Hi guys,
So after 2 years of owning my nexus 4 the charging port had become extremely loose.
I ordered a replacement which I believe to be a genuine part.
While removing the battery to take the charging port out I made a "rookie error" and accidentally tore the ribbon connector on the battery.
So I ordered a genuine LG replacement battery through amazon. I put everything back together after installing the new battery and port.
I left the phone to charge for a few hours and went to turn it on and nothing happened.
I have noticed a few things:
When i use the old usb port with the new battery, the instant the charger is plugged in a red light flashes once.
When i use the new usb port with the new battery, the instant the charger is plugged in a green light flashes once.
If i hold down the power and volume down button then plug the charger in it takes me to the "android robot" menu but before i can select any options it automatically selects start and goes to the "Google" screen.
Once at the "Google" screen the google logo shows for a maximum of 3seconds and the phone shuts down the led light blinks once.
I realise I could just replace the phone but i have a lot of important data, files and photos that i need to recover urgently.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Please be aware that all 'genuine' usb charging ports in ebay, aliexpress have notification light soldered in wrong way so green light is red and red is green (not sure if that applies in opposite but definitely the colors are wrong).
There's workaround for this issue: using custom rom with notification light set-up (Chroma, Pure Nexus, etc).
Then you can go to this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/major-discovery-regarding-battery-red-t2128392
Usually, you could change the port without messing up with the battery at all

hey guys, my mda will not charge or turn on. when plugged into a/c the indication light does not come on. i have switched batteries with my other mda and still unable to turn it on. i have done searches but have not found any relevant info. does anyone have some insight?
No charge
I have exactly the same problem...
My phone was charging and my washing maching caused a power surge and the only thing that seems to have been affected is my HTC Wizard! I've ordered a new battery so I'm waiting for this in the hope that this is the problem... If not - HELLO INSURANCE!
I'm running into this also. When I plug in the charger, the LED turns green, then red and thats it.
anyone? may have to do some brain surgery on the mda
You haven't told us anything. What were you doing before it quit just turning on? Have you tried to do a hard reset on it, soft reset, or put it into bootloader? Were you trying to flash a rom when it quit working? Was it on an original rom or custom one (and which rom was it?). Did you upgrade it in any way (load software)? Did you do a soft reset and it quit working, or did it just die while you were doing stuff? Or did it just not turn on the next time you tried to use it?
Like I said, you haven't told us anything other than it won't turn on with your battery or another battery. Information is a good thing
For me...I didnt do anything. It was on and sitting on my desk. The battery was a bit low. I went outside to check the mail, came back and it was dead. I tried turning it on, the boot screen came on and then off...never to turn on again at all.
No custom roms or software or anything. I couldnt find my wall charger so I took my old razr charger plugged it in, nothing, LEDS wouldnt even come on.
So I took it to a Cingular store and they had an OEM charger there. They plugged it in, the Orange LED came on for a second, then turned red and would just sit there. Not even turning on.
But what ROM were you on? THere were numerous issues with the early Cingular (and other) ROMs where once the battery got below a certain percentage it would not charge anymore. There are tricks here and in HowardForums for how to jumpstart your battery (using a 9V battery or a wall charger with bare wires). Can't say if thats what this issue is, but it might help.
So you said you took yours to the Cingular store. Did they replace it? You didn't finish your story.
i know, im sorta interested in what happened
OK here's the solution.
First of all, be aware that the MDA can NOT charge unless the OS is fully loaded. If for whatever reason your battery gets fully depleted, you have to do the following (it involves ruining a 5 $ cable and doing some surgery):
- first, go out and buy a new USB-to-mini-USB cable, unless you have 2 already (or one and the original charger)
- take out the battery
- take the USB-to-mini-USB cable, cut off the mini-USB plug and expose the four wires
- strip the red (+) and black (-) wire and twist the copper ends of each wire
- now CAREFULLY attach the right wire to the right connector on the battery (so + on + and - on -) and tape it there so it stays firmly on
- put the cable in your (running) PC or put the charger in the wall socket
- let the battery recharge for an hour or so, then put it back in the Wizard and reboot
- now when it is fully rebooted, you need the second cable to charge your Wizard completely, the way you're used to.
Worked for me! I've kept the ruined cable, just in case it happens again.
Good luck!
fixed
Luckily enough an old friend of mine had an 8125 that finally broke to crap, so he gave me his battery. I popped it in, voila! Not only did it load, but it comtinues to charge. I was worried the phone was bricked.
But this is definately a battery issue. Thanks for all the help and info guys. It's good to know this thing wont charger unless the OS is fully loaded, didnt know that.
May I just check, is this charging issue (when the OS is loaded) only an issue on the 8125's? I have an o2 Mini S and just as a check powered it down by holding the power button but while in this state if I connected it to a charger the orange LED still came on to indicate it was charging but in the off state.
hey guys sorry i did not respond earlier i have been away for sometime. well my phone was working all night but when i woke up it would not turn on. i plugged in the charger into the wall and none of the lights came out. took the battery from my broken screen mda and still did not turn on. the phone had the xelencin 2.26 rom update. programs i had installed were:
spb shell
spb diary
spb pocket plus
battery status - overclocked @ 195 i believe
most programs were installed on a 2gb minisd card.
again the phone was working fine the night before and upon waking up it owuld not turn on or even charge. i am currently at work but i will try out the previous suggestions as soon as i am home and will post back.

