Possibly new update spotted on PTCRB with
Build Number: 10.7.A.0.228
Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
As the Build Number suggests it'll still be lollipop, with all the latest stragefright fixes(maybe). And probably will be the final update in what has been a very long journey of updates.
What do you think guys?
Probably like you said it's just stragefright fixes or even just custom version for region or operator.
I would not expect any changes that actually would matter for us. Probably there gonna be "fixes" in changelog but like always it's gonna be just updated sony/google apps.
It has been released.

Well it depends on kernel support for the xzr, and how long it will take is a mystery
I highly doubt we will get Marshmallow. Hell, the Nexus 4 phone, which is practically my ZR where it matters, has not gotten MM officially from big bad Google, i highly doubt Sony would release it. It has been almost a miracle to get the grandfather Z lines to LP anyway.
I wouldn't refuse an update to MM if it ever happens though
sony will not release official MM update for ancient XZ.they have stated that Z2 onward will get offical MM.
So... how do we root this? I'm on Canadian phone and it seems like I'm left in the dark... bought this thinking I could play around with it rooted, but this does not seem the case

highly dout it will be receive any new updates

Yah, but my phone model is actually C6616. and LOCKED bootloader.
I really feel like this device has been abandoned by XDA devs... which strikes me as incredibly odd, seeing as how its still relevant as a higherMid-end device as far as specs go.
I had a phone from 2011 with half a gig of ram running ****ing Jellybean because it had good support, but I can totally see how that might be an anomoly
Having said that, I haven't explored the Dev forums much at all since I can't even get root without the piece of **** kingroot, let alone unlock my bootloader for some kernels. But it looks like Doom is gone, and he's the only one to my knowledge that catered to C6616.
Furthermore... I am afraid to do *anything* to my phone that even *RISKS* any bricking, since the C6616 evidently has basically zero support around here, so if I did brick, maybe I would just be ****ed. and Im a poor poor student in Canada, so a new phone is not possible. This is my horse and I want to train it. But it looks like I'm not allowed any risk.
I've rooted 5 other phones and gone through hundreds of roms and kernels, so I've learned how things work. But this is ALso my first Sony phone... and I've never had to deal with a locked bootloader.
P.S. the battery sucks I want a better kernel. If you can name anyone who might help I will totally start inboxing them with big hearts and kisses
A kernel doesn't help much. I use zombie and it has really nice features, but batterylife is pretty much the same.
For installing a custom kernel you need to unlock your bootloader, which you obviosly can't. Rooting won't change this

You could try to search for wakelocks etc. and disable unneeded stuff. Though this needs root. You could try to create a pre rooted rom, which you need to flash via recovery. To get a recovery you'll need to downgrade to a version which was easy to root, like 4.3. There are guides here on XDA.

you dont need to unlock your xz
LL roms doesn't match to custom kernels good , because of heating control methods
better to root your phone with "King root" (an android app ) very simple and without any risk of loosing your phone abilities
every thing you asked from custom kernels can find as apps ,you just need to looking for that

I just picked my first Xperia it's the X10i will be using on Tmobile USA, I love Android but am not fond of the Sony software on the phone, I'm planning on having it rooted today to 2.1
Just wanted to get any opinions of those of you who have rooted X10
Thanks
i had mine rooted for about 3 days, but due to there being a problem with installing apps form sd card after root, i soon flashed it back,,,i do miss my root programs thou,
I like the Phone, I don't like all the Sony software, I prefer the Google experience style Android if that makes sense.

Are you sure is a X10i? I think is a X10a, check it to be sure.
You can root your phone but... to Android 1.6-R2BA026. Read the android development section for X10 before you make a mistake and fall to the yellow triangle or to a brick phone.
I like my root for only 2 reasons, apps that require root ( Titanium Backup, ShootMe...) and because I have removed all the apps that I dont need/want. And thats it, I dont want any half working custom ROM solutions since all of them on other phones have some things that dont work at all or barely work. Hope this 2.1 will be rooted when it is out and I will be happy.
Yes its.the x10i im typing this.on it now Tmobile 3G works.

The X10 is a great piece of hardware. SE's software on the other hand leaves alot to be desired. Root is perfect as you can have the gear without the crap. R2BA026 is also a wonderful firmware, and far better than the 016 firmware that Rogers is still stuck at.

Yep. No matter what you do at this point, you're stuck with Android 1.6. Rooting doesn't change that (at this point in time). What rooting does is allow you access to the OS files themselves, and thereby you can remove the apps you don't want (which can't be uninstalled normally as they are part of SE's base OS on the X10).

