Richard Marx was right, Shoulda known better,
Sold my G2 thinking i would be able to pickup a new White Note 4.
The Note 3 launch was much better with plenty of devices in stock everywhere.
Looks like many of us wont see a White Note 4 until November!,
Rocking the wifes old GNEX with cracked screen is TORTURE! ha
(Actually gnex dev is still alive and well, some roms are actually pretty darn snappy!)
Now, im seeing that the VZW Variant might have mic holes in a different place than the rest of the variants..
This is enraging and Whoever designed and ok'ed these shenanigans should be found and turned into Eunuchs.
And As always, "With Verizon, always assume the worst. -jayochs"

correction : with Verizon, always assume the worst.

Yes - Thank you ! you are absolutely correct sir.
post fixed.

Only online Verizon stills have white note 4.

Yeah I had initially pre order the white version, but because of a misunderstanding I ended on up canceling my order and getting the Black Note 4 in store on the 23rd since I knew that the White Note 4 wouldn't be released till around the first of the month, and I'm actually liking the Black one more than I had expected. Plus my last phone was a Galaxy S4 which was white.

Please explain this "mic holes" thing. Is it normal for Samsung to manufacture a shell with mic holes in a different location for one provider?
I have Verizon. I used to have Sprint and Sprint was the worst thing in the world, or at least close. I went with Verizon because they had the best signal strength in most of the places that I used to live, and because the company I work at has a discount. But it seems that every post that I see is someone hating Verizon. I've moved now, and the signal isn't quite as good. My SGS3 seems to drop out more frequently in stores now. Because I'm not from this area, I talked to a few neighbors. Even the neighbor with AT&T told me to stay with Verizon unless I want a ton of dropped calls and lost text messages.

I most important reason why I stay with Verizon is the NETWORK...which is the most important for cell phone...unless you're an old man that live in one place and not going anywhere.

I got my white one last Thursday

Haha same story with me! Coming from a white s4. Wanted white note 4 got the black due to the shortage of white ones. Now I like it more than I thought. Still thinking of switching to white if it becomes available within my 14 days. If not, no big deal.

Same here, North Eastern PA, Nothing touches VZW for the network, and having UDP..
The mic holes thing i referring too was in regards to the other thread here, where the mic holes at the bottom of the device
are moved a few mm off from the rest of the variants, thus creating a case problem.
Verizon is well known for these types of shenanigans which drastically cuts down on accessories,
they did it with the gnex, the G2 (but DID offer qi charging as a bonus.) and not it seems the note 4.

My phone did not come with replacement S-Pen tips or the removal tool. Samsung and Verizon are trying to ping-pong me back and forth between each other. How freaking hard would it be to send me some.
I think I have a buddy with the note 4 that still has his tips from the note 3..should be the same?

nova + disabling samsung/verizon apps have mostly solved any software issues i was having. i am still going in on the root bounty though ...

Were you able to remove everything that you wanted gone? I was looking at a Verizon Note 4 in BB this afternoon, and there is a TON of crap on it. Of course it's a demo phone, so some of the stuff on it might not come on the phones that they sell.

My Verizon note 4 came with the extra tips and removal tool. You should ask who ever you bought it from if that is an issue.

There's a nifty feature where you can disable almost any app you would want gone. I disabled all the bloat and love my note 4

I went in today to pick up two Note 4s and obviously there weren't any in stock. The black one would come on Wed, the white one on Friday. I decided to just go ahead and do two white ones since it was only two days later. I was kind of shocked they didn't have anything in stock.

The Note4 allow you to turn off the system apps so no issue here. What I suggest you do is go into settings -> application-> running tab and see what's running and if you don't need them just slowly turn them off until only what you need are running. Just remember you only need to disable the app that run as a service where it consumes battery life and memory. Other apps are only running when you launch and a quick kill all tasks would shut them down permanently until you launch them again. You don't need to remove them since they take up not much space at all.

Who's getting one and why?

