I have a LG G2 with AT&T that I love. I also have the Sony Smartwatch 2 which is good but doesnt really compare against the Samsung Gear (for my needs).
I would love to keep the LG G2 (I switched from a S4 and compared to the LG G2, the screen on the LG G2 is much better, my opinion)
I did a search and noticed that this question was asked before but it has been a while.
I know the Gear has been working almost flawlessly with the HTC One. I am wondering if anyone has tried it with the LG G2 lately with any luck?
The last thing I want to do is switch back to the S4 just for the Gear.
Thanks

I just want Google to come out with a Nexus watch so it can work with any Android smartphone. I don't know if Samsung in the 2nd generation of the Galaxy Gear will open it up to all Android devices or keep it to themselves to make it exclusive so that you have to buy a Samsung smartphone.
They'll keep it exclusive, because that is what apple would do.

I concur. Why limit your potential clients. It's not like there is anything advanced going on there. I'm sure the software and programming is hacked to hell first, to make it work, and second, to keep it exclusive though. Might make it very difficult to make it universally open. We'll have to see what happens, though I won't be picking it up. I hate Samsung hardware.
I'm sure LG will jump on the boat. Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Motorola all have watches in the pipe or being released soon, so it's just a matter of time.

I have the Sony SW2 and paired with my LG G2. The watch is... well.. Ok. I really hope LG release something with their Flex screen technology and one that is more functional than the SW2. :good:

Funny you mention the flex screen. This is why I have almost no doubt a watch will be released. Rather than have a slab for a screen, they can create a watch that curves with the wrist. In addition, the ultra low power requirements of OLED screens will lead to outstanding battery life.
I would definately prefer a Nexus watch or LG watch (assuming they are better than the Gear). I have the Sony SmartWatch 2, and its very very weak comparing to the Gear.
It may not be that easy making a smartwatch. Look at Sony, they are a Monster company that has been making some pretty smart watches for at least 50 years. I would have thought they would have the best smartwatch. But its Samsung who currently hold the crown.
Back to the topic, Anyone tried getting the Gear to work with the LG G2. We seriously dont get that much support here for the G2 vs HTC One and S4 etc.
With a tear in my eye I announce that I went out and bought a Samsung Gear and Samsung S4. I have retired my G2 and will sell it on craigslist (along with the Sony SmartWatch 2). Going from S4 to G2 to S4 really makes you appreciate the G2. Hopefully someone figures out a way to get the Gear to work with the G2 in the next month or so. Oh G2... you will be missed.
Well y'all, it's been a long run with LG but I am jumping ship to the OnePlus One. I have no animosity, but just feel it is time for a change. I have used LG since the Optimus G (great phone, not so great battery), all the way up to the Optimus G Pro, the G2, the G Flex, and now the G3. I received an invite to get the OnePlus, and decided to go for it.
I'd like to thank all of the great developers working on the phone, especially @jcase, @autoprime, @thecubed, and the many others that tirelessly worked at getting root, and a bootloader bypass to this device. I am glad I got to be a part of this phones development journey from the start (first phone I bought on launch day). I am selling my G3 (on Swappa currently for 355. If you tell me you're from XDA, I'll cut you a deal), but I will be active here providing answers to questions I can! Thank you all again!
You just made my eyes teary...
Farewell brother !!
Hope that OnePlus One brings you more happines !!

It's OK, but can you post pros and cons of OPO compared to G3? Is OPO that much better overall, or you miss something of G3? Is OPO camera the same or better quality?
Not to start a flame wars but to get truly and unbiased comparison from one who have owned both devices
I had both for about three weeks and out of the box i preferred The OPO. Over The course of three weeks I started missing The G3 for certain things. Wireless charging, smaller footprint, sd card, having an extra battery for my Orlando days, the list goes on and on. The battery life of The OPO was badass, but some things didn't feel refined enough though. The OPO went to my brother in the end. If there was anything i miss more than anything about The OPO, it would be that sandstone back it had. It felt pretty amazing.

I'm keeping both devices. OnePlus One deal breaker... battery not removable, No expandable memory card slot. LG G3 deal breaker... locked bootloader. Can't get the best of both world eh?
Indeed a nice farewell. All the best with OPO.
Bye ,don't let the door hit you in the ... I'm joking ...
2SHAYNEZ
i have both and everytime i look at the two screens side by side i go nuts and throw away the OPO
Funny, I did the opposite. Sold my 1p1 and bought the G3.

Have you been living under a rock or are you just complaining that the bump website hasn't been put up that will allow developers to bump their ROMS and Kernels for use on the G3? If you haven't heard about bump, then a little reading is in your future, but the short story is that we now have the ability to flash whatever we want using the G3 bootloader via a method called "bump."
And here it starts it seems every one is leaving the g3 crap.

Its just not off one thread there are tons of people switching to other phones and a few devs. So yes i guess you know every thing i was reading and I guess I cant have my own opinion or state any thing on xda any more with a remark. All i was stating that is sucks devs and some user are switching.

