Can I use a cover for i9500 in my i9505 ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't see any diference between 9500 and 9505 (Body, buttons position, size...)

Yes you can. Seems like a metallic case. You should know that those reduce your signal strength for wifi and mobile.

GPS Problems? Poor Reception? Accessories to Blame?

Just a heads up to anyone experiencing GPS and or reception issues, if you have any aftermarket accessories, be conscious that they may be the cause of your problems.
I've had GPS not been able to lock for a while now, and it turns out that the sole cause of this was an aftermarket metal battery cover. As soon as I put back the stock plastic one, I got a full 8 satellite lock within 20 seconds.
Any metal case, cover, bumper, etc could be having a negative impact on your reception and or GPS. This was definitely the case for my I9100
Yes! can confirm this I had the same issue a while back.

Yup, general thing.
Had the same thing happening on the HD2 just like alot of other people who bought the rubber like protection things when they just came out.
Actually it just not only blocks GPS but also wifi and mobile signal a bit which results in a bigger battery drain too.

It was quite annoying to realize that I've gotten lost a few times the past few months all due to an accessory I paid money for
Makes sense why early iPhone 4's had problems with reception, due to the metal housing
So it's just the metal cases? I've a gel case for my SGS2 and it works great with it

Yes, my plastic case works fine.

It's not the iPhone's fault brother, like 'he' said; "You're holding it wrong."
On a serious note, the case definitely have impact to signal and heat dissipation. Once upon a time, my HD2 was plagued by signal+heat issue due to some crappy case.

I get you cand send e-maild but sms', no. . Since I don't know where you are from, go to your local network operator store and ask someone to give you the right number for message centre. This should be stored on your SIM card but it seems to be a little problem.

No issues with that here on AT&T.
I'd say no one can accidentally death grip their Ones. I can drop one bar of each if I press the stripes hard against my palm.

Nice to know that.
I didn't find any death grip yet. But one thing is annoying that if you grab light proximity sensor autobrightness gets crazy (as it should be ofc)
If I have my hand at the top of the device (e.g. when holding it horizontally when watching a video) the WiFi drops from full signal to just the dot in the icon

Mine doesn't do that, I just tried it and the WiFi signal stays as strong as ever.
My T-Mobile one is not affected with service or WiFi signal with even a TWO hand death grip.
I have never had a cell phone with such a great carrier and wifi signal.
Same router, same house, same room, my HTC One vs Xperia Arc 2k11 device get twice the bandwidth.
best phone I have ever had. No death grip, no airline crack in top, no flaws whatsoever.

So if you touch a transmitter there is some attenuation?
Call the cops!
Its also only sprint HTC Ones that seem affected.
I have AT&T and when I support the phone with my shoulder... People can't hear me... And this hasn't happened only once... Multiple times. Left shoulder to ear so go figure... But sad

I get the exact same thing! I thought it was just me... Every time I have to tuck it between my ear and shoulder, no one can hear a word I'm saying. It's not the ideal position to hold it, granted, but it's the only phone I've ever owned that's had this problem. I'm just glad to hear it's not just something I'm doing wrong!

Well the mic is at the bottom... So definitely not covering it. Maybe covering the small hole on the back (assuming it's the noise cancellation mic) but that shouldn't matter... Did you try?

I'm having the same issue. Left shoulder, no one can hear me. Right shoulder, people hear me fine. I'm positive I'm not covering the normal mic.
I think it has to do with the noise cancellation mic, as that is the only difference. My guess is either it covers the mic so it can't pick up anything (and somehow that messes things up) or it covers the opening so the mic only picks up sound transmitting physically through my face (and then the noise cancellation mic is hearing mostly the same as the front mic so it cancels it out).
I'm hoping it can be fixed with a software upgrade, it's definitely annoying.

I have a o2-One (Germany) and simply by holding it in my left Hand normally signal goes down form -85 dBm 14 ASU to -97 dBm 7 ASU.
Not that I care too much though, because that is pretty normal and not really a death grip. It' more like a little weakening grip
On EE here in the UK, phone doesn't have any noticeable loss of signal from normal use but it is possible to tightly grip it and cause signal loss.
Other than that... In normal use wifi and 4g/3G signal are much better than iPhones in the same household!

