I have had my HD2 for a little over a year now, nice phone but had several issues with it. Occasionally draining from near full battery to completely dead overnight, screen discoloured as if its on 256 colour setting, blue tinted bands of colour across the screen and occasionally not being recognised by USB. Also occasionally just locks up requiring a soft reset, which usually happens when im out and about with out a pen or other sharp object to do this leaving me without a usable phone.
I called HTC regarding these issues and how much to repair, they told me to buy a new phone which IMO is not acceptable advice and to me shows the lack of reliability in this device and HTC in general.
I notice you can now switch completely to Android OS, but if my hardware is stuffed then there is no point doing this to my phone.
I would like to repair it if possible and if its not going to cost half the value of the phone or more. I have searched for the problems I am having but havent really found any good information to pin point what the problem may be and how much to repair.
My question is, repair or replace (with a non HTC phone of course) with a new phone? Iphones seem to be much more reliable than HTC (judging by friends), but Iphone screen is too small IMO. It is primarily a business phone now as well.
Im thinking Samsung Galaxy maybe?? Im looking for an Android phone.
Any suggestions welcome. I basically like the specs of the HD2 but just want a reliable phone.
FYI still running on stock ROM never messed with any of that.

Fisrst off I am not saying you don't have a hardware problem as you may will have one. Bit I am willing to bet most of the issues you are having, if not all, are coming from the stock ROM you are using. Especially if you are using the 3.10 stock ROM it was a very unstable ROM in my opinion. If I was you I would first look and see if it is a 3,14 official stock ROM you can upgrade your HD2 to and flash that ROM. Give the ROM atleast two to four days of use to see if you can notice a difference. If you can not upgrade with a officcial stock ROM then I say go with a custom ROM, aAndroid ROM, or even a Windows Phone 7 ROM from here on XDA. But like I said give whatever you flash a good couple of days to see if you notice any of the old issues.
I am currently running Android on my HD2 and it is very smooth. I will be going back to Windows Mobile before long though as I miss the true functionality Windows Mobile has as a portable computer if you will, but that is just my personal opinion hours my differ.
If you flash your HD2 with any of what I mentioned earlier and you still see issues with the screen, battery drain, or SD card not being recognized then you probably have hardware issues and at that point if you still want to get a different phone feel free to as it is you that has to be happy with the device you have.
One last thing I do suggest you go for a Windows Mobile custom ROMfirst bbegore Android or WP7 if you can not upgrade to a official stock 3.14 Windows Mobile ROM as it will be less hard for you to adjust to using a Windows Mobile ROM than Android or Windows Phone 7 on your HD2. If you have any other questions post them here or feel free to PM me if you want.
Hi all, new owner of an N9007 here. This is a reluctant upgrade from a Note II that I completely destroyed - it fell out of my pocket just as I got in the car, and timed its fall so well that as I shut the car door, I smashed it between the door and the door frame. Then it hit the asphalt. Then I got out and stomped on it and shot it three times with a revolver (not really, but I probably should have for completeness).
Getting a new phone reintroduces me to bloatware every time.... I am not a fan. Can anyone tell me:
- any known faults that I should look out for before I do anything that risks my warranty?
- how does the N9007 fit into the model range as far as ROMs go? Can I use a 9005 ROM?
- I am not sure I need a custom ROM anyway, as I gather I can get root without one. I am thinking that this might be enough - kill all the bloatware, etc, run ES File Explorer properly etc, but otherwise leave it alone. Anyone have a view on this?
- Do I understand correctly that I can root this without tripping knox, but can't run a custom ROM without tripping knox?
- what's the ROM of choice anyway?
I was really happy with my Note 2 but it was cheaper to get a new Note 3 than to replace or repair the Note 2.. A Note 4 was available but honestly just too expensive for my liking. The Note 3 was basically free except I had to contract for 2 years.
Anyway, here I am, nice to meet you all etc. This is a nice phone I have to say. Interesting how it feels smaller than the Note 2.
Jason
Hi there,
I also got a new N9007 the other week. How is your battery life? Mine has been bad since I got it, I can barely make it through the day on a single charge with moderate use (wifi on, social media, all the bells and whistles turned off). I have already had the handset replaced and bought a new battery (aftermarket) but still I see the battery draining badly when I use it.
I'm thinking of rooting it but want to wait until the phone shop gets a new replacement battery in.
After updating to 6.0.1 (Alexandar rom - which is pretty much stock + TW) from the 5.1.1
- worked ok for 1 week but used to get constant freezes and reboots
- suddenly one day - it became unbearable
- came up with eMMC failure
- could not flash with ODIN
- would boot up occasionally - but then after a few hours would go into download mode showing ODIN failure with eMMC write failure.
- Occasionally would flash new rom and would work - struggled with this for a couple of weeks, but needed constantly taking out the battery and keep pressing the power button.
- tried multiple factory reset, erasing the SD card, changing sim etc etc etc.....
- Tried PIT flashing - failed a few times, but ultimately went throught -> phone was pretty much useless, constant reboots
- was nearly giving up - thinking it would be a NAND failure
I realised that after installing stock rom with android recovery - it used to function properly. Once TWRP was installed, it would become slow and get random reboots and freezes.
Installed latest firmware using Kies - 6.0.1; phone seems to work a lot better.
Using odin - reflashed stock 5.1.1, rebooted and then installed TWRP - everything seem to work smoothly!!!
Installed Alexandar ROM ver 2.7 - phone is back to smooth functioning.
has anyone faced similar problems??
Sounds like it a problem with TWRP. Have you tried installing the latest version of TWRP on your device?