I said im keeping both devices. I'm just laying out the differences in both devices i own which is a "FACT". For LG G3 our bootloader is locked. XDA devs did a amazing job in bypassing it. On the LG(Company) part they are not going to do anything to unlock our bootloader officially. I do know the method called "bump" by the way.

You know, I like my G3, but I got a OnePlus for my sweetie, and I really like it simplicity.. so I got one for myself to play with. Still using the G3 as my DD. I'm on the fence about switching, as they both have some interesting features. If I could 1080 the screen and all apps work/present well, I'd stay G3. The 4K is awesome, though.
Good luck.
Wow, that's a strong move. Although G3 is pretty much locked, 1p1 is too rough.. overall rubbish.
I'd suggest keeping both and then deciding if that's what you want.
But it's been a month now, eh.. guess it's too late
hi guys.
i had a g2 some time ago and moved to a htc m8. but i liked the g2 a lot, very good battery and screen, and was really fast in kitkat.
i want to buy one for my father, he have a lumia 730 now and the device is ok but wp have too many problems and limitations, also a moto g 3rd gen is a little bit more expensive than g2.
i want to know if the device is still good or was ruined by updates, i never saw it running lollipop and it will probably not receive marshmallow. what do you guys think?
Lollipop on the g2 is perfect - the design is much cleaner and more intuitive. While I like vanilla kitkat more than vanilla lollipop, I hated kk on the g2.
If price is equal, the g2 is much better than the moto g(any generation). While the g2 a good phone, it's definitely not perfect and I would consider all of your available options - there are also a ton of newer flagship phones on the used market and chinese manufacturers are releasing new ones all the time which rival phones many times in price. If your father likes the design and button layout and you can get it for a good price, then it's fine. Either way, anything that isn't bottom of the barrel will be miles ahead of that lumia(or any windows phone, really).
There's a whole thread dedicated to this topic over here.
Hello All,
I am currently pondering a trade in offer from Verizon to trade in my LG4 (4th phone thanks to the board brick issues) for an SG 7 Edge.
Already the ability to root and return my grandfathered unlimited data plan to its full glory has me giddy.
However I would like the advice of the forum before I do it as my reasoning might not be the best at the idea of getting rid of the LG4 is something i've wanted to do for a while.
Advice welcomed.. Opinions.. Experiences.. What yah got.
Thanks XDA!

I see. Well I came from LG G4 H818P, and development is very very scarce. Really got me itching to sell the phone just because of that. Actually the device itself is really great, but on development side, it sucks big time.
Then I decided to move to S7 Edge SM-G935FD, and to say the least, the device itself is really a BIG step up from LG G4. On development side, it has plenty and well supported, though it does not have AOSP ROMs, there are still enough mods that can be done with TW based custom ROMs.
I suggest moving to S7 edge is a really great decision.
Hah,I changed my g4 after the board died. S7e is a huge improvement over g4. Although, g4 felt better for me. I'm not sure about the camera, I feel like the g4 was better comparing to mine S7e(isocell sensor). Before you move to s7 edge check if you like its body. The edges aren't as useful, at least for me, and getting good tempered glass is a pain.
Optimus G, G2, and G3 (current phone) owner here. Is this phone going to be a unlocking nightmare like previous LG phones? IE bump on the G3? Deciding between the G6, S8+, or waiting even longer. Rooting and unlocking is a must, and if this phone is going to be as finicky as previous LGs I think it might be time to jump ship after 5 years with LG.
Edit: Just wondering about peoples predictions, because I scanned the forums for the V30 and G5.

Well, the carrier S8's have an even lower chance of root than the G6 if the S7 has shown anything. Carrier S7's can't even have custom roms, only modifications to the stock rom.

Thanks for the info. Samsung always had lively development back in the day, so I guess I just assumed it would have it now. I'll keep an eye on the G6 and S8 forums to see how things go. It really sucks that the HTC U ultra doesn't have a headphone jack. I would have picked it up in a heartbeat. HTC really shot themselves in the foot. For now, I guess I might just stick with the G3. It has EVERYTHING new phones have except for a fingerprint scanner. Only thing underpowered is the GPU.

I highly forsee the G6 getting root. At least the T-Mobile version should since it can be bootloader unlocked it seems.
No idea on the G6 yet, but the V20 has/had it as an option, and I haven't found a reason to give up my hotspot with it yet. I love Samsung phones, but not having the option of it, is a killer for me.
G3 I bought early and got it rooted early. G6 I'm hoping for an early breakthrough, wouldn't hold off buying (though I'm waiting for a good sale on the us997 or VZW variants), as rooting became progressively tougher as holes were plugged.
Recent Samsungs (including contemporaries of the g3, IIRC) have been really tightly locked down.
I really love/want root. After almost 3 years with a rooted G3 I'd hate not being able to use AdAway, XPrivacy, etc.
It's getting harder and harder to root. And sadly there is less and less demand as well as the market being spread thinner. While I would love root (miss Titanium Backup as well as Tasker) to be able to remove or freeze unnecessary apps, I'm actually really happy with the phone as is.
