wakelock without root - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that recently in "Battery"'s "History details", "Awake" is pretty much solid all the time( I do _NOT_ have "root",
How should I go about finding which app is keeping my phone awake? I did not install any new apps recently, however I do update my apps all the time..

Without root there's pretty much nothing you can do. You'd need root to use BetterBatteryStats, which will pinpoint what's keeping the phone awake.

I have no idea what this is, what's showing up under the partial wakelocks and alarms tabs in BBS?

use the device in safe mode, if it's fine, you'll know thati t's from a third party app and the "uninstalling apps" game will start

it looks like it has something to do with missing blue tooth binaries inside of kernel, so not much of uninstalling apps left to do... the only app i can uninstall to get rid of wakelock is android wear, but then i'll loose sync to smart watch and that something I'm not ready to do just yet...
I submitted an issue to Google Android Issue Tracker:
Issue 198180 - android - NO DOZE - thanks to bluesleep kernel wakelock for keeping my phone awake all the time - Android Open Source Project - Issue Tracker - Google Project Hosting

It looks like you may have already rooted your phone based on the above comments and identifying the source of the wake lock, but for future reference it may be worth trying the PC version of wake lock detector to view your wake locks without Root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179651
I can confirm it works fine with Lolipop, although I haven't tested it with Marshmallow.

Thought so, it did look like it from the post Hopefully it will be handy if anyone stumbles on the post in the future via a search.
Good luck in getting the battery drain issue sorted!
As a side note while I don't have an Android Wear watch for a direct comparison, I do have a Pebble Time which is constantly connected via Bluetooth and it doesn't appear to be suffering from the same issue. Not directly relevant, but worth mentioning.

I do believe it's useful as well) Pebble Time watch doesn't use blue tooth same as Android Wear does, it's more like my UP2 and that's why you're not suffering from same issue...

I don't have wearable device. I only pair the phone with my car. But Bluetooth wakelock is almost always on. Wtf...

Bluetooth keeps my phone awake all the time also since the 6.0.1 update. This is when it's not connected to my car even. If I turn it off the phone will enter Doze mode just fine and it works as it should.

You need to turn bluetooth off when not using it. Do you by any chance use GasBuddy?

I don't use gas buddy. I never turned bluetooth off on 6.0 and never had this battery drain and the phone would go into doze mode fine. For now I do have it off. Hopefully they fix it in the next update.

as soon as I uninstall Weatherbug app off, my phone was able to enter deep sleep cycle and eventually doze off) I emailed to Weatherbug team, but it seems like they dropped the ball on Android app( I wrote to them earlier in regards to yet another bug a while back, yet they still haven't resolved it yet... honestly I don't even understand why Weatherbug needs to have "phone permissions" at the first place, it's not like it makes phone call or utilizes bluetooth anyhow...
anyways, it's pretty clear what needs to happen / only one thing left to do... UNINSTALL!!! oh and change my rating in PlayStore... maybe then they'll do something...

Battery drain due to google services on JB 4.3

Hello community,
there has been a problem that is driving me insane for a few days. I have had this problem with I think all roms based on android 4.3:
google services keeps my phone awake!
WIth trickster mod I could see that my phone never (!) goes into deep sleep. Wondering about that, I flashed some other 4.3 roms - same result. Google services is No.1 battery consumer. Please don't say... "it's your apps or gps that keeps your smartphone awake" because it is not!
After some research I found that many users, most prominently 4.3 users, have a similar issue. Appearently, there has been some problem with that since one of the latest updates so that either google maps, gps, google now, or services in general cause this drain. Updating did not help, going back to an older gapps version did not help me either.
Finally I went back to miui being based on 4.2.2 and ever since the drain has stopped and my phone enters deep sleep almost immediately after switching the screen off.
Who has the same problems? Has someone found a real solution, other than deactivating all google apps? At least, this did not help me...