Yes - same with all old and new versions
Post wrong..delete...thz.
I had the same problem.. Contacted samsung and they swap my mainboard...
I think you have contact samsung for it..
Yes I've gone through 2 note 4s so far. And people complain about lg. Second one failed today. The emmc lasts about a year then dies at the exact October
My God! This news are scary! Same happened with Note 3 for me. If this happens with this one too then I am out of Samsung for good.
same here...after exactly two years. BOOM. emmc boot fail. I'm out of guaranty now.. and now my phone is at a center specialized care who will try to regenerate the motherboard without replacing it
same, emmc failure ratio seems to be quite high with note 4s

I wonder if one could replace the faulty chip on the mainboard...have 2 Note's, a third in spares with a faulty mainboard and another good replacement mainboard in case one of the our good note's may need them!
Came across this on my S3 where overnight I lost all data as the mainboard failed. Still cannot get my head around that a giant company like scamsung can continue producing crap like this and getting away with it.
They even have the nerves to ask prices at the same insane level as the gay-phones.
Who's willing to fork out 650€ and plus for a device like this and a year later its main memory chip fails?!
The only reason I am hanging onto my Note 4 is for the S-pen function. My Lenovo Zuk1 performs equally if not better than the flagship Note 4 and has only cost me around 200€...does not have the S-pen but come with dual SIM. I will never buy a new Samsung if I ever buy another Samsung, lots of cheaper alternatives that do the job equally.
edit. Sorry I misundersood your post, but I am leaving my reply as it is. Yeah it is sad when you pay so much for a phone and it fails after 2 years when the warranty is gone : (
I think the replacement of emmc can be done by skilled professional (only). You can buy emmc chips, but that would be very difficult repair. This is why changing the whole mobo swap is the most popular solution. Btw, I thinking about buying chinese n9100 mobo with dual slim slot. It is probably the cheapest you can get and it looks like maybe it would fit in n910x, maybe somebody can confirm this.
edit2
There is quite a lot of N4s with this issue on ebay nowadays, people buy them thinking they will root it, flash a cool rom and it will work flawlessly. Just another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-freezing-restarting-t3348821
You are right...bought one of them with a "non working" display on ebay. Display remained black, on reboot the blue light would come on including audio...phone was recognised when connected to my laptop. Replaced the display only to confirm the mainboard was ready for the bin. There are several similar listings with so called broken displays while in reality these phones have mainboard issues...I stay well clear from Note 4's now, mine is not even 6 months old while the Note 4 from my wife is now 1.5 years old. Guess that's the one who will benefit first from my "spare" mainboard although I am not sure if the N910P ( American models) are affected as the N910F.
Here is a 100% hardware fix for this issue that anyone can do with no tools or special equipment.
It really works. Give it a try. ?