Hey all
So the latest Nexus smartphone has gone big! Not only in size, but expected retail price. How do other members feel this stacks up with other devices? Say the Samsung Note 4 or Huawei mate 7? Is sticking to a Quad-core processor a wise choice, as so many flagships are touting an Octa-Core?
As with Nexus devices, this latest model also does not feature a micro SD card slot, for me a big omission and one reason i myself have avoided the nexus series, is this a big deal for others?
We also see a move towards AMOLED screen technology, personally i really like the vibrant colors and bright display AMOLED brings, but how do others feel about this change?
Who will be grabbing a Nexus 6 and why take this over the competition? Would also like to hear comments from those coming from the Nexus 5, is the screen size just to big a jump?

I am getting 64gb because,
It is motorola made
It is google device
It is premium
It is top end specced
It is future proof with developer support.
I'll Eventually get one Because :
Nexus 5 is cracking up around the body.
Nexus 6 will have a metal body and wont crack up.
I can trim off an Inch of the screen to make it a better nexus 5
Nexus, that is all.
I'm thinking about upgrading my Nexus 5, but the screen size may have me back off.
I would love it but the screen is too big... I'll proally buy it tho, just cause its a nexus

It's water resistant, if you think it's too big - use it as your umbrella as well!
I'm an Android Nut. So obv I love the Nexus Line for all of the right reasons...
But this one has my heart for Few reasons...
Phablet
QHD Screen
Snapdragon 805
3gb RAM (with stock Android... Wow)
Moto Made
SO MANY LTE bands (even band 12 on T-Mobile)
Obv great & long lasting development support
I recently ditched VZW for T-Mobile. Loving it. Have the G3, which is awesome. BUT, wet all know pure Android is where is at. SO, hard to pass this up. Plus I can use my JUMP program to get it, so as long as I put some money down up front, the larger price tag doesn't really affect me (all at once). I love phablets, went from Note 3 on VZW, to this G3. So the size isn't necessarily a hurdle for me.
Mostly tho, it's Lollipop. Biggest & best update to Android yet. And T-Mobile won't mess with the update process. So that's honestly why. Because there's absolutely nothing wrong with my G3. But I'ma nerd, and I want A nexus! Haha
My reason is that I want to move to a bigger form factor and also have the ability to have stock, vanilla Android without bloat. The funny thing is that all those that complain about the price never seem to bring up the expense of the Note 3 or other phones. With those you have serious bloat and no ability outside of root to weed it out. Don't forget you don't have to wait 3 to 6 months to get the latest Android update. Those things taken into account and the Nexus 6 looks like a pretty good deal.
Samsung kept delaying the note 4 in the UK so that it would arrive next Saturday when im leaving to Florida for a week.
So i though F**k it when the N6 was announced as it is cheaper and my warranty will not be void day 1
Although the N6 may be behind on some things, battery life, micro sd card slot and camera.
I love Nexus and have always been disappointed in the cheap feel of the N5. With the spec of the N6, its my total fantasy of an awesome phone.
Upgrading from my GNex, first time I felt it was worthy, second I'm still on VZ.
Will pull trigger after handling one in store though.
As to size, unsure yet, but anythign out there now is a bit bigger than what I came from, however I fall in line with most of the other answers:
future dev support
larger
nexus
Pure Android bliss.
While I hated moto under the JhaTool for how they locked everything down, one really cant argue - moto makes terrific HW, radios specifically.
It's likely going to happen foe me.
Because it's the next nexus...
Great phone and this community can not be beat!!
Getting Blue 64gb:
It is motorolo (I had a StarTac )
It is google 2014
It is premium
It is highend specs
It has XDA developer support!
I was going to get a phone and a tablet but why now when I can saving money and only need one device with an unmatched development community?
I've had two notes. Never removed the battery once, but I did use the SD card. With 64 gigs though, I won't need a card. I also used the MultiWindows and pen windows a lot but now I can get those features from Xposed with TouchWiz bloat and ugliness. There's nothing else the Note offers me. Maybe a slightly better camera (we'll see), but that's not a priority of mine.
The Mate 7 looked awesome, and I considered it over the Nexus, but it will have little to no development, and is only a little cheaper.
To utilize my jump. Might as well jump every six months since I'm paying for it.
And it's a nice device. I miss Motorola from three flip phone days. They always had good hardware.
G3
I haven't had a Motorola phone since the Bionic. Since then I've had the Note 2 and Note 3. I love them, but now that Moto has made a big phone, I'm really excited. Even though it's not really a productivity one.
And I've never had a Nexus, so this is perfect. Big screen like I like, quality Moto, and I can get it through a carrier.

