Richard Marx was right, Shoulda known better,
Sold my G2 thinking i would be able to pickup a new White Note 4.
The Note 3 launch was much better with plenty of devices in stock everywhere.
Looks like many of us wont see a White Note 4 until November!,
Rocking the wifes old GNEX with cracked screen is TORTURE! ha
(Actually gnex dev is still alive and well, some roms are actually pretty darn snappy!)
Now, im seeing that the VZW Variant might have mic holes in a different place than the rest of the variants..
This is enraging and Whoever designed and ok'ed these shenanigans should be found and turned into Eunuchs.

Yes - Thank you ! you are absolutely correct sir.
post fixed.
Only online Verizon stills have white note 4.
Yeah I had initially pre order the white version, but because of a misunderstanding I ended on up canceling my order and getting the Black Note 4 in store on the 23rd since I knew that the White Note 4 wouldn't be released till around the first of the month, and I'm actually liking the Black one more than I had expected. Plus my last phone was a Galaxy S4 which was white.

Please explain this "mic holes" thing. Is it normal for Samsung to manufacture a shell with mic holes in a different location for one provider?
I have Verizon. I used to have Sprint and Sprint was the worst thing in the world, or at least close. I went with Verizon because they had the best signal strength in most of the places that I used to live, and because the company I work at has a discount. But it seems that every post that I see is someone hating Verizon. I've moved now, and the signal isn't quite as good. My SGS3 seems to drop out more frequently in stores now. Because I'm not from this area, I talked to a few neighbors. Even the neighbor with AT&T told me to stay with Verizon unless I want a ton of dropped calls and lost text messages.
I most important reason why I stay with Verizon is the NETWORK...which is the most important for cell phone...unless you're an old man that live in one place and not going anywhere.
I got my white one last Thursday

Haha same story with me! Coming from a white s4. Wanted white note 4 got the black due to the shortage of white ones. Now I like it more than I thought. Still thinking of switching to white if it becomes available within my 14 days. If not, no big deal.

Same here, North Eastern PA, Nothing touches VZW for the network, and having UDP..
The mic holes thing i referring too was in regards to the other thread here, where the mic holes at the bottom of the device
are moved a few mm off from the rest of the variants, thus creating a case problem.
Verizon is well known for these types of shenanigans which drastically cuts down on accessories,
they did it with the gnex, the G2 (but DID offer qi charging as a bonus.) and not it seems the note 4.
My phone did not come with replacement S-Pen tips or the removal tool. Samsung and Verizon are trying to ping-pong me back and forth between each other. How freaking hard would it be to send me some.
I think I have a buddy with the note 4 that still has his tips from the note 3..should be the same?

Were you able to remove everything that you wanted gone? I was looking at a Verizon Note 4 in BB this afternoon, and there is a TON of crap on it. Of course it's a demo phone, so some of the stuff on it might not come on the phones that they sell.
My Verizon note 4 came with the extra tips and removal tool. You should ask who ever you bought it from if that is an issue.

There's a nifty feature where you can disable almost any app you would want gone. I disabled all the bloat and love my note 4
I went in today to pick up two Note 4s and obviously there weren't any in stock. The black one would come on Wed, the white one on Friday. I decided to just go ahead and do two white ones since it was only two days later. I was kind of shocked they didn't have anything in stock.

The Note4 allow you to turn off the system apps so no issue here. What I suggest you do is go into settings -> application-> running tab and see what's running and if you don't need them just slowly turn them off until only what you need are running. Just remember you only need to disable the app that run as a service where it consumes battery life and memory. Other apps are only running when you launch and a quick kill all tasks would shut them down permanently until you launch them again. You don't need to remove them since they take up not much space at all.

Until Amazon released their Amazon Underground app, I was having problems with their app store app because it had somehow been corrupted and would not communicate properly with the installed apps and their server. I could not uninstall and reinstall it to fix the problem because Verizon made the Amazon App Store app a system app.
Owning a phone/tablet without root is like owning a PC with no admin rights. I cannot fathom how anyone thinks it's acceptable.

