Its amazing this problem still exists. I also was waiting to see if this was fixed. It must have to do
with the bloatware Samsung apps because on the Nexus 6P this does not exit at all.

you wont buy the phone because it is a big deal for you to wait for one second to refresh after opening 7 apps..thats just one stupid reason to not get this phone

Because all the others phone, don't have this problem, HTC, Sony LG, and especially a Nexus and IPhone.
So I think that's actually more stupid to buy something when you know it has some problems.
And it's not 7 apps, it just need one 3D games and it fails...
So just fix this problem, that's it.
And when it's a game, it's not one second, you have to wait all the loads since the beginning and more, you have to restart the mission, so you lost at your mission. Wow !
Don't buy it if you don't like it. Simple as that.

It's not a problem because people don't use 7 apps at the same time and expect them to open on demand.

Wow and in one review only one app refreshed. Lol. Some people are funny. If you don't want the phone done buy it. People need to stop trying to taint others perception of things just so they can feel the made a good choice. The S7 edge performed great and looks phenomenal with that edge to edge display against the Sony phone; and the Nexus phone just looks ugly to me.

There's no just one app refreshed unfortunately, but yes the phone looks good that's why people like it, if it used to looks like the S5, meeeh, I don't think people will just say "ohh you know there's only one app refreshed".

Let's be clear. EVERY phone has problems. EVERY. SINGLE. PHONE. It always has been and always will be a balance of weighing the pros and the cons.
It's absolutely naive to suggest otherwise.
Well, somehow the S7 in this test/video has no issues with RAM management at all. 3 games and 3 apps (like YouTube) open at the same time. Seems to be no problem.
Maybe it depends on the chip? The phone in this video uses the Exynos.
For my preference it is fine. It's more than I would use simultaneously on a normal day (I have tha habit to close all apps regularly).

Well in the videos posted, one doesn't play and in Erica's review that was a prereleased model so we don't know if a software update happened between the video and time of release. And in the last video temple run refreshed and subway surfers crashed due to it being a crappy app. So I'm only counting one. But yeah im a IPhone reconvert and the S7 edge was the first phone in over a year and a half that even made me look at Android again and that's saying a lot. And don't get me started on that LG phone it looks hideous too, but that's only my opinion.

Im pretty sure the average person doesn't use more than 3 apps at the same time, unless you have ADHD, which makes whole different story !
I've just underlined the problem, it's not big as with the S6's one but it still present, that's it and for me it's a big problem.
Samsung just need to fix this, but they take forever, it software not hardware, does it bring better battery life ? I don't think so because the S6 was not awesome at this point. It just Touchwizz still not at point.
I don't care about USB Type-C or Quick Charge 3.0, but I care about this ram management. It's not a small problem, it's not like the picture is not good as I expected, no it's a software problem, imagine your computer can't keep apps in background. Shame.

There could be a specific reason why that game refreshed that has nothing to do with ram. If some of the other apps didn't open I could see it as an issue.
Also your second example is ridiculous to post. You don't even know that is final software.
So basically one app refreshed.
Honestly, I still confused about meaning of bad RAM management.. As long as the performance doesn't decreased too much, I won't tell the phone has bad RAM management.. That's why Samsung provide Smart Manager to maintain the phone to its top performance although I don't recommend to clean RAM too often because Android has a features that will close a rarely use apps.

Hi, with all this hype for GS3 and this little update to the hardware? Look at LG already with 2GB ram Optimus LTE2.
So Samsung is not even trying to push the hardware. we all seen the HD screen already on other phones and the zero lag camera (software).
What you guy's think. Are we seeing another Apple like updates?
Dont make a war. Just real opinions.
In some way i kinda agree with you. You are getting in all the threads now and forums fanboys running around having a go at each other on whos phone is better than the others..Its like who has the biggest one and not
Phone is good top notch handset. But still not the kind that would of wowed me. Great innovative apps and the phone has some nice features but also my phone has that to. So you will get people coming from the s2 who will buy this phone anyway. No matter what specs it has just because it has the Galaxy brand on it and it is the newest in town people will buy it no matter what specially after all the secrecy surrounded the phone.
So kinda in a way the samsung guys are like the new sheep and sammy is turning into apple..but at least with this turn of events you get the freedom of android and you can do what you want with your phone instead of being accustomed to one thing with the iphone
What's wrong with the 1Gig of RAM on the GS3?
And let me ask this would you really want an LG phone just because it has more RAM? Raw specs alone don't make a phone or LG would be doing great right now. You have to marry the hardware and software to get a great experience and Samsung has the ability to make it happen, the GS3 will be a great device no need to worry about it.

