Guess you missed this part of the article
" To protect your SIM card with a PIN, go to Settings > Security > SIM Card Lock > Set Up SIM Card Lock. Tick the checkbox for the “Lock SIM Card” option. You’ll be asked for the default SIM PIN, which should have been provided to you by your network operator. Do not input the wrong PIN more than thrice, or else you could lock yourself out of your SIM and will need to input the PUK code. "

I was not getting data at all after I got a new micro Sim for my n4. I waited a few hours to let things kick in, but nope.
So I went into setting and turn off and on "data enable", and ON then OFF for "use 2g only" "data roaming"
Then finally enable and disable airplane mode. I think I did it twice and it finally work. I did not mess with the APN.
Basically, I was just trying to refresh it to let it search for data. This isn't a solution, but worth a try.
First iam not a pro.
In a sim free phone I get a message says:
There is no sim.
I tried to change sims to other providers and still the same.
Does any one know if I need to chenge the options or else?
Thank you!

Not sure about your issue but you might want to edit your post title if you want more help. That one is not very descriptive of your problem.
I ordered a AT&T Straight Talk SIM card off of eBay. It was adversitied as brand new and the pictures showed the package as if it was in any store. It was shipped through the mail taped to a letter with instructions of activating it on an iPhone. It had the SIM card # and a Straight Talk "dummy" serial # to use. I figured I'd use it since it was there instead of my Nexus' serial #.
I went through the activation online and everything went smoothly. I did a factory reset on my phone, inserted the SIM card and went through the setup.
It's been about 4 hours now and I'm still getting no signal. I have tried different APN settings found on Google and forum search results on here and other tech forums. Still nothing? I even tried to set the settings in *#*#INFO#*#* to GSM only and LTE/GSM Auto but it will always reset to WCDMA preferred after resetting trying different APNs.
I called customer support twice. The first guy just did the "I need to gather your information" process for first callers then told me they're busy and to call back in 2-4 hours. The second time, a woman asked me to remove the battery while its still on. It took me about 15 minutes to explain to her that I have a Nexus 4 and not the "dummy" phone I activated with. She then told me there's nothing she can do because nothing problems show up on my account.
What do I do? You guys told me AT&T SIM cards still work, they're just not sold in stores. ;_;
I just activated another ST att Sim this morning..
Did you use the APN settings from the straight talk n4 thread ?
Also why would you use a dummy phone/ I have never did that.

I saved them. I input your settings. When I restart, it still says "NO SERVICE" then goes to "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY"
I know it's not that I don't have service because I'm not even connected to the network and I still have no phone number in my phone details. But my account on the website shows my phone number and everything.
I guess I can buy another card and activate it again?
Sounds like a sim issue.

I have stupidly forgotten the PIN on my Nexus 4. I would really rather not reset the phone and lose data. Are there any ways to bypass the lockscreen or to backup the data?
Thanks,
Liam
I sincerely hope not.
you can keep trying to unlock and when it locks you need to unlock the phone with you google account password you used to activate the phone. you will still need you sim pin to be able to use your sim card but your provider can unlock that one for you

The 'forgot pattern' button only appears with pattern unlock. There is no 'forgot PIN' button in Android.
Keep entering wrong pattern. After many tries it will block you and you will be able to use reset password feature.

Yeah you def need that card if you're on Verizon. I was having problems because I took my sim out of my note 2 and put it in my 3 and it wasn't working until 30 mins later I figured it out. As soon as you pick up or purchase the phone it auto stops your last sim.

I ordered mine from a local store and they needed your account to pre order. So as soon as they scanned it as picked up it was activated because I had no signal on my note 2. That's how I figured out was preactivated from the store

That is not correct. I'm using the same SIM in my Note 3 that I used in my S4, Note 2, and GNex. The beauty of SIM swapping is awesome for phone addicts.