I was thinking about buying a Note 4 or the Note Edge, but this phone just looks amazing. I also want the biggest phone I can fit in my pocket and the fact that it will be unlocked or unlockable on Verizon also got me. The fact that it already will ship with Lollipop is better yet and will get the latest updates is another reason. I can't stand being locked down as I would be with the Samsung devices on Verizon and I can't switch to Tmobile because they have NO service in my area. This phone is gorgeous and has every specification I could ever ask for. I never used the stupid pen on my Note 2 and I never used the split screen either. I also think the price is fantastic all things considered, even though for some reason so many people are complaining about it. Nexus 6, 64gb, probably white, here I come. I never thought I would say this. Nexus got me with this phone.
My Nexus 5 got jacked few months back!! and I loved it. I was going to buy another but I held back and so I thought, I'd wait for the N6 to release before making my next purchase, I'm still reluctant though due to no known UK price but I had budgeted £450 for the release. But even this is looking unlikely with conversion from USD with VAT. So if I'm going to have to spend more, I really need to see reviews and maybe it in real life

Soon to be Turbo owner

What's up everyone? I have a Droid Turbo coming in the mail tomorrow and I'll be switching over from a GS4. I was able to upgrade via an "Early Edge" upgrade (I wasn't on Edge beforehand) and oddly this was the only phone I could upgrade to. I was looking into this phone for a while so I wasn't too upset about it. Have any of you made the jump from the S4 to the Turbo? If so, what are your impressions? I have a feeling I'm going to like it, sans the lack of root and an IR blaster.

I came from a S4. I miss root sometimes. Not too often. Like for enabling wifi tether on unlimited. But I bought this figuring it would not get rooted. Kinda done with my rooting and flashing days. For the most part I really like the phone. I generally get about 1 1/2 to 2 days on a charge. I love the quick charge as well. The screen if beautiful and over all its pretty quick. Still not impressed with the camera and I think the wifi sucks. The antenna is weak and it is very laggy.

I do like root for things like getting rid of bloat and additional tweaks to help with battery. I've got a 3000mAh battery in my S4 and it won't make it through a day. I've had the Razr Maxx back in the day and I could get almost 2 days out of it without breaking a sweat. I've read reviews that said the Turbo only has one antenna in it as compared to 2 or more like most phones. I spend most of my time on wifi so hopefully it doesn't suck too bad. I'm not sure how the Edge program works as far as the 14 day exchange policy. Seeing as how this was the only phone option I was given I'm not sure if they'd let me swap out to something else in case this phone doesn't suit my needs.
I came from the S4 as well. Miss root, but i knew before hand we probably wouldn't get it. It has taken some time to adjust to ads but overall not too upset about not having it.
The phone, i love it. I live in a very rural area and it seems to perform alot better than my s4 with a case on it (in terms of signal strength). I get a good solid day of battery life, im sure that would be extended significantly if i was always in cell range. Overall im pleased with the build quality and the OS. I love the near stock android, probably what drew me to this phone the most.
Sure camera ain't the best, but its a phone after all, good enough.
I think you'll like appreciate the speed, the brighter screen and the long battery life.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I came from the Note 3, which is the same as the S4 hardware-wise.
I don't regret the decision at all. The size of the Turbo is more comfortable for me. Even bigger battery is a big plus. I don't miss root too much. There are a couple of xposed modules that I miss, but that's it.
I always forget about downloading adaway so I've been dealing with ads since I got this phone lol. I think I'm really going to miss the IR the most though.