not worrying about anything mate. just thought with all the rumors we been hearing and reading that the s3 would of been at least kinda 1.5GB or 2gb. either way like i said the handset is a major upgrade from the s2 but not the big one i expected. nonetheless still a great phone

Do people need 1.5 GB of RAM on a phone yet? I know things are moving really fast in the mobile world and it's better to have and not need then need and not have but do S2 owners run low on RAM? It's an honest question as I don't have one and wouldn't know.

no of course there is no need for more RAM. But as you said technology is moving fast and i was kinda expecting it to have the tad minor upgrade in RAM. Still though 1GB is more than good enough. But like i said being the new flagship and all i kinda half expected it to be more..

They are definitely trying to play the hype game now and it's working. Hardware wise, I don't think so. If you compare the S1 to the S2, the differences didn't seem that impressive at the time either. Same resolution screen, slightly larger. At least not to me. They have to make a phone that is both cutting edge and affordable, and I think they are doing that with this phone. But I guess we will see when it really hits the market.
Ics takes lots of ram. I have thw Galaxy note and the s2 i have 100 something free all the time and I always close whichever app im using and removed all the bloatware
It's an interesting direction by Samsung, the new features look interesting, will have to see if they're actually useful. I can't imagine me using that health app though! Hardware wise I'm in the camp where pentile doesn't matter when its 720p. Can't comment on the RAM though, but more doesn't hurt but god damn they could have stopped using glossy plastic. For all their talks about 'natural design', I have not seen a single pebble that looks as shiny/plasticky as this.

While LG has a great new phone, I don't think it will be beating the GS3 in any real practical category. Sammy has one beast of a phone with the new GS3 and just wait for the reviews to flow in.
Seriously, this is Samsung we're talking about the same guys who brought us GS1 and GS2. This phone already blows everything out tha water including the One X. Even with the same performance i woulda picked Samsung cause of their superior R&D and those new real practical features such as eye tracking.
LG software is crap. So is Huawei's sw even though they claim to have the fastest phone. Samsung has really improved their software from SGS1 days. Im still impressed about the web browser in the SGS2. Only thing id like to have is completely redesigned Touchwiz, Samsung does not need to look like iPhone anymore.
I have latest ICS on S2 with about 260mb of ram mostly free. No tasks killer. Samsung would sure know if they needed more than 1gb ram.i personally so not think it is needed. More than 300 apps installed btw on my phone. The new beast has been well thought through.have a second look.

-Battery life (more than 20% improvement just with the new exonus, plus higher battery rating). Samsung is claiming 2 days. Now, even a whole day it's sufficient.
-64gb micro sd can be used by default.
-zero shutter lag, 24 pictures in 3 secs.
-gorilla glass 2.
-etc
That's not just software improvements.they are major.

Phone Arena's head to head comparison show that the iPhone and G3 launch apps faster. I can't believe Samsung puts in the best phone processor, but had no care for the end user of a fluid experience, and appears to have put in zero work in making touch wiz faster. Any thoughts?
If that's the case, then I'm sticking to my m8. I couldn't stand that on the note 3.

