So I stopped into a store on a whim today because of the issues I've been having that no one on here can help with. (No LTE and no streaming audio apps will work). Unfortunately my phone was highly modified, and I was just hoping to get the sim swapped. He wanted to trouble shoot, and wouldn't get his grubby hands off the phone. So long story short, he wouldn't listen to anything I said, he knew very little about phones - shocker. He wanted to factory reset it (Like I haven't wiped it and started fresh over 30 times). After that didn't work, and he noticed I had a custom recovery and was rooted, he said that it's probably because I'm rooted that LTE won't work. He said Verizon has a program that if it detects root, it probably disables LTE, because people with rooted phones have ways to get free unlimited data. I've never heard of this data hack, but would be cool lol. But furthermore, I haven't heard a single Verizon user say they can't use 4G because they are rooted. So does Verizon not allow LTE for rooted phones? lol (I already know the answer)
I taught him as much as I could. But it was like talking to wall sometimes. Oh well.

That's a funny, and sort of sad, story. But I'm wondering if you went in there with a Moto X Pure? Verizon doesn't sell that phone (do they?), but he wanted to mess with it anyway? Ignorance is much worse when those demonstrating it are in denial about their ignorance (and try to compensate by just making **** up).
Yeah, it was the pure. He seemed to know what it was. He said at one point "another reason it might not work is, it might not be fully compatible with Verizon". I assured him there are hundreds and hundreds of Verizon users with this phone.
I have both the Note 5 and X Pure. The Moto is rooted with TWRP recovery and I DO get LTE. The Note 5 will never be rooted because of Verizon but I knew that going in.
I wished I weighed Verizon's locked bootloader thing heavier when I decided to switch. US Cellular has the same or better coverage than Verizon, here in Maine, but all of their phones have unlocked bootloaders. Within 5 minutes of getting home, you can have a rooted and rom'ed samsung. I probably should go back lol. But I think they will be locking bootloaders soon however.
Lmao dude is a joke of the year. The employee of course

Ok, well, now I feel bad. It turns out it is Gravity box that is breaking the radio. So I figured I'd start fresh with gravity box, and just make one individual change at a time to see which broke the LTE. First mod, I swapped the navbar keys, and soft booted, and NO NETWORK of any kind. I just did a full reboot, and it's back, and LTE is working. I guess Gravity box is very beta still for MM.
Edit: so I've finally finished adding all of my usual gravity box mods, one a time. Which sucked. But LTE is still working. And I think Pandora works still. So it was worth it. Something in my Gravity box data that TiBu was restoring must have been corrupted or something.

ha, weird..i wonder if thats why my X kept dropping to 3g all the time, or just having no network at all (1x) whereas my note 4 would be completely fine on LTE all the time. crazy. never even thought gravitybox would do that since i didn't do any network mods. weird.
Thanks for the laugh. I am also on Verizon and rooted and heavily modified using Layers, lol

Unlocked and rooted.
Was on latest CM 10.2 nightly.
4g started coming in and out and eventually I just lost 4g. Everything else was fine.
Friday I went to the store and got a new sim card. Since I was still on CM10.2, I couldn't *228 and reactivate because the keyboard doesn't come up once you connect, but eventually, after a few reboots my 4g was back.
As an aside, they noticed I was unlocked and rooted but since it was a reseller, not a corp store, I think they let it slide.
4g works fine the rest of the day Friday.
Saturday, does the same thing. In and out and then finally lost.
Powered off and replaced the sim a few times. No luck.
Wiped and flashed my last verion of Stock and still no luck.
Went into ##7764726 and found where I could force LTE only (You can't do it through stock settings)
Reboot and 4g works fine, but I lost regular mobile service. ie; can't make phone calls.
Went into settings, toggled between Global --- LTE/CDMA got my mobile service back, but lost 4g again.
Did this a few times. Consistently the same results.
I haven't used Matt's utility yet to go back to bone stock, but before I do that, any other ideas?
TIA

Did you ever mess with the "band" in the 3 dot menu in the phone info hidden app? Or test mode may also bork your radio partition in the same unfixable way. Rsd is the only. DIY or see my restore sticky. Data wipe is a must before you rsd.
I didn't see a 3 dot menu and so I didn't mess with the band. At least not that way. I'm not using a third party app. I just dialed the key sequence to get to the settings.
I'll try RSD tonight when I get off shift or as soon as I can this week.
BTW, I hadn't made any changes when this first started other than restoring VZW settings in build prop for @ecips CM 11 rom. But the build prop has since been written over several times each time I wipe and flash or restore a ROM.
Thanks.

