New to Verizon, questions about forcing into CDMA - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in Maine, and I just switched my two lines over to Verizon from US Cellular expecting better coverage. I typically used CDMA on USCC because the data speeds were faster and more reliable, and the better reception equaled better battery life. So now that we are on Verizon, they do not offer a CDMA option. I can use the hidden dialer code to switch it temporarily with my MXP, but the other line with a Note 4 cannot. So the Note 4 just drops calls like mad - why doesn't the dialer code work for that phone?
Secondly, is there a way to make these settings stick, so I don't have to keep switching back from LTE? I tried browsing on LTE this morning at work, just to see how it compared after using CDMA all day yesterday, and pictures would not load. At least not for several minutes (4-5 minutse), whereas on 3G they load in like 30 seconds. So I'm sold on CDMA, but sick of switching. Any advice would be great. Otherwise, we'll switch back to the better carrier.

Just go to cellular network settings and switch to 3g.

Well, maybe I'm dense, but which of these three options will give me just CDMA?

I see Verizon took out the option assuming you are stock.

You can probably do it in the phone info hidden menu but be careful.
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------

Yeah I'm on stock lollipop, rooted and debloated with xposed and twrp. But even without the modifications, CDMA is not an option.
I've been using the hidden dialer code, but the settings don't stick through reboot. So every night I'd need to remember to redo it after my reboot.

What surprised me is - how did they remove it? I had the CDMA as an option when I went into the Verizon store to switch. They put in their sim - and the option was gone. Must be due to information on the SIM?

I have Verizon and this is not an issue on the three Pure's my family has. We ordered sims from Motorola though.

You have the 3G option? I'm going to head to a corporate store tomorrow and tell them we need 3G because their 4G network is a joke. Hopefully they can figure something out. Maybe they have a setting wrong which is limiting our data speeds to 1mbps for lte and .7mbps for 3G. Something has to be wrong, or no one would use Verizon.

[Q] Nexus 4 on AT&T

So I bought a Nexus 4 from the T-Mobile store( I know, dont say anything) and I am messing about with the apn settings trying to get a hold of AT&T's HSPA+ network. Right now all I have is HSPA and I know I should be getting faster speeds. If anyone can help me out that would be great!
Thanks
What settings are you using?

Go to the Straight Talk website. I found a page there the other day with all the settings for ATT and Tmo both.

I cant post links yet but I may have found them.
Edit
Tried them and I still cannot get HSPA+ speeds.
Im using the PTA apn and seeing pretty good speeds, although all I get is the H instead of the H+. How do we get the H+?
I'm getting H+ out the box. But mines is from the play store.

Can someone post the PTA APN?
Mine is also from the play store but only shows H (pretty sure there is no H+), can you post a screen shot of your statusbar showing H+? In my screenshot i am getting HSPAP which is hspa+ but there is no H+ icon on stock vanilla android.
This is the PTA apn

I was going to start a thread but it seems I've found the answer to my question here: The T-Mobile Nexus 4 data DOES work on AT&T networks w. Now my question to all of you people using a T-MOBILE Nexus 4 on AT&T: what kind of actual download speeds are you getting? I know its dependent on area, coverage etc, but I'm still curious as to peoples experiences.

As an At&t customer in central jersey, I get glimpses of hspa+:15 service that never really sticks. At home i get 6d:1.5up and at work I get 3d:1.1up. Don't really know if that is considered hspa+ speeds for the area.. but the phone doesnt really show it. My imei isnt correct on att's end and is still saying I have a note and I don't know if that affects it.
called support and they couldn't identify my imei and wanted to put me on a dumb phone plan, no thanks (unlimited lte plan I am on I will not lose).
does anyone know if the imei matters when connecting to the hspap towers? when will att update their systems to know our phones are smart phones?
I am using the pta apn as that seems to work decently. Is hspa+ service bad in central jersey? I had lte on my note in my areas.
I've been an AT&T customer since 2002, I had a nokia phone before getting the iPhone, then the iPhone 3G, 3Gs, 4, 4s, and finally jumped to Android with the N4. I'm currently on the iPhone Data Pro 4GB plan and just got my N4 yesterday.
I promptly popped the sim card into the phone and I'm able to make voice calls and sometimes use the data. thing is, the browsing on the cell netowork feels slow, and i often get a "No connection" dialogue.
I looked at my phone's status and it says that I have HSPA:10 for my network type.
I tried running speedtest.net, but it keeps timing out.
Any suggestions on how i should proceed from here?
Change your APN, you need the hspa+ one. I think you can only use the PTA if you have a Sim provisioned for LTE (which I have from my S3) and for everyone else they put you on the WAP.Cingular. APN.