I was running some tests on a HP Gen8 server sometime back, it was taking time and sort of freezing a few times.
It had 512GB of RAM, quite a few Xeon processors and tons of other stuffs. It was still "lagging" in many tests.
Do you think I should take this server out and put Moto X, as apparently it doesn't lag.
Samsung phones do a lot more than any other phone. There are many options that you can use in Samsung phone that you won't ever find it a simple phone. And hence there is a tradeoff. It's the law of nature. The very idea of getting a Samsung phone is that you are not getting a normal bare-bone stock device. It's has bells and whistles. It your objective is to have a phone with bare minimum features, get some other phone.
If you get a Samsung phone you might see delay of 0.5 sec for some basic thing, not that I ever care about them. Not it's for your to decide whether you are interested in that half-second of time or do you think those added functionality is more important to you. Just a simple trick like slide to call/SMS is such amazing in a Samsung device.
i cant stand my G3. note 3 didnt lag as much as this pos
Meh, it's a demo model, we don't know which processor it had in it, and it's running a pre-production unit of the new touch wiz. That, and half those tests were bunk, email on the G3 had 2 emails, the note 4 had about 100, same with Gallery. I'll wait for a real comparison before I even look at these speed tests.

I agree with that. My G3 definitely has more lag than the Note 3 I had before it.
Some people say the G3 has less lag when you use the ART runtime, but I have a few apps that are not ART compatible so can't test that.
I doubt the Note 4 will be worse than the G3 in terms of lag. I'll test out when the Note is in stores. If it IS slower then I just won't buy it. Simple.

I wish I could have waited for a note4 but my upgrade was burning a hole in my pocket and I picked up the GS5 in April. I love this phone but I want the big screen. I would gladly trade my Sprint GS5 and a Sprint GS3 for this bad boy.
Samsung finally learned to lighten up TouchWiz a bit.
My S5 is completely lag-less. At least as good as the Nexus 4 or S4 mini with CM11, i had before.
Note 4 has a higher resolution but also more power.
(Only 'lag' may be the Home button, because its waiting for a second press (S Voice) - but you can disable that.)

I have a note 2 on Verizon. I think that as an expensive premium device, even for all these "extra features" like you guys say, there is NO EXCUSE for lag! It has the absolute latest phone processor in it, and they even developed their own. What's the point if everything lags and is slow anyway?
My HTC One Max is just as fast as the M8 and MUCH faster than note 3 with metal all around not just on sides and BoomSound speakers are as good as the ones on M8 not single tiny speaker on the back like Note 4.

I am sure you go to every thread in this community and you will find at least 1thread discussing about slow sluggish and lags.
Our human tendency is we want note never satisfied with what we've already got
Emotion Revolution coming soon on Note 4 (Aosp,Miui,Touchwiz, &Nadia kernel) I am ready to note!! Are you ???
Well I rooted my Note 3 and installed some apps like Seeder, Lag Fix and an app which auto restarts my phone once a day, closing all background apps. It has pretty much eliminated all the lag except the Gallery. For that I installed Nexus Gallery from the store. Still I may think twice before upgrading to another Samsung device.
It is being reported by users, that the TMo OTA update that is being pushed out today solves the recent apps button lag. Nice to see Samsung react to an issue and push out an update.
Now I just get to wait for AT&T to release the update and all will be good.

That's cool and all but I never used the fingerprint scanner. I have both devices. And what I prefer over the S6 is of course the changeable battery and also the SD card. Plus the fact that this phone has more potential for development. CM and bliss pop will be here any day. The S6 hasn't had much action in that division.
The LG UI is a nice change from touchwiz has been my main UI since the S2. I think I'm about to sell my S6.

Nope, not at all. I hate fingerprint scanners, as I am not willing to give any more personal information to the rest of the world as I am already am by using a smartphone. For what benefit? There is a plethora of other ways to unlock your phone and since 5.1 they work great for me. The LG G4 has what I want from a phone, a great screen, great camera and a removable battery and sd card slot.
Especially the battery and the missing sd card slot is a deal breaker for me. So the S6 was never really an option. Although the leather option really looks nice and works in day to day use, while glass on a phone is a very dumb idea. I can not count how many times I did replace the back of my girl friends Sony Z3.
LG has of course some things to fix, but the overall concept of the phone is great. Samsung? Not so much!
I want to love my LGG4 but I am having the occasional vertical screen split issue and I am hesitating to get a refurb replacement with my TEP. If I were to trade it in (if even possible) I would go with the Note 5. My kid just got one and it is nice. Real nice! ...and no issues so far!