Agreed. A non-rooted phone is totally unacceptable to me too.
No, I won't be tempted. I'm done with Samsung. I've gone without root for nearly a year now, I'm rather over it. Hopefully HTC or Sony come out with a phone I like, otherwise I'm moving to Windows or IOS.
You can go to IOS then jailbreak it then have your phone hacked and basically useless.
Or you can buy the Kickstarter phone called robin. It is completely unlocked.

If you don't have unlimited data, cloud storage can be a problem. 5.2" display is a bit small for my taste. Once you go to 5.7" it is hard to downsize.

It's not about physical features. I like to be able to disable certain apps, block ads and there are apps I like that require superuser privileges. I'm crazy about ViPER4Android. It requires root to function. Adfree Android not only blocks ads but it blocks known malicious websites.

I appreciate that. Maybe I'll look into that for my next phone. But there'll be new phones by then. I always use a phone for at least a couple years. In the past 5 years or so I've only had 2 phones before my Note 4. I got it because I liked my Note 2 so much. Also I have extreme need of the stylus. It's going to be pretty hard to give up this phone though. I like it a lot.
Actually I don't know anything about any of the other phones on the market. When I go to get something new I'll study on it. Like I said my Note 2 made me decide on the Note 4 and I didn't even look at anything else.

I'm there with you. My Note 2 was awesome. In fact if I fixed the screen it would still be awesome. And the Note 2 is going to receive official Lollipop.
And the Note 4 is a top device. Only dethroned by the Note5 minus the obvious setbacks.
Objectively speaking nothing tops the Note. I'm still considering the Note5 on and off just because minus the other very important lackings it is indeep the best overall device around.
Objectively it seems only the new Xperias are close. Subjectively however no one thing is perfect for everyone and all phones have very intriguing aspects.

Yeah I'm sure the Octacore processor, 4 gb ram, enhanced S-pen and the new Note 4 apps make it a joy to use. And the fixed battery isn't that big of a deal. But I use the infra-red constantly. When I'm messing with my phone and the entertainment center needs a change I don't even have to put it down. Also even if it wasn't for the other lost functionality the lack of SD support is a fatal flaw. I won't own a phone that I can't take the card out of and put it in my computer. That's really stupid as far as I'm concerned. If my phone dies I will not lose all of the data I have in it.

I'm probably going to pick it up regardless of root. But not right away, I like to observe for a couple of months and see if any major issues pop up.
I figure even if it doesn't get root, I'm not losing much since there's never going to be a permanent root solution for this Note 4. I will miss the battery and SD card options, but I can work around them. In exchange, I'll get a faster, smoother device with a MUCH better fingerprint scanner and better pen, and from what I'm hearing, better battery life. Plus it'll probably be upgraded to M waaaaaaaaay belt the Note 4.
So, unless something else grabs my eye, by the end of the year I'll probably pick this up and sell the Note 4 (or give it to a friend/family member).
But, a permanent root solution that doesn't trip Knox and allows Pay to work would be wonderful.