I came from the S4 and but I couldn't deal with the turbo wifi issues so after 23 days I sent my Turbo back. By far it was the best phone I ever owned but the wifi was killing me and a deal breaker. I have unlimited data but some places I visit doesn't have a LTE signal or not available so a constant wifi is a must. Just search the threads the issue is real. Then you mix that with no Root, lollipop and the HTC m9 plus and GS6 are a few weeks away it was a no brainier to send it back before my 30 days was up. If they ever fix the wifi issue and get lollipop it be a solid phone.
came from an S3, also miss root a little, but getting over it, battery life is fantastic (main selling point for me) but everything else about phone is also really nice. Good luck!
I'm glad I went DT, have not looked back one bit.
(It's nice seeing the "new"phones come out and not feeling that upgrade urge and regret).
I have a LG g3 and was thinking about getting a DT,you guys and girls that own one what do you think?I'm not to concerned about root or boot loader unlock just performance..

I have the MAXX and love it. I thought the size would be to big, as my Moto X always seemed perfect for my hand. But these older eyes love it. What is great is that I never worry about battery any more. I used to worry about using NAV for an hour, now i don't care. I will make through a day no matter what i do.
But if you go for 64GB, the nylon is slippery. I hate cases, and tried some anyway. Finally settled on spraying the back with Plastidip and now the phone is perfect. I plan to respray with some color, and do some nicer masking, but that was the only thing i really hated. I even got used to the seam on the chin that annoyed me.
I don't understand why people don't like the camera on this phone.

90% of people who ***** about camera quality are the people who can't hold their ****ing hands still enough to take a decent shot. That, or they're expecting miracles like perfect shots of something moving quickly.
I never complain about camera quality because after all it is just a cell phone. HOWEVER, my girlfriends G3 takes far better pictures than my turbo. It adjusts to light way better as well. Makes me sad.

If the Note 5 gets permanent root, I will be tempted...will you?
Nope.
Samsung is dead to me until I can simply fastboot an unlocked bootloader.

Until Amazon released their Amazon Underground app, I was having problems with their app store app because it had somehow been corrupted and would not communicate properly with the installed apps and their server. I could not uninstall and reinstall it to fix the problem because Verizon made the Amazon App Store app a system app.
Owning a phone/tablet without root is like owning a PC with no admin rights. I cannot fathom how anyone thinks it's acceptable.

Agreed. A non-rooted phone is totally unacceptable to me too.
No, I won't be tempted. I'm done with Samsung. I've gone without root for nearly a year now, I'm rather over it. Hopefully HTC or Sony come out with a phone I like, otherwise I'm moving to Windows or IOS.
You can go to IOS then jailbreak it then have your phone hacked and basically useless.
Or you can buy the Kickstarter phone called robin. It is completely unlocked.

If you don't have unlimited data, cloud storage can be a problem. 5.2" display is a bit small for my taste. Once you go to 5.7" it is hard to downsize.

It's not about physical features. I like to be able to disable certain apps, block ads and there are apps I like that require superuser privileges. I'm crazy about ViPER4Android. It requires root to function. Adfree Android not only blocks ads but it blocks known malicious websites.

I appreciate that. Maybe I'll look into that for my next phone. But there'll be new phones by then. I always use a phone for at least a couple years. In the past 5 years or so I've only had 2 phones before my Note 4. I got it because I liked my Note 2 so much. Also I have extreme need of the stylus. It's going to be pretty hard to give up this phone though. I like it a lot.
Actually I don't know anything about any of the other phones on the market. When I go to get something new I'll study on it. Like I said my Note 2 made me decide on the Note 4 and I didn't even look at anything else.

I'm there with you. My Note 2 was awesome. In fact if I fixed the screen it would still be awesome. And the Note 2 is going to receive official Lollipop.
And the Note 4 is a top device. Only dethroned by the Note5 minus the obvious setbacks.
Objectively speaking nothing tops the Note. I'm still considering the Note5 on and off just because minus the other very important lackings it is indeep the best overall device around.
Objectively it seems only the new Xperias are close. Subjectively however no one thing is perfect for everyone and all phones have very intriguing aspects.

Yeah I'm sure the Octacore processor, 4 gb ram, enhanced S-pen and the new Note 4 apps make it a joy to use. And the fixed battery isn't that big of a deal. But I use the infra-red constantly. When I'm messing with my phone and the entertainment center needs a change I don't even have to put it down. Also even if it wasn't for the other lost functionality the lack of SD support is a fatal flaw. I won't own a phone that I can't take the card out of and put it in my computer. That's really stupid as far as I'm concerned. If my phone dies I will not lose all of the data I have in it.