i see 6 connectors on the battery and left is red and right is black but there r 6 connectiors so which 1 i should plug in the neg and pos sign is like right in between..so can u upload a pic so i can see?
The pins that you need to connect it to are the end ones, the red wire goes to the one thats at the end with the plus symbol, and the black at the opposite end with the minus symbol. I just tried it and it works great.
doesnt work, maybe i bricked my phone

I just recovered two regular batteries and and extended battery using this process. Too late though. I have another battery coming in from WM Experts. Any way the process is flawless and the charge time would depend on how long the battery has been low. Another possibility is may be the battery has run its life.
Fixed it!
as stated elsewhere the charger has to be 5v ish and 1A i'd tried other ch1argers nd everything nd then i found a charger 4 my old phone which was an spv c550 which was 1A plugged that in and after a couple of seconds the good 'ol orange charging indicator came on.. after which it booted up perfectly! so happy it's working now hope this helps some1!

Hi all,
Right, the battery on my XDA Mini S was getting low, so I plugged it into the wall charger (not an official one, its a motorola mini usb charger 5v, 850mA)
It was left charging for a couple of days. I think? Someone could have turned off the switch? But the switch was on this morning
Anyway.....It doesn't boot, no signs of life at all, if i plug it into the wall charger then there's no lights.
Doesn't even go to boot loader.
No response when plugging it into USB.
I've tried hard reset, no nothing.
It's weird because its been working perfectly.
I've been googling and reading the forums here.
I've had a go at "jumping" or reviving the battery. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
I bought a 9v battery, took apart a mini usb cable and removed the red and black wires. I've been holding the wires from the 9v battery connecters to the tips of the + and - plates.
Still nothing.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Surely it can't just become a paper weight suddenly?
This hasn't happened from flashing either.
I've also tried another charger, which didn't work, so the charger isn't the problem.
Wohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Fixed it.
I tried "reviving" the battery again.
Except this time I tried connecting the + and - to different plates.
My sticker on the back of my battery lies, and tells me the wrong + and -
So I googled what an XDA Mini S battery should REALLY look like....voila!
better buy a 1AMP Wall charger and don't let the battery completely discharge.
Yeah, I heard this problem with a friend of mine as well. Battery ran out completely and it wouldnt charge at all (seems that it only charges if the phone is on, so, yeah, figures).
My suggestion on that case would be to try something else to charge the battery alone, dont know a specific charge but sometimes little things like putting it in the freezer for some time works to give it a tiny little life back, enough to turn on the phone, you never know.
hey i have same problem with that
im using 9 v batteries and connect to mda batteries
but still nothing
what must i do. . . . . .
would someone help me
i try all but still nothing
2 days a go my mda can on but only bootloader and then off