No way in hell, are you crazzy.....................
Without a replaceable battery I would have to be tethered to a battery charger half the time. I sleep with my Note 4 in my top pocket. I have two spare battery chargers on standby at all times. Back in the day of the Razz Maxx I had to keep two phone and I would move the SIM card to the phone with the fresh battery. The battery charger for the Razz Maxx could not keep up with demand. If you were watching video of security cameras the battery would die even if you were connected to the charger. The Note 5 will probably keep up with demand but I doubt you could effectively charge the battery and watch video at the same time. It would be a sloooooooow charge.
Three other bad things about using the usb connection to charge your phone.
1. Batteries have a longer life span if they or cycled property and slow charged.
2. It's going to cause wear to the usb port that you need primarily to transfer data. I guess You could use wireless charging to avoid that problem.
3. Heat: If you are Fast Cycling the discharge and charging of the Note 5, it is going to produce a lot of HEAT that is bad for batteries. Batteries charge better and live longer when they are charged cool. I keep a air conditioned room on my job site just to charge batteries for my power tools. When I pop a fresh battery into my Note 4 it cools the whole phone down.
All I can say is enjoy your new Note 5 and have fun.
Unless root adds micro sd, I think my days of Samsung devices as ended with the Note 4. Even if all go away from cards, I will not buy another Samsung out of spite.
I'm considering getting the G5 instead of the S7 for two reasons.
First, a little back story. I've had the S7 since the day it came out. I was fortunate enough to be eligible for an upgrade after having lost my LG G3 in a snowfield while doing some back country snowboarding. The G3's performance was great for me, plus I had an 8500mah battery on it, which allowed me to go days without a recharge. The drawback was that it was monolithic in bulk.
I often go out into the back country to snowboard; battery life is key. With the G5, there's the likelihood of a module that expands battery life. Failing that, I can get extra batteries to take with me. So, reason one: exchangeable/expandable batteries.
Secondly, and slightly related to my first point, is root. Without root on the S7 Verizon version, I'm unable to pare down bloatware, use Greenify, and switch ROMs to something more suitable or preferable than the factory options. Rooting a phone has the benefit, in my experience, of extending battery life simply by limiting what's running at any given time.
The one thing that's got me on the fence is the waterproof/dustproof feature of the S7 line. I may actually be able to find my old G3 this summer when I hike the area where I lost it. It's unlikely, but possible. The benefit being that I can recover my memory card... I am not disillusioned enough to think that it'll actually function after being saturated by springtime snow melt, and long term frozen conditions. (Man, that'd be a great testament to the LG hardware if it did, no?)
Anyway, I am willing to listen to any counter arguments to my decision before I go through with this. I'm meeting a guy at the VZW store this afternoon. He's going to inspect my phone, then buy a G5 for me right then and there if it's acceptable. It should be, given that it's been in a case and had a screen protector on it since day one.
Lg g5: is truly not worth it. DOA. Moreover snapdragon version is locked as well. I sent mine back. If anything look at HTC 10.

The g5 has way lower brightness (100% on the g5 is dimmer then 50-60% on the s7 edge). Worse build quality, worse battery and it looks ugly as hell (probably subjective). Oh and no waterproofing like you mentioned. The htc 10 looks to be much better in pretty much every aspect, I actually regret getting the s7 edge over it. The g5 is probably the worst flagship that came out this year.

The aesthetics of the G5 do not bother me. I'm a functionality over form sort of person, as I inferred above by mentioning my massive 8500mah battery and my requirement for long periods away from civilization. I do agree that the Samsung hardware is better manufactured, and the form is far more appealing, but if it doesn't meet my core needs, I'm going to be unhappy.
That being said, I hadn't considered the HTC 10 as an option. I will read up on it and see whether it will suit my needs. Thanks for mentioning it.
One thing about brightness, even on the lowest brightness, the S7 is annoyingly luminescent at night. When I wake up and want to check my phone, it doesn't dim low enough for me.

That's not going to happen. The whole "Friends" add-ons are DOA, so just ignore them. The B&O DAC for the G5? Yeah, North America won't get that, and the non-US modules won't even work with your US G5 even if you order one from Europe or whatever.
It's not waterproof, the battery is smaller, the screen is worse, the build quality is worse.. It's like downgrading from a Porsche to a Toyota. Don't get me wrong, the Toyota will serve you well for a long time, but it's like... WHY would you do that? "I don't like this high-end product, so I'm going to get the worse option." The better thing to do instead would be to get the Exynos version of the Edge, but that would depend on your current carrier (if it supports it).
The HTC 10 on the other hand is a better choice, but still not as overall good as the Edge. The Edge is at top right now when it comes to smartphones. It's the king, and whatever you decide to get instead will be a downgrade. That's just how it is right now. Samsung did a really great job with it, and you're about to do something stupid.

