Hi
I would like to only use my fingerprint same with previous model. But with the S7, each time I switch off/on the phone, I am first prompted to enter a password, then the fingerprint will work till the next switch off/reboot. Is there a way to take rid of that password? I would like it to be prompted only in case fingerprint does not work.
Thanks
Phil
Marshmallow feature I believe. Nexus 6P does the same.

I think this is for extra security when the device has been switched off. I don't see a problem with entering your password once every restart, it takes a few seconds.

Galaxy S5 does the same thing on custom Marshmallow ROMs
Thx guys! So, new android feature... Cheers
Phil
Yup. This actually good. As a tech you'd be surprised how many people forgot those passwords.

I have stupidly forgotten the PIN on my Nexus 4. I would really rather not reset the phone and lose data. Are there any ways to bypass the lockscreen or to backup the data?
Thanks,
Liam
I sincerely hope not.
you can keep trying to unlock and when it locks you need to unlock the phone with you google account password you used to activate the phone. you will still need you sim pin to be able to use your sim card but your provider can unlock that one for you

LOL! I see where you're coming from. But there might be some time-consuming, hacky way to do it.

The 'forgot pattern' button only appears with pattern unlock. There is no 'forgot PIN' button in Android.
Keep entering wrong pattern. After many tries it will block you and you will be able to use reset password feature.

Are you sure this is true? Or is that just a guess?
I've got up to 65 tries and there is still no button.

Well. Then you have no choice but to reset. I'm sorry!
This wouldn't have been the situation if you would've been rooted.

Not sure if it's just not updated for Marshmallow but it's signing itself out every other time I needed it

Yeah it's been doing the same here

I just set it up to use the fingerprint scanner. It's so easy to login, I want it to always logout.
Akellar - looks like they just patched it. The app would sign out if the fingerprint scanner read your finger wrong
Debauched sloth - you can have it sign out auto with a short time window after unlocking

There was an update today that fixed this issue. If there was an incorrect fingerprint detection, or some problem, it would sign you out entirely and you would need to login with a password. Definitely not intended behavior.
The most recent update fixed this behavior, and I couldn't be happier. That was killing me haha. I hate entering my password, as it's long and takes 2 hands to do because of symbols.
Yeah same

Nexus 6P takes well over one mine to bootup compare to my Note 5 20 second.
what could be the cause of this? could it be from android 6 ?
Mine does, too, but I don't know why boot time would ever be a concern to me.

Not a concern at all but when I rooted my nexues, flash recovery or update to 6.0.1 I noticed this. Since this is my first nexus I was wondering why would it take this long.

Verified boot takes an extra ten seconds, from what I hear, just to show you that message. So maybe it's an unlocked bootloader?
I'm guessing device encryption has something to do with it.

Phone is being decrypted at each boot. That's normal, nothing to worry about.

I have an AT&T model and after the update I still can't unlock my phone via fingerprint. Are all US versions missing this feature?

Apparently it is working fine for international models. I have the option to use fingerprints to unlock my device but it absolutely will not work

Works just fine for me and I am using a US version. Silly question, but have you gone through the process of registering your print with your phone?
Also, you can't unlock using a fingerprint after a reboot but you should be able to any other time.

Yep, I had the fingerprint set up right but I failed to set my secure lock setting as it was set to lock after 10 mins. I was testing it immediately after rebooting. It works now with the proper lock time set, lol

Same here, I've got four fingerprints set up & it's not working for me. I've tried setting the fingerprints up several times & once after a reboot, still no go.

Don't know what I did, but the fingerprint scanner works now. After I swipe the lockscreen, it asks me for pin or fingerprint.

Hurry up before they close sign ups.
If you don't know how to register, simply download the Samsung beta program from the galaxy apps store (not play store) and then follow the prompts.
I hope you guys find this helpful
Finally!

Mine works fine without the wipe.
I was just sharing my experience as I just got the phone the day before. I had the phone all set up it was working fine on Android 6.0.1. I upgraded to the beta for nougat Android 7.0 and immediately my phone kept rebooting every 30 seconds or little bit longer. Once I realized the data I have not had any issues at all.

I had massive restart loop every 30 seconds yesterday. Have been troubleshooting. Ultimately had to rewipe again, to get it to work.

I downloaded the app this afternoon, did the registration, went into my setting and checked for an update and it downloaded nougat. The one thing I have found is that Bluetooth sucks! Seriously my music breaks up with it just in my pocket and I'm wearing Bluetooth headphones. Then I took it out of my pocket and put it on the counter and I can't get 5 feet away from the phone and the music breaks up again. Prior to the update I could go to the gym, put my phone down and be a good 40 feet away and it would still work fine.

Is there a way to keep the phone's screen from coming on when a text message comes in?
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanks to this thread I installed the beta Nougat OS.
Nothing bad so far. I did NOT wipe or remove data.
So far, I really like it. The SoTP meter says it's faster. Only thing that doesn't work so far is my Agenda Widget. Love the improved AOD. Battery seems to last a little longer, but not enough experience to say definitively. I did notice that the phone was warm when at 100% this morning. Haven't seen that since the update that stopped us charging to 100% (even though the display said it was).
The options in Settings are better- much better control of notifications.
I'll post more as I discover it.

Sprint users were part of the beta too, so it shouldn't be like rollouts in the past. Although I don't understand why we've been testing 7.0 and the final is supposed to be 7.1.1, unless Sprint stays on 7.0.

If sammy sends them 7.1.1 them that's what we will get. 7.1.1 isn't that much different from 7.0 just a few features added like app menu short cuts which wouldnt take much for them to add in the final release .I really dnt get how beta is over with all bugs not fixed. I personality still have an issue with Youtube videos not working after some time. Notification tones stop working after some time. No factory reset or caches clear has fixed this in the whole beta process.
