Hello friends,
I love playing heavy games like Asphalt 8 Airborne and Real Racing 3. I want to know that which ROM is best for having a smoother gaming performance on Canvas A120 4GB version? I have used stock JB, FOTA KK and CleanKat, all of them have not been able to give smoother framerates. I have 350MB free internal storage and 450 MB free RAM before i start playing those games.
The best rom to play is use cyanogenmod ...battery sucks though....benchmark performance increase shows a whopping 25 ****ing percent increase in performance!!! So if u want performance go for it
Isn't cyanogenmod too much for this device. I mean is the processor in this device strong enough to handle this rom. Ram is also 1gig, would that be an issue too?
Also the CPU performance tweaks do not help. So is it all about GPU when it comes to gaming?
I prefer wiko rainbow stock rom v13!! its best. I play GTA San Andreas Android on max settings! only shadows off!
Just flash cyo....its a very fast rom...try then comment...
ok, I read reviews about this rom..seems their are lot of issues yet to be resolved by the developer.
Is this rom too a battery drainer? In what ways its better than my current CleanKat.
Thanks a lot bro. you were right. I installed this rom today and omg i can play RR3 on higher settings without any other tweak..and ya thats for real. In addition this rom gave me >2gigs of internal storage which is awesome..now no need for move2sd kinda apps. I had initial hiccups for rooting and installing philz recovery but finally it was possible. I have not yet tried CM12.1 but i think i will stick to this one.

Hi
Im currently running Paranoid Android with Nova Launcher plus homescreen widgets and a fairly simple live wallpaper.
Gaming is not that great, emulators run fine but games like NOVA 3 and Asphalt 7 are choppy.
Ive checked CPU-Z and my CPU usage keeps jumping from around 10% to 100% so I guess I have a problem.
I know I could just uninstall a load of stuff and get rid of a lot of my customisations, which Im sure would help, but while Im on this I may as well get the best ROM I can for gaming.
Ive read stuff about CPU and GPU throttling and undervoltage setting etc, and to be honest I dont really want to go messing around too much.
Is there are ROM that has been optimised for gaming? Or should I revert back to stock? Or stick with PA and clean out all the crap?
Please help, I just got myself a MOGA PRO and its excellent, but choppy frame rates in most games are a real pain!
Thanks
Nat.

I would think that the kernel would have more importance in gaming performance than the rom itself, try FauxKernal/Matrix kernel which has slightly overclocked gpu

Ever tried Trinity kernel?
No I haven't.
I would recommend faux or trinity, like above. Battery life sucks on heavy gaming though.

OK cool thanks guys I'm going to try a different kernel then.
What about my cpuz readings though? Is it normal for my cpu to keep jumping around even when idle?
i think CM is very good
Threre is no such thing as a best Rom, try some and see which best suites your needs.

Hello there, community!
This is my first post on xda forums and I will try to make it quick.
I'm looking for a fast ROM that will run smoothly sacrificing more unneeded features and options. I found stock 4.0.3 rom stuttering and lagging from time to time, even in Contacts section.
With no work in the background, my LG has around 80-100 RAM left, which I'd like to increase. I also plan on running some more advanced 3d games, so a little overclock would also be nice - I know this CPU is already oc'd from 800 to 1000 mhz but maybe it's worth trying to push it a bit more and take the weight off by disabling CPU rendering in favor of the GPU (I mean this great performance boost everyone is talking about when you force GPU rendering). If it works the way I think and with the GPU taking care of all the rendering, maybe processor won't heat so much and could be overclocked above 1 Ghz. What do you guys think?
In short, I'm looking for a fast ROM with a gaming and overclocking potential. Thanks in advance for the replies!
I use Slimbean 4.1.2 and it's really smooth and fast!
It's also perfect for my gaming needs but I don't really know what games you're after though!
Give it a try, you will certainly like it!