Hi !
I searched already around the forum, but I didn't find anything for my problem:
Yesterday my device turned off because of low battery (while listening music), then I tried to charge it with the original charger over night. Today in the morning the device was not charged but the amber/organge LED was blinking.
When I put on the charger the red led turns on, after a few seconds the amber led starts blinking then after a few minutes the led turns again red an then again blinking amber and so on ...
I can boot up Windows mobile bu after a few secounds the deivce turns off an then again red led an blinking amber ...
I did a softreset and a hardreset but still no charging.
I tried another battery from a neighbour, the device works fine, but still a blinking amber led (not always-on) when connect on the charger.
Can anybody help me ?
Sorry for my bad english ..
Have you tried using your friend's phone charger?
The problem has been discussed. It is known as the RLOD (Red light of Death) and is reported against many different phones and brands. It is likely a fault in:
1
The phones charging circuit
OR
2
A faulty battery
OR
3 A faulty USB port (bent pin or cracked solder joint)
OR
4
A cracked solder joint between the battery connector and m/board
In my experience it is most likely to be a faulty (stuck) charging circuit.
The following link may be useful, and it is worth persevering. I once had a phone that took several days to get started again:

Mike
@gypsygirl: I tried two different chargers which are working fine which another device (xda neo)
@mikechannon:
I think its a problem with the charging circut or the usb port (otherwise the data connection works when connected to the pc).
I tried the battery from my friend with 90 % battery left and put on the charger and ist doesn't start charging, only blinking amber ...
I guess I will buy an external cradle for charging the battery, not the best way, but so i can use the device ...
When there is any solution for a cracked charging circut, i will try it out ...
Thanks for help
Hello,
my problem is strange.
When I turn off my Atom Life it can be charged (USB, External Power Supply).
Red indicator light on.
When turned on (in use) it does not charge. The charging symbol in the status line shows the unit is connected to external power, but the red indicator light is off, and power continuously goes down.
I already tried a hard reset, but that did not help.
Does anybody have an idea?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that everything with charging went fine earlier (until some weeks ago)
charging
same thing with my XDA ATom dude
I have ordered a new battery for mine at ebay (did not arrive yet).
Maybe it helps.
Otherwise ...
Ok, the battery came in and it does not change anything.
Still the same issue.
So I am gonna litter it...
bye bye
New info,
there seems to be a bad contact at the USB connector.
If I connect the USB cable and hold the plug in a specific angle, then the charging light (red led) turns on).
Brought the device to a friend of mine. He's good at electronics and tries to figure out and fix the usb connector.
wait and see

any news for your problem ??
i'm having this problem too
i brought used one and seems the battery is almost dead and can't charge when device is ON
Thanks!
I got a used atom life and bought a new main battery for it. Charging via USB cable connected to my notebook is working fine. Using the (wall socket plugin) power supply with the same cable it behaves the same way you described it. It starts charging only when the device is turned On and back Off. In my opinion the power supply is the reason. Maybe it is to week ar has some sort of security switch build in, which is protecting it against to high power consumption.
In my case it was definitely not the charger. I tried several ones and they behaved all the same (the original one wrked for long time).
It is the device itself.
I had it sent to a friend who was able to open it and a have a look at it.
The USB plug itself was a bit loose. But soldering it again did not fix the problem.
There seems to be a micro break of a wire on the mainboard (which is multi layered). So no real chance to repair.
I replaced my device by a HTC Desire which was available in Germany very very cheaply (you don't want to know the price because it wuld be too frustrating).
So goodbye Atom Life.
Has anyone heard of these problems before? The first one is that the back and menu buttons don't work. They don't even light up when its turned on. Second problems is the battery doesn't charge well, I will put it on charge when its turned off and it won't get to the charging animation and for example when its on and shows its charging I pull out the cable and its still showing as charging. Also the percentage of battery left was all over the place sometimes. I turned the phone off, when I turned it back on about (without the charging cable in) it went to the charging screen, so turned off again and on again, this time it started up fine but when got to the home screen its still showing as charging with no cable attached. When I got the phone the battery was completely flat, so he must have had some trouble charging it too (he supplied me with a black 1a charger rather than the white 2a charger they normally come with)
I got this phone off eBay so I am sending it back, it had a new screen put on it apparently they didn't wire up the back and menu button? as for what's causing the charging problem? I noticed there were interference type lines when I used the touchscreen when it was charging. I was able to charge the battery in this phone in my other working S4. There was a OTA rom update but that didn't fix any of the problems, I'm guessing they are hardware problems and not much I can do about them other than send it back?