I'm using a ROM based on the Note 7 software. Exactly this one -> [N910G/F/T]Norma V6/ Aurora V3 N7 full Ports
But today i have read that Samsung still doesn't know what causes Note 7 devices to explode.
Outside experts have pointed to a range of possible culprits, from the software that manages how the battery interacts with other smartphone components to the design of the entire circuit.

Should i really care? If its software, my Note 4 can also explode, right?
explode
That's a good question!! I also wonder whether the note 7 software it is good for our hardware Note 4 .Maybe other people who know something?
Well, in terms of software I believe the part of it for the battery load etc. is not part of the android os. It should be independent like a bios.
Anything else would be a problem, because if the OS is not running, nothing else will work
Yes, your Note 4 can explode, as with any phone with a Lithium Battery can.
I doubt the Note7's exploded due to software, or if it was software it would have to have bad hardware accompanying it.
Our phones have all sorts of sensors and power management chips that work to prevent overheating beyond what the components can handle.
via Galaxy Note 4 +128GB MicroSDXC
If your battery is faulty yes there is the possibility that your device will exploded. But if the battery is fine, then you are OK!
If you tie a quarter stick of dynamite to it, it will. LOL.
OK, let's be serious,
I also pondered this question, even though they say they don't know, I find it hard to believe that software can do that without faulty hardware. Also the parts of the OS that are being ported to run on our device is just cosmetic (UI, apps). It doesn't change the way your phone charges and such. I do believe that's all handled by the kernel or bootloader.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Plus I notice from running these Roms, my phone doesn't get any hotter than normal. Only thing I've noticed make my phone hotter is having a different kernel installed.
If it was anything to do with software that would've been the one thing Samsung could have dealt with precisely. Nothing to do with software.
Every phone with lithium battery can explode, but it's highly unlikely especially since Note 4 has a removable one. Some say that since Samsung made the Note 7 so compact and cramped inside, it causes the cathode and anode to meet with the slightest bend or so. So, avoid thin phones. Btw, more and more Samsung explosions are being heard, lately the S7 Edge. I think there's a conspiracy behind this, LOL.
I think the explosion thing is just a fabricated thing. Millions in Europe are still using it but since Samsung stopped production, have you guys heard of any explosion? Just asking.

LOL! Unbelievable! These corporate conglomerates are one of the filthy things of this world. So when they have stopped production of the unit, send OTA update for limiting battery charging to 60% and sorts, they are more than scared about it, and obviously they officially acknowledge the problem, the hardware defect.
Jeez!
Lol. The problem on note 7 which exploding the device isn't from software.. it was hardware issue...

I am preety sure our note 4 is not water proof but i am definitely sure that note 4 is fire proof
@ithehappy come on bro, according to sources they haven't discovered the cause yet
Since the issue was battery (hardware) related, rom itself can't make your phone explode.
Even if it was software related, It still can't happen. We would needed direct port of note 7 kernel (with faulty charging rates), which is impossible.
Yeah...good luck getting Samsung to share that

So im looking to purchase a nokia 6.1 plus global, read that you have to pay to unlock this phones bootloader tho, and i dont wanna do that. After a while of searching through videos onlin eand some blatantly fake ones, i saw one of an indian dude following a tutorial from a website called techmesto, which provides a tool that can unlock your bootloader, free of cost. the only issue is that you need to be able to get an otp on the website, and only 15 are generated in a day, so you have to be patient and keep trying. I know many people here are looking into unlocking their device for free, so can anyone test it out and reply with whether it works or not? The comments are moslty favouring it, with some asking if it works on other devices. It'd really help out the community, and would help me make the purchase with confidence too. Best of luck,
yes it's working perfectly, already tried it on my 6.1 plus ID region.
got the otp code after 3-4 days trying and checking the website constantly.

