Rooted Before KNOX Fix - No Chance of OTA or Return?

As soon as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was available at T-Mobile, I bought it. And as soon as I got it home, I rooted it. Only later I found out about the KNOX security counter which I unknowingly tripped when I rooted it. I can't be the only one who has done this. Luckily I haven't had any issues or defects with my Note 3. But if I had, I would be stuck, wouldn't I? And if there are OTA fixes for bugs, which I heard there were, I'm also stuck, aren't I?
I just wanted to know, are some of these OTA fixes being provided via zip files that can be flashed for those unfortunate enough to root and trip the KNOX sensor before the XDA-Fix was released?
Also, I don't know if this is the first phone with this problem but has anyone had experience with a defective device that is KNOX-compromised but still received a replacement unit?
I know I'm grasping at leaves in the wind but the more I started to dwell on the possibility of future issues, it really made me feel uneasy, especially after paying a full $801.44 for this beast.

Although I did not root straight away as I was certain an update might come out fairly close to the launch.. which it did... and as soon as that happened I rooted... only to find 2 days later that another update was released and a KNOX friendly root method came out! I was so frustrated by this, but I guess my root needs were pressing.
So I would also like to know how I can update my phone now, as I used CF Auto Root which keeps the stock recovery. I have learned a lot about these issues in the past with other phones but all this KNOX stuff has muddied the solutions somewhat.

I think there should have been a big warning somewhere to let people know that triggering knox you will lose your warranty.
I didn't root right away so I am lucky.
All my devices get rooted within minutes of receiving. For some reason I said "naw I will leave this alone for awhile"

I am in the same boat, rooted as soon as I got it, knox now void.
I struggle to see why it should bother me. I can think very few eventualities where I would want to claim on the warranty, and maybe I'm naive to the way companies treat those claiming under warranty, but if a fault is hardware based, why should what I do to the software stop them from accepting responsibility? If the battery explodes it wasn't cause I deleted bloatware changed some UI elements.

I'm used to this sort of thing, I rooted immediately as I'm a typical power user that makes avid use of being able to read/write/delete system files in order to improve my overall experience with the phone.
The loss of the warranty is the only biggie, however, I ensured everything works like I feel it should from the speakers to signal strengths. Then I got insurance through squaretrade on the phone so I'm not particularly worried about much else now. If something does go wrong with the phone, it's almost guaranteed to be an insurance matter at this point.
Not receiving OTAs is fairly irrelevant; I'm probably going to stick with with stock or stock-based rom with this phone as I have been thrilled with the experience of the latest iteration of Touchwiz and I know I will always be able to get the latest updates through XDA as this community is just that amazing here. So yes, to directly answer your question, it is very likely that either on the general note 3 XDA forums or one of the carrier specific Note 3 XDA forums you'll be able to get the updates that correct particular elements of the software. So you won't ever miss out on anything, however you'll have to be more diligent in keeping up on the releases now since you won't just get a notification about them.

Same boat, but half the OTA updates are to unroot us anyways, and fortunately you can still flash the good ones.
Just WATCH OUT if you make a back-up. DO NOT FLASH RECOVERIES until you read about the efs, and brickloop

[Q] Question about all this Knox mess

All I see in almost every thread is Knox this and Knox that and all the concern. I'm not well versed so someone please educate me if I'm wrong but if all it is for is a warranty issue/concern, then who gives a crap.
I mean, I started with Palm OS devices, migrated to Win OS, transfered to iOS and graduated to Android. Over all those years I never lost a phone, had one stolen or dropped and broke one. So really, unless a lot of you guys are really careless or abusive, why all the concern for "warranty"?
Unless there is a bigger picture I'm missing, I don't get it. So it is just warranty or something else?

yeah just warranty only when you root, but there are ways around it like you said who cares , i rooted mine in 5 minutes of having it

We have galaxy s3, note 2 which dying from sds syndrome never rooted never flashed totally stock, before them and when came out 4.0.4 ics update many galaxy s2 bricked when owner tried to factory reset, faulty wifi faulty gps and many many other. For these reasons people wants to have warranty ok.

I understand it affecting corporate materials and such but no company I know is out buying a fee hundred or more N3's
rooting versus warranty, sure I get that. I have had VZW CSRs try to tell me that crap and not want to troubleshoot things that were network related only to later find out it had nothing to do with my device. They are trained to check and shutdown any support possibly offered.
But this Knox crap, I could care less. My last few devices I paid for off contract (aka full price).

I'm in the market for a new phone and I'm planning to hold out for the upcoming S5. What I'm curious to know, is should i really care much about Knox? I've seen a lot of very negative responses from people for it being a deal breaker on getting a Samsung phone. I'm not so worried because as a guy that unlocks his phone, I never expected to have much luck with warranty claims anyway. Is there something I'm missing besides just no warranty? If I don't go with the S5, I would probably just grab a Nexus 5 from Google.

in my opinion, as a personal use I don't care about knox. Knox is all about securing your handset data. You can get others security tools for your handset from play store. But if you use it for business might be you need to consider it. That's my opinion.

Knox z only for security & warranty purposes.If u don't worry about warranty then samsung is best there out for you.Also S5 would be much ahead of Nexus5

KNOX - New Samsung trend?