Thx I have read it but did not find a solution to my problem as most still suggest to turn off gps or wlan options... Although I have to admit that it is related to my problem but yeah... searching the xda app is more than difficult
one user wrote to stop wifi from constantly scanning... will have to try this the next time I am going back to 4.3 but surely many (or all?) users are suffering from this?
Same problem here.
Flashed XL based on cm10.2 + core jb gapps (20130821) and immediately noticed this insane battery drain. Battery stats showed Google Services as a main cause of the drain, so I did some researching, and found out, that switching Location improvement (Wi-Fi & mobile network location) would walk around that wakelock bug in google services. So I turned it off, and it helped for a couple of days.
Then I decided to sync my contacts with google account, and after a while, I've noticed the battery drain again, but this time nothing helps. I believe I've switched off everything I could in every Google app I have, and yet the drain remains.
Hy im allso having this problem, snice yesterday battery drain from google services ..im still on CM 10.1.2 (4.2.2) waiting for stable 10.2 to show up.. I keep all my sync and all locations off, no extra "funny" aps..not even facebook app.
(I have' service disabler ' because my phone was suffering from data lost..consumed by google framework..but it solve it..)
I allso search before posting but no solution since all location services that i have found are off since i have this phone..
Ps. New to nexus. Only about two months.. Any clue? Greets

Android system drain is killing me

I see people getting up to 6h of screen time, I can barely get 3,3.5h. Android system is constantly my biggest drainer.
I'm rooted, I disabled all bloatware I can think of. I'm still new to the phone and I don't know what else to disable. I even disabled Google Now completely.
GPS off ,WiFi on, 3g signal is good, auto sync is on. I lose about 10% over night while doing nothing.
Any ideas?
This is on very light usage, about 45min of screen time, some texting and calls only.

About location services, should I disable it for Google apps only(under Google settings) or system wide via settings> location access?

1. Disable Google backup
2. Disable Google Location Access
3. Disable Android Location Access (the one with gps and mobile network)
4. Disable knock on/off sensor

Went to sleep with 100%, woke up with 89%. I installed wakelock detector and it seems Swype was keeping my phone awake for 3h. I uninstalled it and will see if that fixes the issue.
I just don't understand why android system was registered as the main culprit in both Gsam and BBS.

Now, it's your choice to enable or disable it but at least, you know the culprit.
I don't get why it's displaying as gravity sensor. The Doubletap uses the touchscreen, nothing to do with accelerometer / rotation / tilt. I still say it's a software bug... this has been reported numerous times, still baffles me, never see it.

There will be no fix. How could you fix touch screen to not drain power if waiting for knock on? How? It's physics and you can't fix physics

That may very well be, but it's not logical that such a simple feature uses more power than the screen itself.

the screen works, like, 3-5 hrs. And touch screen is 10-20 hrs constantly drains. Even if touch consumes way less current it does it long period of time hence power drainage.
So if your G2 primarily lays in pocket and you don't wake it up every hour or half an hours simply turn knockon off and use power key as I do and be happy
What is more powerconsuming is NLP in 4.4 kitkat which you can't turn off at all and THAT is the power drain which IS REAAAALLY BAAAAAAAAAD. I hate Google, the NSA beach

If you can't find the source of the drain try a factory reset.
We went through so many threads like that, my man.
Do a search.
For the headup, assuming that you have already turned off Android location access, turned off Google location access, turned off auto-sync (I know you said you needed it but just for now, off it), turned off gps/mobile networks, do the following
a. disable Knock On/Off feature
b. disable CIQ (if you don't have CIQ, then ignore this step)
Note: do one by one and make an observation how the battery life behaves after each change.
Oh, btw, reboot the phone, say, right after unplugging the charge.

you should know better than to give stats.... standby hours and battery life is varied alot by user, ambient temperature and etc.
OP if you feel thats not right, flash another rom see if it help, I'm using energy rom, its good for me so far.
Try remove some bloat and apk with titanium... A regular user can often remove 100 apk from these roms! And use bootmanager and greenify! Greenify is must have!

Don't hope, fix now.
If I was you, I would backup all my important personal info on the phone and factory reset it.
I would do those tricks one by one w/o installing any app yet and see how the battery fares after each charge.
General speaking, we need to understand the root cause and find the solution from there, if it needs to be rooted to fix the problem then you root it otherwise, blindly rooting and assuming everything else will fix isn't the right way to debug.

fact reset done , only whatsapp installed. same issue so i installed my other apps as well. im guessing its a kernel issue