I'm using the $30 5GB 4G T-Mobile plan with my Nexus 4. So, my comments are directed at T-Mobile users, and the way the Nexus generally reports it's network status. I've been running speedtests all morning/afternoon around Arlington, VA and Washington, DC. At first, I couldn't figure out why the phone kept saying HSPA when I knew HSPA+ was available. The answer is that the phone automatically bumps up to HSPA+ when you begin to upload/download data, and bumps down to HSPA to save battery. So, when you're idle you'll just see HSPA.
I downloaded Network Signal Info, and watched the net type field as I ran speed tests. Each time, after the test initiated, the speed bumped up to HSPA+21mbit. Once the speed test ends, it goes back to regular HSPA. It appears the application doesn't differentiate between 21 mbit and 42 mbit speeds, as I know I was getting 42 meg speeds in Washington, D.C. In Arlington, I was seeing 3-4 Mbit speeds, but as soon as I got into DC I got speeds of 8-15 Mbit down. T-Mobile also advertises that it has expanded the HSPA+42 service to D.C.
When actively using mobile date, the About > Status shows "HSPA+:15". When you data connection is idle or you're on wifi, you'll see "HSPA:10." You may also notice it changing when the phone appears to be idle, but I assume that's due to background data usage. I hope this is helpful.

As a former att employee in their tech department the imei number doesn't matter.. it just let then know what plans they can add to the device.. I had a flip phone when my skyrocket died.. it didn't matter as long as your account is provisioned for data. Whether LTE or media net

You might have to change your plan and get the 4g sim... You will still be able to keep your unlimited data when switching plans. Your are grandfathered in so they can't take it away.. Took me a while to find a speedtest that would work in the browser but the one on dslreports.com reported that I was getting ~3mbps down. Still seems quite a bit lower than the 7mbps I was getting on my Atrix 4G.

Why is my LTE device displaying as HSPA+?

Hey guys. I Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-I317M) and for some reason it fluctuates between HSPA+ and 3G signals rather than LTE. The device is originally locked to Rogers but I unlocked it and am now using it with MTS. I am running on jelly bean 4. 1.2 and CleanRom 4.0.5. Anybody have any ideas as to why I'm not getting LTE?

Are you still getting fast data speeds? All LTE is 3.9 g and hspa is like 3.6 g lol..

Yes I'm getting fast speeds but I can't help but wonder why this is happening. I mentioned that I'm with MTS so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. I live in Canada so it's probably not familiar to you. They just started carrying S3's which are running on their LTE network and they show 4G at the top of them when activated rather than HSPA+.

It is either the towers or your phone isn't compatible with the bands of LTE (there are multiple bands like there is with UTMS).

I'm pretty sure it isn't the towers cause my friends iPhone 5 is running off LTE and he live about 5 minutes away from my house. I've also been at distances one minute away from his house and did not pick up LTE then either. I don't know much about bands or frequencies but my carrier just launched the Galaxy S3's and they run off LTE and I'm assuming the Note 2 has the same hardware. S3: 700 (Band 17), 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz , Note 2: 700(band 17) 850 AWS 1,900(band 2). I'm clueless as to what those numbers mean but i'm guessing the important thing is Band 17, right?
Try going near his house then. Or have you checked the network settings? You may have to flash something.