Well, I'm looking for overall better performance. For example on this stock rom, in the game Galaxy on Fire sound and interface lags etc. I found it odd that some simple games like Jetpack Joyride often stutter during gameplay, but Rayman Jungle Run with much better sound and graphics runs smoothly.
I'll check the rom you mentioned. Any more sugestions?
You should give a try to PAC ROM 4.3.Even it has some bugs,I found it smoother than I thought. After it will become stable,it will be one of the best or even the best ROM as performances.
My phone was lagging on heavy games such as Dead Effect, End of tomorrow and asphalt 8. My phone also lags on 2d games such as virtual city (heavy volume objects). I thought that s4 was a good phone but now I had a bad impression in gaming.
Anyway, I am using Phoenix rom v8.
I have no idea if the "rom" affects the game because of some scripts or is it just my phone. I really have no idea what was causing.
Is it because of ext2sd? Greenify?
I optimize the ram before I play and see if 50% of ram and below is available.
I am a noob? Yes.

Sounds like it may be the DVFS introduced by Samsung that a lot of people have problems with. There is a way of disabling this, check the link below.
DVFS disabler thread

Disabler app (install Xposed first)

Thank you so much!! To be honest, I didn't know it was the cause of bottleneck. I tested some games including the ones I mention and yeah, it was awfully working now as it is..
(And thanks mOd for mOving my thread. ?)

Hi guys,
first of all let me apologize for this stupid question. Personally I hate these questions too, but I have my device in service for 3 weeks, therefore I'm not able to continue with my research...
It's already a long time since I've bought my G2 (D802). Of course, the first thing what I've done > go to custom ROM ... (It's my habit since Xperia Arc S) I think that I was dissappointed of my new LG G2 even then. Games wasn't fluent and lagless as I supposed they should be. It was another good reason to go to the custom ROM. But unfortunatelly and surprisingly it was even worse. So I find another thing why is that so bad. In that time custom ROMS wasnť based on Kitkat sources (kernel), so I hoped that everything will be fine after developers merge source code. But the improvement has never become (in that form I hoped for) In that time I became reconciled that I will never play games on my G2 as smooth as on my iPad.
That's the reason why I'm looking for the best ROM for games. (I'm a heavy gamer)
So my question: Do you know any good rom for Gaming? Could you recommend me something?
I tried Mahdi. PA, Beanstalk, Slim ROM, CloudyStock, Pro, Flex, G3... But none of these ROMs is fine...
(I can't understand how can be Cloudy ROMs so popular (Nothing against Cloudyfa ) because they have too many lags in games !!! I think it's more laggier than stock...

What's the definition of "lagless" for you, and what games are you playing?
First of all, you have to realise and acknowledge that this is a smartphone. No matter what, it's still a phone and it's not made for heavy gaming. Second, you have to realise that despite the fact that many developers (ie Gameloft) has a lot of experience with games, they're too lazy too optimize them even for the most powerful chips out there. The games utilise 100% CPU speed even if they don't need it at all, and then the CPU throttles down because it's becoming too hot. Logic/10.
Thirdly, you have to realise that the ROM is not what makes the game fluid or lag-free. It's the kernel.
Since the G2 (like ALL other phones) is cooled passively (it has no fan whatsoever), it's important that it runs as cool as possible to prevent overheating and throttling.
My advice to you would be the following:
Install your favourite ROM and a kernel you can tweak heavily (gpu/cpu). A good bet would be dorimanx.
Go to kernel settings, and chance max frequency to 1.27 Ghz or around that. Change governor to performance.
Change GPU to 450 Mhz.
Try playing a game =)
I used to play Asphalt 8 back when I first got the phone and I got about 30 FPS? Anyway it was smooth as butter, and I see no real reason why you want to put a custom rom on your phone. The good 'ol days where nothing was better than custom roms are pretty much over. Stock is just fine, root it, use a custom kernel if neccessary and use xposed. Will solve it.