Thank you so much for the info, im currently looking to upgrade from my galaxy j5 at a low cost, then an ad for a nokia 6.1 plus (4/64) showed up for around £45, with the box and charger. After taking a look at the specs, I just had to buy it, but upon looking for some good custom roms, i found that bootloader unlocking was paid, which didnt suit me. So your reply has really helped out, as now I can purchase the device with confidence!
4 other questions for you though,
1. How is the battery life on this device? Some people say it lasts a day on light usage, while others say it lasts about 4 hours (screen on time)
2. Have you ever experienced the "charging port" issue? Many people have reported a charging port manufacturing problem, which can be fixed by repalcing the port, although some claim that there are still issues after replacing the port as well.
3. Is the smaller screen size annoying? Compared to most of today's phones being 6.2" or so, does it not feel as good to use a smaller screen or do you just not notice? Are the bezel really big? I'm aware of the larger notch (which im actually a fan of), but what about the thickness of the bezels and chin?
4. Do you experience any random reboots, or slow speed/lag? People using the nokia stock rom (android 10) claim that the device will sometimes randomly reboot, and that the performance is terrible one android 10, along with the battery life becoming worse.
My final question is, do you think that it's a good device to upgrade to in 2022? Coming from the Snapdragon 410, I think the 636 will be much better, with double my previous phone's ram and 4x the storage, along with a sleek thin bezel design and a glass+alluminium construction. If you have any problems with the device, please tell me about them here, I need to make my purchase within 6 days, so your (and anyone else's) help would be appreciated.
My only other option in this price range is the redmi 9c, or the realme c11 (both of which i dont like because their chipsets are weak and they lack ram, software is also not too good and they run mediatek SoCs, so im not sure about custom roms on those devices).
I'd really appreciate if you could help me out here, sorry for the long post.
Thanks in advance!

And also one other question regarding the bootlaoder unlock. When did you unlock it? I've heard that it might not work if you try it on the android 10 update, but the phone im getting is fully updated, so do you know if it works on android 10 as well? Did you encounter any issues while doing it, or was it straighforward (other than the OTP)?

Sometimes it is the same. It depends on your individual using mode. Actually, the average battery life is a day of light usage I'm not a gamer.

It's a pretty annoying problem. I have encountered it since three years of using. But after replacing the charging board my phone works perfectly. Possible bugs associated with this for different users, I think, may arise due to geographical features and using of different bands. Or just a defective board.

Reboots and rare slowdowns are inherent in any device, regardless of performance. It all depends on the volume and complexity of the tasks. During normal use there are no friezes and reboots. But this is MY experience.

One more unpleasant thing: Another unpleasant thing that also happened after about three years of using was the vibration motor failing. But judging by the reviews of other users, this is not a mass problem, unlike the charging port.

Alright, thank you SO much for the help!
How much did the charging port replacement cost you though? The one I'm buying claims to never have been repaired, so do you think the original port will be fine or will i be forced to get it repaired later on?
A charging board that looks like the original one costs about $5. She works perfectly for me. WiFi, microphone and so on. I ordered it on AliExpress and replaced it myself. So, it cost me less than I would have paid at a service center.
But in this case, you need to have tools and skills to do it yourself.
You can only replace the type-c connector. This is more reliable(I think so...), and the connector itself is cheaper than the board (its cost is about $1.5-2), but the repair is more complicated and requires more serious tools and qualification, which involves soldering the connector.
How long such a repair will work is unknown. The factory connector worked a long time, I wrote above. But this is not a guarantee that a new or refurbished one will work as much.
Alright, thanks for the info
The entire charging port board is only $8 in my area, so that shouldnt be a problem. The adhesive on the back glass isnt too strong is it? I dont want to break the glass when replacing the port if I ever have to.

get other phone, nokia 6.1 plus is not worth for 2022.
fyi, now my phone constantly reboot and looks like my battery had a problem and to replace it i would had to wait 1 month or more.
after searching online, this problem is common in nokia after 3-4 years usage.
so if u had the money, get other phone like redmi note 10 pro or other.
i can get this nokia 6.1 plus used for around $50, while a brand new redmi note 10 costs $250.
Coming from a phone with a snapdragon 410 and terribly slow ram and emmc, this nokia will surely be 4-5x faster in terms of computing power. That's more than enough for me.
Either way, I won't actually be buying it as the listing I saw when I made this post was sold, and the other options aren't in such great condition for around $60.

About battery life - it's not true as for me. Nokia has good charge controllers and batteries themselves. It all depends largely on the mode of using. Specifically, my nokia 6.1+ has a battery capacity level of 84% from the date of purchase, which is more than three and a half years. In addition I don't observe any random reboots. This is my experience though...