I cannot say. Restore your stock rom though recovery & test.
Looked around a little more and Band says: US Cellular 800mz.
I'm on VZW. That could be it.
I don't know how to change it on my phone.
I can't RSD till I get home tonight.

Cellzealot knows bout this.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you #228 it kills your LTE. At least it does on Verizon...
IIRC when you do that, you need a new SIM...
Anyways...
I think you might have a weak 4g signal. When it's on 4g/3g/1x, it defaults to 3g due to the weak LTE signal. When on LTE only, it has to stick on LTE. Of course since LTE can't do voice or SMS(?), those won't work...

I've read that before.
This happened though before I tried *228 for the first time.
I've also been in and out of strong 4g areas, so I'm not sure it's a signal strength issue.
Also, when I look at my signal strength, I'm receiving 1x and 4g signals with the 4g signal generally being stronger (lower db).
Interestingly, SMS works when I'm on LTE only. The only problem is that I can't make or receive calls.
Going to try a few resets now with RSD and/or Matt's utility.
Last options will be a new sim, or gasp, trying to get the phone replaced. I've had it less than two months, so time-wise, I'm good for the warranty. Unfortunately, it's unlocked....
I couldln't get RSDlite to install on my PC. Win 7 64bit. I got an administrative rights error. I'm the administrator on my PC. I know there's a fix for it and I did a few searches, but my brain is shot.
I used Matt's Utility and restored this back to the stone age and didn't do any of the google updates. Still stuck on 3g.
I'll try again tomorrow, but chances are my sim card is shot. But, why would I go through 2 sim cards in one week?
I also looked at @Zealots thread. That seems to be more for flashing a VZW phone onto another network. I'm in the opposite boat. But again, the brain's tired. I'll try again tomorrow.
Thanks guys for your advice.

I tried that. Right click on the .msi, but Run as Administrator wasn't an option. I've run into that before with other apps and that's worked.
I downloaded RSDLite 6.1.5 (I think), unzipped it and then installed. I'm thinking I made my mistake somewhere in there, but I'm not sure where.
Also, as a side note, I did some reading and know I understand why @Zealots fix may help.
Voice is basically over CDMA which is ruim. LTE is basically gsm which is sim. I may need to tell my phone to actually use sim when it's set to ruim/ in settings. The full restore through RSD might achieve the same goal.
At least I think that's right.
I also understand that we don't have true voice over LTE. VZW LTE devices effectively are using two radios at once. the 1x/CDMA/EVDO radio and the LTE radio.
Both seem to work on my phone, just not together.

Ah right. .msi files theoretically should attempt to elevate while running.
That's not quite the case. LTE has no voice built in at all. Technically, when your phone switches from 3g to LTE, it's jumping network types. VZW doesn't have any GSM voice capability - it's all done over CDMA. When your phone is in LTE only mode, you'll never have voice. At least not unless we get LTE-A on the M, assuming that's even possible. Interestingly enough, the SIM handles CDMA affiliation as well (same as doing #228 does) - all your account data and PRLs and stuff are on the SIM card.
Yes there are two radios (also why LTE is such a battery drain - it's literally a separate radio board).
A full restore would be a good idea, and you could also try someone else's VZW SIM in the phone. You may have 3 different points of failure here: hardware (phone radio is screwed, you're SOL), software (full restore or OTA update should fix that), or SIM (get a new SIM... Again... Lol). If we can isolate it to the phone or SIM, that should help us figure out the problem.
EDIT: WAAAIT a second. You're on 10.2? Was your network mode on the default that came with the ROM? Cause that doesn't work. That might be your problem
EDIT 2: you need to be on "LTE / CDMA / EvDo". Anything else probably WON'T work.

I used Matt's utility/suite and restored to stock. I believe that uses RSDlite. Once I restored to stock I had the same problem. I don't know if using just RSDlite does the same thing, but once I get it installed I'll give it a shot.
Regardless of which ROM I use I'm on LTE/CDMA/EvDO and I don't get LTE.
I can get a good LTE signal if I choose LTE only either through the ROM settings (CM, AOKP, etc) or ##program on stock.
I've had the phone almost two months and been on a variety of ROMs; stock through 4.4 based. This only started last week.

By this you mean that I've effectively ruled out it being a software issue and it's either the card or hardware?
So, let's say it's the card and I swing by and they pop in a new one. Any idea how to keep this from happening again? Or can a bad radio(s) fry a card?

Bad radio boards could fry a card. I'm sure it's possible. Whether it's happened before or not, I have no idea.
Yeah, I'd try a new SIM. Looks like you might have gotten two lemon SIMs in a row...

It's a retail store that sells exclusively VZW but it's not a corporate store. Maybe they get the leftovers.

