officially it doesnt. but unofficially..
it was never approved by the fcc to have an lte radio, but does, to band 4. since it officially doesnt have an lte radio, it officially doesnt have lte. but it does. its lte capabilities have been disabled by software in its newer radios, but have been readded in modified radios that could be found here on xda. that, with the right apn, and some other numbers to change, it works with tmibile lte, as tmibile uses band 4

you dont need root on your device for this, but it does require an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery(bootloader can be relocked after recovery is flashed).

Hey guys. I Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-I317M) and for some reason it fluctuates between HSPA+ and 3G signals rather than LTE. The device is originally locked to Rogers but I unlocked it and am now using it with MTS. I am running on jelly bean 4. 1.2 and CleanRom 4.0.5. Anybody have any ideas as to why I'm not getting LTE?

Are you still getting fast data speeds? All LTE is 3.9 g and hspa is like 3.6 g lol..

Yes I'm getting fast speeds but I can't help but wonder why this is happening. I mentioned that I'm with MTS so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. I live in Canada so it's probably not familiar to you. They just started carrying S3's which are running on their LTE network and they show 4G at the top of them when activated rather than HSPA+.

Nope not familiar with Mts. That's correct.. it all depends on the towers u are near .. if they haven't upgraded there towers sorry your sol lol

It is either the towers or your phone isn't compatible with the bands of LTE (there are multiple bands like there is with UTMS).

I'm pretty sure it isn't the towers cause my friends iPhone 5 is running off LTE and he live about 5 minutes away from my house. I've also been at distances one minute away from his house and did not pick up LTE then either. I don't know much about bands or frequencies but my carrier just launched the Galaxy S3's and they run off LTE and I'm assuming the Note 2 has the same hardware. S3: 700 (Band 17), 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz , Note 2: 700(band 17) 850 AWS 1,900(band 2). I'm clueless as to what those numbers mean but i'm guessing the important thing is Band 17, right?
Try going near his house then. Or have you checked the network settings? You may have to flash something.

I have to no avail. I had a friend try to help me out over the phone with network settings and his phone appears to have a setting that mine does not. When he goes into settings > wireless and network more settings > mobile network there is an option for him to toggle between LTE, HSPA+ etc. My phone doesn't have that for some reason. All that's listed is Mobile data, data roaming, Access point names, and network operators. Nothing to toggle between networks, which is probably what I need to enable LTE. I have no idea why that setting would be absent from my device. My friend was using an S3 on the same operating system as me btw.
From what i can tell it's the frequencies . The frequencies your device have seem to be different than the frequencies the s3 have on your carrier. If it's not that then you can check your apn settings.

What model is your phone, and what model is his phone. You said you brought your phone from a competing carrier who is likely using alternate frequencies that your phone might not be picking up either due to hardware or software limitations. Without knowing the hardware, and where it came from in the first place, we can't figure out what frequencies your phone is looking for and can't answer your question effectively.
download an app that will show you what is the type of connection you are actually on.
I think that maybe its the matter of incorrect icon.

Yeah, it's kind of inexplicable why the Nexus 6 covers so many more bands than the Moto X. It's basically the same hardware, would have been easy to do on Moto X.

Correction! It looks the same, but the HW is entirely different on the inside.
This is closer HW wise to a Droid Turbo than a MotoX, the only relation between the MotoX and the N6 is aesthetics.

When is T-Mobile starting to deploy LTE on B12?
Is band 12 used everywhere by TMob or only certain regions? I don't have any TMob reception using a G3, but that has no band 12. Can I expect the N6 to be better?

Check out the map above on post 9. Band 12 acquisitions have been rolling out all over but in certain large markets they are limited to Verizon... See the red circles on the map. Those were retained by Verizon but nearby areas are T-Mobile.

I see places on that map with my current Nexus 5 that I only have E on my phone but it is covered in the red band 12 area. With this band 12 will that mean I will have 4g/lte in the same places with the nexus 6?

