That's because it is required by law. But pretty sure it won't work if you put the whole phone on mute.
So all new phones are like that now? My note 5 can mute shutter sound

This app works:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.silentcam
EnforcedStreamSilencer.apk was working well in S6, even app is unistalled later. Do anyone knows an app like that? Above app doesn't work when unistalled.
Wow, I'm on Verizon and even my S7E allows creep mode...I mean, turning off the shutter sound. Odd that Sprint variant does that.
AT&T version also allows the shutter sound to be turned off.
just put the phone on vibrate and the shutter will not sound....it's just another step to take, but it works..
I just realized that with the update Sprint pushed out in the last 2 weeks, it turned the shutter sound on. When I had gotten the s7e it didn't make a sound. Looking at the options in the phone and the interwebs, there is no way to turn it off except for turning the 'system' volume down all the way. Which is OK since MEdia/notifications/ringer can stay all the way up. Not sure what I might miss out on, but that's what the status-notify is for.
I really miss root. So many little nuances that I never realized I needed...been spoiled since the Original Epic I guess.

I don't think so. In my international S7 edge the option 'Shutter sound' does not exist.
This is something Sprint has done for years now. Without rooting, the only way to shut it off is to turn system volume down.
Hard to believe that Verizon didn't neuter this also.
In many countries all over the world it's I permitted by law to disable camera shutter sounds, to prevent people being severity shot by pervs ?
But most of the time muting all sounds should do the trick. Happy perving?

That's strange that on my 935K phone (Korean version) I bring all the sounds down, but camera shutter clicks loud anyway So I am looking for another solution. Silent Cam didn't work as well..
just go to sound, on "system sound" bring slider all the way left (silence), so the shutter will not sound will phone ringtone and others still sound as intended. you are welcome

I like it. Means I can grab the phone before it gets loud.... think of it as a pre-ring.
Yep, mine does it too. I like it so I don't get a full volume blast right away when the phone rings, making crap my pants.

That's exactly what it is for. Just in case you have your phone to your ear already it isn't blaring. it's like a warning feature.

its how samsung made it.. all of these phones are like that first 2 seconds are very low then out of no where its loud... it doesnt even seem gradually thats why it sounds weird.... but its made like that! so dont worry about it
I think all samsung mobiles have this feature !
I had 4 Samsung mobiles and all of them had that feature !
I don't know why Samsung done this but I think there is a secret about it !
Oh ok awesome, thanks for clearing that up. This is my first Samsung, I've had mainly HTC's so I wasn't sure if my phone had a bug that I need to fix or something.
The volume it came originally like that cuz I went on YouTube & watch videos on the volume & it's originally like that. It doesn't bother me. I just needed to know why.
Received my one a few days ago and other than not being able to remove the power saver notification I love this phone.
I do have one concern though. I'm not sure it's a problem but what does everyone think about the call quality? Comparing it to my Sensation it almost sounds like the person on the other end is speaking into a cup.
I haven't had a new phone in quite some time so it might just be something different.. or it might be a problem. What's everyone's opinions?
ATT version here on their network and I think it's the best call quality I've had on a phone, I've used the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 weeks before this aswell so, *shrug*

i have spent about 70 minutes talking on the phone since i got it yesterday afternoon, didn't notice any call quality issues. comparing it to galaxy note 2, nexus 4, and iphone 4.
Compared to the iPhone 5 on iMobile - night and day. HTC is superior.
good question. There is a lot of hissing going on at times. discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235800&highlight=hissing
Hope it gets sorted, this could possibly have the worse call quality I've ever experienced.

I had that phone and the call quiality was awesome, so it must be a problem in your device.
Assuming they are using what Nokia uses then it should be quite good.
Me too, compared with iphone 5, HTC one is realy good and loud
Thanks for the replies. When my local T-Mobile store gets them in stock I'll go in and try and do some comparisons.
To remove power saver notification just long press on the notification and go into the app info and force stop it! This will only stop the notification from appearing and will not stop anything else!