I was looking at the fingerprint scanner on the $6 and it looks pretty cool, especially how it logs you into websites with it's browser.
Anyone else bored with this phone?

I came across your thread while surfing.. I am a G2 user from past 1 and half year. You know what I am still not bored with it. Infact I got bored with my nexus 4 in same amount of time just because of plain boring vanilla android. [emoji12]
Just love my G2. Running Cloudy 3.3 rom which is a G4 port.. Loving it.
Thinking to upgrade to G4 just for the dual Sim and SD slot.
Regarding s6 it's battery ? life is not that good.
You have a great phone man just love it. [emoji4]

Im one to switch phones every 6 months but this is my first Lg phone and so far its been a great experience. The camera is just ridiculous and the ui dosent bother me near as much as touchwiz. Im happy with my nexus 6 and g4, ill be certain to get the g5 next year if its a huge upgrade.

I absolutely love this phone. The aspect of having removable battery and an sd card slot was the reason I bought this phone and has not regretted it. Now the only thing missing is an unlockable bootloader. But a least we have root for now so I m quite satisfied.

As card slot, removable battery, amazing display and camera front facing and rear, really selfies look much better on this phone. Also feels much better in the hand than any of the s6 line, also love the minimally intrusive ux ui, closest thing to stock you can get on any of the flagships, exception of moto pure.
Fingerprint scanner can't replace the bennifits of this phone.

You're right.
I think it tells a lot about the instability of some people, not just with phones but with everything in general. Some don't know how to be content .
I used to desire wanting a phone and other things so bad and then when I get that thing I felt "bored" after a while and then realized that this will happen with EVERY phone/laptop/car/technology/house/location/etc..
We just have to learn to be content and not let a phone/everything earthly thing be our idol.
See the benefit in what we have and look forward to living our lives.
That fingerprint on the S6 will make the OP "bored" after a while too.
If you're not happy with something because it is defective or too large / too small for you, that's a different issue.
G4 is great but I find it a bit too big because of the bottom bezel preventing me from holding it sometimes. But I still enjoy the phone a lot when I use it.

Because hammer is a simple tool. You don't use it everyday, you don't take it everywhere with you (showing to others is also important lol)
Sometimes you can feel better with phone that runs worse but look better and vice versa. I used note 4 for 2 weeks. I loved it despite the speed not being that great. But it had some serious issues with 3g signal and mobile data was very slow, often no connection at all while traveling. (shiny metal frame also looked ugly after 2 weeks)
I switched to Z3. Great phone in almost every aspect. But it became boring in its perfection of every day usage. However camera was a lot better on Note 4 I knew it and missed it when looking at photos and videos (especially in low light).
I feel like I was always looking for phone that has everything. Yesterday I used S6 edge plus for a while and I'm impressed so far. Looks amazing, camera is superb in auto and also has every manual options that g4 has (normal s6 has no shutter speed control, but I wanted to learn how to play with night shots). Speed and battery life is easily fixed (but so far looked good) with debloating software. But guys the price xD.
I tried to summarize it but it's hard, because I considered Z3 as the best phone I've ever used and everything changed in one day when the back glass cracked itself and Sony didn't want to repair it under warranty. Btw. Sony claims that their phones are no longer waterproof and you shouldn't take them underwater.

I just miss SMemo and the Samsung camera software. If this phone had all the incredible camera options along with it's high def camera and the unmatched SMemo, this phone would be the best available without question.

I have the Sprint variant and just wish the bootloader was unlocked so I could flash ROMs. I love the phone tho.
Anyone disappointed in a few things like I am?
1. Regardless of how you feel, Verizon removing things and adding even more bloatware is beyond nasty. It's low.
2. The battery life is average at best.
3. There is lags. It's there. Apps open slow, typical Samsung UI stuff. It'll never change.
4. I just don't like the edge. It offers nothing and makes hitting a button close to it awkward. Not to mention cases are just bleh due to trying to fit around it.
5. The S-pen has a smaller tip, but I find it less responsive than it used to be.
6. New theme store is meh. Themes I purchased on my s6 aren't there. I think this feature will improve though.
I like the phone, but it definitely doesn't wow me like the Note 3 and Note 4.