Of course that kernel is the most important thing in performance (because of sequencer laws, etc...), but nowadays we have no (except render) custom kernels for AOSP/ CM ROMs, so my question was focused on a ROM → I connected it to the whole... (And furthermore each ROM has own kernel. + ROM can cause lags as well)

Unfortunately these times are gone, at least I think it. There were lots of updates, which increase the performance consumption (Simply they add tons of new features and stuff, but they ,,forget" to optimize that... ) I played this game, Dead trigger 2, Dungeon Hunter 4 and even simple games like traffic racer with incredibly high count of lags (And it wasn't lags in miliseconds → not always). I thought it was because of my current ROM (Mahdi) so I tried PA and then stock based ROMs (CloudyFlex, Stock) but nearly no changes) Therefore I think it will be the same on stock ROMs too, if it's on Cloudy ROM with heavily optimized kernel, system... (Even Dorimanx kernel doesn't change anything).

Thanks for this tip, I tried something similar but with UC to 1,9 GHz and I didn't set governor to performance (My device was incredibly hot in a while with performance governor), I didn't notice any bigger changes - I expected that lower frequency will cause even more lags and I was obviously wrong. For sure I will try your advice....

I don't like the LG's design of system, and I don't like xposed → it causes higher battery consumption and it ,,eats" RAM and performance (At least on my previous device )
i have 10 xposed modules installed and i didn't notice any additional battery decrease...
as for ram, as stated many times - free ram = wasted ram...
as for the thread - "what's the best this&that" threads aren't allowed on xda
i played rr3 and csr racing on this device and didn't notice anything wrong with the framerate (stock kk v20f, rooted with dorimanx kernel on default)
Oddly enough, I haven't noticed a major change in gaming performance coming from the S4 Pro. Asphalt 8 specifically is buggy, sluggish, etc on my LG OG & G2, but I don't care for android gaming since the apps aren't optimized (too many HW configs, whereas iOS is just SGX & Ax chips).

First of all, I like to say that we lacked similar threads, so OP started an useful topic. I would have stayed with simple dual-core smartphone, but I bought G2 in November for a reason, to try new games and so on, I woudn't have bought it if I needed a phone only for texting and browsing, like many argue like this. What I observed is that, 2,3 Ghz for a phone with passive cooling is a nonsense because after few minutes of gaming it will keep running like 1,5 Ghz and lower, hell what's the use of those 4 cores if a device would burn out. I never owned an apple product, but on my colleague's 5S, they run very smooth and fast with same graphics on a dual-core, so it all goes to optimazing and not using these ridiculous frequencies. I was expecting a lot from a phone like that, sorry for a long post.
Hi, how's everyone?
When i bought my nexus 4 before like 7 months it was pretty good, and can handle heavy games like modern combat 4 and Asphalt 8 in high graphics, Now i cant even enjoy playing those games because of frames lags and stuff.
Could you please tell me what i should do? I tried to flash factory image still didn't solve thus problem.

A different ROM won't make any difference, unless it has its own kernel with some performance tweaks. Set CPU to On Demand, and GPU to Performance. Might make a difference. You could try a kernel with overclock, like AK, but you should make increases incrementally and keep an eye (or hand) on possible overheating.
If you were able to run things before, but now things are lagging with the same settings, It'll be because you've got extra crap running the background hogging resources.
I think Hells Core b57 can help u, dude. I tested this kernel w/ some heavy games and it did very well :3. But, play so many heavy games w/ that kernel can make ur battery drain very fast w/ b57 version include ur phone will be heat up @@

PARANOID ANDROID or CYANOGENMOD.
You can't go wrong with either of these ROMS
Plus you can download Franco's kernel for PA.
Under the CPU governer choose performance. This will cause all your cores to run at 1.5ghz regardless of the load on your system. Hence maximizing performance
There's a temperature throttling option in Franco kernel.
Google sets its GPU throttling at 37 Celcius. So when your phone heats up, the performance decreases.
You can actually override this default temperature so you'll get a better performance in the LONGER RUN.
Just don't crank it up too high. We don't want your phone to be extra hot.
But 37 degrees celcius is way too low when compared to other phone GPU throttling temperature.
Thanks everyone!
That really helped me.