I'm probably going to pick it up regardless of root. But not right away, I like to observe for a couple of months and see if any major issues pop up.
I figure even if it doesn't get root, I'm not losing much since there's never going to be a permanent root solution for this Note 4. I will miss the battery and SD card options, but I can work around them. In exchange, I'll get a faster, smoother device with a MUCH better fingerprint scanner and better pen, and from what I'm hearing, better battery life. Plus it'll probably be upgraded to M waaaaaaaaay belt the Note 4.
So, unless something else grabs my eye, by the end of the year I'll probably pick this up and sell the Note 4 (or give it to a friend/family member).
But, a permanent root solution that doesn't trip Knox and allows Pay to work would be wonderful.

By that time there'll probably be a Developer Edition available.

No way in hell, are you crazzy.....................
Without a replaceable battery I would have to be tethered to a battery charger half the time. I sleep with my Note 4 in my top pocket. I have two spare battery chargers on standby at all times. Back in the day of the Razz Maxx I had to keep two phone and I would move the SIM card to the phone with the fresh battery. The battery charger for the Razz Maxx could not keep up with demand. If you were watching video of security cameras the battery would die even if you were connected to the charger. The Note 5 will probably keep up with demand but I doubt you could effectively charge the battery and watch video at the same time. It would be a sloooooooow charge.
Three other bad things about using the usb connection to charge your phone.
1. Batteries have a longer life span if they or cycled property and slow charged.
2. It's going to cause wear to the usb port that you need primarily to transfer data. I guess You could use wireless charging to avoid that problem.
3. Heat: If you are Fast Cycling the discharge and charging of the Note 5, it is going to produce a lot of HEAT that is bad for batteries. Batteries charge better and live longer when they are charged cool. I keep a air conditioned room on my job site just to charge batteries for my power tools. When I pop a fresh battery into my Note 4 it cools the whole phone down.
All I can say is enjoy your new Note 5 and have fun.
Unless root adds micro sd, I think my days of Samsung devices as ended with the Note 4. Even if all go away from cards, I will not buy another Samsung out of spite.

Does 'Always On' interfere with Doze on S7?

As you may or may not know; most everyone (who isn't with T-Mobile) got their pre-orders in today for the Galaxy s7 and s7 edge.
I did, and love the fast charging! Upgrading from s5 to s7 has many perks, but I already see some pretty major cons. So this post is a mix of things I noticed, and my question is
"Do you notice some of these things as well on your S7 or S7 Edge?"
1) When gaming you can easily muffle the side speaker which sounds terrible
2) Fingerprint magnet backing and screen
3) You have to press the home button to turn screen on, then rest your finger on the home button again to unlock.. Kinda annoying
4) Heat, Heat Heat! Holding the phone in my palm for over 7 or so minutes will make my palms sweaty due to the heat, most notable behind the right side of the front screen on the back.
5) I don't believe Doze is kicking in, even after turning off the Always On display feature. I'm going to do more reporting and experiments to ensure this is valid. I already know how Doze works with my Nexus 7 (2013) and I love it! Leaving it on the table all night and only lose 1% is amazing! :good: Just hope my phone will follow the same way. If not, I think Verizon and Samsung are holding back on us.
6) My bank doesn't support the Samsung pay yet, and I'm sure a huge majority of users won't be able to use it until their bank does contact Samsung to enroll. My bank already has started the process, but it will take up to 45 days to even hear back from Samsung according to my bank. Oh well, Android Pay for now.
don't think doze is working here either.. when i checked gsam, i saw that I was losing either the exact same amount or more battery when the screen was actually off! crazy.