Do you regret getting a spark phone? I really hate the idea of losing simu voice and data. To those of you that used to multi tasking-do you miss that? Enough to want to switch back to a 2 band phone?
Sprints coverage map says I live in a perfect spark area, but they say that about 4g too and I get speeds of .55u, .65d 80p (last speed test). So I am nervous about trusting that-starting not to trust anything from Sprint. It just seems ridiculous to be the only us carrier not to support simu v/d. From what I have found voLte is not a priority. On Sprint community some reps are saying that they are "working on fixing spark to allow v/d" but is that like saying we are working to pay down the national debt (to quote another frustrated user). V/d on Wi-Fi is pointless to me- if I am at home I can use my house phone or my computer so I don't need both, but away from home is when I need simu v/d.
Not enough to switch back to my s4.

Nope not at all. Very rarely do I find the non-simultaneous voice/data thing a problem. Besides this is a temporary thing until they get VoLTE going by 2016. Having spark and getting LTE in interior of buildings is well worth the trade-off.

The problem I see with that is-this is Sprint we are talking about here. More than likely they will have some backward 3rd world engineered system that gets delayed 2 years then when it gets half deployed they will realize they forgot to include an on switch or something, and end up scrapping the entire idea. I hate to plan on them doing anything when they say they will. Better off planning that it will always take them an entire contact period longer than what they expect.
I love the idea of better penetration I am just afraid of the wrong kind since we are dealing with Sprint lol.

That is a really old article that has no backing from Sprint. Especially since Sprint has said it is not planning to do volte. Not to mention that according to the article we should expect it now and not in 2016. Sorry but that is just speculation. Granted even if it was an official Sprint release I would not hold my breath. I would love to see it, but I highly doubt it will happen in the next 2 years.

I am not trying to be argumentative here I am just trying to have realistic expectations. You are correct Sprint has not said that it will not ever do VoLte, but they have said it is not a priority, so it is more a matter of when. According to the second article “The reason you don’t see us rushing to VoLTE is because we’ve already got a strong HD Voice programme, and we’re rolling out a VoWifi product offering too. Over time, we’ll be evolving to VoLTE, but less aggressively because we’ve got a successful technology.” I take that to mean not anytime in the near future- maybe our 3-5year plan, no where do they say 2016 either.
They hopefully have figured out that this is much more of a big deal than they initially thought. Personally I take Sprints lack of talk about VoLTE to mean they are not worried about it much. They have to be worried about it but that does not mean that they will take action any time soon. Hey maybe they are planning a surprise gift for us and will boom one day have Volte ready for us overnight- but like I said I want to be realistic. Historically speaking Sprint has been the king of technical blunders.
It is not that I dis like Sprint or that I distrust them. I think that they are trying but they are such a organizational mess and never seem to actually have thought out their plans before they implement them. I have been with Sprint long enough to know that whatever the project or upgrade- it will inevitably take longer than they announce- without fail. I know enough to not plan my future on what Sprint says is coming- that will only lead to disappointment and anger.
Most people seem to complain about connection service or customer service. I love the voice coverage, data coverage and speeds have always been (and still are to be desired) they are much better than historically but in comparison the other networks do data much better. Customer service has never been a problem for me- phone reps are A+ in my books but then again I have always contacted employee care and not regular overseas CS. My CS experience w VZW was horrendous in comparison to Sprint. In store it is hit and miss- but since I rarely ever go to a store that is not an issue for me. They do need to work on consistency.
I already have a dual band s4 so I can do SVD, but I am trying to figure out if the idea of potentially "faster" data is worth losing SVD. Most phone calls end up with some SVD right now, so what I am going to try to do is resist doing it and see how pisd I get.
My biggest worry is GPS and SVD as well as streaming and calls. I know back in the day that I would stream hockey games and sometimes I would end that and have VMs piled up, other times using a hotspot my dad would get upset because he would get kicked off his connection when the phone rang. I never figured out why sometimes a call would interrupt the data connection and others it would not. It always seemed that if it was a nonstop stream - that the voice call would not interrupt the data call.
Heres the thing....when I first got the note 4 I was upset because I felt mislead due to the fact that nobody informed me of the no V/D situation but I can say that VOLTE is coming I work on cell towers building the infrastructure for sprint AT&T and Tmobile when I had my S2 I never really had true 4g. But then I got my s4 and it was worth the wait....be patient young grass hopper good things come to those who wait....and remember the sprint customer service will tell you.... if you really need voice and data at the same time just use wifi....I mean vome on its 2015 doesnt everyone have wifi enabled cars? System right now and when we get that done they will roll out an update and flip the switch on VOLTE. Its classic sprint to not give any ETA. Hold tight VOLTE is on its way.....I six more months tops