I use my phone extensively for work, and sometimes I take calls in the office (very low background noise) and sometimes in the loading bays (where there's always some sort of moving/construction/drilling etc). Today, while in the loading bay calling up a vendor, the vendor on the other side of the line commented that there were "like no background sounds" and asked me if I was in the office.
This is coming from a Galaxy Nexus, and I've been very pleased with call quality so far.

Interesting... I'm on Trickdroid and was able to remove it. Wish I knew another way. Sorry guys.
Easy to test, go to a very quiet room. Really quiet. Put your phone to your ear while screen off and listen. (Not phone off)
You will hear a faint sound, static, cracking well some kind of noise.
This is nothing new, and not just bound to this phone. However I had this issues only on the Nexus 4 and never noticed it on other phones I had.
It becomes a bit annoying while in call, really quiet room, and every pause, when both parties are not talking.
I think only option is learn to live with it? As if the numerous threads from N4 and other devices are true, this is a HW fault on all devices. Some ppl just do not hear it. What varies is the intensity, which ppl reported that exchanged their devices.
Is there someone on some variant not hearing it? (State your age as well)
Is there someone who exchanged their device based on this problem and got a new one with a different level of the noise?
Mine is international LG D802
I do hear the pops and squeals when I'm on a call, but not otherwise. VZW version, rooted, stock rom, "A" version of modem/radio.

The sound that you experience, since its through your BT as well, might be normal connection/call sounds. I have this really on all phones even sometimes on iPhone. But if its something tha tyou do not expect to hear, and have it constantly , bring it for repairs, I do not have somehting out of the ordinary in the calls, except what I described in the OP.
What I mean its really like static electricity, cracking sounds. But its faint, you won't notice it in normal environment, at least not when you do not know what to look for. There are youtube videos for the N4 with the sound I mean. cant listen to it now, as I am at work but I think something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wOxtzStUZ4
you really need a quiet environment, put your ear to the earpiece.
Also thanks for your post!
I am on ATT and noticed this and I was thinking about returning it but I tested the display model at the ATT store and the same thing. I tested an Iphone 4s and the same thing with the earpiece. I think this is more common than people think because you really have to be in a quiet setting to actually hear it. Thanks

My ears or better brain adjusted... same way you adjust to every annoying sound after a while. It is there... but you stop caring - hearing it.
I do not believe there is a software fix. If your problem is the one that I described, new hw might help.
But as I said. I adjusted ...
Definitely seems to be hardware problem. If I knew about it earlier I would never connect headphones and charger at the same time. Symptoms: static noise @ approx. 120bpm from both speakers, while phone in deep sleep.
Tried uninstalling v4a drivers, app, poweramp, flashing different kernels, clearing caches, and what so not.
I don't want to raise hope, but I found temporary workaround. I'm on stock kk, and I use g2 tweaksbox and gravitybox to get statusbar aosp quicksetting tiles. There is a compass tile. If I leave it ON there is no more noise. At first I thought that maybe this prevents phone from deep sleeping, but bbs is showing that phone sleeps well. Have not tested standby battery impact yet.

Hi,
Thanks for the remainder, as I noticed latest @dorimanx kernel eliminates this (from v 8) and my itchy fingers installed Viper4Android again and yes I struck my luck the distortion starts again...
My conclusion is an option between have better audio performance in mid to high volume level. But, lived my days with G2 enjoying the distort...
Or uninstall everything about viper4android and listen to flat music beat...
And I choose ingore the distort and drive away with awesome audio performance in my bluetooth car audio....
Cheers,
Hey, do you have xposed? I noticed that if I enable compass in quicktiles, there will be no more crackling. But I'm not sure about battery. So I use this when it's quite, in the evening, and I start hearing cracks, I just turn on compass.