That's what i meant a physical battery bank, 20k mah in size should charge the phone 5 times or so compared to carrying an extra battery. If you can carry extra batteries then you can carry a large battery bank, kinda defeats the purpose of "i must have removable batteries" imo.

You would be so foolish not to get HTC 10 over g5
We all get to choose the phone that best meets our individual needs. If a replaceable battery is critical for the OP, that makes the G5 his only choice among top end phones. Personally, I'm not impressed by the G5, but that's me.
But for the specific concerns listed. The US S7e will probably never be rooted, so if that's truly critical get something else. I'm not sure the 5 is the answer for that, either, though.
As far as battery goes, while I think that phones should, in general, have a replaceable battery, an external battery pack is a viable substitute, especially if you don't need it all the time. There are even wireless ones that power the phone through the Qi coil.
Good luck with the lego phone, bye. This thread never happened and i never replied.
You better go with LG G4 instead of LG G5 if you insist on LG hehe.
But really, nothing can beat Galaxy S7 Edge, including HTC 10:
1. Best Display on planet.
2. Waterproofing
3. Awesome Battery life
4. Super-sexy phone.

Hi guys, so I've been looking for a new phone and since I have a big contract I can choose whatever phone I want for the same price (around 60 euros)..I really like the overall design and specs of the phone and I watched a lot of reviews but I wanted to ask your opinion..Is it worth signing a 2 year contract for this to be my daily phone..I Will torture the phone beacuse I do a lot of stuff on my phone..I read a lot of stuff and I dont know what is the best choice..All opinions are welcome.Thx guys

How do you use your phone?
Do you plan on flashing custom ROMs / care about root?
Is reception/battery life going to affect your ability to make money? As in, does your phone directly impact your job?
What options do you have if/when your phone becomes damaged and you need to replace it with insurance? Is this a factor that should be heavily weighed?
You might see more answers on the general htc 10 forum @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/
@noahjk
I use my phone pretty intense, I always root my devices and install different roms..Battery is not really that important but since I'm not home for aproximately 7-8 hours it would be great if the battery is decent (at least 3.5h SOT)..Actually I need a phone that is capable of handling anything that I need and yes sometimes I do depend on my phone when working..Insurance is not a big deal I always have temoered glass and heavy duty case..thx for the reply man, I really appreciate it

If you're overseas (guessing you are based on using euros) and you can purchase the s7e with the exynos processor, it's capable of root/custom ROMs and will be an all-around better phone, as well as come with water resistance specs that the 10 misses. It'll have a better battery life, better camera, better screen, better signal. That being said, I traded in my (snapdragon) s7e for the HTC 10, and I'm (fairly) happy with the trade. I wasn't a fan of the edge screen and I didn't like not being able to root (again because of snapdragon). I don't think you can go wrong with either of these phones, and these are the two I'd suggest you consider.
Some of the downsides of the 10 in my opinion are: Slightly worse battery life, camera currently doesn't work as well - but can hopefully be fixed either by HTC or a ROM through software, signal isn't as good (most likely because of the metal construction), I'd prefer an AMOLED screen for the always-on capabilities and the truer blacks (although the screen on the 10 is nothing to scoff at), and the notification LED only shows green & amber (s7e is RGB)
Things I like better about the 10: I prefer the slightly smaller size (not small though, perfect size IMO), I like that it has a normal screen, the speaker quality is slightly better (although nothing to write home about), I prefer USB type C to the MicroUSB in the s7e. Going along with the edge screen, I find the 10 easier to use. I used to always touch the screen when I didn't want to while picking the phone up. This might also impact the type of cases made for the s7e as far as durability goes since they have to work around the screen.
I'd suggest checking them both out in a store and seeing which you like - I know that's not the best way to test them, but hopefully it'll help steer you in the right direction.
Good luck!
I'll let you know when Verizon decides to actually have these in stock in their stores in NJ so they can take my money...still nowhere to be found from Sparta to Newark...WTF??? I don't get the marketing plan on selling these things only online lol

Have you tried Best Buy? I picked an HTC 10 on the Verizon launch date. One of my buddies picked one up 5/15, and the other guy picked one up on 5/19. On each occasion, the Verizon HTC 10 was available (only silver model) and they had plenty in stock.