Anyway to verify what your saying?
Glad to hear we might eventually have VoLTE. Even though at home and work I have WiFi and it's rare for me to be browsing the Web while on a call anyways. And just an FYI anyone experiencing alow data look up the classic tutorial about zeroing out sprints proxys. Using ##3283# the ones you zero out are under Multimedia and DSS. You need your MSL which you can get from Sprint. They tried to screw me around but the first rep I had was a moron and said that I was trying to SIM unlock my phone when really I wasn't and even I was that isn't the code I need. Just tell them you're having data issues and you want to reset your profile using ##786#(I think that's the one) and it's asking for your MSL and if the rep isn't a complete idiot they'll just give it to you. Zero out proxys, reboot, profit. Another FYI if you update PRL or profile after this mod it will put them back so you'll have to repeat. My speeds went up about 20%~ after on my note 4.

We have multiple bands and I believe our Note 4 has the one needed for VoLTE I just don't think it's used just yet. I could be wrong though I'm just taking a shot in the dark going off the fact that this phone supports sprint spark.

Wrong.
It has nothing to do with bands.
I'm pretty dissatisfied with how far locked down the flagship phones are on Verizon, as well as not being quite as impressed as I thought I would be with their coverage. After looking over my data usage the last few months, I think I might have something to gain by switching to Project Fi. I don't expect the Nexus 6P to be the same powerful device I might have if I were to stick to the Galaxy line (which I'd been with since the Galaxy S), but I think it'll get done what I want to get done and be happy with it. Plus, I'll finally be able to root again. Real root. New roms and stuff. wooooooo

You may have jumped ship a little to soon. There's a Yemen team who have, or about to have, achieved root on the Verizon Note 4. There's mention of a release sometime around March 15 or so. Not to sure about the boot loader, but it looks like we may be able to at least root our phones pretty soon.

I'm just kinda done at this point. Too many false claims for root and Verizon/Samsung may have permanently lost business due to how locked down the device is. Damage done. Moving on...
I browsed the Project Fi page to see what it was all about again. I'm a little impressed, but also disappointed. It piggy backs off Sprint and T-mobile. And where I'm at, Sprint sucks and T-Mobile is non-existent. According to the coverage map for Fi, LTE coverage is very limited to say the least, most areas of the country are 3g or 2g. For the most part this isn't a problem, I'm mostly on Wi-Fi at home or work. I would just have some concerns over those times I'm not at home and don't have access to a Wi-Fi network. I think I'm better off paying for the Verizon network and just ditching this locked down phone when I get a chance for a Nexus.
Calling Verizon later today to pay off the balance on my Note 4 and completely cancel service. So far, I'm seeing better coverage away from home with Fi. Also, add the fact that I have an unlocked bootloader, root, etc... I'm pretty happy so far.
Don't get me wrong, I love this phone despite the bugs. Software bugs.
However I've a serious issue regarding the 3G/LTE module. 3G/LTE performances are not consistent at all.
Sometimes it goes well (chatting, sending pictures, even testing the speed with a speed test) but other times the connection "hangs" and I'm not able to do anything for seconds or minutes (download pictures from whatsapp, sending text with telegram or open web pages). After that time, the connection seems to work again. When this Is happening, phone is at full signal.
Please note that I never had these issues with all my previous phones (Nexux 5, Nexus 5X, OnePlus 3T) with the same SIM card and under the same conditions (places, time of the day). I've performed all the updates available (software version 4.5.4) and cleaned the cache many times using the recovery.
I'm asking your help: is there some debug feature I can activate in order to see what is happening and understand the problem? Many thanks.
What carrier do you have?
ATT had to load my phone into there system. I'm in Seattle, WA USA
After they did that LTE has been perfect!

Since I'm on ATT and I might get a OP5 I gotta ask how you went about this. Because I can see me telling customer service this and them not having the slightest clue what I'm talking about.

Basically you'd call in and ask to register your phone. It's not actually necessary but they do this anyway when you ask for a replacement sim. All they do is get your IMEI off your phone and add it to your account. Though with the 3 it already showed up during use. I don't think it matters much at all. Haven't had an issue with the 5 in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Nevada. I've simply plugged in the sim to this phone and went on my way since day 1.