Example: at my work I have E (we cant bring our phone into work so it doesn't matter to me). On the map it shows that where I work is in red (I assume that is the band 12), then I would now have 4g/LTE with the new band on the Nexus 6.
I felt like my last post didn't make sense and I hope this one does.

Correct although it might not be live yet on actual towers. Some markets are up right now... In total the map shows acquisitions not coverage as it stands today.

So is this "Band 12 better wall penetration" only for T-Mobile users or will it benefit all carriers? Just a little confused by frequencies and stuff of that sort.

I have a friend in NYC and he's on Verizon, and his speed tests were double the speeds of the OP here.. So I think Verizon may still be king.
This was a few months ago and he has an S4, I'm looking for the thread he posted his speed test in but I can't find it of course.
Not surprised Sprint is terrible either, I switched over to Sprint because they gave me unlimited everything for $20 cheaper than T-Mobile, but I'm thinking after this winter I'll be switching over to T-Mobile.. Speeds are not that great at all. But..I knew that coming into it.

What part of Jax did you test in? My Sprint Nexus speeds aren't close to that.
NYC Verizon here. I haven't been seeing XLTE speeds with my Nexus 6. Roughly 15-20Mbps Pretty standard band 13 speeds for NYC like my old Gnex had.
Makes me worried i'll never get the other bands or VoLTE or simultaneous voice and data with this phone.
Is there any way I can see which bands are being used by my phone? I only mentioned 13 since i believe that was the only LTE band the Gnex had.
Edit:
Found an app to check the band. I'm on band 4 right now. The app is LTE Discovery for those that are curious.
Edit2:
Just looked into it and band 4 is the 1700-2100Mhz band assigned to AWS. weird that i'm not seeing the crazy high speeds.

i havent seen any in real life here either
Verizon. Outside of Charlotte, NC. Not bad with half bars...
Here is my blazing fast Att LTE /s
This is why I'm thinking about switching carriers.
Verizon in Atlanta, GA, Burlington, VT, and Augusta, ME.
I live in Maine, and I just switched my two lines over to Verizon from US Cellular expecting better coverage. I typically used CDMA on USCC because the data speeds were faster and more reliable, and the better reception equaled better battery life. So now that we are on Verizon, they do not offer a CDMA option. I can use the hidden dialer code to switch it temporarily with my MXP, but the other line with a Note 4 cannot. So the Note 4 just drops calls like mad - why doesn't the dialer code work for that phone?
Secondly, is there a way to make these settings stick, so I don't have to keep switching back from LTE? I tried browsing on LTE this morning at work, just to see how it compared after using CDMA all day yesterday, and pictures would not load. At least not for several minutes (4-5 minutse), whereas on 3G they load in like 30 seconds. So I'm sold on CDMA, but sick of switching. Any advice would be great. Otherwise, we'll switch back to the better carrier.
Just go to cellular network settings and switch to 3g.
Well, maybe I'm dense, but which of these three options will give me just CDMA?
I see Verizon took out the option assuming you are stock.
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
You can probably do it in the phone info hidden menu but be careful.
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------
Yeah I'm on stock lollipop, rooted and debloated with xposed and twrp. But even without the modifications, CDMA is not an option.
I've been using the hidden dialer code, but the settings don't stick through reboot. So every night I'd need to remember to redo it after my reboot.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
What surprised me is - how did they remove it? I had the CDMA as an option when I went into the Verizon store to switch. They put in their sim - and the option was gone. Must be due to information on the SIM?
I have Verizon and this is not an issue on the three Pure's my family has. We ordered sims from Motorola though.

You have the 3G option? I'm going to head to a corporate store tomorrow and tell them we need 3G because their 4G network is a joke. Hopefully they can figure something out. Maybe they have a setting wrong which is limiting our data speeds to 1mbps for lte and .7mbps for 3G. Something has to be wrong, or no one would use Verizon.

I put it into download mode.... install the firmware... and i crash it again in an hour.... its seriously more indestructible than i could have ever dreamed of.