With Knox crippling root (for now at least, hopefully something will come out later) leaving you open to carrier OTA imposed updates and pretty much not control over your phone, I wonder, is this going to hurt Samsung sales in the future? I can tell you this, last night when I became aware I could not root without tripping Knox I was not really happy. This crippled me from using Titanium Backup to restore my apps with their data and moving my ringtones to the system folder where they should be (I had problems on the Note 1 when I had them in the sd card). Now, last night I take an undesired OTA upgrade followed by all my apps updating as well. Not being able to stop the upgrade really did pissed me off, is my phone, not AT&T... I had to restore one app to the previous version and I have no idea what else needs to be rolled back...
Man, I was pissed and having got the phone on Saturday I am really considering return it but I had preorder the spigen screen protector and a new case even before buying the Note 3 and they are installed. I bet if I return it someone will come with a fix next day...:silly::silly: and I would have lost the screen protector.... If this is going to be the norm for Samsung, as much as I hate it, I will not get getting that Note 4 upgrade I was thinking on getting or any of their phones. I think there are other phone manufacturers as good (LG comes to mind)...
What do you guys think?

Let me explain in very simple words - AT&T has had locked bootloaders for some time, and that has not hurt their sales in any relevant way - you are still their customer, and while we are all *****ing and moaning about the lack of freedom people are still feeding AT&T possibly thousands of US$/year.
So it boils down not so much to "freedom" but to having actual choice and having the consumers vote with their wallet. My current Note 3 can probably last me 2-3 years from now, but when that comes close to an end I will most certainly try to not buy a Samsung + Knox phone if I have a choice! (by that time I will be hoping in something like the Ubuntu phone dual-booting Ubuntu 64 and Android 64).

Lol. Knox doesn't stop root, it only kills warranty. Why should Samsung the warranty if you've modified the device?

Knox don't prevent root in itself, I understand that but it does indirecly since it would void the warranty. If I brick my phone I do agree Samsung should not have to fix it but in the past Samsung has declined fixing hardware issues because the software in the device haw been modified even if that modification has nothing to do with the software.

All the manufacturers will do that if they find you have rooted. The only difference is that both Samsung and HTC have a reliable way of tracking it.

Opinions Note4 vs Nexus 6 (jump and knox)

I would be ALL for the Note 4. The S pen is a huge plus! My issue with the note4 is I root my phone.
Now I know T-moble does not look for the knox flag now with trade ins on jump; but that doesn't meant samsung will not make the start. Knox being tripped in the future may cause issues with trade in using Tmobile Jump. Thoughts opinions? Please reply to this!

I don't think that is a worry. Beyond the fact that half the T-Mobile agents won't even know what you are talking about, that would be a headache for T-Mobile. They release phones with open boot loaders, and they claim to be uncarrier.
I would worry about it. Worse comes to worse...don't trade it in, sale it.

Simple answer..
don't root your phone if you're this paranoid...

Will keep the Note 4. Not having an extSd slot is a deal breaker. Don't trust keeping all files in Dropbox or a. cloud

Tmobile dosent care and won't care the phones are sent back to there repair building and its broke down for parts or all flags are Clearlake sold as a refurbished

I really wouldn't worry about it. I managed to rock my s4 on the cyanogen nightlies with the latest modems without ever tripping knox. Thanks to buying the phone when it first came out and it coming with the 4.2 bootloader.
I tripped knox the second day I had this phone. No regrets. I'm rooted, team win recovery, running firekat v4. Haven't seen anyone with a better phone. And, Austin is pretty tech savvy.
If I needed to return or exchange or jump i would use the same plan as when we used to worry about the flash counter.
1. Odin to stock.
2. And, don't sound like you know how to program cell phones you are talking to Samsung or Tmobile.

There is not a better phone currently or in the near future.

I returned a rooted s4 to Samsung directly with the flash counter tripped because I broke the back camera flashing those cm nightlies and was concerned about messing the phone up further trying to unroot. Got a brand new s4, european back cover, extra battery, and extra set of headphones out of it.
All you have to do is Odin to stock.

Did you fully read my OP? I said I know they do not look for Knox flags NOW. I am worried Samsung may make them START in the future. If I go with the note4 ill be on it till there is a note 5.
You dont think the nexus6 compares? The bigger screen is nice so is lolypop and ALWAYS having the newest android ahead of everyone else.

The nexus 6 has some major flaws. Camera is a downgrade. Big time. Same as every other nexus. No microsd card slot is a joke. I don't want my files on the cloud. I don't want to not have access to stuff because of a bad cell signal, no cell signal, whatever else beyond my control.
The phone is also gigantic. It is bigger than the iPhone 6 plus which is a gigantic phone to begin with. It is also pretty damn thick. Battery isn't that great considering all of this.
I am happy with my Note 4 and would take it over any nexus garbage. To get the new OS sooner you get downgraded hardware.
Only thing nice on the nexus is the screen. But even then it just matches the Note 4. Everything else is a downgrade.

In no way shape or form does the Nexus 6 compare to the Note 4. I could care less about fast upgrades. I prefer to let the beta testers work out the bugs and get a properly working rom when it's ready.

The screen on the Nexus isn't even nice... bigger yes, but it is of lesser quality.