GPS Issues?

Last night I turned to Google Maps for the first time since switching from an iPhone 6s Plus. I was used to instant satellite fixes and precise positioning on the map. Instead, my s7 edge placed me hundreds of meters away in the middle of the Tiber river. As I drove, fix updates were intermittent and wildly fluctuating. The device proved unless when walking, too. I've checked to make sure that all location features are on.
Anyone experiencing similar issues?
Thanks.
I had the note 4 and that phone was terrible at gps signal, I switched to iphone 6+ and never once experienced a gps issue. Now i have edge s7 and its been better but a few instances it has lost gps signal.... it must be a samsung or android thing, its too bad ill be switching to iphone 7 , i love android but honestly iphone are simply better at what they do. Heck even the fingerprint all the apps worked fine with iphone , I can't get more than 1 app working on my edge.
Yeah, a deal breaker for me as I live in Rome, Italy and really need reliable GPS to find my way around. Guess it's back to the iPhone. sigh
It seems like it's the magnetic sensor the problem. Try dialing *#0*# and under Sensor, and then look at the Magnetic Sensor, should be a blue line and a "3" in the black circle, if not, that's why your GPS is going crazy.
Here's my thread about the problem, post in it if you could:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3339976
It was a common problem with the S6 Edge that I had...
I'm interested in knowing if you guys have a fix for this issue. I checked my sensor and the line was red with a "0". I calibrated it, and it looks fine... However, I guess I will lose this if I reboot the phone?

Might have been the problem. My compass was not calibrated. Just calibrated and will see if GPS improves. I really want to stay with the s7 so I hope this fixes it. I posted info in your other thread.

That is correct, once you reboot, you have to recalibrate the GPS/Magnetic Sensor... Oh, @opeth771 where are you located?
I'm trying to figure out if it's Exynos only, as currently that seems to be the case.
GPS has been awesome on my S7 Edge Snapdragon. Fastest and most accurate signal compared to any other android phone I have owned.

Mine is an Exynos. Hope they find a fix as recalibrating, while not difficult, is a pain.

Do you mind dialing *#0*# and looking under Sensors and Magnetic Sensor and see what is in the black circle, and this after you've rebooted your phone?
Curious if those of you with an Exynos are using branded phones that have received firmware updates or not. Mine was purchased direct from Samsung Italia and has not received any recent OTA updates that I understand were pushed by some providers. Just looking for possible clues.
How to calibrate? I have a red line with 0, self test says PASS. Is the noise test to calibrate? Do i have to put it on a stable surface for calibrating and does GPS need to be on?

Just rotate the phone along the 3-axis and it'll calibrate and a # "3" should appear as well as a blue line in the black circle.

I want to buy the S7 but I am worried about gps. I don't use gps with car, I use it while i'm walking and playing Ingress, often in narrow streets with high buildings (I live in Italy), so I need a very accurate positioning. What is the accuracy of the S7 GPS outdoor? Can you please make a test with the app ''GPS test''? And maybe post a screenshot of the accuracy and of the satellite's signal strenght? Thank you.

I'll do in the morning and post then. I'm also in Italy. I have an issue that degrades my GPS accuracy - the compass needs to be recalibrate after each restart. Otherwise, accuracy is off hundreds of meters. Seems to affect the non-SD units like those sold here.

Low Signal Indoor

Hi,
My Zuk Z1 signal strength reception is so low that it doesn't even pickup signal when indoor (strangely sometimes it picked up signal, sometimes not and only showing no data sim)
But at the out door the signal is very good
This happened after I disseasembled the device to change the camera part. I've rechecked all the parts and there is no defect or something broken in the signal cable or anything else.
Any help?

If it was even better before you disassemble it then you maybe did something wrong. Did you used new metal tape in case you removed it?
Otherwise which rom did you have. I had the same problem until nougat builds came up. Then the signal was better then on all mm roms or cos. I did not disassemble at all.
