I have stupidly forgotten the PIN on my Nexus 4. I would really rather not reset the phone and lose data. Are there any ways to bypass the lockscreen or to backup the data?
Thanks,
Liam
I sincerely hope not.
you can keep trying to unlock and when it locks you need to unlock the phone with you google account password you used to activate the phone. you will still need you sim pin to be able to use your sim card but your provider can unlock that one for you

LOL! I see where you're coming from. But there might be some time-consuming, hacky way to do it.

The 'forgot pattern' button only appears with pattern unlock. There is no 'forgot PIN' button in Android.
Keep entering wrong pattern. After many tries it will block you and you will be able to use reset password feature.

Are you sure this is true? Or is that just a guess?
I've got up to 65 tries and there is still no button.

Well. Then you have no choice but to reset. I'm sorry!
This wouldn't have been the situation if you would've been rooted.

Hi, I just got this phone a few days ago and decided earlier to add a passcode for security.
After I added it and close my screen and open I put in the same code I used but it didn't work?
So now i'm really really nervous not knowing what to do.
Can someone please help me?
My phone isn't rooted yet, so its pure stock. Ahhh!!
After failing a few times you'll have to enter your gmail password and then it will unlock.

Guess you missed this part of the article
" To protect your SIM card with a PIN, go to Settings > Security > SIM Card Lock > Set Up SIM Card Lock. Tick the checkbox for the “Lock SIM Card” option. You’ll be asked for the default SIM PIN, which should have been provided to you by your network operator. Do not input the wrong PIN more than thrice, or else you could lock yourself out of your SIM and will need to input the PUK code. "

Something strange is going on with my N4, every time I try to open my settings it just closes it again almost instantly. Also I've noticed that if I turn off wifi it turns itself back on straight away and then it goes into silent mode for a second (speaker symbol with dash through it) then back to full volume. I've tried restarting it and uninstalling recent apps. I am thinking about doing a factory reset but don't want to if I can help it... But I can't anyway because I can't get into settings! Nothing shows up in virus scans. Screen briefly flashes black regularly too. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Unfortunately you will have to wipe EVERYTHING on your device to fix this issue.
For now press and hold the power button, press and hold the power off option.
You should see a safe mode option, press OK and the device will boot to safe mode.
In that stage check the settings if it still works.

Thanks, do you know what has caused this problem?

No idea, probably some settings or kernel bug.
Did it work?, if so then reboot to get off safe mode and see if it works.

I can get the settings to stay open in safe mode but still same problem when I restart it again. Should I do a factory reset?

Most likely an app is doing this, yes try factory resetting.

Did you installed an antitheft app?? Usually they try to make the settings persistent when in locked to Help phone recovery mode which usually gets activated by changing the SIM card
A factory reset should fix that in most cases

What you said makes sense. So, just for the future reference. Should I uninstall my anti-theft app before changing sim card? Will this prevent if from happening? Thanks!

Hi i cant open settings in my phone as well. I tried safe mode and that didnt work as well. Could you kindly help
I have seen this video of someone running their shift without a battery installed, he never actually explains the process but mentions the BIOS lock that disables the device when no battery is present or battery level warning.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up-G3bqdN_w&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Anyone have any idea how to achieve this? I have emailed the videos creator with no luck -_-

So no one has a clue, that's OK, does anyone have an ideas? Is it possible to hard wire it to accept no battery? Is it true there could be a software block in place?
Just spit balling? This forum gets plenty of traffic, just no one willing to throw some ideas out :/

Mine works anyway with no accu. I used to replace my accu for a full one on the net so it wouldn't turn off.