Really? I've been to like 20 verizon stores from 4/29 through this past Wednesday....nada... LOL. I actually order through work on our state/gov't account, but I still wanted to see/hold the phone in person before taking the plunge. Though I finally caved on Friday afternoon once the Ice View case was also finally listed to order (25% discount). I have 30 days to hope for the carbon grey so I can return/exchange it!
The last few months I've gone through the LG V10 , the Moto X pure Style, and just picked up the HTC 10. I feel like the V10 in the Moto X were too big to function with one hand. I like to be able to reach all of the buttons on the screen in the top and bottom corners with one hand the htc10 it's perfect for that.
I'm big into music so I needed a phone that could satisfy my semi audiophile needs. Hardware wise I think the V10 was the best but to be completely honest I can't tell the difference between the V10 and the htc10 in the quality of the sound. The Moto X was obviously a disappointment compared to the other 2.
HTC did a very good job with their newest handset. The screen looks great much better than the Moto X and the audio quality it's on par with the V10 and I can hold it in one hand I've only had it for a few hours but I'll let you know after a week's use

I truly believe there is no better phone on the market than HTC 10. I laugh at my friend's s7 when he has random reboots or his s7 overheats after 35-40 min of using camera ( went to zoo with kiddos. We were using our phones to take pics when his s7 heated up and rebooted lol) HTC 10 is also durable! No overheating issue even while playing Works of tanks Blitz. And it's smooth as butter

So far not loving mine...
Just got it back from @jcase Friday, spent all weekend setting it up
Verizon HTC 10 Variant
LeeDroid with current Verizon firmware
Samsung Evo+ mc128d 128gb Uhs-i Class 10 Micro SD Card
Right off the bat the phone wouldn’t activate - said to call customer service. They had me go to Settings/Backup Reset/Restore Network Settings - in order to get the phone to work you must reset Network Settings then reboot, then restore Network Settings and reboot again - then 4G will come online.
2nd - the Samsung EVO+ wouldn’t work, phone reported as corrupt right from the box. I bought this card specifically for the Random speed. Card worked in the computer. Formatted card in the phone…in the computer - nothing (this was exFAT)Corrupted. Formatted card as FAT32 - bingo, that worked.
Today I notice music is skipping and hesitating…Bluetooth is not automatically connecting to the car radio - and it just randomly disconnects also.
I've had the phone lock up on me too several times. Had to hold the power and volume buttons to force shutdown - each time I lose 4G - have to do the above reset Network Settings twice/reboot twice to restore the 4G

Did you format the card for internal too? I have the same card and i'm not experiencing any problems. My want to try a different sd-card to rule that out.

It wouldn't format internal storage as exFAT... Said it was too slow. Wouldn't work in the phone at all formatted as exFAT ... Internal or external
Any attempts to format in the computer didn't work either... It formatted alright / and worked in the computer... Just not in the phone.
Worked fine after formatting to FAT32
I tried half a dozen other cards at various sizes and manufacturers and they all worked... But they are all over 5 years old and FAT32 as well... I haven't taken the time to try and format one of them as exFAT to see if they would work..., maybe if I get some time I'll give it a try
I've adjusted the buffer settings and whatnot in Poweramp and I'm still getting music skipping don't know if that's the card or not
Well I think my card may be a little different. Also, are you using windows to format them? Thats not good.

