phone didnt show any boot screen in any way (Completely dead). And the guys at Samsung changed motherboard (i think). But I was lucky in my case.
I have a better solution to your bezel paint peel off problem. Just buy this case, its really awesome and it covers the bezel and replaces the lame old battery cover with pure aluminium .

Hi team. My S7 edge has been rooted plenty of times, tons of custom roms, etc etc. I have owned the phone for 23 months now. The battery is dying, home button peeled, usb dropping connection, and I just found warranty card stating that is still one month under warranty. But due to rooting havoc I inflicted to my phone, knox is deeply tripped. I am trying to find a way to break my phone so badly that it is not even possible to go to download mode so that the service centre cannot check knox status.
Any ideas? Removing cable while flashing bootloader? Undercharging the battery to kill it? Did anyone try?
extract sboot.bin from firmware and flash it with odin very quickly, when it is in middle or between flashing remove the cable immediately and hopefully your phone will die repeat this again and again also try with cm.bin too. You have to hard brick your phone don't try to damage battery or break anything physically it will void your warranty straight away.
PS: I think knox will show tripped if they did't replaced the motherboard and used another method to flash it and you have to blame them that they did it not you.:victory::victory:
It seems to be difficult to hard brick the phone. I tried many times - in Odin, I selected BL button, selected the BL archive from stock firmware, then during flashing I was disconnecting the phone. I tried it several times at several stages of flashing (once i hit the sboot.bin) but the download mode still works and displays warranty void 1. I can't kill off that download mode. I am starting to worry that it is hardcoded into some ROM module that just cannot be written and so it is running from hardware. This factory flashing through odin is doing everything with NAND memory that is read-writable but it looks that the download mode "partition" is not writable at all. Despite I break bootloader or whatever else, i just cannot destroy download mode, hence it is impossible to hard brick the phone. I was thinking of overclocking the CPU to destroy it but i think it would be too obvious.
If you are based in the EU, then Samsung needs to repair under warranty regardless whether you have rooted your phone or not.

Anyway I flashed stock rom and brought it to the carrier's store for repair. Let's see.

Well, it is the law...... a vendor can't just invalidate your statutory warranty, because they don't like what you did........

If they refuse (which they probably will) take them to court. Just to be clear, you need to take whoever supplied the phone to court, as you'll have warranty with them.

Use a USB killer. Simple.
how about give it to somebody who really could use a phone?
Put 12v ping from old pc psu on usb 5v and +data (red and green wire in cable) rail ,it will kill it,work with my old LG G4 whenn LG wont replace via rma screen with red retentions,fry it on 12v for few miliseconds do not for longer time or will be start smoking

they totally repaired my phone, no questions asked. Replaced the battery, entire front panel with screen, home button, and they even replaced the chassis (metal frame) so it looks like new. A pity that the back cover remained old, scratched.

At most, all he will accomplish with an USB Killer stick is to fry the contacts on the USB port if it's not securely plugged in. The S7 is immune to the USB killer stick.

I confirm it's waterproof as before. Since repair, I had it with me several times in wellness tub, sauna, jacuzzi (warm water - more risk to "loosen" the adhesive), also took some slo-mo videos during water sliding and there is no sign of water / drops / mist in the phone. I am taking it to the sea in 3 weeks (for the 3rd summer in a row). The phone is holding together like new. It also suffered a few drops - no damage.
Just a note - USB charging is not working several hours after bath. It must dry completely. So bring a wireless charger if you plan to bathe with your s7 edge.
The best phone in my life. It's so durable. Although.. note 8 would be a nice upgrade
I have been using my phone for 2 years last month I thought will replace battery, in local Samsung shop battery replacement cost £60 together with the battery but I thought I will try it myself. Bought battery for £20
Few tools to open the phone, hair dryer. Tube of silicone, double sided tape.
Local shops are filled up with spare parts for s7 edge back plate motherboards etc and they're cheap in case if I damaged anything.
It took me around 2 hours to replace the battery and haven't damaged anything, was thinking will test if my phone is still waterproof. Well Samsung says originally I can put my phone underwater 0.5m deep for 30 min and it should still work.
I did extended water resistance test. Used fishing rod and there's lake just behind my house. Attached my phone and dropped it I think around 4m deep and went back home and came back in the evening around 8 hours later thinking either fish ate my phone or surely it died, pulled it back and there were few messages on the screen, someone texted me while my phone was on the bottom of the lake.
I guess I have waterproofed my phone better than Samsung

The back glass is extremely easy to repair though, I'd know since i've replaced it myself on my S7E about 5 times now. Usually a new OEM glass battery cover replacement only costs about 20 bucks.