I am pretty sure doze works for me and I am on Verizon. I have my always on display turned off. My battery life is incredible. It's better than my lg g4. I did disable quite a few apps which helps. Also, disabling location history with Google helps a ton. That was an issue on my LG g4 as well.
My bank doesn't support Samsung pay either.
If you want to USE Samsung Pay just for the hell of it like I did, and your bank doesn't support it yes like mine (5th/3rd)...there is one work around I have found!
There is indeed one prepaid debit card that I know for a fact works well with it! It's the CHASE LIQUID DEBIT VISA card. Have to go to a chase bank to get it. Takes about 10 minutes or so to set up. Basic info is collected from you (personal info like you would give for any account / card).
Anyway, if you want to just try it out, it's an option. I used it at Walmart just 3 days ago. Pretty darn cool... Worked exactly like the commercial lol.
And right now when you make your first purchase on a registered card, you get to pick from a few $30 digital gift cards. I picked an EBay one. There was also Best Buy, and some other lesser known ones. Credited to your Samsung Pay account right away under the gift card accounts.
I still haven't decided on its merits. It's fun, especially if you're a geek like I suspect most of us on here are. But beyond that, it's still mostly easier to swipe a card. But for security and pure tech awesomeness... I'm going to probably continue to use it just because lol.

Lol I'm not sure how it's the wrong thread. Read the OP. He posted 6 statements. Number 6 was all about Samsung Pay. Only one out of 6 of his OP discussion observations (#5) was concerning the "always on" or "doze" features. Are you sure I have the wrong thread?
5 out of 6 of his observations have nothing to do with the title... Shall you tell him the same? Lol Sheesh...

nah it was sitting on my desk. weird. I've made another thread so as to not derail this one from op.

Should I get this phone or wait until a new Nexus?

So, a bit of a backstory: I am still on an AT&T GS4. It is obviously years old, but still chugs along. More hangups now than earlier, but restarting fixes it. My phone is rooted, but no custom ROMs or anything, because locked boot loaders are great like that.
I use Tasker for enough things, AdAway, ClockSync (because I am anal and like "perfect" time), ES File Explorer, Light Flow, TB, and I do have some Xposed modules. Some of my Tasker profiles use Secure Settings. I really did like custom ROMs on my international GS2, and was pretty bummed that this did not have them. I also simply like having full control over my phone. It's my hardware, I want to use it how I please.
I have not purchased a Nexus 6p because it is mostly just too large for me. The S7E might be the biggest I would be comfortable with. At this point, I am looking for opinions on whether I should wait for a possibly new Nexus phone, or pick up this one. I would likely grab the 935F, and not the AT&T variant. Another thing that scares me is warranty, or lack thereof, since I would be buying it from an ebay seller. I've never had a phone with a manufacturer defect or something worth warrantying, but it would suck to have a dead phone and be out ~$700.
Any thoughts/opinions/similar conundrums?
If your really into flashing Roms then yea wait becuase the g4 is still a great phone, but if your like me, I wanted to get away from flashing Roms because it consumes too much of my life the s7e is an awesome phone, I took the plunge with no regrets but if u do buy international spend 80$ more and buy from Amazon or b&h they provide you with 1 yr warranty directly from them so if u do have issues u won't have to try to deal with Samsung

It's a GS4, as in Galaxy S4. Or was "g4" just a typo? Either way, it still does fine. Did you happen to buy a carrier branded one or the international?

Lol my mistake the g7e is such a vast improvement over the gs4 I personally would definitely take the plunge. I did go with the art varient as I like how cool the sd820 runs it barely even gets warm as well as I wanted volte, wifi calling, and Samsung pay, as the international ones doesn't , but im sure the exynos has a bit better battery life but my sd820 averages 7 sot so I'm not craving more battery

Yea surprisingly I don't care about root anymore, every Android I've owned was rooted but I'm just sick of cat and mouse with rooting flashing Roms I just want to enjoy the phone and i feel Android is finally to a point where I don't need root anymore

This is pretty much where I'm at. I mean, I would probably root if it were an option for adblock without a VPN, but it's not a deal breaker. OEM's have pretty much taken every cool feature that you could only get through a ROM and baked it in their own, so I have no interest in flashing ROM's anymore.
Wait for an unannounced potentially non existent phone (which is rumored to be by HTC), or get a solid option that you can touch, feel, see.
I think it's personal opinion, as far as warranty, you can get square trade warranty I believe it's called. And if it was never registered you could register it via samsung.
Lastly, depends what you want. I want best screen possible and amazing camera. That's s7 edge for me.