I am having way better battery life on the Note 7 than my Galaxy 7. I haven't noticed any lag. I agree, the "edge" is a gimmick.

I use Adguard on occasion as it sometimes bogs down the phone. Love/hate relationship with it.
Well, I get way better battery life than any phone I've ever owned. I end almost every day at 50% and I used to charge by 6pm. Apps open faster than any phone I've ever had and have no lag so far. I love the edge for quick weather and sports scores. I don't love finding a screen protector and case that play nice together. The s-pen seems WAY better to me. I don't use the theme store so I can't comment there. So far, I adore this phone.

Apparently you guys have never had a Nexus. This phone is good, but it does have lag issues that it just shouldn't have in 2016.
And when I say edge, I dont mean edges apps. You don't need to have an edge screen to use the apps you mentioned. They would work just fine if not better on a flat screen like the quick tools Samsung used to use
Not being a jerk, but every phone that gets released, people make wild claims like " 8 day battery life, fastest phone in the world" blah blah. To be fair, there is always someone who makes a thread like this as well. I'm that someone this time.
I like the phone, but it really isn't the holy grail it was made out to be... I feel like it needs an update to clean some stuff up

I like the phone but I don't think it's a huge upgrade over my s7e. I think I'm going to return it and just keep my s7e. Kind of sick of Verizon for removing helpful features from this phone that were meant to be there.

Had a Nexus 6. This blows the doors off of it speed wise. I can actually open the camera and take a picture, answer a phone call, and not have the unlock screen take about 15 seconds to actually unlock.
Makes me wonder if I had a bad device all along. It wasn't like that at first though. Somewhere after 6.0 it slowed down and never recovered regardless of factory resetting.

Concerns:
Future updates, but I knew what I was getting into.
The durability of GG5, but the whole issue may be overblown...time will tell.
Dislikes:
The screen protector I bought. There is already dust under it. Not to mention it must have lifted off the center, as I miss keys all the time. I will sit tight for a while on it and see what else comes out over the next month or so.
Samsung Keyboard - I like Google Keyboard for typing, Samsung S-Pen input for writing, and Google Voice Keyboard. No way to get this combo easily.
Price was steep for this phone, but you get what you pay for. I wanted premium, and got premium.
Buyer's Remorse
Nope. None.
I miss the Ascending Ringtone Volume setting. I can't find it in VZN Note 7. All the good basic ring tones are gone, too.
Someone PLEASE unlock the boot loader on this phone.
Really wasn't expecting to see the different ui was actually looking forward to the new one as this phone was supposed to have the grace ui , so very disappointed in that as it was a feature that was a factor in my buying it its more or less the s7 rebuilt as a note with edge panels, so Im annoyed there. I also don't like the fact that I had to make a custom shortcut for the Samsung cloud service when that was also a feature which was a deciding factor for getting this phone , all in all don't get me wrong the phone is beautiful it runs like a dream its screen is fantastic etc. but I really disagree with the feature removal , the device maintenance app , and the difference in ui these are things that were supposed to make this phone unique and there not there , I mean I really like it but im annoyed at the same time if that makes sense lol. What really sucks is I gave my s7 to my wife and shes ecstatic about it so I cant really return it now cause shes now one with the s7. That and i traded in her old phone.
I agree DBCAB. I don't know what is different in the UI aside from a slightly different settings menu. Is there more?
I am also sick of Verizon. There is just no other carrier with a signal here. They're the reason I went Nexus and tried an iPhone. You never know what features they're going to remove or bloat they're going to force when it comes the all other Android phones.
Sent from my SM-N930V using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm not thrilled about Verizon, the way they tamper with what is already a somewhat compromised ROM is vile. Their latest security update had crapware in it. What more can you say?
The phone is amazing, imo. It absolutely kills the Note 4 which I had, it's not even comparable. I'm using a Nexus 6P, I swore on all that is holy I would never use a locked up Samsung phone again and I can barely put this down. It looks better than any phone I've ever seen, the software is actually...dare I say it, useful? Even the damn iris scanner works well. It's not laggy (yet), and I'm getting better battery than my Nexus. I missed the stylus. I don't know if I can bear a locked down phone, but this is the only one I've tried that makes me think about it A LOT.
My only dislike is how gdamn hard I have to work against Verizon and Samsung to get the most out of it. Sneaking to get Samsung Cloud, downloading an older, superior version of SNote with full capability (wtf is that about?!). Otherwise, wow, quite a phone and I was prepared to hate it loudly.