I could deal with 1.6 as long as I can remove the sony crap. Another question I have had the Nexus 1 rooted and G1 Rooted both I paid someone to do, I heard the X10 is easy to brick is this true or just like anything you try to root there is always a risk?
After having root and learning a couple things I wouldn't go back. As for 2.1 not yet. The dev community is going straight to 2.2.
Why would you pay? Learn how to do it yourself. It takes time, patience and following instructions properly.
The upsides to root right now. You can un-SE your phone (changing themes and removing apps). But if you don't know how to root your phone you wont know how to mod your phone to your liking.

+1. I love having mine rooted, and wouldn't look back. I joined the forum as I was new to Android and wanted to learn how to customize my phone to my liking, and still learning new things, tips and tricks.
just fyi...the X10 is almost impossible to brick, one thing you can thank SE for
Thanks for all the responses, This makes me way more comfortable. I love the hardware it's a beast of a phone. This is all a learning process for me I had a Nexus One that I eventually learned how to install ROMs with ROM manager, I'm hoping in time with the X10 I can do the same.
Just curious what SE apps or programs do all advise deleting?

Yeah, even the guys who developed the root method didn't actually brick the X10 as they tried to crack it, from what I remember reading. The worst is that you get the yellow exclamation mark and then have to re-do the first step in the root method to bring you back to the original release firmware (016 iirc, or maybe 014).
I definitely agree with some of the other posters that you're much better off doing it yourself. Once you learn how it's pretty straightforward, and with new firmwares being released pretty often you won't want to pay someone every time to update your firmware.
Just read the root instructions a few times, make sure to download the files before you start, and take your time.

The sony software is what makes the X10 an X10, why would you even want the phone then, besides its good looks ?

The X10 and the Nexus One are identical in terms of its hardware, minus the camera MP. The Nexus One is a great learning tool for rooting and modifying an Android because its the closest you can get to Android OS straight up and Google allowed you to unlock the bootloader. I rooted the X10 as soon as it was made available and it was just as easy. I did get the yellow exclamation mark and getting it fixed was easy to.
Definitely, definitely root the phone yourself and learn things yourself, otherwise, get an iPhone and let Steve Jobs control your phone for you.

Maybe it's the best phone your carrier offers (such as with Rogers), and you couldn't afford a new phone contract-free? Maybe you like the look? Maybe you wanted a phone with a 4" display and 8MP camera? There are lots of reasons to want the X10... the SE software is just one of them.

Sorry, I pressed enter while typing the title and it submitted the post for me. I was also wondering about the usefulness of rooting the phone as I mentioned in my edit.
from what I have seen and experienced from Android, root is a nice feature to get rid of unwanted extra stuff, system files and files came from your carrier and even SE stuff that you don't need. Without them, phone runs faster and battery is better.
Rooting process is easy and no risk in it at least for me but you have to be sure that you know what is going on and how to fix if anything happens instead of freakin out.
+ custom ROM won't happen on rooted devices, you need a unbranded device which can have a unlocked booloader later for custom ROMs/
So I take it that just unbranding the phone following the guides on here isn't enough to get SE to unlock the Bootloader?

well no.
Your phone needs to be bootloader unlockable. It means that phone it self has to come unbranded from Sony Ericsson factory, means no carrier every put their hands on the phone then bootloader on your phone may get unlocked.
hi..you don't necessarily need boot loader unlocked devices for custom roms.. they managed it on x10 for 6 months or so..

Hello Folks,
to make it short, i had a problem updating to 4.4.4 (23.0.1.A.0.167), after lots of googling and digging i decrypted the files i downloaded using PCC Companion and what i got was really shocking.
the old version rom (.314) was the one included in the downloaded files, I LOVE YOU SONY, you didn't even bother to check the files you are sending to us.
Seems that the same problem happens in several regions, as lots of talk i found when googling the problem.
And that explains everything, the PC Companion downloads whats on the server as the new 23.0.1.A.0.167, while actually its the old .314, then when the mobile shuts down to the flash mode the error happens
Also here at the GENERAL forum the ROM posted twice, and they reply "its the old one", unbelievable ...

if you dont like the brand then change, ranting here isnt going to change that
as for i, i have had 3 Defective Devices from sony and they Were all Z2 replacements, any other xperia i have ever used or owned has been fine, as for the firmwares for each currently supported device they are in my eyes getting better, security is getting better and other Devices which recieved 4.4.4 were rocket fast, the NeW UI is first to come to z2 aside Z3
as said previously Ranting here will not change anything, i doubt it would detour other people from buying from sony all too much.
I flashed it using Sony flashtool. All good here. Pretty much a z3 now thicker. Lol. I had a z3 sold it. And this update made the z2 a z3 no kidding.