With a theme and a launcher, I'm running like I'm stock. Best of both worlds.

I am on the same boat. I am currently watching 2 auctions for the nexus 6p. Don't know if I should pull the trigger or not. My current phone is a iPhone 6 but I wanna get back into the android world as my first smartphone was a nexus. The edge looks awesome but my upgrade ain't ready till October.

I say get the GS7E. I've been running Nexus phones side-by-side with my Galaxy phones since 2013 and the Galaxies are better for everything except timely software updates.

I picked up the s7 edge about a week ago, the international 935f. I like the size and weight of the phone. I'm not sure if it's the exynos processor, but it's not as smooth as my Nexus 6p. The camera and battery life are better than the Nexus, not by much. I love my Nexus though and will keep it.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Yeah, I am not sure what to do. I am sure the S7E is a badass phone, but I really want to be able to root it and screw around, if only just because I want the ability to do so.
I went from HTC One m8 (Sense rom, and also used GPE Rom for a while) + user of a Nexus 9, over to the S7 Edge.
Honestly, you can like Stock android as much as you want.. But stuff like Touchwiz (or other versions like sense, LG ui etc) have the one or other really awesome feature, that just simply don't exist on Android.
One of my Favourite features on TouchWiz right now:
Screenshot.
Honestly. After i do a Screenshot of a Screen, that is Scrollable (like Internet browser, Facebook posts, Whatsapp chatlog, etc), theres a "+" beside "share" and "delete". If i press the "+", the screenshot-function automatically scrolls down, and does another screenshot. If press + again, it does it a third time.
And it stitches them Together into a sort of "Panorama" screenshot.
In Whatsapp, you have your status bar at the Top, then 2345634 Kilometers Chatlog, and THEN just at the bottom your Text field. The Chat itself is stitched together jsut perfectly.
And if i say perfectly, i literaly mean Pixel-accuracy stitched Together.
my Whatsapp screens only look strange, because of my Background Wallpaper in Whatsapp, that will be "cut". If it were a one-color background, it would be absolutely Perfect.
Cant praise this feature enough, as someone who takes Screenshots here and there.
Stuff like this show me, that it was a right decision to NOT take a nexus. (because, i HAVE experience with Vanilla Android, and i miss NOTHING on Touchwiz. Literaly, Nothing. Not even performance. )

Hmm, interesting. I don't know that it is super important to me to be able to take extremely long screenshots. I only ever take screenshots of the thing I am looking at directly.
True, but sometimes, it's quite handy Like for some conversations, that are 1,5 - 2 screens deep
But that's just one of many...
There is an option, to reset all Settings back, without having to do "Factory Reset" (which will delete all your data). That was handy for me once, while stock android doesnt have that.
The Camera App from Touchwiz is pretty good, and the Pro mode is nice (you can save pictures as RAW while in PRO Mode, or turn the shutter speed up to whole 10 Seconds which is useable because of the very good OIS).
Well, in the End, my Preferences won't be an Argument for YOUR preferences. If you love stock android, then waiting for the next Nexus might be worth for you.
But i think, the S7 is a damn good piece of hardware, with a really really not bad Software. You could still use Nova Launcher or something, and maybe a Material Theme, and you'll be noit that far away from a stock android experience. But still have some nice features (+ the awesome hardware)

I've never even used pure, stock Android before. Never had a Nexus. I don't have an issue with Touchwiz either, as I would already use Apex/Nova as my launcher anyway. The phone/software itself is great, I am positive. My issue is the locked down environment of it. I want to be able to tinker, and Samsung does not want that.
In a geeks opinion, if you're really into exploring and having fun with that device, I would suggest a Nexus device,it'd be first one to receive updates, Samsung series are good and eye candy, but what they lack is update, late updates and sometimes no update at all. Any ways if brand really matters I suggest go for Samsung, otherwise for full potential use Nexus

I certainly do like the idea, and would have purchased a 6p when it came out, but it is just too damned big for my hands, unfortunately. I essentially have to decide if I want to wait until November or not.
