OK3 - new icon in notification bar? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just let my phone update from OG5 to OK3.
Now I have a new icon in the notification bar. But, it's greyed out, so I didn't even see it at first.
Any idea what this icon is?
It looks like the 4G and Wifi icons mashed together into one. The upper left quadrant of the icon says 4G. The upper right has a lightning bolt. The lower left is the WiFi symbol. The lower right is the up/down data transfer arrows.
Like I said, it's all greyed out. I still have the regular WiFi and 4G LTE icons in the notification bar as well and they are both lit up and working. The new icon is between the Bluetooth icon (on the left) and the regular WiFi icon (on the right).
What does it all mean?!?! Oh, the humanity!

I believe that is download booster. You should be able to turn it off in settings>more networks>download booster

Ah HA! Yes! I just verified, that is what it is!
I saw DB in my settings the other day and turned it on to see if it makes any difference. I didn't notice the new icon at the time, so I thought it was something with the OK3 update.
Thank you!
ps. Any reason I would not leave that on? I have Unlimited Data, so I don't care if it results in higher data usage.

With unlimited data I cant see many downsides to leaving it on? It might use more battery when you are downloading large files (in exchange for downloading them faster?)

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

[Q] Network Status Symbol?

Hi guys, does anyone know where I can find explanations of the Epic 4G network status notifications? Sprint has inconveniently left out any explanations about the status notifications in their Basics Guide.
Specifically I'm confused about the 3G network status symbol. Sometimes it shows "3G" with up and down arrows underneath, sometime it shows the letter "D" underneath, and sometimes the symbol is missing entirely when the signal strength is 5 bars! When the symbol is absent, attempts to access the web are met with a "network error."
I assume that a missing 3G symbol means I have no EVDO coverage. However, shouldn't I at least have 1xRTT access? What does the symbol for that look like?
Thanks in advance!
I've noticed that when you are in 1x coverage it still shows as 3G. If the indicator is completely missing then you won't have data at all.

Thanks! It would have been nice for them to include a chart showing what each symbol means.
Wondering if anyone know what that D symbol is i get it constantly and its so annoying. Sometimes i have full bars then bars go away, then return only to show the D symbol.
I believe it means that the 3G radio has entered the Dormant state. This means that it's not actively transmitting or receiving data, which is a good thing most of the time! It's actually quite helpful, because this can help you diagnose whether or not the radio is being used more often than necessary. For instance, if the two arrows are simply white, which means no data through, your radio could still be running at power. Only when it shows 'D' does it mean it is now in power-saving mode.

That doesn't really have anything to do with the symbol being displayed. That just means that the connection to the server was dropped - which would happen regardless of whether or not the symbol is displayed. I've had the same issue you've described happen to me, but it's also happened on other phones. This just means that the TCP connection that you've got open to the other host was lost.
In this sense, displaying the 'D' makes it even more useful, because then you can cancel the transaction and start over. Most other phones would just simply display the blank bars. The radios go dormant on *any* phone, because otherwise, your battery would last about an hour or so at the most. The Epic is nice enough to tell you the radio's state in the status icon.

Another DJ05 Question

I have and love the new DJ05 update I just have one question. Ever since I installed it I have a new Icon on the top status bar of my phone that is like a diamond box with a plus sign in it and then off to the right side there are some curved shaped bars that get progressively bigger like a voice or signal strength icon. At first I thought it was my GPS but when I turn GPS off that symbol stays there and when I am using GPS then I get a different GPS icon. I'm not sure what this symbol is and I was just curious if anyone knows what it is.
Ok so I just unticked all the location services in the location settings and the icon remains on the phone but the curved bars next to it go away if they are all unticked, so it must have to do with my current location. Maybe it is just a little notification saying it knows where it is.
Hey, why don't we tell the world that we have dj05? There was a reason that you're supposed to not talk about it on forums...
Please refer to irc.
Retrokid's updated AOSP theme gets rid of the icon by making it transparent. That's the only way to actually get rid of it at this time as far as I know.
Thatdudebutch's SuperDark theme also gets rid of it.

[Q] Data static icon "H" = what?

Hey all,
I've noticed on my new Milestone 2 the data icon in the status bar changes from a "3G" with up/down arrows beneath it, to a "H" with up/down arrows beneath it quite rapidly when using the internet, etc.
I've looked through the little book thing it came with; no mention of a "H" icon.
Anyone else have it and know what it means?
Thank goodness for XDA
Found out it means:
"H= HSDPA 3.5G (basically faster than 3G)"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6399504&postcount=2
It probably shouldn't be rapidly switching between H and 3G, but oh wells...
Sounds like you found a store
I find that mine also rapidly switches between the two, every single time I do anything that utilises data, it will drop to 3G and seemingly do some negotiation, then switch back to HSPA before anything happens..

Yeah; cancelled the online order as I was sick of the stuffing around.
Bourke St store in Melbourne CBD had a handset.
Gotta say, the phone if much nicer in 'person' compared to all the photos...they don't do it justice!
Too bad I won't get the free months...but I've got the phone, so :-D

Odd "hurricane" looking icon in notification tray

Anyone know what this icon is? When I pull down the drawer, there's zero info surrounding it (like an app notification). Being that it's on the right side, I assume it's a system notification, but not 100% on that.
Before this icon showed up, my phone was running normal. After a standard reboot, it got stuck on the T-Mobile logo. I had to reset the device and since then, this icon has shown up.

Nothing. It's doesn't appear to be app related.
Maybe it's related to your sim provider as soon as it goes above 4G for example VoLte maybe an advanced quality so it shows that icon
Called t-mobile. They have no clue. Hmm

One way to find out goto Settings>Mobile network
And change Network mode to 3G only
And see if that icon still shows up

Yah that did it. It goes away when 3G onky is toggled and come back when LTE is on. More specifically, its tied to the VoLTE. How strange.
Thanks

VZW Wear 24 - Sim Icon in Nofication Tray

I've had a Wear 24 for about three weeks. Yesterday, for the first time, I noticed an icon in the settings dropdown (next to the Bluetooth and wifi indicators) that looked like a sim card with a line struck through it. This icon had never appeared before. Perhaps coincidentally, yesterday was also my best battery life day since I got the watch. While the icon was present, I also saw little arrows next to the Bluetooth symbol indicating upload/download activity.
Today, that icon is gone and so are the arrows (and battery life is worse, though I'm using a different watch face, so who knows?).
Cellular connectivity is switched off and I've never activated the watch on the VZW network. Anyone understand what's up? Thanks.

The first wear 24 I got had that icon permanently. Something was wrong with the sim card/tray. I returned it and got a new one. My guess is you have a slightly loose or defective sim slot or card...
I disabled sim and run in airplane mode all the time. Never activated. Always see that icon. Assumed because I disabled all the Verizon network stuff. Seeing roughly 22h battery life
I see it, too. I disabled the SIM in SIM Info, and the icon appeared and has stayed. Get pretty good battery life as a result.

When I go to the SIM Info app, I see a permission request that doesn't do anything when I touch it. What did you disable and where so that the icon appears and battery life improves?