I have to no avail. I had a friend try to help me out over the phone with network settings and his phone appears to have a setting that mine does not. When he goes into settings > wireless and network more settings > mobile network there is an option for him to toggle between LTE, HSPA+ etc. My phone doesn't have that for some reason. All that's listed is Mobile data, data roaming, Access point names, and network operators. Nothing to toggle between networks, which is probably what I need to enable LTE. I have no idea why that setting would be absent from my device. My friend was using an S3 on the same operating system as me btw.
From what i can tell it's the frequencies . The frequencies your device have seem to be different than the frequencies the s3 have on your carrier. If it's not that then you can check your apn settings.

What model is your phone, and what model is his phone. You said you brought your phone from a competing carrier who is likely using alternate frequencies that your phone might not be picking up either due to hardware or software limitations. Without knowing the hardware, and where it came from in the first place, we can't figure out what frequencies your phone is looking for and can't answer your question effectively.
download an app that will show you what is the type of connection you are actually on.
I think that maybe its the matter of incorrect icon.

Everybody is a bit of a stretch. All VZW 4G phones are SIM unlocked due to their block C agreement with the FCC. It's been this way for about a year. Maybe a little longer.
OP: If you enter the proper APN information and your account is provisioned properly you should be able to get HSPA+ and messaging working. You'll also get VERY limited LTE coverage as AT&T does utilize a small amount of Band 4 depending where you live.

That doesn't sound right. I've been on AT&T with my bootloader unlocked Droid Maxx for ages and have never gotten LTE (despite getting it in the same locations with a Dev Edition Moto X). APN settings are correct, but the phone lacks the proper radios to pick up AT&T LTE. Sure you aren't getting HPSA+? Everything works flawlessly here out of the box.

It says 4GLTE and the speeds are there AT&T uses a small bit of band 4 for LTE its says that on here somewhere and I guess I'm picking that up.I searched deeper and I found the different forums that LTE is a pain on 4.4.x
From what I know and what I've seen AT&T works with all phones even if they are locked down to their carriers
If you use topsnakes moto x 4.4.4 port for the droid line LTE works just fine

officially it doesnt. but unofficially..
it was never approved by the fcc to have an lte radio, but does, to band 4. since it officially doesnt have an lte radio, it officially doesnt have lte. but it does. its lte capabilities have been disabled by software in its newer radios, but have been readded in modified radios that could be found here on xda. that, with the right apn, and some other numbers to change, it works with tmibile lte, as tmibile uses band 4

LG V20 with Verizon is missing...

The FM radio and the ability to hide apps in the settings it looks like? They seem to be available with AT&T.
OK.
Verizon has always disabled the fm radio as always

I am not even sure why people even go to Verizon ridiculous prices and absolute control freaks when it comes to phones on their network.

Because some people prioritize coverage above all else. Houston medical center pays Verizon a premium for all the extra coverage there. It's hard to find a place NOT to be able to make a phone call.
I do wonder what happens when verizon dumps CDMA though. T-Mobile's coverage there is pretty dang good for data. At&t is pretty good for calls. Sprint? LOL & ½.

Not anymore, Next FM Radio is enabled on the S7 and S7 Edge, and was on the Note 7 as well.

Well, some people actually want dependable coverage I wish they were more open too, but in my rural area (Mendocino County, Northwestern California), Verizon, AT&T and U.S. Cellular rule the roost, though T-Mobile has made a lot of improvements here. Sprint doesn't have coverage here, they roam on U.S. Cellular for service.

Verizon is going to have a hard time keeping up with T-mo's unlimited data plans now. Verizon has great coverage, but their data plans and pricing is pretty crazy. T-mo is going to get a lot of users coming from Verizon soon.
sprint disabled the lg apps too.
no gallery app, no calendar. some other ones i dont use
but for sure these too. a member from another site sent me the apk for the gallery but still looking for the calendar one. hate google calendar