Just the standard yahoo sports one. When you click on the little gear symbol to customize the edge screens you want, Yahoo is literally the first one I can select. It's pretty basic but I like it for my baseball scores at a glance.

The $900 price tag got to me along with the edge screen so I returned mine for a Galaxy J3 lol. Seriously the Note 7 is nice but between what Verizon dose and the limited choice of screen protectors that stick and cases that do not peal them off made me return the device. I'm looking to ditch Verizon all together so I opted for the cheapest smartphone they had in stock to fulfill my device payment agreement. Surprisingly the J3 isn't all that bad for what I do on the phone.

I wouldn't expect early cases and screen protectors to be perfect til people got a chance to beat on them. I still ordered them though and just got them in today, at least get some protection.

Stuff like the bloat and battery life.
I'm afraid it'll slow down after some time and the battery life is pretty mixed. Some sites show excellent battery life while others show pretty mediocre battery life.

I am cautiously optimistic. I love the phone so far more so than any other previous phone I've had. Certainly Growing Pains being a brand new unit. Battery life is the best of anything I've had so far not as good as some of the ones posted here but much better than my previous phone which I really couldn't ask for more.

Please give me the approval I seek so I know my overpriced piece of plastic I use to look at Facebook and IG every so often is worth it. Lol, it's a great phone though.

Google is full of click-bait articles that places like Forbes has people write. They intentionally write biased things to get people worked up. If you need to READ someone else tell you about possible problems with your phone, why bother having the phone?
The phone is the best made to date. Battery life is very good. As an entire package there is not a better device you could buy currently. What a worry to have. In 6 months something a bit better will come around, but I don't know if you should bother buying it - I am sure there will be articles written about it that could cause worry in one way or another.

An excellent phone with a very very good battery life.
Mine is S8 duos exynos. Wi-Fi, BT, BT tethering, 4G, location services, auto sync all on.
Location history is off though and it does make a noticeable difference.
When the guy says Bloat and Battery Life I'm like puzzled look.
My S8 has almost no bloat for the first time in ever and my battery is amazing really.
Lasts easily 19 hours without a charge.
I think people want to moan when it's really not justified, that and they're probably Apple Bots lol
yes
Don't read Reviews on Forbes and the likes, my battery life is excellent to say the least and there's no bloat
overall like the phone but a couple of features i was used to our dear sammy has decided to remove from this phone
1) night clock - used this everyday and miss it like crazy.
2) Ability to select a folder for lock screen images and have them change every time the phone turns on.

Meh, as always it differs... I don't own the S8 (yet ) but do have the S7 (and have had all the galaxy S's so far).
I actually just read the forbes review and a large number of their remarks are 'personal' and/or 'choices you make when buying'.
Camera performance: it focusses on a few points instead of the entire picture or some other points. But does mention the 'overall' picture depends on the user.
Performance: I now have the S7 for over a year and do not recognize the 'slowing down after a few months' at all. It's pretty damn smooth and stays so for me (perhaps also a snapdragon vs exynos thing?)
Battery life: Different people can get different experiences, hell even I sometimes have a crazy drain... That's the thing with android, so much variations all.
Volume/bixby/fingerprint scan: Yeah, the bixby button is nonsense but you know it's there... Same with placement of volume buttons and fingerprint scanner. You can try them in the store and see if they work for you. Location of the sensor wouldn't be mine but it's something you can try out yourself and see if it will be an issue for you.
Anyway, still pretty interested in the S8 but I'm afraid it's a bit too tall for me... Might get it when the price is down a bit and/or I can get it nice 2nd hand. Samsung was always very bloated and while it could be a lot better it's actually not too bad now imo (with the S7). Touchwiz has improved a ton as well. But that's just samsung, you know what you get into.