Just to give you the big picture, I'll include everything that happened when I got my OP5 in terms of registering the phone on AT&T's network...
I got the OP5 and I came from a OPO, so I needed a new nano SIM card. I went to AT&T and they gave me a new sim but they were not able to get LTE signal at all. I was impatient and really didn't want to wait around so the rep and myself came up with excuses on why it wasn't working so I could get out of there. HSPA+ was the best I could get and it was about ~5Mbps up/down and I was happy with that for now.
I got home and decided to call in. Usual phone tree hell with AT&T began but I eventually got a level 2 Android technician. I will note the default values within the phone tree took me to iPhone support. Anyhow, the level two technician verified that my phone was not getting LTE. Furthermore, the device was not registered in the system at all. He gave me two options (which from the sounds of things, he wasn't supposed to do) 1.) I could just deal with the HSPA+ connection and it could take up to 5 days to fully load the phone but my phone would work perfect in terms of service/coverage/data rates (HSPA+) or 2.) He could load a Samsung S7 mock profile to my phone and it would more than likely work fine but don't hold him accountable for it. He said if it were him, he'd go for the S7 mock profile so I went with it.
Immediately I got an LTE signal and he had me reboot my phone. I've zero issues as he figured would happen and everything has been perfect. I got a confirmation text message from AT&T saying my phone will be loaded by July 6th and originally the technician told me around July 14th.
Anyhow, that was just my experience and a good experience at that. Of course, popping a sim out and back into a new phone would be ideal but a non-contracted AT&T device has to get loaded at some point and time I guess, right?
Cheers!

Did you try rebooting the phone before calling? That is what happened with my Moto X Pure and no one knew what to do at the store. The manager came out and rebooted it and it got LTE and worked fine after that.

You mean, did I remember to turn it off and back on again? Yes, we tried that. Haha
It wasn't until the AT&T tech adding the profile to the network that it works. It was instant too.

Anyone else on Sprint with the S10?
Note 8, and S8+ works fine. My S10+ is getting 1x and when I'm on the road, it would come in and out all day long. Without WiFi the phone is almost useless.

i have the exect same issue with s10e..i thought it was only s10e because its a cheaper model..what do we do..plus also my wifi is pritty bad..only on this device
My wifi works fine but I have very limited if any data signal and I can hardly send or receive text messages....
No one has a fix?
I called the sprint store and the guy said lots of these new S10 series phones have connectivity issues.
He said their tech has a fix for it but it may not be effective. He said Samsung needs to release an update to fix it.
I've got the S10+

Switch to verizon, att, or cricket. Sprint is bottom of barrel of carriers sadly. I learned that the hard way back when carriers has 2 year contracts.

I used to believe in this statement.. But when I walk around with a phone from Verizon (business), Srint (Personal) and AT&T hotspot service, I realized this is very not true.
There are locations where each carrier is stronger than others. At one of my job site, Verizon and AT&T fail to connect at all constant roaming and drop calls while Sprint skips along like no body cares.
Point, additionally, as each carrier acquire and deploy new bands, they need to be built out so the newer devices that support the bands can utlize it relieving the crowded older bands.
HOWEVER, this stupid phone, with SignalCheck Pro installed, I can see the bands I'm on but the signal stregnth is horrible, like at the moment, i'm connected to band 41 but LTE is at -117dBm, that's almost like not having signal at all. Likewise when I'm connected to band 25 and 26.
I tried disabling all those bands and force it onto the lower frequency with hardly any success.

Can you disable or remove that signal check program? Not all sognal check programs are legit.
What country are you in?
That may be part of the problem.
I agree, carriers do have their own pros and cons.

I'm in the US
and yes the program can be uninstalled, but it was only installed because I need to troubleshoot this issue, so it's not the program that's causing the problem. It's just telling me what band I'm on and the signal.

It's not just you. There are multiple threads on Sprint's forums with users complaining. My phone constantly roams, the WiFi calling keeps timing out on location and though it says LTE most of the time data doesn't work. Lucky for me I keep a spare phone so I'll be switching back to my iPhone X until they resolve this but there's been no official word on any of this getting resolved so I'm not expecting a solution any time soon. I'm wondering if it was the update I installed that caused this because it seemed like day 1 the phone was ok. Maybe a solution is to use Odin and flash back to the original stock.

They had me reset network settings which I did and it didn't help. They're sending me a replacement phone... Once I get it I'll prevent the Samsung update and see if that helps. Idk I really wanted to like this phone.

I have the sprint version purchased from S
Spent an hour with samsung to no resolution. Took my verizon sim and dropped it on the S10 and the phone was getting good signal and speed then dropped for a couple minutes then back to good speeds. But as it's doing this, the phone started to get very warm. Sprint tech support doesn't know crap, just make me repeat their written process multiple times and the guys at the sprint stores are just salesman.
Since the verizon seems shows intermitten connections as well, i'm going to see if samsung can send me a replacement.