Can't say I'm surprised. I was just happy to get it to 5.x. I'd be willing to be Samsung is going to sit on their hand for a bit to see if Apple releases iPad Pro sales figures and if they're good they'll build an updated Note Pro 12.2.

To me it is 3 months older than my S6 edge and I paid top dollar for the SOB! It should get at least one major update to the next gen OS. Mine came with Lollipop. It is not at all a reach whatsoever to expect Marshmallow.

It came out in February 2014.
If memory serves, years ago (i think it was google i/o 2011?) Google asked major manufacturers to commit to update support for a period of 18 months after launch of a device. Since the note pro was announced in January of 2014 we are well beyond that time frame so yeah, it's not a surprise to not see a 6.0 update coming.

I'm in no hurry for Marshmallow. I was all geeked up about getting Lollipop. It looks different, but I have seen no difference in battery life or performance in coming from KitKat. Unless Marshmallow is going to introduce something really new (not just be a matter of a few internal changes and a new skin) then I'm good with continuing to use Lollipop.
I'm actually downgrading back to KitKat tonight just so I can root again. =(

Meh . . As an advanced user with a rooted device and a few useful tools (Greenify and Amplify for Xposed) I'm able to get standby power consumption on my wifi Note Pro down to a near negligible trickle. I just forgot my Note Pro at the office last night; having unplugged it from the charger at 100% I failed to put it into my bag before leaving for the night. I just got back to the office 12hrs later to find the tablet at 97% . . it had sat on wifi the whole time and my emails were still all synced.
No doubt that for the average user who doesn't want to go through the effort or doesn't want to root Doze takes a lot of the effort out of accomplishing better battery life. Good stuff for sure, just not necessarily mind blowingly good IMO.
It's posts like these that manufacturers never pay attention to. They are in the business of making NEW product. They do NoT see profit in supporting previously sold product. Sad and myopic.
But...the note pro 12.2 has hardware specs that are hard to beat.
I can see the little guy in Korea going crazy trying to figure out how to monetize having made a great product that people, get this, "want to keep".
(Shaking my head)

Odin flash twrp, then flash chainfire's supersu.zip via twrp and voila
Any ex "hybrid rom concept edition" (Xperia Z Ultra uses) interested in development?
Is anyone interested?
What's more important for you guys, security or speed?
If there fans of my work and this amazing device let me know.
I am doing cyber security now, so if you want something really amazing I need a motivation to spend my free time doing that. And I will need to get myself a second device with locked bootloader for starters.

Few reasons, one is that I need to see what can be done with locked one. I managed to port Z3's concept rom to Zu, made it 400mb and it was able to run with Locked Bootloader.
Second reason, is that I can't really afford to brick it right now. I think of switching to black from chrome for a while
I need some crazy idea to motivate myself.
I was able to live with GAAps-free phone for a year, but Nanodroid didn't support new Maps v2 api.
Plus removing Google really improves battery life.
Personally, I am all crazy about Cyber Security and I got pissed when phone lags. Also I believe that most of "innovations" are softeare, that are easy to port.
I posted Google free rom with clear instructions how to install Nanodroid but it's not intersting.

@Doom Slayer, about what can be done with still locked bootloader - you may check following post:
Android PIE VerifiedBoot Bypass: sony xperia XZ1c locked bootloader permanently rooted
I like your [GUIDE] Z Ultra and Z1 HARD BRICK RECOVERY thread.
Do you think it could be made working with XZp/XZ1/XZ1c phones too?
Hardbrick recovery would be very useful for yoshino phones (managed to brick two already).
@j4nn, that's looks promising. Great work! Too bad I don't have any locked device. But I will keep that information in mind.
About hardbrick recovery, you should try contacting @the_laser, as he was the guy who developed software in the first place.
About the rom development, I am still thinking of a concept itself.
Most likely it would be ultra-debloated

Unfortunately it seems he is not active on xda anymore, for more than a year - mentioning him has no effect, his account is displayed as "disabled". I did not try a pm though.
Do you by any chance know what might have happen with him? Or any good way for contact?