The option is not on every Note 4 device. My SM-N910C doesn't have that. Apparently from what I've heard Koreans are obliged by law to have the sound whenever they use a camera.
I've also heard rooted Note 4 can get rid of this, but you'll have to ask someone else on how exactly it's done.
If rooted you can modify the csc settings to make the camera shutter menu appear. It's present in all Samsung roms, just not enabled on some of them.
The most convenient way to modify the csc features is to use an app called note 2 hidden features. Works on all Samsung devices, don't let the name fool you.
Check out "Note 2 Hidden Settings"

You need a rooted Note 4, right.
Easiest method is just erasing or renaming the shutter sound file; usually called something like "Shutter.ogg".
With the Note 4, I suspect it's \system\media\audio\ui\Shutter.ogg
But beware: With other Samsung models (like the S4), this just deactivated the regular, single shot shutter sound. The sound for that "sequence shots" (if you keep the shutter button pressed) was still there.
So you buy a flagship phone..... and then you need to root it for turn off the shutter sound... ? Well I am glad that I not use the camera that much....
enforced stream silencer will do it

Hi all. Just got my Moto X Pure few days ago. But I noticed that my speakers are cracking at certain sounds. Specially playing the ringtone "Zeta", crackling occurs. Not clear. Does not happen with every sound. Thinking its a defective in my phone. Can you test yours playing the Zeta tone and let me know. Thanks!
I can achieve the same crackle playing that tone ONLY at max volume. I tried different audio settings (balanced or bassboost or off) all crackle at MAX volume.
Thanks. But my does not matter if its in max volume. Thanks for the reply. Moto X Pure, Returning....

I posted on the official forums about this problem and already got one reply: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/c751a88e77?commentId=981431
I chatted with Motorola support and they had me run through some TSing steps: Reboot, clear cache, factory reset
The chat support couldn't look up my IMEI for some reason, so they gave me a case number and have escalated it. I should get a call in 24-48 hours.
I'm not sure if I even want to return it if this issue is widespread. No sense in returning only to receive a phone with the same problem or perhaps MORE problems.
At Max it does have some crackling but at one step below it doesn't, and it's still better than the next best thing you can get, due to it's front facing speakers. Remember it's a phone. Spend money on a wireless speaker or headphones, this isn't supposed to be your personal boombox.

That sounds an awful lot like "you're holding it wrong". I've owned a lot of Android phones and none that I remember had it this bad or even close.
If Motorola doesn't want me using the phone that loud, they should not allow me to increase the volume that much. They may simply need to lower the gain with a software update. Until I know for sure that pretty much everyone has this problem, I'm going through Moto's support channels for a resolution.
Looking at the mixers_path.XML file, the gains do seem to be rather high.

I have not tinkered with that file or the settings within before. A quick Google seems to suggest that screwing with those settings can cause similar distortion. Sounds more and more like something they'll have to tweak in an OTA.

I have had it enabled as it comes enabled by default. While troubleshooting this problem I discovered this feature and disabled the EQ in the sound settings menu. It mitigates the crackling but doesn't make it go away entirely.
Sorry if it's happening ALL the time even at low volumes but just about any speaker system cranked up to full volume will snap-crackle-pop unless you are running very expensive speakers with very powerful, clean amplification! I mean come on...can we even call what they put in a cell phone a "speaker"?? Maybe if you were the size of a grasshopper you could call them "speakers"!

Probably because it's easy to miss. It only seems to happen at max or near max volume and with only certain sounds. It might also only be 10% of the phones or something have it. It would be very easy to have one of the 10% and not notice unless you're looking for it.
It's not a huge deal at all... don't get me wrong. I'm particular about my phones though, so it is enough for me to consider looking elsewhere.
I tried to capture it on video, but it doesn't pick up well. It is worse in person. https://vid.me/tavk
Well I couldn't hear anything bad through my laptop with headphones on so I hope it is tolerable. TY
Well for me, I have to bring the volume down 4 notches so theres no rattle. Another thing I noticed is that when choosing a notification sound, between each choice, theres crackle and pop coming from my speaker. Weird. Also, rattle is from top speaker only. Seems like for ringtones, the phone uses both speakers, but only through the bottom for notifications. When playing music, even at maxx volume, i don't notice the rattle. Well, as much as I love this phone, i think I'm returning it. Since its a widespread problem, maybe the next revision, they "will" install different speaker. Guess the wait for N5x begins for me.