N910F, "Android OS" battery drain - can't determine the cause

This started happening about a week ago... I didn't install any new apps in particular. I've attached screenshots to the post.
Screen-on time is a little below an hour in these screenshots.
As you can see Android OS and Android System are at the top of the list by a long shot. Android System seems "normal" in the sense that it has 58mn of CPU time and only 18mn of wakelocks (as reported by the built-in battery menu).
Android OS however kept the phone awake for 6h11 which seems like a lot. I'm not rooted, so I did the ADB USB trick in order to pull stats out of Wakelock Detector, and all of the apps clearly don't add up to six hours. Especially not the usual suspects like Google Services, Facebook, etc.
Diagnosis shows a LOT of system processes, and I'm not sure if that means 1) it's all good as far as user land goes (I don't have any weird apps) 2) there's a system process gone rogue for some reason 3) the cause isn't showing up 4) something else???
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
I have the same issue. Tried greenifying everything. No dice. I reboot, phone fine, then stays away. I will say that my battery life is good though, but this riddle is driving me nuts

Me too - 910F - im on Lollipop, but struggling to make it through a day at the moment.
Checking my Battery Graph is the same Story - my phone seems to be Awake constantly.
Seems Android System is using it....
Anyone have any ideas?
I can only recommend rooting your phones and change roms or kernels.
TW is heavy on battery and if you change to a CM rom the battery life will increase dramatically.
I have rooted all my phones since the very first android phone ever made and i cannot own a non rooted device as the freedom of rooting is just to awsome to ignore.
Every time i have battery issues i ether change my rom or kernel and then my issues goes away...
Can't root Verizon unfortunately
Hmm. Try this. Unchecked under advanced wifi, the option to let Google and apps use wifi, even when wifi off. Since then, 12 hours, I have had normal sleep. Did reboot after Unchecked. . Premature to say I fixed it, but so far so good.
Update. Since unchecking that wifi option, phone sleeping normally still.
Update #2- after 36 hours. It's back! Awake constantly. Unreal

I can't think of a reason it would do this... I feel like an iphone owner
Ironically I see no difference in battery life.... Hahaha. But driving me nuts.
I get through entire day... About 3.5 screen hours on. At 7pm I'm at 20% typically. Maybe that's bad?

I'm usually around 40%. but maybe our app-age is different.
I've updated the Google Play Services to the new version 7.0.87 and this issue seems to have gone.
Find the apk here

Finow X3+ Battery Life help

I got my new Finow X3+ watch this past week and although I'm really impressed with the look, speed and overall capability of the device, all of that means squat when it can't make it past 8 or 9 hours on a good day with very limited use (basically only checking the time and notifications with only BT tether and cell on, no WIFI).
Not sure if it was bad OTAs that I installed when I got it or what's going on but I think it has something to do with phone not sleeping..If anyone can give tips to save battery that you've found for unrooted x3+ please let me know.
Also does anyone know of a way to disable the pedometer hardware as I'm pretty sure that's the a big issue. Thanks guys
The cell network is the batt hogger. What do you expect from that tiny batt? Because Watch standby is perfect.

It's true, since turning off cell service I can usually get almost a full day (7am-10pm) just using it as a companion watch with m2d but it's disappointing not being able to use it the way I thought I could.
But how are you getting 3.5 days on one charge? I don't think mine goes into full deep sleep possibly because pedometer always logging info? Please let me know if you know how to disable the pedometer constantly running since I'd rather use it and the Heart monitor on an "as needed" basis. Any help is appreciated.
You have installed this update?
Yea I did...should I not have installed it?
I read that drains the battery, you've seen any change?

I'm on latest. That 3d standby I got by turning off all sensor. Specially GPS. that hogs. Also pedometer. Use them when u need.

Yea I noticed bit more drain after that OTA but not overheating like some others. Gonna try factory reset like sonia said
I turned off GPS and WIFI and also ios notification which was big battery hog and it made big difference. How did you stop other sensors and pedometer though? I can't find those settings.
As ios turn off notifications?

Yea I turned off the ios push notification like you're showing in your pic, was taking about 10% battery in mine too. It didn't have any effect on notifications from phone to watch cause I don't use iPhone. Saved good amount in battery too.
So you know how I can disable pedometer if that's possible?
But as ios notifications is disabled?

I force closed ios notifications from the running apps list but for some reason it still takes some battery. Anyway I solved my issue: I did factory reset and then downloaded a phone booster app someone recommended on the Google group page.
Went from ~8-10 hours light use to about a day and half on one charge with moderate use. If anyone has battery life issues for seemingly no reason then try this. Thanks for your help mad.
What phone booster app?