Design - Design is very subjective but I believe this time not much will ever said this phone is ugly. S8/S8+ is the most beauty touch screen phone ever release. 2nd place I give to LG G6. I just can't stop staring at it. Simple beauty, elegance & gorgeous.
Screen - No doubt it is the best screen I ever use in mobile. You just need to see yourself as word can't describe it. They is some users report have red tint issue, so it is advice proper check during purchase. How many unit got red tint issue I had no idea, as included 9 demo set I molest, I didn't seen any red tint issue in all 10 units from my eye.
Camera - The front and rear camera is very great and nothing much to complain about. Simply awesome. The rear camera for me is far better than iPhone 7 Plus.
System UI - The best ever release by Samsung, I must said I am more impress with this UI than vanilla stock, it is so clean and simple but still attractive.
UI Smoothness - Frank speak all the demo set I touch is not very smooth, even the unit I own also, lucky Samsung had release a new Home Launcher version update in Galaxy Apps Store. All Samsung own apps now is update at Galaxy Apps Store, it is wise don't disable this. After the update, now the UI smoothness is far better, it is not extremely smooth but at least it is in acceptable level now. I wonder why no review mentioned about this, the phone is very fast but the UI smoothness is not top notch.
Loud Speaker - It is ok for single speaker. I am a bit miss my loud speaker in iPhone 7 Plus now.
Sound Output - I find my Bose SoundSport sound nicer than pairing with iPhone 7 Plus. It sound much smoother.
Fingerprint - Whoever does this design and approval is brain broken! The placement at top right back beside the camera is very wrong.
Iris Scanner - I am actually disappointing with it, it is not working well and slow for user that wear glasses.
Battery Life - It is very awesome to me and the wireless fast charging also very fast jut it not stopping even full charge. Now I remember back actually wireless charging never ever knew to stop, it is like that since the first time appear in S6 Edge.
Bixby button - This extra button is really useless, the Bixby is not something everyone fancy about it. Very hope soon can have a proper way to change the button to something else without root. This Bixby is the most lagging apps in S8+, it is not smooth and take few second to fully load.
Game Launcher - I know this is nothing new as it is long there, Samsung doing this is very welcome, all games now in a proper place instead of everywhere in the app drawer.
What I miss from iPhone 7 Plus - the double tap at status bar to scroll to top. The extremely smooth UI where also only happen in iOS 10.3.1. The much better loud speaker.
What I hate in iOS but no longer issue after back to Android - Thanks god I no need to make the screen not sleep or app run in-front when downloading thing from the app. 2nd is they is no more apps that look ugly due to stretching due to the app not FHD support.

Wireless charging does stop, just because it says 100% it really has a minor amount to go after that, maybe 3 minutes. Once it's done the light on the charger turns green

You could remap the Bixby button using the app bxactions. No root needed.

Appreciate much for this, trying out now.
Finally finish setup my S8+
I have the S7 and was waiting for the S8 to give the S7 to the wife and get the S8 for me but that fingerprint scanner is a major flaw. Something I can't understand to be possible at such high level.
For me the s8 would never leave the shelf and Samsung would had to take the phone off the market in order to correct that hedious monster mistake

It's on the back because they couldn't get the under glass fingerprint reader working in time.
So they should have place it underneath the camera and not sideways on a place that is almost impossible to reach for a regular person, unless you have alien hands.
It's just absurd

This is the only thing make me annoying about Samsung phones. The UI smoothness is terrible (compare with the phones with the same specifications from other brands)

Do you have baby sized hands ?
I find it a total non issue, works well for me using either hand + lots of apps are gearing towards using it for password access as a choice.
Congratulations. I'm glad for you.

This ! Man I love my phone but this is just absurd. After using one day my fingers actually hurt because of the weird unnatural position to use the FP scanner. I'm not sure what's wrong but Samsung but things like this make it hard for me to really love the brand.
